I came with a party of six for my birthday and she was very attentive, ensured our orders were accurate, and that we received everything in a timely manner. We tried a bit of everything from agedashi tofu, the rice bowls, classic rolls, and specialty rolls. I thoroughly enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio. The fish was buttery, had a mellow flavor, and the two types of citrus were a nice touch. The unagi rolls, crunchy roll, and specialty rolls were great. Dining is indoors exclusively and there are no reservations. Staff all wore a uniform t-shirt along with their own facemask. Staff was a mix of Hispanic and Asian. Portions are gigantic, in-line with the Americanized theme. The clientele tends to be quite local... Started off with the rainbow roll and it was gigantic. There were numerous pieces of raw fish topped over a California roll filled with a ton of imitation crab. The spider roll was also tasty with a soft shell crab and imiation crab mix. The tempura mix was gigantic although the oil quality wasn't too fresh. The grilled salmon collar was my favorite as the collar was fresh and served with a ponzu sauce. I absolutely adore this gem in Milpitas!! From the moment they opened, they were already packed with guests because of how popular this place is. They charge affordable prices, they have good food portions, and their food is sooo delicious!! I got the bento box with the tempura add on. Everything was so fresh and so tasty. I loved that the bento came with a couple side dishes like miso soup and some seasoned bean sprouts. It was so healthy and so good. For a little bit more you get to add on tempura and you get a decent amount of crispy freshly fried tempura. My family and I love trying new sushi spots whenever we're celebrating a special occasion, and that's how we stumbled across Sen Dai Sushi. We arrived right before they closed for their dinner prep at 1:40 PM, so we were worried they might not be able to seat us or that we'd feel rushed, but our server was amazing. She was attentive, polite, and made us feel completely welcome. We're huge fans of raw fish, especially when it comes to sushi, and the hamachi and toro were incredibly fresh--melt-in-your-mouth good. I barely even needed to use any ginger, which says a lot about the quality and freshness. We ordered a ton of appetizers, but the real stars of the meal were the baked scallop roll and the baked mussels. The sauce that came with the baked mussels was so good that we found ourselves dipping our other dishes into it. I heard a lot of good things about this sushi spot. It is a small restaurant in a small plaza with limited parking and a fairly good amount of seating within the restaurant. My friend and I came here for lunch and it was crowded. We ordered sushi and each individual sushi pieces within the roll were BIG! Loved it but at the same time it was hard to eat it. We had to put the whole piece in our mouth or it would fall apart and become messy. So the size of the sushi was a good and bad thing.. A favorite spot for us to visit, though we somehow managed to forget to write a review for it until now. It's usually quite busy, the parking lot is small and usually full, and there's almost always a huge queue of take-out orders lined up at the entrance. We ordered our staples - the rainbow roll, crunch roll, and the baked salmon roll. We also tried out the Alaska roll. The fish quality, as always, is amazing, fresh, and consistent from all the times (probably 20+ times, since 2015!) we've been here, and the price has always been pretty low. Love Sen Dai. Huge variety of sushi, fresh fish, FAT slices, cheap prices. My favorite roll is the happy blossom roll as someone who loves california rolls, spicy salmon, and tobiko. Dined in on Labor Day 2025 and the amount of tobiko on my roll was insane and almost moved me to tears. Each piece of sushi is almost too big to eat in one bite cleanly. The bento boxes are all good quality and give a lot of meat as well, and very flavorful vegetables to cut through the sauce on the meats. Miso soup is good. Obviously their sashimi is excellent. Their speciality is their raw fish though, 100%. Service is always quick and gracious, the workers here are never slacking and will provide everything that they can. My FAVORITE is the very simple SJ roll - hamachi, avocado, and jalapeño We also love the salmon don, spring roll, and occasionally get sashimi. However, there have been quite a lot of misses with the sashimi, i.e., receiving albacore when we ordered escolar, or toro pieces being very sinewy/chewy. Official rating- 4.5 stars This place is my go to sushi spot. I love the sashimi here. It is fresh and prepared well every time. Whether I order takeout or dine in, the portions are consistently the same, with the only exception being the ginger, which you cannot get extra of with to go orders. Service is always attentive, friendly, and quick. They can get pretty busy and do not use a waitlist, so plan accordingly. There is a decent amount of seating inside, and the restaurant is very clean. The sashimi is always thick cut and especially satisfying for a salmon lover. The rolls are solid across the board as well. I am surprisingly a big fan of their California roll because the mayo to crab ratio is just right. On my most recent visit, the salmon had sinew in every piece, which was disappointing since I usually hold this place in high regard. Food: Chicken-Katsu Salad Appetizer: 4.2/5 We have definitely had this salad before and it's really good with the dressing that they provide. They serve it with their house dressing that I believe might be a mayo sesame dressing of sorts. It's the typical one that you might find at other Japanese restaurants. That combined with the crispy veggies is amazing. The katsu was also nice. It didn't seem piping hot when we came out, but maybe that's kind of a nice thing here because all of the veggies would've wilted. That does mean that the meat is on the drier side versus being a nice juicy piece of chicken katsu. Otherwise, I love this salad when it's mixed together and eaten. Very refreshing and adds a little something to the meal overall. Storm bringer: 4.5/5 100% the favorite today. The combination of the different items was so good and I really like the variety. This roll has soft shell crab and crab roll that's topped with yellowtail, salmon, eel, avocado, unagi sauce, and ikura. Personal favorite component is the eel and side pieces with the soft shell crab. Kind of sucks that they only