My sister and her friends recommended Sen Dai, and they made a game plan to arrive right as they opened. Now that I have seen the opening rush, I can easily understand why. This restaurant is nested in a small plaza with relatively limited parking, so you have to get lucky or be prepared to park outside of the small lot they have available. Once seated, the service is extremely fast. I don't know if I have ever been served and finished eating faster at any other restaurant, although I was also eating with a group of exceptionally fast eaters this time. The dim lighting made me forget we're in the middle of summer, but that was truly no biggie. The joy of being inside after seeing how long the line/wait gets is unmatched! We ordered the takoyaki appetizer, tonkatsu bento, baked salmon roll, Cherry Blossom Roll, and Storm Bringer Roll for a group of 5, including 3 big eaters. To my surprise, this was way more filling than I thought it would be for our group. The quality of the fish was truly excellent, and all rolls were delicious. There was so much filling in each of them and not an excessive amount of rice either! I enjoyed the baked salmon and Storm Bringer rolls in particular for the sauces they used! Been waiting to try out Sen Dai Sushi for a while and got a chance when we decided to be there at 5.00 pm as soon as they open. We reached there at 5.03 and there were already 5-6 tables that had been filled. But we got a table without a wait time. It's a fairly non descript place in a little strip mall, but they are extremely popular. They have an entire army working in take out orders. And if you don't get there right when they open for dinner, be prepared to wait. The menu selection is pretty big with both sushi and cooked options. Hamachi Kama is a nice sized piece of fish. Unfortunately a little dry in parts. Tempura nicely fine though nothing special other than the pieces are large. Las Vegas roll tasted great but I was not expecting it to be two inches in diameter. Rolls are usually an inch or so making them but size. So the Las Vegas fell apart eating it. California roll was a good, solid version. Service was really fast. This is our family go to place and now they been around for 20 years this year. The food is still on spot for us and that they kept taking care of us and all that was there. The main course was the sushi with soup and salad. We've had many a lunches and dinners here and even had family functions here. Some of the best if not the best sushi spot in the bay! Definitely one of my new favorite spots to go to. I went to Sen Dai for the first time with a group of 4. It's a very unassuming spot from the outside, located in a small strip mall next to a donut shop with hardly any decor going for it. The inside opened up to a fairly low seating and decently dim restaurant, with both a bar area and tables for seating. It wasn't cramped though! I actually arrived late due to the BART, so I had some friends order for me - I had seen on their menu that their classic rolls were 6pc each, so I ordered 3 with the expectation of maybe ordering another + some nigiri before I'd be full, and boy was I proven wrong. I unfortunately don't have pictures since I was too busy eating, but the portions are absolutely humongous - a single piece is almost double the size of sushi you'd get anywhere else - and they certainly don't skimp on the fish. My Salmon Avocado rolls were practically 80-90% salmon, and were a two bite endeavor. Of my 3 rolls (California, Salmon Avocado, Spicy Tuna), I was only able to finish about 2 before I was stuffed - something extremely impressive since I typically order way more at other sushi spots. Not to mention, both the fish and the rice were very fresh, and the sashimi I tried from my friend were both thickly cut and had great flavor! Not to mention - my classic rolls were way more affordable than any other spot - being around 7$ each, my three rolls ended up being around 25$ ++! If this spot were closer to me, I would be making weekly trips. As it stands, this will probably be one of the sushi spots I recommend time and time again, and I will visit whenever I get the opportunity! Pretty good sushi spot here in Milpitas! Had come on a Tuesday night and there was no line. The sushi rolls here are really big and they are super generous with all the raw fish they put on it. Could have done with one less small roll - Storm Bringer Roll: tastes like a generic roll. Not bad, but nothing exceptional. The fish chunks are huge and generous. The krab salad is plentiful, but I would have preferred much less. The roll is almost half krab salad. I would pass on this one. 3/5 - Albacore Negi Roll: very disappointed this time. For some reason the roll had raw garlic?! Completely over powers all the other flavors. Not sure when they started putting garlic, but it's a shame as this used to be one of my favorite simple rolls here, 1/5 - 20pc Sashimi Combo: their sashimi combo is still one of the best items, with generous sliced fish. I got a miso soup, Happy blossom with no tobiko, no spicy sauce, add thin lemon slices on top, rainbow roll, salmon carpaccio, and beef bulgogi and egg bowl, and fresh wasabi. The happy blossom and rainbow roll was good but I wish they had cut the rolls a little thinner because the big cuts make it overwhelming to eat after a few pieces. My colleague recommended me this place for good quality and reasonable price sushi dining. So I decided to give it a try on Mother's day. We arrived at the parking lot around 11:45am and there were already 3 groups of people waiting for their tables (they open at 11:30am fyi) There were no parking spots at all, the parking was super small and about one third of parking spaces were designated to customers of other stores in the same plaza. We drove off and tried to find a parking in the neighborhood. We got to sign our name in the waitlist at around 12:15pm, and were seated 30 minutes later. Their interior was really simple with minimal decoratings. The server was welcoming and handed us their printed menus. I'm kinda old schooled to prefer flipping the menu over scanning a QR code for an online menu through my phone. They had many options to choose, which I think I would have had a hard time scrolling up and down for a QR coded menu. We were thinking of