OSHA is the best choice for makeup consultations! She made me feel empowered and taught me so much about how to look great for an outdoor wedding. She works with all skins tones and is really open to feedback. She also made sure we didn't spend any money on anything we didn't need. I really enjoy this particular store. I was really paid attention to and when i wanted to look on my own, that was ok with the staff also. I received a birthday gift and the girls all wished me a happy birthday! One of them asked me how everything was for me today and I just appreciate that someone cares enough to ask me that. I looked this store on yelp before I went, and 4.5 stars on average is pretty great. After years of wearing MAC cosmetics, my skin began to revolt. I stopped by Sephora because they have everything under one roof. One of the sales associates recommended Jozzy. This fabulous makeup artist introduced me to Makeup Forever. She understood my needs- great coverage but oil-free. She matched my skin beautifully. Jozzy is knowledgeable and friendly. Sitting outside writing this review because they sure earned it! First and LAST time I will go here, or maybe even Sephora as a whole for that matter. I was in the store looking at lipsticks and not one person asked if I needed help. Fine. I don't need my hand held, but don't stare at me as if I'm going to steal something. I walked over to fragrance and was helped immediately. I got a coco Chanel perfume and the girl that was helping me was great. I should have gotten her name so I can commend her. I get to the counter to pay for the over $100 of products I got, and that was a hot mess. The tall young girl who had dyed blonde hair, and no name tag, must be new because she was kind of confused and not confident in helping me. She didn't ask for my Beauty Insider card, she didn't put tissue in my bag, little things that really don't matter, but makes you look bad representing a company. My problem is with Liz, the Liz with short blonde hair. My coco Chanel perfume rang up as $77 and the display price said $68. The young lady who helped me went and confirmed that the sign said $68. She asked Liz for help and Liz was only more than annoyed to help her. She fixed the price looked up at me and said snarling "I changed it to $68 but going forward it is $77 just so you know." Excuse me? You do NOT blame that on the customer. I absolutely did not make the mistake of displaying the wrong price, seeing as I don't work there, so I'm not sure why you're scolding me. I thought she was looking up to tell me "sorry about that," so I automatically responded kindly to her. After she ran away, I realized what she said and thought it would be too late/stupid to confront her. I was so appalled at her response. How can you even THINK about saying that to a customer? I didn't even make a big deal, I just said the price was different on the display. This is the second time I've caught Sephora displaying cheaper prices than what they are charging the customers. SO I'll just complain about it on here and also to corporate. I'm in customer service too, AT a corporate place, and you don't blame the customer for a fault that is of the company's. I spent too much of my money on products to be talked to like that. I should have asked for a manager and made a scene. Apparently the culture at Sephora teaches your cast members that it's perfectly ok to ignore paying customers who are trying to get assistance. On Sunday afternoon, 4/15/12 about 5pm I walked into the Emeryville, CA Sephora store to look at Illamasqua nail polish as well as your Hello Kitty line. I easily walked 2 full circuits around your store, taking about 10 minutes looking for the Hello Kitty items and was not approached or acknowledged. The store had more than adequate coverage employee wise so it's not as if they were all busy. I've worked in retail for many years, most recently at Apple & expect a certain level of service from places I shop & eat at. Sephora could've had the $60 I spent at the Body Shop instead, where they not only greeted me, they were super friendly & made me feel welcome & paid attention to me & my sister. I SHOULD AT LEAST be greeted when I enter a store with easily a dozen "cast members" were walking around paying attention to people who they thought were prettier, richer or whatever other obscure criteria your company uses to determine who receives your customer service. read more

Sephora Bay street Location is incredibly rude. This morning I walked in to get matched for a contour product. I sat at the beauty counter and their pro beauty consultant walked up and asked me what did I need. I replied, "a liquid product to contour my face, either a concealer or a foundation stick" she literally grabs two products, tried them on my face and says that neither will work. And simply says, "we don't have any colors to contour for your face." Really? In this entire store, Sephora doesn't have any products to contour an African American's darker skin tone? I find that incredibly hard to believe considering when I got up I found at least five. I am highly disappointed. She could have simply went 1-2 shades darker than my foundation. But because she isn't "trained" for my skin tone she isn't aware. Highly disappointed. Starting to regret my rouge status ... And why I even bother spending money at a store that can not even train their employees to work with all skin tones ... read more

