Been frequenting Onigilly ever since trying them out in SF, to Palo Alto, Valley Fair and now at the Great Mall. I like their take on onigiri since they use seemingly healthy and fresh ingredients, like brown rice instead of white. And their different filling options. I was looking forward to their unagi but it looks like they do not offer that option anymore. I got the spicy shrimp and crab at this location. The spicy shrimp was spicier than other location but still had nice flavor. The shrimp tasted slightly undercooked and the texture was concerning. For the crab, it had the nice sweet snow crab flavor but beware, as they sometimes have the clear inside part of the shells not fully removed from the crab meat which is what I had in mine. Ordered through DoorDash so cannot really say much about the service but it was quick from order to delivery. read more

Quick bite at Onigilly and it was great! Tried the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki tofu onigiri -- both were super fresh, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. The chicken was juicy with just the right amount of sweetness, and the tofu was surprisingly delicious and well-seasoned. Such a great spot for a light, healthy, grab-and-go meal. My daughter and I popped by for a snack and my goodness I was so happy we did. Onigilly is easy to find. Go in the entrance by Jollibee which is between the anchors of Kohls and Old Navy. When you hit the main racetrack, it's to the right. You order using one of two large tablets, and it's super easy to find what you're looking for. I had the shrimp tempura and my daughter had a spam and an ume that had umeboshi and shiso flakes. The tasty bites are palm sized, so it took us a little bit to eat them. We also got reasonably priced drinks (water and unsweetened green tea). It didn't take long at all for them to show up. I wished I'd taken a picture. There are a few tables and chairs as well as benches where you can sit. And a bathroom is almost across the race track from it so you can wash hands or whatever if needed. Fast food musubis? Say less. Onigilly is located in Great Mall near the Jolibee entrance. They have a whole variety of musubis with a lot of different fillings. These include things like tuna mayo, spam, tofu or eggplant. They also have both krab and crab. I think they use some type of brown rice or grainy rice. I would've liked a more high quality white rice as that's what makes a musubi special, but it was just okay. The fillings are good though and generous in portion. I like getting it as a bento with the chicken karaage, tamago and edamame. The chicken is perfect and so crisp and tender. Overall, scratches a Japanese itch but think a little rice change up would make it five star. read more

I had heard a lot about Onigilly and finally decided to try it since it's inside the mall. It was def worth the visit. Some of the onigiri were decent, some were good, and a few were really great. My favorites were the Spam, spicy shrimp, and spicy tuna ,those were the best in my opinion. We also tried the vegetarian options, which were okay. Other good ones were the ume salmon and snow crab. Hopefully this spot is here to stay because there has been a high turnover at this spot the past decade. This place has the perfect snack if you want something quick, fulfilling and doesn't cost an arm and leg. Who doesn't love rice??? So many different onigiris to choose from! I haven't tried them all but so far I've loved every single one I've ordered. You can order yourself on the kiosk which is my favorite thing in the world because I do not like human interaction. The food comes out really fast and everything is made fresh. Not gonna lie, I wish they stuff more toppings inside because it's mostly rice but hey it's mall food so my expectations can't be too high. Of course onigiris are much cheaper at the Japanese supermarket but it's the mall and we are paying premium price for convenience and a good time so I don't mind. We've been to the Palo Alto location and enjoyed it so I was thrilled to see they had a location in the Great Mall when I visited with friends. You order at a kiosk, I got the bento set with baked salmon and shrimp tempura onigilly along with tamago (egg), edamame, and chicken karaage. Everything was tasty, portion sizes are good, and healthier than fast food! Love it! The only bummer is there is no seating so we had to find a mall bench to sit on and eat. read more

