Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called that company based on the reviews of Nick's Air Services, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, this company is expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right. read more

Please read their reviews before calling this company.  I had a terrible experience with this company and was eventually forced to file a credit card dispute because I was charged for services that never got started. So the problem I wanted to get addressed was that the exhaust pipe from my attic furnace was collecting condensation and causing a leak. 1. Initial Visit: A technician came out to diagnose the issue. He said that the pipe had to be replaced due to rust and the cap had to be added to the roof end of the pipe because it was completely missing. He charged me $3000 for replacing two sets of pipes. I thought it was expensive but went through with the transaction because of the high reviews on yelp. 2. Failed Service: On the scheduled date, technicians arrived but refused to replace the pipe because my roof was "too steep." I was told they would reschedule with a crew equipped and willing to work on steep roofs. 3. No Follow-Up: The company never rescheduled this service. I tried calling them multiple times but the only response I got was that they would call me back. We have used Nicks in the past for both servicing and unit replacement. They were one of the best companies to work with as they were always timely, efficient and fairly priced. We reached out to them on Tuesday of this week as our upstairs unit wasn't working. They set us up for the first appointment of the day which we were advised would be about 8am on Thursday with a 8-10am window. Around 9:30 we called as we had not heard from anyone and they let us know there was an install from the night before that wasn't completed and the guys had to go finish up before they would get to us and that we would have someone by 10:30am. At 11 we checked back and were told we "slipped through the cracks" and they had dispatched the team to another location. How do you slip through the cracks when you just spoke to them an hour beforehand? As of now they have no idea when we will get seen and we are 4+ hours past our service time. Apparently we are supposed to be able to just sit around and wait for them to decide when we could be serviced - Not that we have to get to work or anything. Seems like new ownership may want to take a look into their team. We will not be using them again. read more

Had a problem with the cooling of my HVAC and I contacted Nick's based on the glowing Yelp reviews. The call was handled by their answering service and the agent promised a call back for scheduling. Easton called back in under 10 minutes and scheduled to arrive within a couple of hours. He constantly stayed in contact as his previous appointment ran longer. Easton arrived and did a quick check, discussed the issue and pricing. He started the work and was efficient in completing it. He was friendly and helpful thru the entire service. I will recommend Nick's for your service needs based on the prompt same day fix. Trustworthy and reliable for sure. The only reason for the 4 stars is the steep price of the R-22 freon. Understand the price surge since it's not manufactured anymore. While other companies charge considerably lower rates, Nick's may want to take a relook at their pricing. read more

My AC stopped working last week and within a couple hours my home was around 79 degrees. I tried to sleep, but it wasn't possible with the heat. I did what most people would do, I yelled and complained, then got a hotel and turned the AC all the way up just to make myself feel better. My family couldn't take the heat, neither could I. The next morning I opened YELP and found Nick's Air Services. I called and was told they could be there in the next two hours. I was a bit surprised at soon the tech arrive, but he was there in two hours. It's hot in Texas right now, I mean really hot... so to be clear, it was awesome to have someone come look at my AC so quickly. The tech arrives and he quickly identifies that BOTH AC units are not on. He uses the good-ol volt meter and does his thing, and a capacitor and a couple other parts later, both units are running You never really know how bad you need your AC until you don't have it. I'm glad to say I learned quickly and recovered equally as fast with the help of Nick's Air Services. read more

The fan on my outside unit stopped blowing and after failing to diagnose the problem myself, I called Nicks. Great customer service upfront and I got the incredible Chris to come out and help. Turns out the contractor failed and Chris, being his amazing self, showed me what was wrong, how he figured it out, and more. I honestly cannot recommend Nicks enough. Just like another post I saw, I initially contacted Nick Air service, but it turned out to be Dunrite HVAC. My aging AC had a motor issue, and after researching, I expected to pay around $300-$500 for the motor replacement (the AC motor is ~$150-$300). However, the technician quoted an unexpectedly high price of $1609. I declined the service but paid the $89 service call fee. I decided to reach out to another technician who didn't charge a service call fee. They examined the AC, ordered the motor online, and returned two days later to replace it, all for a total cost of $600. Surprisingly, the 24v contactor was in good condition, despite Dunrite's recommendation to replace it, which left me questioning their honesty. read more

Well I know who I'll be using if a problem ever arises again! Nicks was extremely speedy, straight to the point and Ricky identified my issue within minutes. From making phone call they had someone at my house within 25 minutes and were out the door with everything repaired in in less than an hour. They are upfront with pricing (about half as much as what the big name guys quoted me) and didn't feel like I was pushed into anything unexpected and unnecessary. Definitely recommend! read more