At most Sephora stores it is difficult to find an associate who has expertise, kindness, and humility. However, right from the start Daniela was extremely helpful with color matching to the Fenty foundation, providing tips, and answering many questions. About a week ago I walked into this location with the intention of returning a foundation that I purchased for my mom and buying a replacement that was the correct shade. After chatting with Maddie she told me that she wouldn't be able to help us figure out which shade match we needed and she'd get someone else to assist us. Honestly I was fine with it because she was clearly annoyed with helping and didn't seem the least bit interested. -- Enter Carol Ann. She helped us figure out the correct shade, did a shade match and everything. Not only did she do her job she was extremely pleasant to work with. At this point I walked back to the Make Up Forever display and found the last bottle of the shade we needed only to find out the bottle had been used and was about 85% empty. I looked at the pump on the bottle and could see that it had been used. Maddie told me it hadn't been used and was completely okay with letting me purchase a used, unsanitary bottle of foundation! Gross! Gross! Gross! Even the box the foundation came in showed some wear and tear. ( so yeah, she couldn't help us but was still standing near the display... *side eye*) let's cut back to the used bottle of foundation. I took it over to Carol Ann who agreed with me and called over to the Fourth Street location and put their last bottle on hold for me. ( Thanks girl! ) --- the one star is for the unprofessional behavior I received. The only thing I acccomplished there was the intitial return. If Carol Ann hadn't been there I would have walked out fuming. I get that the employees can't control if customers come in and sample products but don't ever fight with me about it and expect that I'd use an unsanitary product. I won't. I refuse. The nerve of this girl!! I suggest that EVERYONE check their products prior to leaving because buying opened products isn't safe for anyone. read more

Jocelyn is the best! I had an appointment with her to get dolled up prior to a friend's birthday. Now let me put this in perspective - I have recently finished 9 months of chemotherapy and 2 months of radiation to my face, which took it's toll on my skin. The radiation also caused some discoloration, I have some swelling, and the eyelashes on my right eye are more sparse than the left.. That eye also is sensitive and waters a bit at times, which can be a pain when you are trying to apply eyelashes and makeup. Another fun effect of my meds is that I'm a sweaty beast. I was madly embarrassed by the sweat marks on the chair, but she said, "I'm a woman, I know all about sweat honey. Don't think anything of it." None of this phased Ms. Jocelyn, who didn't even ask me a million questions about cancer, she just jumped in and chatted with me like I was any other customer. She helped me apply the concealer myself so that I would know how to do it and she didn't even flinch on her 4th time having to adjust and reglue the eyelash that my watery eye loosened. And the best part? I came out GORGEOUS!!! Before I even made it out of the store, three people told me how good it looked. I actually got a whistle on my way to the car, and I ran into an old friend who actually teared up when he saw me because he said I looked so beautiful, glowing and healthy. So Jocelyn works miracles! One of the best experiences I've ever had. read more

The staff is too busy talking amongst each other about weekend plans and boyfriend to notice that a customer needs assistance. I LOVE SEPHORA but this location def. SUCKS. This is my Toys R Us. I swear I could stay in this store for hours and not get bored. I'm the collector of new makeup. I love the kool packaging and bright colored characters all these make up lines bring. Benefit, Smashbox, Dior. So much fun and I have access to them all. I first start out by looking at the mascara. Opening each one to check out there magic wand and consistency. Then I head over to the perfume, as I look for the coffee bean jar I scam over all the bottles quickly looking for the bottles that I have yet to smell. This time it was Mariah Careys new smell which I HATED. Her bottle design reminds me of the McQueen scent I love but her smell could not compare. Sephora used to carry McQueen but suddenly stopped and I thought maybe it was because Mariah came out with this scent and the bottles looked very similar and hey maybe the smell would too. Nope. I guess I can only get it on Ebay from now on. I appreciate the fact that they carry so much and even with the combo of makeup/perfume there is no over powering smell throughout the store. For the past several months, I've been going to Ulta in Pinole since the place is so close to my house but feel the customer service there is lacking. It's difficult to find someone to help you at that Ulta location. This past weekend (11/14) went to visit Sephora and feel the customer service in Sephora is so much better. Came in to buy their Sephora brand lipstick in the deep brown - mauve color. It was around 6:00 in the evening and the store was packed however I had no problem finding someone to help me because there was staff everywhere. When it was time to purchase my stuff, I was probably standing in line for a minute and one of the staff asked if I was paying cash or credit and told her credit so she took me to the side and did our transaction right there! She even helped me find a lipliner I couldn't find on display. I got to say, the Sephora squad got their stuff together. My past experiences here has always been nothing but positive. read more

