When we got home, she discovered the color did not match the color on the panel shelf. Today, she went to return it at the Berkeley store. Unfortunately, the receipt was missing the barcode as it had gotten cut off. Sephora refused to return or exchange it despite her having the receipt in hand from 5 days ago with the date, store location, authorization number, reference number, you name it. We also showed evidence of the transaction on her mobile banking app. They recognized it was a legitimate receipt but said they could do nothing to resolve the situation. What a scam! I've filed a complaint with customer service and will be doing the same with the Better Business Bureau. Check your products and check your receipts. This business cannot be trusted. read more

I won't go into details on every single time this place has let me down but it's all pretty similar to everyone else's sentiments. 80% of the staff doesn't want to be there and what they learned from YouTube university they'll try to disarm you with. Pretty interesting considering most of the makeup I've been matched with here I've had to return or exchange because it's wrong. They talk at you and will completely stop a transaction to acknowledge a potential shoplifter before continuing. I miss the days 4-5yrs ago when the people working at Sephora had a passion for makeup. Staff they hire now are not presentable, most don't wear any makeup, hair isn't done, worst attitude. Yikes. For the next....I'd say year or so, I'll be buying my $70 Hourglass foundation at Nordstrom, I'll buy my $30 Ilia concealer direct online, my $40 MUFE primer from their direct website , my $34 glowrecipe pinkjuice moisturizer and my $40 glow recipe watermelon toner from their website. Lets see, that's $210 every couple months that I used to spend at Sephora, not including impulse buys. Now I'll spend that with retailers other than Sephora and ULTA will be my go to if I want to pick up a palate or a lipcolor, or I'll just go online and buy it. It's impossible to get someone on the floor to assist you, and when I finally found some who looked available, he immediately dismissed me. Granted he told me that he was on break, but it's understandable I would approach him bc he was standing in uniform next to the front door. How was I suppose to intuit he was off duty?? I apologized for bothering him (women always offering unnecessary apologies) but this man was so rude about it. Unlike a department store where salespeople represent just one brand, Sephora carries many quality brands, including some toxin free ones. I was clueless about how to begin, but expected knowledgeable sales people to help. Some dude sold me stuff that was made for women my age in years. OK. I have recently taken a huge interest into perfume. As a newbie to the perfume market I love that Sephora offers a wide selection. They have sweet, natural, and musky scents. I recently purchased her by Burberry, Chanel 5, and Tom Ford Black Orchid. I love that they keep their perfumes stocked. I feel the Concord location is always out of stock. I've been here a few times now and each time the beauty professionals have been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.I'm a quiet shopper and I don't like big crowds this location is usually not as busy during the week. Although, parking around here is terrible. The parking lots are always full and street parking is a hassle. I expect it because its near a lot of other shops. Overall, I have nothing but positive things to say. I also really love their online pickup option. When I went to the pickup desk the girls scanned my barcode and while she was getting the item out of the closet I asked her why the Dior mascara doesn't last very long. No response. I looked around the store and asked the cashier about an exfoliant, I had to ask her 3 times due to her ignoring me. I speak loud normally. When she did respond she was obviously not happy about helping me. Normally when you go to Sephora the employees have very tasteful makeup. But the cashiers make up was gaudy and WAY OVER THE TOP. So the sales clerk stands about 4 feet from me, playing with lipstick on her hand. Completely ignoring me. As someone who has been a Rouge for nearly a decade, I know Sephora like the back of my hand. (I often even make an effort to visit a Sephora when I'm on vacay #BeautyAddict). Having relocated back to the Bay Area after being away for many years I made an effort to acquaint myself with the Sephora's in my area. After having multiple less than memorable experiences at the Bay Street store in Emeryville, I ended up at the 4th Street location in Berkeley. And am I ever glad I did! The store is so bright and cheery and I think it's vibe rubs off on the employees! I was warmly greeted upon entering the store and sincerely offered assistance by like three beauty advisors. And checkout was a breeze! On top of the service being better than Bay Street, 4th Street also has a free parking lot! So basically, win-w Only negative thing I can say is that Sephora has enacted a new 30 day return policy and while I was there a customer and an beauty advisor were going back and forth for way too long. read more

