Also, the child eating it is 9 years old so that goes for taste palettes. The Ocean Roll had mayo that tasted off. I had to spit the whole thing out. Good thing that I ordered 2 rolls for myself. Wow such a good sushi place!! I came around 6pm on a Friday, and it was very packed, but we got seated pretty quickly. The place is small and cozy. We ordered the 880 roll and the storm bringer. The 880 roll was my fav out of the two! It had salmon and scallop, and it tasted soo fresh and buttery. It had the perfect rice to fish ratio. The storm bringer was delicious as well, the pieces are packed with crab! The deep fried crab was so crunchy and the salmon/tuna pieces balanced it out nicely. TLDR: Delicious sushi rolls. Awesome salad A place that's been in business this long has got to be good, right? That was the premise I put forth to my wife, when we were looking for places to eat. My wife wanted to go to the always-great Kakuna Sushi (You can check out my review for that!). But I suggested this place, which I went to almost 6 or 7 years ago. And when I went there the first time, it was in business for much longer than that! My wife shrugged, but I was nervous and excited to test my theory. A restaurant in a dumpy strip mall that has been in business for 10+ years, has got to be good, right? Short answer... Yes! At least, in this case. This place receives a LOT of to-go orders. Their front hallway is filled with racks of DD and UE and all the other food-delivery places. They have "Sealed for Freshness" stickers, the works! We went around 6:15-6:30, and the place was not super packed. We were able to get a table within a few minutes. Not to say the place was deserted either... maybe 70-80% occupancy? We needed vegetables. For regularity. Normally, Japanese restaurants don't have a variety of vegetables. Usually it's the seaweed salad or a side salad. But this place actually has 5-6 huge Salad options, that actually look appetizing! We opted for the Salmon Katsu Salad. To be honest, the salads are all a bit pricey, they are in the $10-13 range, but on the plus side, they are HUGE. I'd say they are more entree sized, and we got 6 big pieces of katsu salmon, which were crispy/crunchy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Very well done! It comes with a dipping/salad dressing sauce too, which I loved. Pretty sure there was some yummy Kewpie in there. Normally we would order 1 bento box, and 2 rolls. But we opted instead to do away with the bento. As my wife put it... most bentos are about the same. So we went with 3 rolls with the option to order more. I think we over-estimated our hunger. We couldn't even finish 1 roll! By the end, we left the Hopyard almost untouched, and finished maybe a half roll each of the other 2? But they were ALL delicious. Wifey definitely thinks the fish here are fresher than at Kakuna. She liked the quality of the rolls here a LOT more. But Kakuna is still very good and very unique. In total, we got the BTS , Hopyard, and the Unagi roll. We really loved each one. Would definitely come back to this place. It's a bit old the decor, but the food is still pretty tasty. read more

I saw the great reviews for Sen Dai and thought it might be overhyped, but it is WORTH the hype. We walked in and there was a 30-minute wait. Usually, there's not much wait for Japanese restaurants unless it's a high-end restaurant, so this took me by surprise. We ordered the maguro sashimi, ACE roll, Sen Dai roll, Saba shioyaki, tempura, and the tonkatsu bento. The maguro sashimi was good but not as good as everything else. The ACE roll was my fav out of the two rolls! So delicious! I asked for no wasabi sauce because I'm not the biggest fan of wasabi. My friend's Sen Dai roll was a little spicy from the jalapenos but tolerable. The best dishes we got were the bento boxes. The tonkatsu was crispy, light, and I was pretty surprised by how good it was! My favorite was the Saba shioyaki. It was insanely flavorful and probably the best shioyaki I've ever had. We ordered three rolls: cherry blossom, lion king, and the 237. Rolls are not only a decent size but the fish is also fresh and rice is perfect. I ordered on DoorDash and this is my first time eating from this place and I can just say it is some of the best sushi/Japanese cuisine I have had in the Bay Area! I'm really disappointed with the customer service at Sen Dai Sushi. Over the past three months, I've ordered from them regularly, either picking up food or dining in with my kids. My kids love the California rolls, and I always order the same thing: the Chicken Teriyaki Bento, well done. This week, however, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento, and the chicken was completely different from what I've had about 10 times in the last two months. It didn't look fully cooked and definitely wasn't well done as I requested. When I called the restaurant to let them know, they insisted it was cooked to a certain temperature but didn't offer any solution. They didn't care that the chicken looked different and wasn't prepared as requested, and they kept talking over me as if I was in the wrong. I called to address the issue less than five minutes after picking up my order, yet they refused to offer any help or resolution. Their lack of concern for customer satisfaction and unwillingness to listen left me frustrated. I didn't end up eating my food, and it was just a waste of money. Ambiance is very average to low end. You come in and there are extension cables taped to the wall. The food was less then desirable. Ordered sushi and they served some stale ready made wasabi that did not dissolve within the soy sauce. Asked for fresh wasabi and they said it was extra. That one was also prepared the morning off. So not really "Fresh". Alas, all good things must come to an end. They have changed the menu and my favorites are no longer available. Honda roll (basically a spicy scallop maki) is gone. They still offer spicy scallop as sushi or sashimi, but cannot be made into a roll. The nigiri appetizer used to be garnished with a variety at the chef's whim, but now comes in one of two styles only. The sumo roll that we used to order has the same name, but is not the same item anymore. We tried some other items, but nothing was worth ordering again. Parking is challenging during lunch time. Their poke is called Hawaiian Poke Salad. $14. You will not have a way to choose what kind fishes and base you want. But the choices they made for me is pretty good to me: the base is very similar to green vegetables and the fishes are salmon, hamachi and tuna, I believe. I was intrigued by the concept of the baked roll wrapped in foil, but TBH soon after taking my first bite I realized I don't love hot sushi.