I would have chosen -minus 5 if I had that option. Okay, this is about Sephora's policy of charging twice for the same online order. I ordered for the first time on July 5, 2016. It is now September 22 and both charges are still there. When I called Sephora's customer service number, they gave me some oddball excuse for why they did this and not to worry 'it will come off your account in a couple of days'. They also said I should call and ask my bank to fix it! I have finally called my bank and the woman there couldn't believe it. They have to do a whole research process and contact Sephora again.... In case you might think this is something goofy that I did, check it out on Google. There are over 100,000 complaints about Sephora double charging credit/debit cards. I will never buy anything from them again and warn you not to either. read more

Horrific "service." I went to sephora because I wanted a professional recommendation on concealer. It took 20 minutes to find an employee who didn't look away or walk the other way when I tried to approach. When I finally asked a store associate for a recommendation, she couldn't answer my questions and looked super annoyed that I asked her. So I asked another person, same thing. If these people don't want to he helpful, maybe they shouldn't work at sephora. I ended up just googling it in the store and buying the one with the best online review. This review is for Alyssa, who helped me find my shade match for a few foundations. I don't EVER wear foundation--only tinted moisturizers and BB creams. Alyssa hooked me up. I was wandering, prob. looking a little lost. Alyssa made eye contact with me and asked me if I needed help right away. When I told her I needed a foundation, she started by asking me all the detailed questions: how much coverage I want, my skin type, etc. Then she used their shade matching technology (I forgot what it's called) and wrote down a few suggestions for me in different brands. I tried them out on my jawline and neck but had no idea what matched/didn't match (again, I don't ever wear foundation!). I tracked her down and asked for her advice. She had me try on a few different shades in one brand (MUFE), had me look at a mirror in the store, stepped outside of the store (for the natural light), and gave me her opinion. I asked for a sample, and she also threw in a sample of MUFE mattifying primer since I told her I have oily skin. She was efficient since there were a lot of customers on a busy Sunday morning, but she answered all of my questions and made sure I left with a sample of the right shade. I highly recommend coming to this store (esp. if you have a lot of questions and need help) and seeking out helpful and knowledgable store reps like Alyssa. read more

So irritated!! I looked on the app for a particular product to see what stores had it in stock. This location listed they did so I drove over 40 miles to get to this store for this item I need for a gift. I pay to park and go inside to find a normal amount of people buzzing about. The lady at the front was too busy on her iPad and barking orders into her headset to acknowledge me and the other four people that walked in. You're busy, I get it... No big deal. I searched high and low for the item, on end caps and buy the counter, everywhere! After five minutes of looking I start to try and find an employee that can send me in the right direction. I don't see anyone else so I go back to the girl at the front who looks at me but doesn't even say hello or anything. I say "hi I'm looking for one thing..." and just as I start to ask another employee walked up and the two of them start having a full on conversation! I look at the main lady completely shocked and then she says "what do you need??" As if I'm interrupting something. I tell her what I need and she quickly shut me down and says we don't have it. I ended up buying something else, because let's be honest... It's Sephora! The cashier then asked if I found everything I was looking for, I told her what I was looking for and that one of the employees claimed they didn't have it. She just says "oh, your total is...." I get back to my car look at the app and sure enough it still says fully in stock. I called the store back to check out of curiosity and what do you know!! IN STOCK. read more