getting bentos, but there were no choices to substitute items in the menu, so we ended up ordering three special rolls and one appetizer. Our fried calamari for appetizer was really good. The batter was thin but crunchy and tender enough, calamari was fresh. The portion was big for the price of $18. Our plate was full of calamari and not so much of veggies like other restaurants to fill up the plate. We got three special rolls: nissan, baked scallop and secret. I personally enjoyed nissan and baked scallop, and not a big fan of secret. But my sister loved it because she loved seared salmon. However, we wanted to point out that our rolls were not cut through, which made us so hard to grab each piece with chopsticks. It would be better if they had sharpen their knife, maybe? From their traditional maki to hand rolls, to their large, over-the-top rolls, every slice of fish is fresh and served at a really fair price. I've stuck with the classics of getting salmon, tuna, and yellowtail and have been pleasantly surprised each time. The fish was always generously portioned and both fish and rice were nice and fresh! I recommend ordering via takeout as the line can get kind of long given their limited space to dine indoors. If you do end up waiting, it's worth the wait. We were in the area and searching for lunch. We tried a favorite Chinese Hand-Pulled Noodle shop but alas, like so many others, they were closed on Tuesdays. My wife said that the reviews for Sen Dai were pretty positive, so we decided to give them a shot. The parking was easy. The restaurant looked deceivingly small from the outside, but once inside, it looked like they had two store fronts to make for a decent sized dining room. Right inside the door is the cashier and behind that station are a couple of metro racks for to go orders. Once it was determined that we wanted a sit-down meal, we were directed to the hostess who seated us right way at a two-top. The menu is quite extensive. Appetizers, Sushi Bar Appetizers, Bento Boxes, Curry Specials, Donburi, Noodles and of course, Sushi and Sashimi. We kept looking and looking and simply couldn't narrow our choices to an appetizer, entree and side. There were too many flavors that we wanted to try. So, we decided on an all-appetizer lunch. We got: Fried Tofu Ponzu Appetizer - 5 - Instead of Age-Dashi, we ordered this one. The Ponzu was really refreshing with the Tofu. Hamachi Kama Appetizer - 3 - This dish was our least favorite. The fish was drier than it should have been, like there was no fat. It also may have been overcooked slightly. Tempura Appetizer - 4 - Served hot from the fryer, it came with two prawns, 3 broccoli, 3 green beans, 2 slices of potato and 1/2 shitake mushroom. Okonomiyaki Appetizer - 4 - To be honest, I've only seen this dish on Japanese Food Shows about a million times, but this was the first time ordering it. I've giving a 4 as a neutral score that I may come back and change after I've had it at a couple of other places. It tasted good. Aburi Nigiri Appetizer - 5 - Seared Maguro, Albacore, Hamachi, Sake and Smoked Salmon topped with Kizami Wasabi, Jalapeno, Sesame Oil and Ponzu Sauce. The fish was super fresh and yummy. The Wasabi and Jalapeno were not spicy. I would recommend asking to have the Ponzu served as a dipping sauce because it tended to make the rice fall apart when you picked up a piece of sushi. What made this restaurant a 5* for us was the number of employees working. Besides the Cashier and the Hostess, there were at least five front- of-house, five prepping the sushi bar and when I asked if this was normal staffing, he told me there were ten more employees in the kitchen. This made service and speed of service fantastic, especially for those who might have been on their lunch breaks from work. We'll be back for more food! read more

Sen Dai is such a hidden gem for sushi in the Bay Area IMO. I've been here on two separate occasions now, and both times have been great. The rolls are fresh, big, and taste fantastic. The service is great too, staff is super nice and accommodating although they do move pretty fast, as the restaurant is pretty small and very popular. The menu is very extensive, they offer so many rolls that I always need to spend a couple minutes figuring out what to get. On my latest visit here I got the baked salmon roll which was delicious, although I wish it was wrapped more tightly as it basically fell apart as soon as I tried to pick it up. I also unfortunately found a hair on one of the end pieces, which wasn't too appetizing. There is a private parking lot here but parking can be tough as there aren't too many spaces, and this place gets quite packed. read more

I was greeted immediately and got my table. The service was very friendly. Hot tea costs $1 there, my tea cup was filled most of the time. The black interior paint was not the greatest decor. Food was good. Age deshi tofu, sashimi platter, garlic edamame and caterpillar roll were all fresh and yummy. They are able to accommodate our no red tuna request and substitute with white tuna without additional fee. We paid with split payment and they are gratefully accepted. We visited Sen Dai Sushi on a Sunday evening. There was no wait to order for takeout, but it took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready. And there isn't really seating for guests waiting for orders, people were just standing outside, so we waited in the car (it's a small parking lot). The service was pretty standard. The food was amazing! This was my first time trying this place, and I'd say it's one of the top sushi restaurants I've been to.  I had the Secret and Baked Salmon roll, and both were soooo delicious, fresh ingredients and good portion size, even enough for leftovers. I actually have been going to Sendai a lot over the years and we ordered from here a ton. I would have updated my review to 4 stars as their sushi is better than all the lower quality, fast food-like sushi places that have opened up. However, I was really surprised to bite into a huge piece of plastic wrap right in the middle of my sushi! I couldn't eat my food anymore-feeling nauseous and my stomach is starting to hurt. We come every Friday, staff is really nice and friendly, always making sure everyone is happy and have everything they need.
