I had the best experience with Carol and Joseph. I was looking for Charlotte Tilbury Foundation, which wasn't available, and Carol took her time with me to find an alternative. We looked at several foundations, tried them on, looked at it in different lighting, wiped them off until the best match was found. We settled on Make Up Forever. I've worn my new foundation a few times and I love how it looks and feels on my skin. I've also received many compliments! Joseph also played a big part in my experience. I walked in and immediately had to walk out again -- there is an overwhelming amount of putrid perfume that immediately makes you dizzy and all the samples look opened and dirty. It's not a calm high end environment and the staff don't seem to notice. Went in 2 times last month with my girlfriend. The first time staff was friendly, came up to us and asked if we needed help with anything. We ended up finding what we came for thanks to the employee that helped. Once it was time for check out we signed up for their birthday reward but they didn't have the birthday reward in stock we wanted so we were told to return at any time to pick it up even if it isn't the month or day of birthday. The second time we went in was to check for the birthday gift, we found it hard to find anyone to help us as we were looking around. So we just got in line and once it was our turn we told the cashier we're here to pick up the birthday gift. Then the lady told us that it isn't even the birthday month yet and said "who's birthday is it" "it's not even august for you to pick up" with an attitude. Not sure if the cashier was making comments about us on the earpiece but as we were walking out another employee on the floor said that we can pick it at any time but won't be able to redeem the gift on the birthday month, which we already knew! Not sure if the cashier is new or doesn't know how her job is able to do things but maybe get someone better who knows what they are doing next time! I visited the Berkeley store for Black Friday sales on 11-26-22 at 5:30 pm, at the 4 th street location to buy some cosmetics for a friend. After making our selection, with the assistance of Zoe, who was quite competent, I were informed about the option of opening a credit account for payment. I was quite capable of paying the 81.00 for the cosmetics, but the 25 percent discount was appealing as a first time customer. Unfortunately, I was declined credit through community capital bank in Columbus , Ohio for reasons unknown, except for perhaps profiling. My Fico score of 850 is quite high and has been exceptional for many years. !! I possess many credit cards with "0 " balances , and upon contacting Equifax the next morning, to determine why I was declined , I was informed that all my accounts showed payed in full, or in good standing. And that there was no logical explanation for the decline of credit by community capital bank in Ohio. I possess many major credit cards, that allow me to buy whatever I want on any given moment. In sum, Iam indeed a long time credit worthy individual who, has never been declined credit. So, naturally, I am very concerned about the rationale for my decline to purchase goods at Sephora, on credit. It appears to me that perhaps there is another agenda for determining credit worthiness, could It be that profiling is a possibility at this Sephora cosmetics store. read more

When we got home, she discovered the color did not match the color on the panel shelf. Today, she went to return it at the Berkeley store. Unfortunately, the receipt was missing the barcode as it had gotten cut off. Sephora refused to return or exchange it despite her having the receipt in hand from 5 days ago with the date, store location, authorization number, reference number, you name it. We also showed evidence of the transaction on her mobile banking app. They recognized it was a legitimate receipt but said they could do nothing to resolve the situation. What a scam! I've filed a complaint with customer service and will be doing the same with the Better Business Bureau. Check your products and check your receipts. This business cannot be trusted. read more

It's impossible to get someone on the floor to assist you, and when I finally found some who looked available, he immediately dismissed me. Having relocated back to the Bay Area after being away for many years I made an effort to acquaint myself with the Sephora's in my area. After having multiple less than memorable experiences at the Bay Street store in Emeryville, I ended up at the 4th Street location in Berkeley. And am I ever glad I did! The store is so bright and cheery and I think it's vibe rubs off on the employees! I was warmly greeted upon entering the store and sincerely offered assistance by like three beauty advisors. And checkout was a breeze! On top of the service being better than Bay Street, 4th Street also has a free parking lot! I have been behind this year. Mom is ill and in the hospital. My support staff hinted that Christmas was next week! Yikes! Really??? So, I was SO THRILLED that Sephora was now in Berkeley. I did not have to fight I-80 and the Bay Street parking disaster. I parked late evening and was helped immediately. I had two support people who are Latina and medium-complected. I have two support people who are Caucasian and fair. I have one support person who is Pilipina....what am I going to do? The representative took me around and put swatches of lip color on her arm and said, "Are they darker than me?" I could judge the shade sooo much better than on-line. She was very helpful and I bought lip color, sunscreen for sensitive skin, skin care, etc. I think that if she had not spent so much time with me, I would have chosen a few shades of lip colors by my favorite brands, NARs, bITE, YSL and grabbed a Sheisido sunscreen and gone.