To be honest, I'm pretty excited about all the new offerings at Great Mall lately which includes this Onigilly establishment. I first got to try Onigilly way back in the day at San Francisco and then was really excited it opened up in Valley Fair. Now we are blessed with a Great Mall location which is much closer than the other two for me. As it is relatively brand new, the store is bright and clean with pretty seamless ordering on the two kiosks located in the front of the store. The only pet peeve I can see here is that the receipt machine is shared between the two kiosks so you might have to awkwardly walk over the other machine to retrieve it. Food wise, I really think you cannot go wrong. There are various prices and various selections of Onigilly and others if you want. There is always something that will make you happy. I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant and have ordered from them many times, but today's experience was incredibly disappointing. As shown in the attached photo, the portion size has significantly decreased. The rice ball on the right is nearly half the size of what we usually receive, and many of the other items had much less stuffing than usual. It's frustrating to pay full price for such a lack of consistency. Orders are taken via kiosk and you pick up the onigiris at the right side counter. Employees are nice. Prices are very reasonable, they range from $4-5 for each onigiri depending on whether you opt for a basic onigiri or a deluxe one. They also offer bowls, but I was looking for a small bite so I didn't get the chance to try one. There were so many options it was almost overwhelming but in the end we decided on the Spam Musubi and Snow Crab. The spam onigiri was underwhelming, but the snow crab was good and very flavorful. My main complaint was the rice itself being dry and almost hard. Not my favorite! Overall I kinda regretted going here over choosing something else in the mall to eat. Onigilly was such a tasty experience! I ordered the custom set with 3 onigilly and was pretty happy with what I got! I ordered the salmon tarako, ponzu salmon poke, and spicy tuna poke. The Salmon Tarako was definitely the standout for me, it was creamy, well seasoned, warm, and delicious a 5/5. The spicy tuna poke was also delicious and the crab helped cool the heat a little bit and this was a 5/5 for me too. The ponzu salmon poke was good but definitely doesn't need the crab, it felt like an odd combo to me and the crab was just added to fill you up, it was still good but maybe a 3/5. I also ordered the miso soup, edamame, and pickled radish. The miso soup and edamame were good but the pickled radish was very thinly sliced and not super crunchy, it was a little sad and I wouldn't get it again. Overall, a solid place to eat and I look forward to my next meal here! read more

Food/Drink 3/5: Ordered the bento box with 3 onigiri (baked salmon, spicy bacon (+$0.50), snow crab (+$1.00)), which comes with chicken karaage, edamame, and tamagoyaki. The only item worth coming for is the snow crab onigiri (and I guess the edamame which was cooked and salted well too). The spicy bacon was far too spicy for my liking and the baked salmon filling was partly warmed and partly chilled which led to a rather unpleasant experience. The other sides are just okay, so I would recommend just sticking to the onigiri items. Service 4/5: You place your order at a touchscreen kiosk and then your number is called at the pick up location when ready. Orders came out relatively quickly given how busy it was that day, but they also don't call orders very loudly which meant we had to stay right next to the counter instead of being able to look for a table to sit at. Price $$: Considering you're mostly just paying for rice, as there is not very much filling in their onigiri, I'd say the prices here are a little unreasonable. read more

Came by on a Thursday morning and I was greeted by a young gentleman placing an order is thru two self service service kiosk payable by debit/credit card. I chose one custom bowl with rice and mixed green, teriyaki chicken, soboro ginger beef with all veggies along with a cup of creamy sesame. When its ready for pick up they will called out your number on the printout receipt and I was blown away how large the bowl was with all the fresh veggies, toppings, rice and much more and yes they were very generous. The ends of the wrap were also hard to chew. It wasn't as fresh as the one I had in Palo Alto. Service is non existent up until the moment you get your order. The kiosk cuts that service interactions. Lady that gave me my order just called my number and handed it over. Simple. Easy. Store is clean and looks organized. They are located next to Potato Corner and the best entrance to enter through is Entrance 1. My usual here is their Ponzu Salmon Poke rice ball. Unfortunately, their consistency and quality is hit or miss though because the first time I ordered it - it was good, then the second time I ordered it - it was eh, and the third time I ordered it - I had mild food poisoning. Yummy. Yes, lots of veggies: corn, lettuce, carrots, parsley, onions, edamame, etc. Choose your own salad dressing. I like ponzu sauce and most vinaigrettes. Onigiri is around $4-$5 per piece. You can buy the set meals or customize. Order at the kiosks on left side and pick up order on the right side. Organized and clean. I like the bowl size here. Customer service was good too. Staffs are friendly and helpful as needed. Very fulfilling. You must have a good stomach for these rice snacks or salads. Good impression so far. I think The Great Mall is getting better and improving. There's still room for future improvements. I would revisit to try other items next time. Salad fans would enjoy this place. Ordered two Californias, which is supposed to be crab salad and shrimp tempura. They put no crab salad, so it was just shrimp tempura and a crap ton of rice wrapped in seaweed. They use brown rice so the texture is all weird, shrimp tempura was as soggy as it was crispy, and, again, no crab salad and barely any sauce so it was just sad in general.
