Walked in and was seated immediately near the gym that shares an entrance door. Plenty of tables inside and out. Ordered the shrimp mexi salad. To say it left something to be desired was an understatement. Menu promised abundant jumbo local shrimp however I was served 6 small shrimp. I wouldn't normally rate Kayak like this as I have always had good food there and was really looking forward to having lunch there again with my spouse. However, today was especially awful. We had a hard time parking our truck, and it was not horribly busy. The bartender saw us and told us to grab a table. We waited for 20 minutes with no menu, no water, no offer of any drinks. During that time, a couple of patrons also commented how bad the service was and I noticed very few waiters/waitresses on the floor. The bartender was also bussing too. We left. Horribly disappointed and let them know no one came to serve us. The busboy did apologize but to wait that long is going to eventually hurt your business, no matter what. This place is premised on being able to serve just about any diet. The "cafe" moniker implies something casual, but the service was a bit too casual for my liking. Neither I nor anyone else who entered seemed quite clear about whether to order at the register or wait to be seated (ultimately it was the latter), and tables sat uncleared for a while. It was hard to communicate due to the music volume, which did not help. Upon searching for a restroom, I found one which you had to walk through another business to get to and which had a code lock on it. Overall, not a great experience. The food, however, delivered on its promise. I considered several options, but had no qualms about the vegan taco bowl I ordered. While it came with dressing, I barely used any because the quinoa, the tortilla strips, and the walnut "meat" it came with delivered such balanced flavors. Conversely, the strawberry mint tea I ordered was quite mediocre; it was hastily prepared and I'd hoped the flavor might improve as I mixed it, but it really didn't deliver much. It was pricey as well. So I can affirm that vegan, gluten-free, and otherwise conscientious eaters should be checking this place out, but don't expect a world class experience. read more

Make sure you ask for Hunter. That guy rocks! Fun menu with a nice variety of healthy options. Shawarma was awesome. Get flour tortillas with the tacos. Chicken and goat cheese quesadilla could use a bit more basil and/or pesto. All food was great. Ask about wine and liquor availability - the printed menu is fluid. The food was great, so was the ambiance. However the service needs some improvement. We waited for a while to get our food and to pay our bill, to be fair they had only 1 waitress for the whole cafe. Due to this a lot of the tables were dirty and she was trying her best to clean and make sure everyone has the food they needed. We could potentially come back, but it may be best to just order to go instead of eating there. The food is made to order and is fresh. They have a good selection of menu items, including special dietary needs (GF, V, V+, NGMO). I had the Broughton Cobb Salad and it was very fresh and tasty. I felt uneasy since I walked in the door. Photos online are very misleading. The place is dirty. Walls need painting, floor needs sweeping. The MDF 'dining' tables are falling apart and are sticky to the touch . For a cafe they should be making the food faster, or at least hiring more kitchen employees. Our water was empty, and I asked for salt and pepper and it never came. The tofu I got was drenched in oil and I couldn't even eat it because it was so oily and hurt my stomach. My friend's turkey sandwich had barely any turkey on it. When she asked for more they took her sandwich away? And remade it only with the same amount as before.. which took an extra 20 minutes, but with an extra half of a sandwich? They were very nice and good customer service. But it didn't really solve the lack of turkey issue anything as she was basically just eating extra bread at that point. I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Kayak Kafe that left me questioning my life choices. This place, which I'll generously refer to as a "restaurant," was a serious letdown. Let's start with the ambiance - or lack thereof. The dim lighting did nothing to conceal the worn-out furniture and chipped paint on the walls. The overall atmosphere screamed "dingy" rather than "appetizing." I couldn't decide if I was in a taco joint or a haunted house. The tacos were less than OK, you can get these at home for less than $4, Soup of the day for $9 ? not a ball ( as advertised) but a cup, tested just terrible, worce than can soup. The chicken in the tacos was tough as mails. A salad with add on chicken (few pieces of last night cooked chicken) tough and tesless. for $27 ? are you kidding me? NO imagination at all! Asked the server for some extra lime, brought it on a piece of napkin, PLEASE USE A SMALL DISH!!!!! The server was more interested in going to the back to talk to the "ladies" that offering ANY type of advise of what to order. I understand that most restaurants in Savannah are turist traps, but this one takes the cake! To top it all off, the prices were absurd considering the quality of the food. I left the place with an empty wallet and a growling stomach, regretting every moment I spent in that sorry excuse for a taco establishment.
