Solids 2 stars. Their staff and service was great but I was disappointed by their food. It all sounds yummy but it's just not full of flavor. In fact, there was no seasoning on any components of my meal. I ordered the breakfast tacos and I could've made a tastier version of it at home. They over scrambled some eggs and plopped on black beans and some chopped spinach with cheddar cheese. That's it folks. It came with the tiniest side of what appeared to be homemade salsa but my salsa also had a side of hair in it. I get that their local and they're vegetarian friendly. They do have some great coffee but the food left a lot to be desired. I don't like paying for food that I can just make at home. Thing is, i wouldn't make it at home because it's so bland. Solid 3.5. Ordered the egg sandwich and the vegan I travel with got the vegan breakfast burrito and we split a vegan cinnamon roll. I am a meat guy so the eggs was a plus for me. The egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel under delivered a little. The bagel wasn't toasted on the inside which left the inside a little moister than I would have preferred and the egg just didn't have any seasoning on it, not even salt or pepper. The hot sauce on the side added some of the flavor the sandwich needed and was a nice touch, but it was a relatively cheap breakfast that worked for both of us. The cinnamon roll was actually pretty good. The outside was nice and crispy, but the inside was a little doughy. I would have wanted a little more icing as well. I stopped in for a coffee date with a co-worker. At first I had trouble finding the location because the sign is slightly small. However, the Sentient Bean is located at the beginning/end of Forsyth Park, next to Brighter Day. There is a small amount of parking across the street in Forsyth Park's parking area or street parking in front of Forsyth Park. Walking into the Sentient Bean the cash register/counter and pastry case is to the right and above the counter is a menu. Attached to the menu is actual cups, so that customers can visually see the different sizes. The menu is filled with coffees, teas, pastries, and plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pretty much a coffee shop that can become home. I I walked up to the counter after staring at the menu, with an interest in the Yerba Matte. I asked the cashier what was a Yerba Matte and he gave me a brief yet precise description. I ordered the smallest size of the drink with almond milk and went to pay. When I handed the gentleman my card he stated that there was minimum for card purchases, so I added a vegan banana bread slice. *Beverage: Yerba Matte The Yerba Matte is made similarly to how a chai tea is made. Its a tea mixed with milk, yet the flavor is more bitter with a cinnamon and clove smell. I decided to add brown sugar to my Yerba Matte, because I enjoy much sweeter drinks. After I finished mixing my drink we headed to the back patio. The back patio had even more personality then the inside of the store. The patio was a hodge-podge of found things. I saw a teal blue, figurine of a man's head placed in between a fence. The tables were small and welcoming to writers, thinkers, and the normal catch-ups. Overall this coffee shop deserves a B. The sentient bean is a nice calming coffee shop to slow down the pace of the outside world (time slipped by as we sat on the back patio), the banana bread was tasty, and the store gives a nice hipster/eclectic vibe. Pitfalls, bring cash or spend more than $5 to swipe your card and parking is some what of a hassle so come early to find parking. read more

This is my second time eating here and the atmosphere is very chill, has an indie vibe with everyone just minding their own business either doing work or having a family get together. It brings out different crowds which is always nice to see. The food both times have been a bit on the bland side, I feel like they could be SOOO good but the chefs scared to season a bit more. The Sentient Bean holds a good place in my heart. Back when my sister went to school in Savannah, The Bean was a place we'd always stop at. Coming back through this time it delights me to see that it still has the charm and appeal that I remember. Vegan / vegetarian options are available here. WiFi-accessible as well. We have tried several coffee shops since coming to Savannah. This one has been my favorite so far. My favorite thing about it is the breakfast options. All of their ingredients are fresh and from local farms which is a huge plus for me. I ordered a quiche with goat cheese and veggies- it was delicious! They also serve organic coffee. There is plenty of seating inside and on the back patio and we stayed for a while to read and work. Will definitely be back! read more

