Just wondered in here due to hunger. I ordered all appetizers to try this place out. The cucumber salad was marvelous. The potstickers tasted as the should. And the wings were good but not the best of the 3 dishes to me. Service was quick but when my food arrived quick I was waiting and looking around for a fork to appear and I realized that no forks, and those black thingy on my table is not a straw(since I wasn't given water). It was chopsticks. So yep I ate everything with chopsticks for the first time. It was cool. Food was really good , service was a 4. And ambiance is whatever. I'm definitely going back to try the Katsu and Wagyu Ramen
This casual hidden gem is something that everybody needs. Thhere's a variety of curry dishes to choose from along with other dishes. Curry Pork Tokatsu (5/5): The curry was very comforting and homey. The spices put into was splendid. The pork was juicy and plentiful. Unagi Tempura (5/5): This was my first time trying eel tempura and it blew my mind. I really enjoyed this. It was perfectly balanced with crispness from the perfectly fried tempura and the soft juicy and sweet unagi. I really want to come back for the unagi tempura at least.
You order at the front, grab your own water and utensils, and then find a seat. There's plenty of parking and ample seating inside. We ordered: Chicken Karaage (3/5): It was fine, fried better than the katsu and paired nicely with the mayo. Decent as an appetizer, but it lacked crunch. Chicken Katsu Bowl (2/5): Also just okay. It wasn't very crispy and lacked flavor. Everything just tasted...bland. The chicken-to-rice ratio was off, about 1 to 2. I ended up taking home half a bowl of rice after finishing the chicken.
I thought I had already written a review for Kokolo Donburi, but I must have been mistaken. It's more than overdue, since my family and I always enjoy the food, regardless if we dine-in or take it to-go. When we've dined-in, the service is always quick and friendly. The staff does a good job of making you feel welcome. As for the food, all their dishes are really good. They also don't skimp on their portions, which is greatly appreciated. In addition, the food is always served hot and fresh. We always enjoy dishes like their Oyakodon, Katsudon Rice Bowl and their Pork and Chicken Katsu Curry Don.
Had lunch here. Parking was easy. Staff were friendly and efficient. Didnt have to wait too long for our food to be ready. The restaurant was clean. We ordered the following: Signature Chicken Wings: 2/5 Too salty imo. Sauce was soy based. The drumstick was a bit tough. Chicken Katsu Curry Bowl: 5/5 Curry was delicious! Portions were generous. Chicken was perfectly cooked! Wagyu Beef Curry Bowl: 3.5/5 Curry was a bit too rich for me. Not enough beef compared to rice ratio. Pricey.
This is a decent option for casual, that Japanese food. They have a pretty extensive menu with typical Japanese "faster" meals, like sukiyaki, curry, Katsu, udon, etc. I would say that the food quality here is about average. I got the Sukiyaki, which comes with a really large bowl of soup, udon, cabbage, tofu, fishcakes, mushroom that tasted somewhat mild in flavor. We also got a dish with egg and Katsu, that was OK. I felt like the dish's texture was a little too mushy for my expectations. The way the store works is that you order at front of the register, get a number, then sit down at the table. All the drinks and utensils were self-serve when I came in about 1.5 to 2 hours before closing. The service was nice, however, it was more like a Casual do it yourself vibe. Prices are pretty decent, cheaper than average.
I went here with some friends for dinner. It was highly rated on Yelp and I felt like Japanese food, so it seemed like a good fit. The food was ok. I got the oyakodon and I really wish it had been more flavorful. I had to add sriracha and soy sauce to the rice. There was also quite a bit of a cleaning solution smell. It was pretty unpleasant especially as we tried to enjoy our food. The mix of that smell and the tempura smell wasn't a great combination.

I came on a Monday around 1pm. Unagi Tempura: 4/5 Crispy and light. I enjoyed this. Onakyo Don: 3/5 Just okay, felt like something I can make myself at home. Tasted like steamed egg, chicken, and green onions. Katsu Curry Don: 3.5/5 Meat was a little tough and dry but the curry was tasty. They gave extra curry on the side which was a plus! Prices were affordable and staffs were friendly. I would come back to try other items since the one I wanted to try was sold out.
This place is an affront to Japanese cuisine. Absolutely the worst katsu and oyako don we've encountered so far. Both dishes were extremely dry, nothing was juicy at all; they lacked any kind of flavor whatsoever. The curry just lacked soul that you're better off eating a Mitsuwa grocery pre-packaged curry set. It's so bad that we left our meals half finished and went to In-n-Out nearby instead. I've never had to abandon a meal like this before, but it was *that* bad. Just don't come here. Don't. Especially as your first time trying any of these dishes. They're not representative at all. I feel like I finally understand how Gordon Ramsay feels when he encounters food so offensive to him.
Affordable place for good food. I ordered the chicken gyudon and it was pretty good for the price I paid. There are more options but I've opted for a comforting gyudon. I'd recommend the beef sukiyaki for a soupier experience. Service was "order first then get served", so nothing much to expect. Food was brought out in a timely fashion. Water and to go boxes were self serve It was a bit empty when I went with my friend, but other than that it's a casual place for a quick meal.

