This place has gone from amazing local food with a South African twist to complete commercialized garbage. Local Savannah foodie pages have been saying the same thing for years. Even after the 2021 rebrand, it still held on for a while, but something in the last 5 years at the main office has completely lost touch. They expanded to three locations: ; downtown, Tybee, and Hilton Head, and in the process the whole identity fell apart. The menu has been gutted of its originality. The "OG" items are now overpriced, portion sizes have been cut in half, and the original sides that made it special are gone. What used to be a simple, order-and-sit-down experience is now chaotic. You're herded in by an overstaffed but somehow still disorganized team of high-turnover employees with zero consistency and very little emotional intelligence. There are always way too many staff for the number of customers, yet service somehow keeps getting worse. Last night was the final straw. We tried the Tybee location first, waited 30 minutes just to be seated, only to be told they were basically out of everything and could only do drinks. So we drove to downtown. Same exact thing. Out of sausage. When we asked if we could just remove it or substitute it, we didn't get a simple no, we got an "absolutely not," because apparently everything is pre-mixed and nothing can be adjusted. Even worse once we sat down. It took 15 minutes just to be asked for drink orders. A different server came over, introduced himself like we were starting fresh, and then got visibly annoyed when we said we'd already ordered water and a soda. From there it just kept getting more awkward. At one point he bumped my cup while I was literally lifting it to my lips and told me to "watch out" while he was placing food down. He took forever to check us out and finally bring our soda to go, and ended the night by saying, "just so you know I'm faster than the other girl," like we were in the middle of some weird staff competition we didn't sign up for. On the outside it still looks like a fun Savannah staple. But once you sit down, you realize you're no longer a local guest, you're trapped in an overhyped tourist operation that's completely lost what made it good in the first place. read more

A very cute place, where you have the option to sit outside or inside. We sat inside so we could watch part of the Master's tournament. I ordered a Fire Island (Peri-Peri blackened mahi, cucumber salad, mango slaw, spicy mayo, french bread). Everything was very fresh and delicious. I had Zunzibar (also known as Zunzi's) recommended to me by several family members as a great place to grab a meal in Savannah, as it serves up one of the best chicken sandwiches in the world (probably according to some random "culinary expert" or magazine/poll). I figured I'd put the claims to the test for myself. The places is well decorated with both outdoor patio and indoor seating, with fun vacation vibes. We ordered the Fire Island (peri-peri blackened mahi) and Conquistador (chicken) sandwiches. Both sandwiches (4.5/5) were absolutely delicious and prepared using fresh and flavorful ingredients. I'm glad I asked for the sauces on the side for the chicken sandwich, as I only liked 1 of the 2 sauces. The Zapp's potato chips were your standard run of the mill potato chips, but were a decent accompaniment to the sandwiches. I'd certainly be a regular customer for their chicken sandwich if I lived closer. The funny thing is that I had an Uber driver raving about the same sandwich when I brought it up the following day. Service (5/5) was kind and friendly throughout the meal. We sat on the patio for a late lunch with our dog. It was a hot afternoon but we were able to sit near fans which helped cool us down after walking over. As soon as we sat down the hostess brought us water for the dog which was great. Our waiter was very helpful when we were making menu decisions. With such different wing flavors we both got wings. The periperi buffalo was better than any buffalo I've had and the Dank sauce was a good mustard based sauce. We loved the chips and their seasoning. We had a Pina colada and the tea cocktail both were refreshing. This is a fun casual restaurant that's great for the whole family with somewhat elevated flavors and options. However I'm sad to report my favorite sandwich, the Rising Sun, is no longer on the menu, but the Falafel Roll has been my new go to! They're currently remodeling part of their interior, so inside seating is limited but there's still plenty of outside seating with heat lamps! We used to love Zunzis! Unfortunately they must have changed ownership or something because the menu has totally changed. The sandwiches we used to love are now the same price (~$19), but half the size! They also got rid of their homemade potato chips which were delicious and replaced the with bags of chips. The slaap fries were incredibly underwhelming as well- essentially sprinkled shredded cheese, bacon & chives on shoe string fries and drizzled with a very thin, dill-heavy ranch (you know the kind). Staff are always friendly and attentive. They have mostly outdoor seating, and live music or DJs that play a lot of tropical house, which is not my taste, but to each their own. We live right around the corner, and sadly, the convenience no longer not outweighs the cost and quality. read more

