I would have updated my review to 4 stars as their sushi is better than all the lower quality, fast food-like sushi places that have opened up. However, I was really surprised to bite into a huge piece of plastic wrap right in the middle of my sushi! I couldn't eat my food anymore-feeling nauseous and my stomach is starting to hurt. Love Sen Dai Sushi and the quality of food here! My always to go choice is to pick sushi rolls with salmon. Food is always good and the staff is always so friendly and quick. The prices are higher than average, but it's a regular price for sushi I'd say. The sitting is indoors only, the tables are mostly for 2 or up to 4 people. Service is super quick. We come every Friday, staff is really nice and friendly, always making sure everyone is happy and have everything they need. All four were amazing but my favorite was 237 and Sweet Spot. If you enjoy cream cheese with salmon, sweet spot may be your go to. Salmon Carpaccio was hands down the star of the meal. Salmon was fresh, flavor was hitting the spot (not sure what it was but something about the ponzu sauce was chef kiss and compliments the dish) 10 piece sashimi was thicccck cuts and enjoyed every piece of it. This is my family's go to sushi spot in San Jose. The rolls are a little pricier than what I'm used to but they're quite hefty and one 8-piece roll will satisfy a person. We were 4 people with 5 rolls and we were stuffed. Really nice spot for sushi in a casual environment! Sen Dai really impressed me with the quality of fish that they serve. It's in an unassuming spot (with a very small parking lot so unless you get there early it's likely you'll need to find street parking). We arrived as a party of 9 right when they opened for dinner and were lucky to get seated right away. We started with the salmon carpaccio, tofu agedashi, and hamachi kama followed by a variety of specialty rolls. The salmon carpaccio was great and the hamachi kama was the perfect app to share. For rolls, I really enjoyed the lemon drop with deep fried shrimp, sun roll with spicy yellowtail and blonde bombshell eel with yellowtail and topped with macadamia nuts. All the sushi was really fresh and I loved that while the rolls were creative and there was plenty of variety, the sauces didn't overpower the fish. Service was super fast and efficient and very accommodating when we kept adding on sushi rolls. The sushi definitely comes out fast and even the baked unagi roll we had came out in about 5 min. Found this place only by chance when I was looking for dinner. Omg it's so crowded, but people were willing to wait in line for it, while some just ended up ordering Togo after 15-20 minutes of waiting. I waited like 25-30 minutes for a table for 1, and I think it was worth it. The service was very prompt, and I really appreciate that they refilled my hot tea. They seem to have a lot of staff in the kitchen so everyone's food came out really quick. I started out with a Negihama, and a Albacore rolls ($6.50 each). Both were very good, the albacore got a very good flavor, and the Negihama was buttery and tasty. My main course was a nigiri mix, which have 9 nigiri for $28. The quality of the nigiri was very fresh. The toro, albacore, hamachi, escolar, and salmon were tasty. The amount of tang on the saba was right, it wasn't very fishy at all. They also gave a negitoro, it was my first time having it, and it was so amazing, it's like eating a very flavorful avocado, super tasty. This is definitely my new spot for sushi for sure. read more

We got seated really quick for a Thursday lunch, and it was super busy when we got in. While the restaurant is a little cramped, we still really enjoyed the food. The hand rolls were so filling because of their huge portions. I'd highly recommend sharing that because a single hand roll is big enough to be an appetizer. I've been here a couple times now and it's a five stars here just for the fact that they have traditional okonomiyaki that is absolutely delicious! I always try to find restaurants that carries this item and it's rare to find one. Especially one that makes it the way they do here as it's they was my grandmother used to make it. They could never make me hate Sen Dai Sushi. Their quality, quantity, and price are so hard to beat. They also have great service, always attentive. I've been coming to Sen Dai since 2014 and I still can't find a sushi spot better than them. From bentos to sushi, they excel in all categories. My favorite items at Sen Dai are their Beef Teriyaki Bento, Hamachi Kama, and the Sun roll. I try to get different items every time but I always get the Sun roll. It comes with togarashi on top, making it slightly spicy, but soo freaking good. For my most recent visit, I got the Sun roll, Storm Bringer roll, and Dragon