Nothing really wow'd me when it came to taste but the portions were really huge. The best item was the sukiyaki. The tempura was fried fresh. The katsu was pretty dry and they gave a lot of rice. Overall Kokolo Donburi is just okay. I don't think I would come back since nothing wow'd me.
Love the food here! This place is one of our favorite restaurants for quick Japanese food. We've had the Beef Sukiyaki Don, Pork Katsu Curry, Gyudon, and Potstickers. Those are our go to usuals and they never disappoint. The noodles have nice firmness, with the soup filling and delicious. Service is always attentive and friendly. You place your order at the counter, they bring your order to you, and they clean up after you. Ambiance is always clean and comfortable. There are always several tables to choose from. We've been here a handful of times and look forward to more visits to come.
This time, I had the Wagyu beef sukiyaki don with rice and shared an order of the fried oysters with my daughter. We've had other dishes before that were also very tasty. Delicious and filling food, prices are still good too! Ambiance is casual, and the tables are spread out which is nice. Service is excellent - you order at the front and they bring the food to your table after a short wait. There's always parking in the lot. Highly recommend!

I got the katsu (pork) curry don ($15 / $17 with a small tip + tax) which was quite affordable. You order at a counter and they bring it out to you with a wait time of around 15 minutes. While the pork was kind of dry, it was a lot of food and the curry tasted like curry so it was whatever. The reason I gave this 4 stars because it was a whole lot of pork for a reasonable price and I was still pretty full after an intense workout. :) read more

The gyudon and chicken katsu were okay. The gyudon had a mild taste and didn't have the savory richness I was expecting. The chicken katsu was thin and didn't have a lot of meat. For the portion size and quality, the pricing is on the higher side and didn't justify the cost. read more

My favorite restaurant in Milpitas! Every time I come back I'm reminded of how good the quality is, how big the portions are, and how cheap it is! The wagyu beef tsukiyaki is only $16 and 6 juicy fried oysters only costs $9! And I still had tsukiyaki leftovers for the next day! I have ordered the katsu curry and beef tsukiyaki multiple times, and still remember how good the egg chicken rice is too. You really can't beat the price or quality here, and there are so many options to choose from! The food comes out quickly and you're able to choose whichever table you want. It's never too busy but even if it were the tables are spread out nicely so you feel like you have plenty of space for yourself or your party! I'm going to meet here with friends more often! read more
Parking lot in this plaza is huge so parking was not a problem! You order at the counter first and the staff members were friendly and helpful. I got the Katsu Curry Don and it was pretty good! It was flavorful, however, the chicken katsu was a bit dry. The portion was also pretty big for me so I had to to-go it! They have a self-service area for utensils and to-go boxes on the right side of the store. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I thought that it would just be rice with toppings, but I liked how the rice was seasoned with more than the toppings. It was very flavorful. The service was fast and responsive. The ambiance was simple and clean. I ordered the Shitake Mushroom bowl, and I was pleasantly with how much oyster mushrooms they used. And the mushroom had a good flavor. I also tried the unagi, and it was very tender. read more
went in & ordered & asked which beers they had - I chose the hazy but then the guy told me they had everything except that one - so I chose the dipa - then a lady took over the register and she said they actually had everything? lol gyu don - mostly just a big ol bowl of rice but at least the beef was tender & juicy pork katsu curry don - curry was nice & not too watery or too salty - but the pork was quite dry :( we sat outside & they brought out the beers & cups & utensils & offered to get water for our dog they also brought the food out faster than I expected so I guess that was nice wind was blowing the empty cans everywhere tho so maybe we shouldnt've put the beers into the glasses lol read more

Food was pretty good. I wouldn't go to far as to say it was amazing but it is on par with fast food chains like happy house. Chicken wings had great flavor; though a bit overcooked. The katsu curry had lots of flavor but also tasted like it came out of the premade curry packets. The mixed tempura was yummy and met expectations. Service was fast and ambiance was nice. Although i wish the AC was turned on; it was a hot day! read more

