This spot has a lot going for it: spacious interior, clean environment, and even KBBQ options but overall, my experiences have been a bit mixed. The banchan variety is actually really good, which is a highlight for me, though the kimchi isn't my favorite. My personal go-tos are the Korean jelly (muk muchim), broccoli, tomato, and macaroni salad. I'd honestly come back just for the banchan spread. That said, for the price, the main dishes are just okay. One big plus: they serve purple rice, which I always appreciate. Service has been very hit or miss. We asked for a refill on the muk muchim, and our server said they were "sold out"... but then the table next to us was immediately served it. The food here is consistently good and something we always enjoy. That said, the service could be warmer -- the servers seem very rushed and rarely smile. I understand it's a busy restaurant, but a little friendliness would go a long way. One downside is the DoorDash notification. Came here with a friend because I really wanted some Galbi Jjim and this place definitely did not disappoint. It's a decent sized restaurant in Milpitas, with a bunch of other restaurants, so while there's limited parking in front of the actual restaurant, there's a much larger parking lot a little bit away from it. Once you go inside, there's a lot of booths, but they can be a little tight if you're a bigger person (like myself) but they're not too bad otherwise. I ordered Galbi Jjim and my friend ordered bibimbap and both were very delicious and VERY large portions. The Galbi Jjim can easily feed 2-3 people, especially when you add in the very generous bonchon selection you get. It was very well done, ample meat, a good amount of veggies, and so on. The bibimbap also was an excellent sized portion, though I'd recommend the stone bowl, so it stays warm the whole time. I love jang su jang. It's my favorite nourishing solo meal spot. I love the spicy cold noodles and I love the dine in panchan (side dishes). I learned that you get 8 side dishes when dining in but only 4 side dishes if you do take out. I've also tried the acorn noodles which was really tasty. It was so much much for one person though so I would definitely recommend getting it for 2 people or packing some to go. We've been here for Korean bbq but may have ordered the wrong things. I just continuously get impressed by their side dishes and how nourishing it is with the added soup as well. Everything under $30, my noodle dish with panchan. Jang Su Jang is a solid Korean spot in the bay! It feels very welcoming and comforting when you walk in. There's plenty of seating so we got seated right away in one of the booths. The inside is spacious and they have regular seating and seating for kbbq. We ordered a la carte and everything came out pretty quick. The banchan was delicious and the waitress kept refilling whenever needed. The rose tteokboki was a bit too creamy for me and not spicy enough but was still good. Came here yesterday night around 7pm for dinner because I was craving soup and wanted something to soothe my throat. We drove a bit out of the way because my boyfriend wanted a Korean restaurant that served Galbi jjim so we both could eat what we wanted. Upon arrival, it was packed inside but we were able to get seated immediately. For a Monday night, wow. We ended up ordering the Galbi jjim with cheese and I got the Galbi tang. We did want to try the steamed egg, but it seemed like too much food haha. The Galbi tang came out first and the broth was so hearty and flavorful. It helped soothe my throat a lot. The noodles inside are wider and the meat cuts were different than I'm used to at other restaurants. When the bowl came out, it reminded me of pho but Korean style. I'm glad I doubted the meat cuts because it exceeded my expectations. The meat ended up being SO tender. It wasn't dry either like some other places. The meat had a combination of meat and fat with each bite. My boyfriend throughly enjoyed the Galbi jjim. The portion here is so big which is why they charge so much. The sauce was packed with flavor and spice while the cheese helped balance out the dish well. Good assortment of nutritions with the meat and veggies in here. It's been a while since we've been back and actually eat in person. Generally we're grab and go type of people but we had family visiting so we ate in person this time. In short, a little pricey, but hearty Korean food with friendly service. L O C A T I O N Jang Su Jang is off of Calaveras Blvd. In the same plaza as Grocery Outlet and Paris Baguette. The parking siutation here is horrible especially during peak eating times. Since they're basically competing with a few other very popular restaurants and they all share the same parking area. I N S I D E There are bbq grilling stations with the exhaust right above the tables if you're going to to do that. But it's a spacious restaurant. Just be forewarned, you will smell like food. M E N U Menu hasn't changed in the years but of course the prices have. Darn inflation. The food quality seems to go up and down. Compared to the last time we had seafood pancake here, it seems like we're back on the up. I don't think you can go wrong here, everything is really good. The ban chan also the most diverse I've seen though I wish they had jap chae as a ban chan. The dumpling tofu soup was delicious especially on a cold day. Definitely cleans up your sinuses. The spicy pork was the right amount of spicy and I did appreciate that the pieces were minced as I have issues chewing these days. The LA Galbi was fine. I didn't concentrate on eating that as we were more focused on the more spicy items as our other family members don't particularly like spicy foods. S E R V I C E Service was good. This is a long overdue review! My mom fell in love with this place because she had been craving Korean food for a long time. We would order the LA Galbi, Seafood Pajeon, and Seafood Soon Tofu. We all start with a complimentary banchan like kimchi, radish, spinach, and more. LA Galbi- still sizzling with grilled perfection. Not