roll. Storm Bringer roll (4/5): Taste-wise was good but not the best I've had at Sen Dai. At each end of the roll, they added fried crab which tasted great. Dragon Roll (3.75/5): They put a lot of avocado on the roll. Again, taste-wise was nice, but I felt like it was missing something. Make sure to come early, it gets very crowded on the weekends. I always try to come here right when they are open at 5PM on weekday or weekends since after 5:15PM they usually are full House. The restaurant only can accommodate about 10 small tables so mostly are order Togo. Parking are limited too. I usually get the 30 pieces sashimi $77. The pieces are fresh and thick which always the best choices. The pork belly bento box are my usual orders every times. Since every bento box order, you can add tempura additional $3. It's clear once you enter Sen Dai Sushi that it's an institution. It's been around for a while (established in 2005) and all the tables were instantly filled as soon as they opened their doors. The tables were filled quickly even as diners left. If there's one thing you have to order here, make sure you get the whole grilled squid. It's massive and easily shared amongst four people. Besides that, you can't go wrong with the library of rolls they have here - they don't put too much rice and it's absolutely stuffed with filling. If you want the largest roll they have, get the Stormbringer. It's packed with soft shell crab, yellowtail, salmon, eel, and other goodies. I typically order takeout from Sen Dai because the place is kind of small with limited seating. Ambiance is not something I would go here for however the food makes up for it. I have eaten here too and the service was always good but waitlist could be really long. I always like getting the sashimi here because they always cut them in big thick slices! Rice was perfectly cooked. Ingredients were fresh. The oysters were juicy and I'd like to know what that sauce is for the oysters. It's so flavorful. The only feedback is the Milpitas roll is huge. The salmon maki was simple, to the point -- can't go wrong with that! The Sumo roll was, as the name implies, huge. It was a little difficult to eat because it was so big in size, but it was tasty. Casual/cozy ambiance located in a tiny parking lot by a liquor store. For dinner, try to get here when they open to beat the rush! They get busy quickly with demand for both dine-in and to-go. Even so, their service is very quick. Generous fish portions, great variety of food, and well-balanced flavors. Ordered the 20pc Sashimi Combo, Sumo Roll, Train Roll, & Tonkatsu Egg Bowl. The sashimi was so fresh, with thick cuts and a buttery-smooth mouthfeel - so delicious! I reccomend the Sumo Roll if you're a fan of spicy. The pickled jalapeño, tuna, and spicy sauce really stand out in the roll. I dream about the Train Roll and order it every time. It's everything I love in a roll: tempura shrimp, avocado, salmon, lemon, scallops, spicy sauce, & ikura. Such a wonderful mix of creamy textures and a flavor explosion of savory, sweet, and slightly spicy with a hint of brightness from the lemon slices. Lastly, the tonkatsu egg bowl was a generous portion, with juicy pork and light crispy breading, a perfectly cooked oozy jammy egg, and refreshing veggies that balance the tonkatsu flavors. Can't believe I let this one go off my radar! We decided to have date night at home so we went ham on the order. We ordered the Sashimi deluxe, Bluefin Don toro, nigiri deluxe, Ameibi, and spicy tuna roll. I think there was another item but I can remember lol. The important part is they all tasted super fresh, juicy, and delicious!! This was after a 30+ minute deliver commute. Imagine eating it at the restaurant right away!! But they definitely have a lot of different options, from sashimi to simple, extra large and special rolls. As well as a big variety of appetizers, and bento boxes, and also serve salads. So I was taken here by one of my friends who works in SF. Being a toronto native and seeing an aggregate 4 star review for this place I was excited. After trying this place out I gotta say, I think the 4 star rating is deserved for the rolls that the resto makes. They are melt in your mouth. Very generous filling and well seasoned rice. The reason I dropped a star is because the sashimi was not that great. I felt that the sashimi deluxe platter we ordered didn't come w/ fresh fish. Even the otoro (fatty tuna) had some crunchiness to it. Not even kidding. Far be it from me to claim that the sashimi hadn't finished thawing but there was legit crunchiness in some of the fish slices. Take with that info what you will. My friends can corroborate and back me up. Verdict: If I ever visit this place again in the future, I would order a bunch of rolls and not order sashimi.