Quick stop on the way out of Savannah was a hit! I got the appetizer called Lekker spread which you get to pick dips for the pita/chips/veggies. I got hummus, guacamole, and a chicken curry. Hummus and guac were good but the chicken curry yall. Spicy and hits you in all the right ways. It was perfect for a light lunch and was plenty for an extra snack on the drive home. Parking is a nightmare but that's Savannah in general. I loved the colorful island vibes of the restaurant. We were in Savannah for a small family vacation for a few days, and this was our first stop upon getting to town. We chose Zunzi's for lunch, given good reviews here. It is a unique eatery, with largely outdoor seating and a restroom that is accessible from the exterior of the building. We had two adults in two small children in our party. Overall, I think everyone just thought their food was OK. Of course my children enjoyed the prepackaged items (rice crispy treat and juice box) served with their meal, but neither finished the entrée. I ordered a cocktail which was tasty, but overfilled with ice so it was a short-lived experience. My buddy likes to come here because he DoorDashes and they give service workers 50% off and at that price it's a steal. He also just happened to have a token for a free sandwich so he got out the door with a free meal....I'm not sure he even tipped the waitress but hopefully he tipped her based on what it should have cost. We ate outside. I didn't go inside, I'm not even sure there is an inside...but outside was nice. Even the bathroom is outside around the corner. They had music playing but it wasn't too loud. We stopped here with friends while visiting Savannah. Our friends were hungry and wanted a substantial meal so ordered wings and a sandwich, which they enjoyed. My fiancé and I were not super hungry having had a big breakfast so we just shared a salad. It was our first day in Savannah and we were starving and hadn't eaten anything all day. I searched a place to get sandwiches and this looked interesting. The place had a really cool vibe. I ordered the Godfather which had chicken, boereswore sausage , and regular sausage. It was pretty good but it was a lot and I don't know if all the meats really went well together I think it was too much. It had some kind of tomato sauce on it which I didn't know, I thought it was just going to be regular tomato. I think I liked my husband's conquistador sandwich better because it went better together and wasn't overwhelming. The sauces that came with it were good. The chips were tasty too and had a little bit of a kick and you also get free chip refills . I had a sweet tea. We were in town for a baseball tournament, came with a decent crowd. Stayed outside tucked away and the boys stayed with us they weren't running around and didn't leave our area. The waitress started off super friendly and then got visibly more aggravated every time she came back. The bar manager came over and right out of the gate she was already level 10 had enough. We were super nice and friendly, kept saying it's ok we will wait when they forgot orders. We repeatedly apologized for the large crowd and kept telling them they were doing a great job. It further escalated after the very nice gentleman came over to start splitting the checks, he was quickly shut down and we were told they couldn't split checks and could only divide it 4 ways. They had enough and told us a total lie. They did NOT add gratuity however they were tipped very well. One of our families generously agreed to just pay the entire tab so we could just leave because we were all made to feel so uncomfortable! Come to find out more than $100 was later added to their card that was NOT on the original receipt! Steer clear of this establishment if you have a large party or children! They will audibly and visibly show their disgust and be complete jerks! Kudos to the gentleman but shame on the waitress and the bar manager for how they treated us and showed these children how NOT to treat people in the customer service industry! Side note the very next day there were 4 fraudulent charges at Walmart.com on this very credit card that was only used once at this establishment, shame on you. I was coming to Zunzi for three years at this point... but I haven't been here since September till the past Sunday. I was not pleasantly surprised by the menu change and by the portion change. For 20$ previously, you could have an enormous sandwich in a soft bun, with plenty of house chips and free dipping sauces. Now you get a sad half-baguette, which is also hard to chew, and random chip bag with no sauces on the side. My mate ordered a Conquistador, which for some reason looked and tasted like Caesar wrap.