My friend asked if she could order an item online and cashier's response was 'thats Only for members' ... she didn't offer to sign her up or provide information on what that meant...she was snappy and presented it as if it were exclusive. Overall staff wasn't very helpful... they made us feel unwelcome... Went there a couple of weeks ago. Yes the location and the store itself is nice and clean. I walked in, there were two employees standing at the door chatting. No one greeted me like at other stores.. yea that's cool ok kept walking. Given that its Berkeley, yea I can probably understand why I wasn't greeted. White women came and left and all of them were greeted. Not a single employee came up to me to ask if I needed any help, wait but the lady next to me was asked if she needed any help.. wonder why. I am a brown skinned Latina and I was dressed casually. The lady who works there with the pink hair kept going around my area while I was there trying to look for the right shade of my foundation but as she walked around she never asked me if I needed any help. I have been behind this year. Mom is ill and in the hospital. My support staff hinted that Christmas was next week! Yikes! Really??? So, I was SO THRILLED that Sephora was now in Berkeley. I did not have to fight I-80 and the Bay Street parking disaster. I parked late evening and was helped immediately. I had two support people who are Latina and medium-complected. I have two support people who are Caucasian and fair. I have one support person who is Pilipina....what am I going to do? The representative took me around and put swatches of lip color on her arm and said, "Are they darker than me?" I could judge the shade sooo much better than on-line. She was very helpful and I bought lip color, sunscreen for sensitive skin, skin care, etc. I think that if she had not spent so much time with me, I would have chosen a few shades of lip colors by my favorite brands, NARs, bITE, YSL and grabbed a Sheisido sunscreen and gone. This used to be my favorite Sephora...and I spend a lot of money at this store. Today when I went was no different and I ended up with a lot of items...some even large gift sets. (My point is not to brag you'll see why it matters) The girl at the register was not friendly at all I would say that she was borderline rude but the issue was that she stuffed all of my items into one bag...when I turned to walk away after I had paid I could tell that my bag felt like it was going to break so I asked her if I could please have another bag to double bag it because it felt like it's going to break..her response was umm it's actually gonna be ten cents. I started to pull the 10 cents out of my bag but when I thought about it that seemed kind of ridiculous considering I had just spent $700 here and she was the one that decided to put WAY too many items in one bag...I mean she literally stuffed it to the point the items were coming out of the top of the bag. so I said to her I have a lot of things this is too much for one bag and her reply was it's going to be 10 cents and then she just stared at me. It was like the movies in the 90s where the bitchy girls worked at the mall. Something about that really rubbed me the wrong way...it didn't have anything to do with the ten cents it was more so the fact that I had just spent $700...had a lot of items and it was TOO MUCH for one bag. It was almost as if she was personally paying for the bags or whoever gave out the fewest bags would get a promotion. She would not give me another bag. I just shook my head and walked away. It might be kind of petty of me but it bothered me all the way home and it bothered me so much that after coming here for years I think probably since they opened I will never come back to that Sephora again. Her attitude was horrible for one and two I think it's completely ridiculous that she wouldn't give me one more bag considering the amount of items that I had and anyone with a drop of common sense knows a bag can only handle so much weight you should only put so many things in one bag if the items in the bag are overflowing the top of the bag you should probably put the items in two bags so me asking for another bag wasn't just me asking for another bag like I was going to use it as a collectors item I specifically told her there were too many items in the bag and it felt like it was going to break. I accidentally went to this Sephora today thinking my appointment was today. I called (as I was driving there because I was a bit behind) and found that out. I told the young lady that answered the phone - I'll come in anyway ( thinking, surely someone can assist me while I'm there, albeit not a personal shopping experience but assistance ) if I find what I need I'll just cancel the appointment for tomorrow. I arrived shortly after. As I entered there was no greeting, except for the sweet (special needs) young lady who yelled from across the store "hello!" while cleaning something up. I started perusing the store - pretty clueless because I don't wear makeup like ever. I wanted a foundation to cover the skin issue that began after wearing a pandemic mask. The whole reason I made a personal shopper appointment in the first place. To no avail I perused for over 30 minutes and not one person asked if I needed any help. I eventually found a high-end brand foundation and was pretty pleased. But after realizing that about 4 other women in my immediate vicinity were asked if they needed help and not me I got pretty upset. I returned the foundation to the shelf and immediately found a manager to cancel my personal shopping appointment for the next day because clearly I need an appointment to get any assistance at all. I informed her of the reason I was canceling as well, she apologized but sadly did not realize she did not acknowledge me either a few moments before as she was knelt down inches from my foot changing the trash can bag whilst whispering into her headset. I was ready and willing to spend my hard earned money on many products and considered booking a service or two.
