After going through the months long process to apply for a CA CCW through Orange County, I started my search to find the right approved training program and certification course to satisfy the Orange County requirement. My good friend was going through his process at LA County, so we looked for a trainer that was certified by both OC and LA and we found Paul at Sentri. I could not have been happier with Paul's course and most importantly, his knowledge and training. What I like most about Paul is him humbleness and very practical approach to the CCW material and qualification. First, the CCW material can be pretty boring stuff. But that wasn't the case when Paul was teaching it. He intertwined the course material with relevant interesting examples and real world videos from online. Even though Paul constantly reminds you, "that no one is an expert, even himself", he clearly knows his stuff. After the online portion of that class material, we met Paul at FT3, an area shooting range for the in-classroom portion of the training. Here Paul worked with us on proper concealment, holster draw and all of the requirements and dangers of getting your CCW. Probably the best part of the training was the shooting qualification needed for your CCW. I've taken other training from a few different trainers but Paul stands out. He quickly diagnosed a few sloppy areas of my stance and a hidden "flinch" that I was unaware of which made my groupings so much tighter. I have been working to cure my "low left" with grip, dry fire, trigger pull but had no idea of my recoil anticipation until Paul ingeniously showed me first hand by doing a sneaky "ball and dummy" practice. I of course passed the shooting qualification easily but I left Paul's training a better shooter as well as a more knowledgeable and safer gun owner What more could you ask for? My CCW officially went through a few weeks ago and Paul had a small part in that process. **One really important note, we found out that Paul was recently approved to teach the AZ and UT non-resident CCW course, so we both took the AZ portion at the same time as our CA class. So I applied for the AZ non-resident CCW and Paul was able to do our fingerprinting on-site. You will not regret taking his CCW course and I imagine other training courses. I definitely intend to take more training through Paul. read more

I chose Sentri Institute over oc firearms due to a better price and location. I took both the basic firearm course and the ccw permit course with Paul. Best decision I've made! I had no prior experience with firearms and Paul was patient and understanding. Schedules had to be flexible for various reasons, and he was able to accommodate. Even when my firearm malfunctioned and actually broke (the sights snapped off mid-class!) And we were able to reschedule after it was repaired. I was extremely pleased that I decided to take my first Basic Firearms Course with Sentri Institute/ Paul. I had not shot a firearm in years and had completely forgotten everything I learned. The first part of the course consisted of class instruction on topics such as firearm safety and laws. It was not boring in my opinion; it's useful and important information and I liked how the class had an interactive approach. The second part is the fun part where you actually shoot the firearm and get to practice. I was quite nervous but Paul was really supportive and shared techniques on how to relax during shooting.