The food here is great!!! It is a very standard donburi place but highly recommend if you are a fan of donburi. The inside of the restaurant is pretty big with cute art on the walls. The workers are also very nice and polite. read more
Today, we had lunch with some good friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Curry Tonkatsu: Fried Premium Pork or Chicken with House Special Curry Sauce (Rice or Udon) (4/5) - the katsu was partially covered in the curry, which was good. Because you want to appreciate the crunchiness of the katsu! They also give you a little dish of extra curry sauce. Otherwise, the dish would be drenched in sauce. The sauce itself was on the sweeter side and not much spice at all. Jidori Karaage: Japanese Style Fried Chicken Thigh (3.5/5) - Jidori, (地鶏), literally "local chicken", chickens whose parents or one parent are native to Japan and raised according to a prescribed method, such as cage free or free range. It came on a bed of green cabbage and with an orange-colored mayonnaise, lemon wedges. Our friends shared a Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki: Wagyu Beef with Tofu and Vegetables with House Special Soup. They wanted just a udon noodle soup, but they didn't serve this, so they opted for the sukiyaki, which they seemed to enjoy it. The service is always nice, patient, and friendly! At the end of your meal, the workers will clean up the dishes for you. We tried to self bus our dishes but were quickly told to just leave them. Good quality fast-food Japanese food! read more

From comforting noodles and perfectly balanced rice bowls to the creatively crispy Unagi (eel) tempura, I was pleasantly surprised and won over. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and thoughtful presentation. The vibrant Japanese mural, designs, and decorations also created a fun-casual family-friendly atmosphere perfect for a night out! Came to this spot after 2 hrs of bowling. Definitely a very nice warm and comforting meal to end the night. I got the katsudon bowl, my buddy got the gyudon and some takoyaki to share. Personally I liked my meal more than his. The chicken was moist, the egg and rice were also very flavorful with the sauce. No extra seasonings we're needed! The bowl was finished clean. Also appreciate the server informed us of his favorites and Recs of dishes to try. They were very kind and quick to help out. The interior is very spacious, fun artwork, and wasn't packed at all on a Sunday night. Will come back if in the area and craving something warm and simple. Happy to find comforting Japanese food here and this place has so many great choices on their menu. You order first at the register and sit down at any open table and they'll come bring your food. We ordered the unadon (eel) with udon noodles, the chicken wings, oyakodon (chicken, egg, and rice), miso soup and also edamame. The eel was really good and the udon noodles were exceptional. The broth that the came with the udon was lightly sweet and so comforting on a cold day. The oyakodon was also good and there was a lot of chicken. The chicken wings were crispy and had a nice flavor. I recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic Japanese rice bowls and other comforting dishes. This place is casual, so it would be great for either lunch or dinner on any day of the week. I will definitely be coming again and bringing my other friends who love Japanese food. read more
Was in the mood for some katsu don and decided to check out this place in Milpitas. When walking in the decorations is what you notice right away with this restaurant. The server Celeste was super friendly and helpful with explaining the menu since it was my first time here. I was impressed by their self serving bar where you can get your own waters and utensils. What I ordered: Katsu-don (4/5): I was really impressed with how huge the portions are for an entree that is $15, this does not disappoint. It comes with katsu pork, egg, sukiyaki sauce, green onions and marinated onions. You have a choice between chicken and pork and whether you want this with rice or noodles. I felt like the pork lacked a bit of flavor which I wanted but the sukiyaki helped it out a little bit. Miso soup (2.5/5): I felt like the soup was missing a ton of miso paste in this dish since it tasted bland. I was hoping that there would be more flavor in the broth. Luckily the portion for this is huge which $3 a miso soup is such a steal! Overall, not a bad place to go to! I would definitely come back again and try other items out. I was sad to see that there uni-Ikura was out of stock but once it's back I'm going to come back for that one! read more

Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki: Really enjoyed the flavor and tenderness of the meat. Tonkatsu Curry: Solid comfort meal Unadon: The eel was very flavorful and had shreds of egg. For how inexpensive it was I don't mind bones but I wouldn't get it if I was going on a date or your date will be watching you pick out the tiny little bones from the eel/your mouth. read more

Honestly pretty disappointed. I came here because of all the good reviews, but the food didn't live up to the hype. The katsu was really tough and dry, the meat was bland, and overall the dish just didn't have much flavor. The presentation was good, but the food itself was mid and didn't make up for it. read more

i'll rate higher because of pricing and quantity if you're looking for a standard chicken katsu curry this might not hit the spot that's itching the curry is very sweet just keep that in mind that it's not your "typical" japanese curry it's sweeter and less umami but i did enjoy for what it was seperate than what i was expecting especially for the price and the portion! there were a lot of other items too so i'm sure there's something for everyone read more
We went here on a weekday night for dinner. The restaurant was a lot bigger on the inside than we expected and had many tables that were quite spread out. There weren't many people eating at the restaurant, so we were able to quickly order and eat our food. We got the sukiyaki + udon, and chicken katsudon. The sukiyaki was nice and warm and filled with veggies, tofu, and tender meat, but the flavor was slightly lacking - the sukiyaki in Japan were slightly more savory and sweet. Meanwhile, the chicken katsu was solid, and the chicken was crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside. read more
