I'm guessing they do not have it in store often or it sells out quickly. The store itself is so tight. I felt so claustrophobic and everybody was back to back on everybody. It was just such a small space despite everyone, knowing that Sephora has a very popular big brand and there's always going to be a lot of people coming in and out. Terrible experience. I stopped in today around 2 PM and unfortunately encountered Sarah, the sales associate standing at the front. I asked for help finding a perfume set, but instead of assisting me, she simply pointed in the general direction and showed no interest in actually helping. When I walked closer to the perfume section, the other sales associates were also unhelpful. They were more focused on chatting amongst themselves and applying makeup than assisting customers. Safe to say, I won't be returning to this location. Ironically, I went to the Sephora on 34th Street (across from Macy's) afterward, and the associates there had no issue helping me or walking me directly to the products I needed. I'm also grateful I didn't place a same-day online pickup order, especially after hearing how inaccurate the website inventory can be. read more

Today, between 5:30 PM and 6 PM, I visited the Flatiron NYC location and had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. When I walked in, no one greeted me. I asked an associate where to pick up my order, and she directed me to the front. When I asked the cashier, I was told to step aside and that someone would come help me. The same associate from earlier walked over. There was a man ahead of me and a girl behind me. She asked the man for his name, he gave it once, and she immediately handed him his items. When it was my turn, she asked for my name. I showed her my government ID, yet she still asked again for my name. I told her my name, and then she asked for the barcode. At that point I was confused because she had already asked twice, but I still provided the barcode. When I mentioned that she already had my information, she told me to "calm down," even though I wasn't raising my voice. She went to the back, came out, handed the other girl her order first, and then asked me again for the barcode before giving me my items. By this point, she had asked for my name four times and the barcode twice. She still refused to hand over my order until I had to physically take it from her hand. She then told me I was in the wrong. I asked for the store manager, and she claimed she was the manager and that there was no one above her. She refused to give me her name. When I went to the front to ask another associate, they told me they didn't know her name and that she was not a manager. No one in the store would give me her name so I took a photo of her and contacted corporate. This entire situation was unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely unnecessary. I should not have been spoken to the way I was or made to feel like I was the problem. I expect a proper follow-up on this matter because this experience was unacceptable. read more

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at this Sephora. I provided a photo reference for my makeup, but the final result was not even close. Despite my repeated requests for adjustments, the makeup artist ignored me and didn't check in throughout the service. When it was over, I chose not to tip since the service was far below standard (which is unheard of for me as I always tip at least 20%). The artist became confrontational and argued with me when I selected no tip. Her behavior was shockingly rude, and I felt attacked. I asked her to bring her manager if she wanted to discuss it further. The situation escalated to the point where I broke down in tears. Having worked in customer service myself, I understand that people have bad days, but I have never seen such disgusting behavior from anyone, let alone an employee. Between this artist's lack of expertise and her attitude, I don't believe she has any place working here (or really anywhere people-facing or beauty related). Fortunately, the manager was understanding and had another artist redo my makeup, even comping the service. Despite the manager's efforts, this experience has completely turned me off from ever getting my makeup done at Sephora again. I would not recommend going here for any services, and would advise the managers of this location to find a replacement who is a better representative of their brand. read more

Generally don't love this Sephora because it's on the small side, but I am writing specifically about my makeup mini experience with Stephanie from Smashbox. I walked into sephora dressed to go to a wedding with the intention of just getting my eyemakeup touched up (with a scheduled appointment) and heading to the venue from there. Unfortunately on the way my shoe completely broke and I did not have time to return home even if I wanted to. I asked an associate if they could check to see if there was maybe electrical tape in the back to wrap around the strap that had split because it was the only thing I could think of to fix it. She said she wasn't sure but that she'd check. Not only did Stephanie find the tape, she cut it up and kneeled down to fix my shoe herself. This was so kind and thoughtful as she could see how distressed I was to do something beyond the scope of her job but 100% within the realm of customer service! As she was fixing it we got to chatting about the appointment I had and I told her I was a little stressed about cutting it too close but that the person checking in had somewhat rudely told me I would not be seen before my appointment. Stephanie then went over to her and asked if she could do my makeup herself. The woman came over and asked if I'd be ok with the a smashbox associate doing my makeup. I accepted her gracious offer and we got going. Stephanie was super attentive and kind and left me with a great impression of customer service at Sephora! read more