Absolutely horrible experience in this store. The customer service inside and on the phone is atrocious. I asked for my dupbrow which they happened to be out of in my shade to be delivered to my job. I told them they had to deliver between 830am and 5pm as the office doesn't stay open past 5. The customer service rep said that would be fine. She took my payment and gave me my receipt. First fuck up was that they said it would be delivered Tuesday October 7th. It didn't even leave out for delivery until October 9th.. Then ontrac lazy asses kept delivering after 5pm..to a business!! After I clearly stated for them not to. I called ontrac who says sephora should have told us to deliver between these times and we would have. I called sephora today and they say they can't do that..even though that's what I asked for in the first place! I told the ghetto ass customer service rep either I want my package delivered between 830 and 5 today or I want my money back. She proceeds to process a refund but neglects to tell me it takes between 1 and 7 business days. Smh..sephora's makeup is great but their customer service is sorely lacking and will NEVER ORDER ANYTHING INLINE FROM THEM . they only care about your money not you getting your stuff you PAID FOR. read more

I give this Sephora five stars because of the lovely lady in skincare named Felia (she's amazing) but I think the Sephora in San Francisco is bigger and feels less overwhelming with a large weekend crowd. But go and visit Felia, she is insanely knowledgable and answered my millions of questions. The customer service overall at the store is also amazing, despite being crazy busy all the time, especially on a weekend. Sephora has many many brands of cosmetics, skin care, hair care, perfumes and brushes. This place has very high volume of customers during times when working people are off: after work and weekends, holidays. If you like a lot of help and assistance, then go right when they open or when everyone else is at work. They do have a lot of employees working the floor with communication devices in their ears with microphones. It's that high volume. However the place is often packed and getting help to get what you want is a wait. Welcome to the Bay Area: crowds everywhere. A nice service they offer is to do a make over (put make up on your entire face) as a way to learn how to do your make up for evenings out, or for everyday. You have to have a minimum purchase of, I Think, $50 of products for this service. This way you can see the product on your face before you buy it. Due to high volume of shoppers, you would be smart to make this appointment in advance if you are going to an event. The probability of an opening by just walking in is extremely low. All the employees that apply the make up have different styles and experience. There is very high employee turnover. I'm guessing that can be because the constant high volume of demanding shoppers, all the many many products they have to be knowledgeable about, and perhaps hours: they are open until late when people need to have dinner with their families, etc. I found a similar store named Blue Mercury in the Corte Madera mall. They don't have as many different product lines as Sephora, but it is way less crowded and way better customer service. They even have a spa in the back. They do the makeovers as well. Yeah as some of the reviewers already mentioned. At this location, the SA tend to ask so many times if you need help. It's annoying. One of the cashier, she's like middle age, sounds like Eastern European accent or Middle East, I don't know...she's so slow and asked me too many q's, why this why you returned it...She's nice, but too many q;s to ask and super slow at doing the transaction. She shouldn't be at the register. The choices are pretty good, they even carry YSL here. Just too annoying...... so weird. I don't know who trained them at this location. I don't get this in SF downtown, Union St, or even Palo Alto. read more

Came here with my mom on a Sunday to check out the new Fenty beauty line by Rihanna which is only sold at sephora, and Because we are African American women it is very hard to match our complexion. We saw reviews about Fenty but Our place of choice is usually MAC, and we never shopped at sephora. The wait was 10minutes (short) for a beauty rep to help us. Our intent was to find a foundation match. The rep was very nice but she was unsure of the product and the colors, especially the darker colors, she herself was of very light complexion. she attempted to match my mom with darker shades than her complexion, and match me with darker shades as well. During the process out of frustration she left us to help another group of women. We had not found our match and was left to match our selves. There were two colors missing to test, and most of the colors for the darker complexion was sold out. Another customer in the store informed us we can try a color and if it's sold out, we can order online. The colors we believed would match my mom were missing and the store did not have any back up samples. Long story short we left without being matched and without purchasing anything. First mistake was to give us a rep without any knowledge of darker skin. Second she left us to dry. Third sold out of everything... overall bad experience read more

I think this Sephora is great. Sure it's not the biggest, but it still seems to have all the makeup products one could ever need. The people are, for the most part, helpful and friendly! They have a lot of different brands, samples, products, whatever. And it's in Bay Street, so pshh, it gets like plus 50 points for that. read more