I had originally booked Nick's HVAC, but it looks like "Dunrite" took them over or rebranded or something. I think the crew is very nice, professional, responsive. But I think they overcharge quite a bit - they charge over $500 to replace a capacitor (part runs for like $50-75) and the job is ~30-45 min from arrival to departure for the tech, including the actual replacement, as well as inspection of system and discussion of pricing. read more

This review is not for Nick's Air. Nick's Air is an excellent company that provides great service and reasonable prices. They are now Dun-rite. These guys are nickel and dime sleight of hand bottom level HVAC installer.Guy showed up to my house for a service call for an issue I had with my thermostat screen. I was told a service call would be 89.99. Guy showed up and quoted me a price of 1399 to replace the thermostat. I told him no thanks politely. I received an invoice for 199.99. When asked why I was told because he did advanced diagnostics. He was there all of 5 minutes. If you are looking for the same level of quality and service of Nick's Air you will not find it any longer with the new ownership. read more

Our AC stopped blowing cold air in the middle of May right as things started heating up. Of course, right? I looked up Nick's Air on Yelp and saw the rave reviews so I figured I'd give them a call... and a call... and a call... and a call. It took a very long time to reach them. It's probably just a fluke of the exact day our unit went out, but we were literally within 2 hours of a competitor coming to our house since they had been much more responsive, and Nick called back himself and was able to have someone out right away. We got great service in a timely fashion, and their technician ended up replacing all of our start and run caps outside (in the rain, poor guy!). Price was about $600 which is never fun, but the take home point is that once I could actually reach these guys on the phone, they were great! FYI they don't take AMEX though, at least that's what I was told in person, which was a minor inconvenience in my case. If the unit craps out or ever needs to be replaced, I'll probably call these guys first! read more

I've been calling the same AC company (I won't mention them in this post) for the past 2-3 years about issues I've been having with our Carrier Infinity system. The service has been fine, but I felt that the issues were never quite addressed. The techs that the other company sent down seemed to lack confidence in working with our AC and I could never get a definitive answer as to why our system wasn't working well. Nick's Air service answered my call right away and our system was diagnosed and fixed in under half an hour (on Easter weekend too). Noticed some humidity coming from a wall, figured out the HVAC had a lot of condensation, called Nick's Air Services, Donald came for the service call, turned out the main line was clogged. Donald was AMAZING, he unclogged the main line, vacuumed the water, re-sealed what was needed, documented the whole process with pictures, now everything is bone-dry and taken care of. I had called multiple other companies about this issue and he was the first one who really took care of it, AWESOME service, will definitely keep Nick's Air Service(now Dun-Rite) for all my HVAC needs and maintenance, great value for the price. We had been suffering in the Summer months for more time than I'd like to admit caused by a leak. We'd add Freon once a year until the Freon would leak out within days...We had called a couple of contractors and none were as responsive or as FAIR as Nicks Air Services. I called and spoke with the receptionist and was immediately contacted by Chuck, who came to the house the next day and gave a is a great price on replacing our air handler. What was even better, his team came in the next morning (Saturday) to install it. Chuck followed up with a phone call and came out to inspect the work. Once again, Nick's Air Services delivers. I've been using their services a few years now and finally my 14 year old unit went tits up. There was a little back and forth on getting the pricing right and I'd prefer a little more feedback as to what exactly you're getting when your buying a new system, but all concerns were addressed and I feel the owner really cares about his customers. I went with a new heat pump / ac (because I was dumb and bought a house without gas). But either way, the installation was professional and fast, and they fixed some issues that the last installers left behind (not enough return surface area, and more importantly, THE PREVIOUS INSTALLERS DIDNT RUN THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF POWER TO THE UNIT causing the heat strips in the old unit to be under powered and eat my electricity like candy during the winter). They ran a new additional return for me and another breaker to properly power the new unit. They also ran all new suction and that other small line for me. Overall it was a stressful experience as this is my biggest purchase so far living in a house, but I feel like the pricing was reasonable and the expertise and attention to detail that was given is why Nick's Air Services is the best. read more