As I entered there were regular greetings, like "hi welcome to sephora". That is the 2 stars for. The location is good. They literally follow you to make sure you don't touch ANYTHING. I understand the Covid situation but at other sephora stores I went were completely fine with customers using samples or otherwise a stuff explains their store policy at the door. Here, you can't touch anything. You have to ask for permission everytime. I get it, but having someone following me to watch was very uncomfortable so I left store in 2 min. I would never come back. I mean.... We all know we can shop online, if I have to go to store it's because I need to see the size or color or texture of product in person. With one item in mind for weeks, in hopes of being in and out quickly, there are no employees readily available for assistance. I had to fend for myself in circling my search three times to attain one simple eyeliner. Low and behold, I purchased the last one standing on the rack!! One eyeliner for the checkout line was moving like a snail as my eyes were itching from all the powder and cosmetics floating heavily in the air. Once I did that, an individual with very nice blue eyeshadow rudely dismissed me and told me to go to the front for pickup. When I tried to explain to them why I was sent to the back of the store, they cut me off and persisted to attend to the line of just two people behind me. Really didn't appreciate that interaction, next time I'll find another location other than this one. Seems like staff here have an attitude about everything. read more

Would give this -5 stars if I could. Like other reviews mentioned, the customer service at this location is abysmal and inexcusable. I had an appointment last week for a makeup application (10am), prior to heading to a wedding. Unfortunately, my 830am hair appointment was extremely delayed which caused me to be late to Sephora. I called Sephora at 10am telling them I would be running about 15 minutes late and they said sure, no problem. When I was on my way to Sephora at 10:18am, I called again to tell them I'd be there in 10 minutes and that I understood I would be a total of 30 minutes late to the appointment but I would be attending a wedding and was hoping that they wouldn't give up my spot. The lady I spoke to on the phone said "okay, sure, we'll see you when you get here!" Fast forward to me arriving to Sephora at 10:30am. First, it took me about a full minute to find someone that even worked there. The lady I spoke to said that their grace period for services is only 10 minutes. I was absolutely livid as I had called TWICE to confirm if it was okay for me to come in. I told her I spoke to her colleague earlier and they did not mention at ANY POINT that I shouldn't have come in! (MIND YOU, at 10:18am, I surpassed the 10 minute grace period so they should have told me then that I shouldn't come in!!! ALSO, when I called at 10am and told them I was running about 15 minutes late, they SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THERE WAS A 10 minute grace period.) The lady was NOT helpful whatsoever nor was she sympathetic or apologize for the mishap. I told her that I had a wedding to attend to and asked if they could assist with putting on fake lashes at the very least. She said "sorry, there is no one available". I then asked where the eye lashes were and she pointed towards the back of the store. I was clearly very distraught and emotional at this time and she did NOT APOLOGIZE nor help me find the eyelashes. She literally pointed at the back of the store and said "they're over there with the Sephora collection". I have been a loyal Sephora fan for years and have used their makeup services (full makeup application for events, mini facials and 'finding the right foundation') and have always been impressed - everyone has always been professional and courteous.... BUT NOT this location. I will not be returning to this location ever again. read more

Spacious location. This was on a snowy Saturday that i went in here. I had to wait a little for someone to help but not too badly. She was awesome, and I after finding the make up I needed I started venting about how my face has gotten so dry from this product. She recommended a face moisturizer and gave me a sample! I am so happy with this (it's K beauty line's Belif btw...) I went and bought the toner, face wash, and brightening mask! I also grabbed this peeling mask and asked her if she recommended it, she took it from my hands and said no since it's anti aging, I don't need that, haha.. yes best compliment ever but I love that she wasn't just trying to sell products to me. read more

I'm not very happy after my last trip in. I was looking for an exfoliator and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I was approached by an employee who asked if I needed assistance. I usually prefer to just look things up but I was in a rush. After going through a few products I was brought to Caudalie. I specifically paused and asked if they tested in animals or were sold in China. The employee adamantly told me "no they don't. None of the big names do anymore." I knew I should have looked it up but I stupidly trusted this advice. The product is nice and I wish animals didn't suffer for its existence but I'm fuming that Sephora prides itself on its employee and forces their assistance on us as we shop. I just hope this reaches the store so better training can be done. I hate that my money went to animal testing. read more