too burnt, not undercooked. You can take the meat right off the bone. Seafood Pajeon- lots of seafood and chives, crispy outside and firm inside Seafood Soon Tofu comes with a raw egg you can crack on your own. It's medium spicy, soft tofu with clams and shrimp. It's great with complimentary rice. It's a bit pricey, yet this place is fancy, clean, and spacious. There's a grill table to grill your meat too. My part of the table ordered Bibimbap, Kimchi and Beef Soon Tofu, and Deoji Bulgogi. The Tofu Soup was delicious and flavorful and paired well with the tasty Bibimbap that we ordered as well. We accidentally ordered the Pork Bulgogi thinking it was Beef but I was surprised with how well the spiciness added to the flavor of the pork. There were lots of banchan as well! We had a fairly large party but the wonderful workers of this restaurant had no problem seating us as fast as possible as we got a table fairly quick. I ordered Combo A, which was around $150, and considering the meats are roughly $50 each, I expected much better quality. The brisket in particular was dry and lacked flavor, which is honestly unacceptable at that price point. The service was okay at best, nothing terrible but nothing memorable either. Overall, the experience just didn't match the cost. I wouldn't come back -- for the same price, somewhere like 10 Butchers would have been a way better choice with better quality across the board. ***3.5 stars*** I've been to Jang Su Jang many times throughout the years. Pretty standard Korean food. I wouldn't say it's in my list of go-to Korean restaurants, as I think there are other Korean restaurants I'd prefer, but it gets the job done if you have the craving. Service was wonderful. Our waitress was kind, efficient, and checked in frequently. Our side dishes were refilled quickly as well. During my most recent visit, my party of 5 shared 2 tofu soups, vegetable pancake, dolsot bibimbap, and japchae. They were all fairly good, but nothing stood out to me in particular. I enjoyed the vegetable pancake the most. My favorite side dish is the mung bean jelly. They also only had 2 flavors for soju: grapefruit and peach. As soon as we placed our order, they served as banchan and a cup of white rice. Reading the comments seems like they also serve purple rice. Will ask for that next time I come back. We ordered king size dumpling soup and spicy pork dish (which is served on a hot plate). We also got the Korean OB beer, which pairs really well with the spicy pork dish. This restaurant is family style, which means each dish is meant to be shared (the portions are big which justifies the cost of the dishes). This place is perfect for a group or for date nights. Ate here last week--part dinner, part nostalgia trip, part low-stakes gamble on whether the South Bay still knows how to throw down a decent Korean BBQ spread. TL;DR: It's not going to make you forget K-Town, but it's a solid enough showing for those of us unwilling to drive 6 hours round-trip for brisket. Let's talk meat. The galbi is textbook--sweet marinade, decent sear, but you're not getting premium marbling or anything that screams "fly me to Seoul." The pork belly's good if you catch them on a fresh batch day. We also had the bulgogi, which was maybe the weakest of the bunch--tender enough, but a little too sugary, almost like it was trying too hard to be liked. Still, nothing offensive. And the grill swap game was surprisingly proactive, though I wouldn't bet money on consistency. Banchan is where they earn back some cred. You get the full rainbow: proper kimchi with some funk, nice crunchy radish, silky japchae, and a soybean sprout salad that actually tastes like something. No duds in the lineup, which is rare enough these days to be noteworthy. Even the potato salad (yes, I know) wasn't a throwaway. Sundubu was fine. Not legendary, but it wasn't watery, and it came out bubbling like it meant business. Naengmyeon had bounce, but the broth leaned a bit sweet and lacked the iciness and bite I'd expect. Didn't ruin my night, but didn't make it either. Service is a coin toss. On a good day, you'll get someone attentive and borderline cheerful. On a bad day, you're invisible unless you make eye contact like your life depends on it. We had both in one sitting. The first server was clearly on auto-pilot; the second came in halfway through and actually smiled--jarring, but welcome. Decor leans... aggressively neutral? Feels like a corporate off-site dinner venue from 2009. Not bad, just functional. No K-drama vibes, no grandma's kitchen kitsch. It's a space designed to recede while you contemplate whether your third piece of brisket was really necessary. All in all, 4 stars. Not a destination, but definitely a reliable spot if you need a Korean fix without surrendering half your weekend to traffic. It's as good as it gets around here without heading to Santa Clara or risking the Yelp roulette of strip mall joints. We ordered a LA galbi, japchae, a spicy beef noodle soup without spicy, and a seafood tofu soup. Tho solace doesn't have a lunch menu, it's the same menu all day long. I was disappointed at their banchans of the day. We had very few dishes of banchan seeved to us and a couple of them were repeats, so only a handful of varieties. Such as strings of potatoes, spicy cucumbers, kimchi, fish cake, bean sprouts and seaweed. Food wise, flavors were above average. The broth on both noodle soup and tofu soup wasn't overly salty, I like them on the less salty side. Japchae portion was decent, quite a few of protein seen, the noodle soup was a good portion as well. Galbi was on the small side for $30; it wasn't even enough to go around each person twice... sad... Service was usually good here, tables and booths were clean. Good alternative to Daeho! Jang Su Jang's galbi jjim is much cheaper ($79) than Daeho and there's no wait time even though we came on a Saturday night. We got the galbi jjim and tteokbokki to split with 4 people and the portions were fine. Nothing too special about the tteokbokki but I do wish there was cheese on the galbi jjim.
