Being a tourist, I was not sure of what to do or where to go in a day trip to Cheyenne. Google recommended the ranch and as a bonus, the restaurant. We went the week after Frontier Days so it was very slow and quiet, wait time was non existing and hostess was short and brief but polite. The ambiance was what I had envisioned for a steakhouse in Wyoming with the addition of slot machines. The windows were open and the fans were on with major cabin vibes but the flies, though I read about them, I was not ready for the amount of flies. It was hard to eat with them flying all over and you feeling like you have to defend your food at all times. The food itself was OK. We really enjoyed the bison chili and my husband liked his burger but I was sad to see my steak and baked popotato were pretty dry. The flavor was there though, and our waitress was nice which made for a better experience. I don't hate the place and I actually think it's a good place to go to if you're at the ranch but not sure if I'd travel far for it. read more

Stopped by this spot after visiting Terry Bison Ranch next door, and while I would still recommend this for a quick and convenient bite to eat if you're visiting the ranch/driving by, I wasn't terribly impressed with the food. Most of their dishes are American comfort foods, so don't expect them to be prepared in an excellent or extravagant fashion. My boyfriend and I ordered the bison steak and bison sliders (since we can't really get bison as readily in California), and were disappointed with how dry and gamey the meat tasted (especially compared to other bison dishes we tried in Colorado). The Senators Steakhouse doesn't get enough credit ... it is an awesome place to grab bar food / wings / steak / burger ... service staff is awesome and it has a great bar that overlooks the Terry Bison Ranch. It also now houses the gaming pallor Wyoming Downs for exciting slot machine gambling - the must be 50 slot machines and we have found them to be fairly "loo$e. We were staying at the RV Park at the ranch and decided to try out the restaurant onsite. First of all we had a great waitress, pleasant and attentive. I ordered the trout and husband the Philly Cheese steak sandwich with prime rib. He thought it had a good flavor but would have preferred more onions and smaller pieces of meat. Nice old-west atmosphere. While at the Terry Bison Ranch, we fed and petted the bison on the little train ride, and had the privilege of eating bison for dinner (and then again for breakfast.) Wife and I split a bison ribeye. I am not used to gamey meat, but it was tasty, if a bit grisly in places. Pretty nice loaded baked potato as a side dish, could have used more toppings (shredded cheese...?) and nice fresh side salad. Server wasn't coming around very often. Was disappointed to learn Senators Steakhouse is not the restaurant of 3 years ago where I had a delicious filet Wa baked potato. Instead a casino is in the old rustic dining room and the grill is now where the covered porch was. My strip steak was good but it was not a filet that I had anticipating on my road trip home. My understanding is it was bought out and things have changed. The staff that was working was very accommodating and very friendly. They even let us hang out awhile longer as a huge afternoon thunderstorm rolled through as we were finishing up our meal. It is worth a stop if you are staying in the campground just don't have your heart set on a filet and baked potato. read more

After looking at the poor reviews, my husband and I decided that we would give this place a shot and I'm glad we did! We walked into this place and felt like there was a dress code posted somewhere that we missed, because EVERYONE was dressed in western attire! Jeans, boots, and hats galore! We even saw one ages gentlemen walk in with spurs on his boots and two hooks for hands. No lie. The reason I give it a 4/5 was our wait time. We came in on a Friday night around 6 and even though there were dozens of empty tables, we had to wait 45 minutes until a server could accommodate us. I felt pretty bad for her, because we saw that she alone was attending to 4 large parties at the same time. It took us a long time to get our food, but the wait was pleasant because of the live band they had that evening and the fantastic people watching spot that Terry's provided. We got the Bison Nachos and a burger. Honestly, the Nachos were so filling that we could have easily split that. They definitely try to steer you toward purchasing the buffet (haha, no pun intended), but you really don't need to do that. We got to see the sunset at 8:30 and had we not been in a hurry, I would have loved to tour the grounds an grab a drink. The chilli was also sweet, at first I liked it, but it quickly became overly sweet & mushy. I am a slow eater so maybe if you aren't it won't be as, "mushy." A huge plus you can walk around free at the ranch right over the hill to pet & look at all the animals. If you count that in it's a good deal. I was impressed with the Bison tour but everything went down hill at the Steakhouse. Me and my Brother ordered a Bison Ribeye with a Caesar salad. When the salads came out they were house salads with Caesar dressing. I have never had a Caesar with tomatoes and onions. Next, when the Ribeyes came out, they looked like 2 different steaks when we confronted the waiter about the disparity, he said they were different cuts. We agreed and said that my brother's was not even close to a Ribeye. He asked if we wanted to speak to the cook, which we did. When the cook came out and confirmed that the steak was indeed a Ribeye, with no fat cap, marbling, or the fact that it was no 10oz, we knew we were dealing with a steakhouse that knew nothing about steaks and that it was pointless to argue. I have never been to a steakhouse where they bring out the cook and not the manager to talk to the patrons about how the most expensive meal on the menu is not living up to standards. We went here with our children for an evening while staying for a night at Terry Bison Ranch! My last time here was 13 years ago, and wanted to sghare the experience with my children,. We were lucky to have Chris as our server who was wonderfully accomodating, and went above and beyond for us (created a "bison ribeye" special option for us, provided the children and us with complimentary chocolate cake for dessert). He was very friendly and open about explaining changes this year to the restaurant.
