Full disclosure, takeout. And I get it--in this area, I'm not expecting anything other than Americanized Mexican food. But this is the worst Mexican food I've had maybe ever. We usually go with Las Fuentes, which is owned and run by a Mexican family (they also have a Mexican grocery store next door). We decided to try something different, Senor Lopez. Big mistake. I had a soggy fajita quesadilla, with the tortilla not even grilled. Chicken practically sanitized without any spice or char or flavor. It was dripping tomato juice (the tomatoes were also the cruddy, tasteless kind). Refried beans were bland too. They forgot our order of rice. My husband's burrito wasn't much better. He described it as, "bland wrapped in a cold tortilla." His tortilla also hadn't seen a grill. My husband said it was busy, but this is the kind of bad that's developed over time; this wasn't just because of busyness. They quoted us 10-15 minutes and delivered on that time--I would rather wait longer and have better food. Hopkinsville is limited, but if you want some form of Mexican eats, go with Las Fuentes or Tacos El Papi. read more

My family had reserved space at this establishment for my grandson's 8th birthday. We were enjoying our meal until the end. My daughter-in-law had asked the manager if he would be willing to have a few of the workers sing "Happy Birthday" to my grandson to honor his special occasion. My daughter-in-law was denied. A small minute of time could not be spared to make a young boy feel special. We sang him "Happy Birthday" and purchased his dessert. This should not have been. The establishment of Senor Lopez sucks. We took her car in for an estimate of the repair shop next-door. Because it was time for lunch we decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat. The place was fairly busy, but we were seated right away. We were brought complementary chips.OMG! Salsa was out of this world chips were Fresh and homemade. When the steak quesadilla arrived l, it was steaming hot! Took a bit of the steak and once again OMG! It was cooked to perfection. Tender, bite size strips with the best seasoning I have ever had. The eggs and chorizo were also cooked to perfection. I have had the pleasure of eating at Senor Lopez several times since I have moved to Hopkinsville. The first time I ordered Juavos Rancheros and they were very good. The last two times I got their Carnitas and I just loved them. Not only was the pork excellent but the rice and beans were delicious. I am looking forward to going back. read more

I'm from Southern California, I'm part Mexican and I grew up eating homemade Mexican food. I have had the hardest time finding what I know as true authentic Mexican food ever since I moved to the south. Unfortunately, this place wasn't much different than the others I've tried. The service wasn't the best either. I ordered a combination plate and asked if they had pork tamales, the waiter seemed annoyed by my question and told me they only have beef and chicken. The masa was undercooked and still doughy. I asked for extra salsa and it took me asking 3 people before I got it. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. I had to add salt and Valentina just for it to have flavor. Whatever cheese they use in the chile relleno was gross. It tasted like white America cheese. The rice and beans were actually pretty decent. The taco was an American taco, it was OK. My daughter had the kids grilled chicken and rice. That was actually good. They normally serve it with some type of "queso" but I asked for no cheese. I don't know why everywhere out here wants to smother food in "cheese sauce". It's just weird. We did get a side of grilled shrimp and that was the best thing we ordered. I'm giving them 3 stars because the prices were great, however, we did get that we paid for. I might try it again, but go with something a little more difficult to botch, like fajitas. Also the lighting was really awkward. The lighting was bright in the middle and super dark at the edges. Senior Lopez is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Hopkinsville. The decor is pretty generic (the building was not originally a Mexican restaurant) but the food and service is solid. They had outdoor seating, so it's a good idea we had thought to ask. Since our friends were travelling with their dog, it was perfect for us. The waiter was the sweetest and most accommodating and helped us find vegetarian options. The amount of food was very, very adequate and large! It was also super delicious. We weren't very hungry to begin with, yet we managed to finish everything on the order! Sitting outside might not be a very good idea if you can avoid it, as you get plagued by flies and horse flies, but it was still very wonderful service. And the waiter came out frequently to check on us as we were the only ones sitting out. And he made sure that we were served. So thank you. You definitely deserve better ratings! read more

This place is somewhat new....its in the old Dots building and even incorporate a few of the old Dots menu items along with new "Mexican" items on the menu. Ahhhhh.....Its bad. Even the free chips were bad.....horrible salsa which resembled canned crushed tomatoes with no cilantro. Dishes were cold and tasteless.....and uninspired. Wait staff is 50/50 on friendliness and correctness. They will need to improve.......or in a few months this place will close. I hate that I wasted my Saturday lunch time and money here. Great staff, fast service! We used to frequent a different Mexican restaurant every Friday but we have switched to Senor Lopez!