provided one piece of eel here though. Appearance wise, I also think that this one is the most appetizing due to all of the colors. Perhaps that's because there are too many other components. Also, that would be one way to cut costs, you know, but I digress. Quite the mouthful, but the texture is really nice. That combined with the garnish and sauce is just chefs kiss. Blondie Bombshell: 4.2/5 Second favorite of the bunch which is a "fresh water eel, avocado roll" topped with yellowtail. Eel in anything usually doesn't do me wrong. This one has a nice texture component to it from the macadamia nuts. Love that there are some larger pieces and some smaller pieces. Very interesting that these are the nuts of choice, but I'm not complaining. Definitely nice with the common nut allergy being peanuts. Again, very nice flavor and can't go wrong with the eel. Super umami and nice balance of flavors through and through. Avocado seemed fresh too and not completely oxidized in there, which is nice. Secret: 3.8/5 This one was my least favorite of the three today. It's one of their baked rolls. The salmon felt a little dry for me. Definitely a flakey salmon, but I feel like it could've used just a lightly bit less torching. With this fish, it also can be rich and oily, and that's what happened. That combined with the sauce on top left the bottom and top feeling really oily. I'm not too fond of that mouthfeel. There is some rice to counter and absorb some of that, but it does coat my mouth. Flavor wise, it was also really good. This place does a good job with balancing flavors and garnishes overall. --------- Quality: Seems good Can't really tell the difference between sushi fish qualities, but it's good enough for me from what I've observed. Their fish usually has a nice color to it, which I really like. They don't seem to skimp on the tops and garnishes, which I really appreciate. Price: Fair to expensive For me, these prices are quite average for a roll these days. The price range will be within $15 to $18 for a roll. Looking at the rolls themselves though, they really don't seem that big, so these prices could lean on the more expensive side. Their quality seems appropriate though, so I will pay for that quality. Service: Very nice and fast The service here is actually quite good. They checked on us about 3 times throughout our dinner. Water refills are very common and quite fast. Once they see that our cup is empty, they're pretty quick to come back and refill it. Ambiance: Not big, not small Interior is not big but not small. For the volume of customers that they get, they could probably expand a bit. I respect that they don't try to shove more tables inside because then we would be too close to each other and I really like having that space in between people and parties. Quite dim lit inside, but it's not bad. Their interior is also quite dark. Very warm and cozy if anything. Location/Parking: Terrible, but we get lucky Their parking lot is really small. There's perhaps 30 spaces more or less. My friends and I usually get there at opening time and we haven't had to park on the side or streets yet. We got here and put our names down on the waitlist and when it was our turn we were short one person (they got lost and made a wrong turn) but per their policy they didn't seat us as our whole party (of 6) wasn't here. Our last person got here later and they had already given away our table (which I understand is fair, but we had most of our party there and also the order for the late friend). We waited a little bit longer to get seated. To their credit their rolls were HUGE and came out super fast. The fish tasted fresh and the rolls were definitely tasty. Sen Dai shares a small lot with other businesses so parking can be hit or miss. We arrived a little before they opened and there was already a line! People really like this place! We were seated pretty quickly and placed our orders. The place filled up immediately upon opening. My partner got the tonkatsu and egg bowl. It was nice and crispy. Huge portion sizes, pork was juicy. Food came out quick. I got the happy blossom roll, which was a generous size and the fish was fresh. We also split an unagi roll. The eel was yummy. However, be careful eating here. I got an eel bone stuck in my tonsil. So just be more careful than I was! I would come back but would take more care to be sure that there aren't any bones. We came for dinner and were seated right away without having to wait which was nice since we were starving. The restaurant was maybe half full which was surprising because this place was usually packed. The entrance still needs work. They expanded the restaurant but didn't improve the entrance. It's narrow already and they have these racks for to go orders and pick ups, which really cramps the area especially in the winter when everyone is walking in and out with big jackets. Immediately our server took our drink orders after we got seated. They offered water or hot green tea, and hot tea was good on a cold night. Our server gave us a bit of time before she came back to take the rest of our order. We ordered tempura appetizer, salmon nigiri, a booty call and sexy-tem rolls, and a chicken katsu beef curry udon. I am giving a one star because Sen Dai is clearly not prioritizing customer service. I had a very nice lunch celebrating my birthday with my daughter and sister. The food and our time together were wonderful. After we finished our meal and paid, we continued to sit and visit for a little while. We were then asked to leave by the head waitress Keyana because the restaurant needed our table for other customers waiting for lunch. We were surprised by this, especially since we could see several empty tables in the restaurant. I understand that restaurants can be busy and need to manage their tables, but I felt the way this was handled was disappointing. You can tell the shrimps are fresh and fish too. The service was good, quick and easy. My favorite dish would be the Marks Roll and 237. The shrimp in the Marks roll was very juicy and savory, the crab salad compliments it so well. The 237 roll was so flavorful and it may look like too much is going on but the flavors blend well together. The tempura appetizer was honestly one of the best ones I've had so far! The slices of potato were huge, and sweet. I plan on coming back again very soon! The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. Tables are nicely spread and there is space to move around if yo need to go to the bathroom. Felt very cozy.