Not impressed. When we asked them to look at our HVAC for servicing, they said there was a charge for the visit to figure out what was wrong. After their visit, we learned that they had completed a laundry list of tasks that we never approved, and charged us nearly $500 for everything. When we asked them about their lack of transparency before completing their self prescribed list, nevermind our budget or actual original maintenance requests, the owner responded by sarcastically telling us he would take the freon back and we could find someone else. We also had a helluva time getting a receipt from them. It was some weird garbled file that we had to figure out how to convert. Yeah they seemed pretty snarky about that request for a legible receipt document too. Felt like we got scammed. Would NOT recommend. @Owner response about him suggesting I should call him to get "every penny of my money back" (a response now since deleted): Maybe because reviews can't be paid to be removed and is discouraged by the FTC. @Owner response (2nd version): Lol wow. Owner now publishing false and baseless accusations, bringing politics in where there was none in our review, accusing us of being "competitors" when we have customer documentation (Yelp admins, you're welcome to this upon request), and seemingly ignorant of the concept of "moving" or "owners of multiple homes." Unbelievable. It would seem this owner takes an extra-aggressive, stalkerish, total-denial approach to honest, negative reviews of his business. Update: Nick and his technicians have been very helpful and responsive. Unfortunately, when the unit was first installed, the drain stopped up and caused a fault. When the installer came back out, he got the unit working but didn't explain to me that there might be more plumbing issues involved and that it could happen again. Nick has been very helpful in trying to get the situation fixed. This also exposed a bad breaker in my box. Neither problem is, strictly speaking, and HVAC issue, but Nick likes going above and beyond. Hence why I'm changing my review. I'm not giving 5 stars is for three reasons: 1. The installer did not adequately explain that this could be a recurring plumbing issue and that they could help, but it may require a plumber to fix (it's happened twice in three months) 2. The unit works and is efficient, but cools a little slowly That being said, Nick and his team is working diligently to do as much as they can. If we get the drainage issue resolved and this unit stays reliable, I'll revisit this review again in 6 months to a year. A unit like this should be a 10-20 year investment. Hopefully, it'll turn out to be some hiccups at the beginning and then smooth sailing from here on out. read more

Prompt service - from answering phones to arriving on time (and during the COVID pandemic). Respectful, professional, and used a mask as per COVID protocol. So...I call for "HELP! My air is out and my Nest thermostat is not working! (Temps have been cool to decent but THIS DAY it is 86 degrees outside of course). The next day Chuck comes as scheduled, goes straight to the problem..."drumrolll" - the heat/air switch had been turned off (by me when I was in a rush in the attic to get the lights out and attic closed up). Oh my word!! The hubs is shooting darts at me with his eyes, but also thinking why didn't he check all this out first....Oh well!! Chuck had a good laugh with us. We had planned to pay for his time and gas, but he wouldn't charge us. All was good and you bet we will call Nick's for all our heat and air service. Great, honest company. Nick tried to walk me through some fixes over the phone to avoid a service call. When we realized I couldn't fix myself, Dragon came within an hour, diagnosed the issue, located the part, and returned in 90 minuets to fix the problem. I was never pushed to replace more than what was needed and felt totally comfortable with the price and service. This industry is full of horror stories. There is no 0 stars. That's why there is 1. Old A/C unit was 20 years old, inefficient and compressor start capacitor went out. Decided to replace. Made the mistake of calling Nick's. They did have tech out quickly for service and we talked about replacing unit. The deal went south with the installation contractor. Installed the drain line incorrectly (installer admitted it was not done correctly) and flooded my ceiling in my entry and living room. Called Nick and was told they're not responsible. It got heated after that and he hung up on me. He did call back and said he would have the installer correct problem. Just a side not for anyone reading this: I did sign an agreement that said they were not responsible for water damage. But, this was negligence and that agreement is not binding when negligence is involved. Nick should check with his attorney on that. End of story is, installer fixed their mistake and then ghosted me and I was out of pocket for the $2,000 damage. I didn't get a picture of the installer's van or I would mention them by name also. This occurred, I believe, in the summer of 2021. read more

These guys deserve every star they've got; they're knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. In our case (which ended up being a complete system replacement), they walked us through root cause, options, tradeoffs, and pricing, as well as encouraging us to get second opinions and estimates. They've owned the entire process from tearout through tag. Unsurprisingly, they're not going to be the cheapest company out there, but they're cost-competitive, and you won't find a more reliable team to work with. Highly recommended. UPDATE: Going into the summer, we found that our compressor wasn't working. Nick sent out a team immediately to replace the blown relay at no cost, running the part to ground despite serious supply chain issues due to COVID. Very honest company. Nick is great, I had asked for a quote on inspecting A/C for a new build construction home. Nick advised that it was not needed and that the city would have looked at it thoroughly to pass inspection. His actual advice was that the service was not needed and to save my money.