Don't get me wrong the food is the best mexican in town! However, I order the same exact thing EVERY time & the price is somehow different EVERY time!!! I always order on either a Friday or the weekend & the price is literally always different by 6-10 dollars!! Am I missing something here? I can't be the only one this happens to? It's not a huge difference, but kinda annoying & it always depends on who takes my order. & I'm a regular there. read more

Placed a pick up order at 9:32 on a Saturday which I admit super late but they are supposed to be open till 10 according to their times posted, I asked the lady taking my order if it was okay if I placed an order for pick up she said "yes of course" she took my order told me to give them 10 to 15 minutes, I left my house and headed in that direction got there at 18 minutes and the doors were locked I called about 4 times and they wouldn't pick up they turned off their open sign. So I decide to cut my losses and leave after about 10 minutes of being outside, they call me and asked about the pick up order pretty much down to the T of me leaving a review, about the order. Best part is when I walk in there is still people sitting an eating inside and pretty much most of the people just look at me sideways. He gave me a cheese dip on the house which I appreciate and he apologized can't really ask for much more. read more

Ok, this place is gross! The restaurant itself had no ambience whatsoever, no Latino music, nothing about the decorations even suggested Mexican. And it was dirty, too. A lot of the tables weren't cleaned off and it wasn't for lack of staff! There was garbage all over the floor, yuk! The fella who waited on us had an accent so thick (I'm not sure it was even Mexican), you could hardly tell what he was saying and he wasn't very forthcoming with information. You had to play 20 questions with him. Me: "What kind of cheese is in these enchiladas?" Him: "Melted cheese." Me, incredulous: "*What* kind of cheese?" Him: "Shredded cheese." Me: "Shredded cheese?" Him: "Yes." Me: "What *kind* of shredded cheese?" Him: "Got cheese." Me: "Goat cheese?" Him: "Yes." The rice is even too bland for me, in other words, tasteless! The beans were disgusting, no taste and they had put some runny white liquid on them that was, well, who knows? I couldn't tell! I asked for cheese enchiladas and got goat cheese enchiladas! Some of you out there may like goat cheese, not me! It was disgusting! Overall, I'd give this place a 1/2 star if it were possible! Yuk, yuk, yuk!!! Slim pickings for Mexican restaurants in Hopkinsville. Especially when one owner runs the other two. -Why Senor Lopez does it for me?- 1. Prompt service when you walk in the door. No waiting 5 minutes to be seated (when they're vacant) and another 15 to get your drink order in. 2. It may be on the small side, but it's nice on the interior. No nasty, sticky walls or booths with rips in the seams. 3. Chips are perfect, but I admit the salsa could use some work. Cheese dip made up for the salsa, however. 4. The usual large portions and my taco salad was not soggy. Thank goodness. 5. They give you time to relax and enjoy your meal..unlike others that want to push out the door when part of your plate is finished. Keep calm and let me order another margarita. Do you want a decent tip or not? 6. Cheaper than El bracero. Tastes better too. One minor gripe I have is, I wasn't sure what was with the black pepper in my beef. Goes elsewhere, we went through 2 servers just in getting our drinks ordered because the first server was overwhelmed that we all got margaritas. I stopped going to Elbra bc they are being stingy with the cheese sauce and their margaritas have very little tequila not to mention the waiters just throw your food on the table as they are walking by. I spent almost 7 years in Mexico. If you are looking for TexMex - i.e. very spicy - you will be disappointed. This is authentic Mexican food. I go very often. The food is good to excellent. The service has been very good every time I've gone. There are no "gringo" amenities - that is, sombreros, pictures of bullfights or piñata's. It is very much a typical Mexican restaurant and the prices reflect what you get: authentic Mexican food, properly cooked, good service, and reasonable prices. If you are looking for all the " ambience and Mexican stuff" as some Americans think of them, try a "fancier", more expensive restaurant. read more

Usually this is good food done well, but my last to go order was all screwed up. Beef Chimmys were actually chicken, shorted me an order of beef and cheese Nachos. My Husband and I are fairly new to Hoptown. This is the 2nd Mexican Restaurant that we have visited. We both really enjoy the many different dishes and totally enjoy chips and salsa. While the chips were okay (totally cold), the salsa was good. However, they bring you ,1, small bowl, half full. When we ask for more Salsa, the Waiter mumbled a rude response and walked off. When taking out order, he acted as through he could barely understand my husband and was rather rude. My husband finally picked up our small bowl and approached the hostess and a different waiter to ask again for more salsa. Again, they were very rude and put out. We did finally receive! Our plates arrived. The portion's was good. The food was good. We were never ask if things were alright, if we needed anything else.The check was laid on the table without a Thank You, Come Again, Don't Come Again. When paying our bill, neither the hostess nor the man at the register EVER uttered a single word! Simply completed the transaction as if he were mute and again attended rude school. We will not go back to this particular establishment again. There is absolutely NO Atmosphere, has little to no decor. The other Restaurant, though smaller, was extremely friendly, and you never ask for anything. They anticipated and made sure you wanted for nothing.
