My wife and I come to Senor Taco once a week without fail, so I have to give it 5 stars. It's a friendly neighborhood atmosphere, almost always busy with a widely varied crowd. I would place it towards the "real Mexican" side of the spectrum, because they offer lots of seafood and "variety" meats like lengua and cabeza, although all of your traditional Meximerican favorites can be found on the menu as well. Mexicano más autentico. If you like food from the Yucatan penninsula, this is probably as good as it gets in Knoxville. Objectively, it isn't extraordinary food, but some of the options are very uniquely Mexican. Beef tongue, nopales (cactus) salsa, horchata (rice milk), and jamaica (regional tea) are some examples. The service is never bad, but they're going through some renovations. Go here if you want a more authentic experience than the common Americanized Mexican restaurants. read more

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant ever! The staff is always attentive and the food is always amazing! I particularly love their salsa bar. Not only can I choose my favorite salsa (creamy green), but I can also pick up fresh onion, limes, and cilantro for my go-to shrimp taco salad. Even though they have all the regular proteins, they specialize in having seafood, so there's more of a selection than the normal Mexican restaurant. I highly recommend this spot! read more

The food is very good. My problem is the service. We ordered chicken wings as an appetizer. They came out with the food and not before. No extra napkins were offered and we had wing sauce all over us. We are bearded guys so we need extra napkins anyway. Had to go to the bar to get napkins. We got our water refilled once when food was brought out. Never saw the waiter again until it was time for the check. In the meantime we found a pitcher of water sitting out and got it left it on our table. When he brought the check he never even said thank you.. have a nice day... etc... All I can say is you need to put forth a LITTLE effort. I dont have to eat here or tip you well, which I normally do, if you dont. read more

I used to love this place, I really did. I love tacos and Margs as much as the next American millennial, but Señor Taco has disappointed me one too many times. The tacos are okay, the margaritas are a whole other story. The new bar looks great, but it has not improved the quality of the drinks. The last margarita I ordered ended up tasting like nothing but salt. It was literally so salty I was afraid I had ingested twice the daily recommendation of sodium in one sip. I sent it back and didn't bother ordering another one. Also the fresh salsa bar's concept is great but it can be really dirty. I try not to come here too much. Yuck. read more

Very good food and fun time. Our only complaint is the crying and screaming children that spoiled our mood for a little while. Not certain why establishments allow this to go on. I know children can be a handful but parents need to understand that most people dont go out to eat to listen to their children yell and scream. read more

Visited here for the first time on 4/4/2015. Outside there is not much to impress, but indoors is much nicer. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout our late lunch. I had paella which is the reason I came as it is the only place in Knoxville I can find that has it. It was plenty to eat, but certainly not what I expected. It was a much heavier version than I'm familiar with from my years in south Florida. This one was loaded with pork and chorizo in addition to the seafood. I love Senor Taco, It has to be my favorite Mexican food in Knoxville. The seafood options here are pretty amazing for a Mexican Restaurant. I usually get the fish tacos or ceviche, both so good. The main reason that makes this place my #1 is the self serve salsa bar, where you can mix and create any version of salsa you would like. The creamy green salsa ( made with eggs not dairy) is my favorite on the salsa bar. The margarita drinks are good and have your average options of beer here. Here's the thing about Senor Taco. You drive by and see the exterior, you'd probably never think of going in. The food, however, is fantastic. The salsa bar, as most others have said, is very good. I found the ceviche and fish tacos to be the real stars, though. The fish comes crispy and hot, and the tortillas are fresh and perfectly delicious. The ceviche is served on a tostada, and the acid and heat is very well-balanced on that crisp salty shell. I thought the mixed drinks were a little pricey, but I usually drink beer anyway. They have a good selection of beers, and that's fine. The tacos really are the main reason to go, however. read more

There's this certain type of despair foodies get when they order the worst meal of the table. Now, to be clear my shrimp, fajita burrito was super yummy. It was rice and shrimp cooked fajita style with onions and peppers wrapped in a tortilla. But, I would have been better off getting the actual shrimp fajitas my friend got. The best dish on the table was the chicken nachos. It sounds bland, but my bud had the sense to special request the kitchen fry him flour tortillas for the nachos instead of the corn ones. AMAZING! Huge portions and very good flavor. We had "tacos gringos" and "fajita chicken chimichanga" (see picture). Both included rice, beans and lettuce with sour cream. I've given this place three tries and have yet to order anything that would make me want to return. I ordered arroz con pollo the final visit and I was served a rubbery chicken patty that resembled hospital food. The final straw was a weird piece of something, that my mind could only describe as a chicken tongue mixed in with the rice and chicken. We were recommended to come here for the salsa bar- it did not disappoint! Two kinds of green salsa, plus four red, cactus, carrot, and some other stuff, also onions and cilantro. I had menudo and lengua con salsa verde. Both were excellent. The bowl of menudo is ginormous! I couldnt finish it all and had to bring it home. Hubs had four kinds of tacos- all delicious. Gross. I ordered carne asada, it was tough and chewy. My husband ordered a bean and cheese burrito and a chicken taco, he received a beef taco and beef burrito, with nasty clumped beef. The salsa bar is a joke, 1 1/2 ounce containers, that barely fit a chip, that you must constantly refill to enjoy the staple of Mexican restaurants. We ended up with a couple dozen containers. The cilantro was old, and the salsa containers on the bar were crusty. With so many authentic and delicious Mexican restaurants in town, skip this one. read more

When we saw the parking lot packed out - we knew we had to try it. Upscale Mexican décor... very clean ... nice Salsa Bar ... and an awesome menu! We're going to have to go back a few more times just to try it all. Our waitress was very friendly... she really took the time to help us decide what to order and constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything else. We decided to order one entre to split along with a few other things we wanted to try. We started off with the Shrimp Cocktail and it was very delicious. We had to take half of it home because it was so large. For our entre we tried the Brisket Taquito that came with rice, beans and salad with sour cream. We loved the Brisket and the refried beans which were cooked perfectly - a light color (not overcooked). On the side, we tried a couple of crispy Asada Tacos and were pleasantly surprised at all the steak they packed into them. This place reminded us of one of our favorite Mexican restaurants we always enjoyed eating at in California - with the Baja feel. We added it to our favorite's list and we'll be back! read more

I finally tried something new the other night (Pollo La Parilla) and it is my new favorite! Señor Taco is good every time I go. They have a salsa bar with different types of salsas, sauces and toppings, such as cilantro, pickled cactus (tasty), and so on. I came here on this day because they also have non-mexican type appetizers.. my husb wanted some fried chicken wings, and they were honestly some of the best I've ever had. They were big and came 10 for $8, which is totally reasonable compared to other places that specialize in wings, and how yummy they were! They were served on a big bed of delicious mexican rice. We shared the wings and also an order of chicken fajita nachos. The nachos were mainly chips and cheese with not much onion or peppers, which added $2 to the price versus plain chicken/cheese nachos. The food was good but they were a bit slow preparing it. When I go to other mexican restaurants I'm always surprised at how fast the food comes, but not here. Overall it was a good experience and we will go again. I did hear bad things about them afterward from family members, but I've personally never had a bad time. I will say their server station is right next to the front door in a small hallway and we had a bit of trouble getting in the door and also leaving. There was a group of servers gathered around it at all times and didn't seem to see us. I did have fun burning up my husb's mouth with the extremely HOT habañero salsa from the salsa bar. These special things are what they have over other regular mexican restaurants. We didn't get drinks but they advertise Happy Hour all day. The bar is very small and the seating area for it is awkwardly shaped.. probably not a good place for a group if you plan on sitting at the bar. read more