When in Savannah for 72 hrs I came here the first day and had an espresso shot and the bbq tofu wrap. The espresso shot tasted of the best imperial stout layered over the finest of smooth chocolate bars. Needless to say it was one of the best ever experienced. The tofu wrap was not only a flavor explosion it teased me with different textures and temperatures in every bite! Cold, crunchy, hot, smooth, tart, sweet, and acidic all balanced themselves in my mouth while I chewed to reveal my flavor secrets. In the time I had left I came back 3 more times, pastries, different forms of caffeinated beverages and more entrees all continued to exceed expectations. I stayed in a house within walking distance to Sentient Bean over the Thanksgiving holiday so I was able to stop in twice. Overall, this is a great little coffee shop. It was warm & inviting with lots of seating and friendly customer service. My first trip, I ordered a cappuccino and a breakfast burrito. The cappuccino was delicious, but the burrito was just ok. There was nothing wrong with it, I just felt like it could have used a little more seasoning. My second trip, I ordered a chamomile and lavender tea and a spinach and cheese scone. Both items were so delicious! I would certainly return to Sentient Bean if I were ever in the area again. read more

The Sentient Bean is a calm, cozy cafe coffee shop! It has couches for lounging, reclined chairs for comfort and tables for eating. The staff was so friendly, complimented me on my hair (even though I had just rolled out of bed) and continued Amal talk with me, it really made my morning. I ordered the spinach frittata and was given a vintage trophy as a placeholder while my breakfast was being made. The frittata came out quickly, and was layered with potatoes, cheese, egg and spinach. It was filling, and just the right size for the price! There is free wifi, and it seems like a lot of locals frequent the Sentient Bean. Customers greet one another, read their papers, sip their coffee while acoustic covers play through the shops speakers. This is located right across from Forsyth Park, where there is a parking lot for easy access. When I am back in Savannah I will give the Sentient Bean another visit! read more

Unimpressed. For the most part, everyone in Savannah is welcoming and nice. Not so here. The employees weren't even busy but were super rude to most customers. The poor guy in front of me asked a question about a menu item and the male employee got an attitude with him for no reason. For drinks I got the Dirty South, hubby ordered a special not on the menu - Strawberry Ginger Lime lemonade, it was very sour! My DS was good and probably better with another 1/2 shot or more. Not a very nice place! The staff didn't smile or answer questions nicely. I felt like an inconvenience. We ordered drip coffee, oatmeal for me and omelet for him. The food was ok but after being asked for a tip at the register plus a jar with a sign for tips, we still had to get our own silverware. The only thing they did was bring the food to the table. Great vegan options! Stopped by here when passing through Savannah and was very happy I did. I love that the breakfast is served all day long, something I think every restaurant should embrace! I ordered the Vegan Breakfast Burrito and the BBQ Wrap, they were both delicious. Both had distinct flavors and were prepared nicely. I probably liked the BBQ Wrap slightly more because the flavors were a little more bold. Would definitely order it again. The atmosphere was very chill, laid back environment, hippy vibe with some diy elements and artwork. They had a nice window bar you could sit at and overlook the park across the street. I heard good things about vegetarian/vegan food here but Was not good at all. It was edible without any flavor. I bought bbq tofu, there was no bbq and the tofu was not not even slightly done. I love Sentient Bean for a number of reasons. The vegan options are wonderful, all day breakfast, cozy atmosphere, proximity to Forsyth, and it's distance from the downtown tourist madness. We decided to come in here after roaming the local farmers market. Upon walking in we came to realize this is a very hipster spot. It was very crowded however take into account it was a Saturday at 9:45am so coffee time for all. There is a $5 minimum on card charges so after I ordered my drink I realized I had to order more than I actually wanted which is kind of annoying but I do understand. So in total I ordered a 16oz iced caramel macchiato and a bagel with cream cheese all for $5.04 Overall the coffee wasn't that great to me personally but I like sweet drinks so.. I think the appeal is the vegan vibes but I have no clue. Coming from Washington I have a pretty high to normal standard for coffee and I honestly wasn't impressed but I'd come back to try a hot drink for sure. Sorry I didn't take any photos! read more

Stumbled upon this cute cafe style vegetarian/vegan joint on yelp and was recommended to come here by a local. Definitely a great suggestion! Cool atmosphere with ample indoor and outdoor seating. You order up front and then sit down with a trophy table number and they'll bring it to you. Everything was priced reasonably and service was excellent. They have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I got the vegan super bowl and my boyfriend and his friend got the breakfast burrito (they have a vegan breakfast burrito too!). My bowl was delicious especially with the housemade cold brew coffee to wash it down.