At 7pm 1/2/20, I was helped by a lovely employee behind the cash register. I bought a Chloe perfume and noticed that when in supine position, it leaks. It started to become a pain carrying it in my sweater pockets just to make sure I didn't get it in my bag (anymore). I spoke to a customer service rep who informed me to just take it in. Mind you, I was a bit worried to do so because it's a 137$ bottle of perfume and the amount that was used was more from it leaking in my bag than bodily use. But I also never make such a large purchase on a single item. I also got It with 15% off due to a promotion they were having so I didn't want to bother them with giving me the money back. So she happily made my exchange without making me feel like I might have scammed her. Only thing I regret is not getting her name. Nice Sephora but smaller, they have a lot of different brands, colours, and products too. However, they are easier to run out of products and they don't have everything. For example, they have Anastasia but it's such a tiny section that they don't even have any of the eyebrow pencils. Decent service usually a bit busy but the wait isn't too long. Pretty convenient and walkable to bus stops, yellow trains, and a bit further down but it's still walkable to 6 train, orange lines, or the PATH. read more

I work right near this Sephora and drop by on a regular basis. In terms of store cleanliness and product availability, this store is fine. The issue is the hit or miss employees. I've encountered some really nice, personable employees who have engaged with me, and then on the flip, there are just some really nasty people who work here. Some employee was pulling people off the main checkout line if they were paying with debit or credit, so I got off the line and waited by her. She was very impersonal, and actually had a bit of hostile attitude, not sure about what. About having to check out customers? She practically grabbed my debit card, shoves it back at me, and then literally took my items and threw them into a bag where they then loudly banged against the counter. With her head down she mumbled something and proceeded to fiddle with whatever electronic device was in her hand. She didn't even bother handing me my bag. Talk about some nasty ass shit. ***so hilarious, a fellow Yelper just experienced the exact same thing I did, on the same day, same employee!!!! Damn girl, find a new job!!! read more

Not a fan of this location. It's been awhile since I stepped into a Sephora and this experience reminded me why. At this particular location, I got approached by an employee if I needed assistance. I replied yes and wanted to be matched with a foundation. She nodded and walked away and here I am thinking she was going to grab someone to help but nope. A few minutes passed by and the same employee walked by me again and repeated the same question oblivious to the fact she ignored my request for assistance. After that I quickly turned around and walked out the door. This is one of the worst customer experience I have encountered at Sephora. I wouldn't recommend, and most of the employees are standing in a corner chatting with each other not paying attention to the customers. What kind of customer service is that? I've been to several Sephoras before (most of them in California) and this one appeared to be more "top notch" in terms of employee presence. But even with employees that look like fashionistas, makeup artists, they were not that helpful. I came by around closing and no one bothered to help me. I was also told on several occasions that Shiseido is available at freestanding Sephoras and this one didn't carry the eyebrow powder I wanted (I was told this in California and in Illinois). An outstanding Sephora. Here is my experience. Allison G. (to associate): "Do you have any men's products? You know, for shaving and stuff?" Helpful Associate #1: "Absolutely. Just right down those stairs." [I headed down the stairs and quickly and easily located the line of Jack Black products for men that I was looking for.] Allison G. (to associate #2): "Do you have any samples of this Beard Lube? I want to give someone a sample to try before I buy the whole thing." Helpful Associate #2: "I don't think I have any samples of the Beard Lube. But if not, I could make you a sample. Let's take a look." [Helpful Associate #2 goes into a drawer in search of Beard Lube samples.] Helpful Associate #2: "Here, take a sample of Jack Black's Facial Cleanser.... and a sample of Body Lotion. Well, it looks like we've got every sample except Beard Lube. I'll make you a sample right now." [Helpful associate gets a tiny, empty jar and fills it with Beard Lube, then labels the jar with the product and brand name.] MAKE me a sample?! This rules!! It took my face and hair TEN YEARS longer than Jessica Whatsit to evolve into their current clean and ungooglyeyed states. I can't think of another skill where a decade-long retardation is acceptable - and heaven knows how much LESS acceptable my inferior developmental rate might have been if not for the oft-occurring Sephora - the hands-on playground servicing both the ladies who fake it to make it, and the occasional (don't be bashful) dermatologically-conscious man. Flatiron's rendition is just around the corner from the behemoth on Union Square - and my preferred pitstop for just about everything in my medicine cabinet. It's infinitely less congested, albeit at the forfeit of size, which suits the calculating shopper who doesn't want to cross a block of floorspace to wait behind a fleet of femmes for their Philosophy and Fresh. I've been to this Sephora several times and it is the only Sephora I've ever been to that I didn't like. I have never previously encountered a Sephora where the employees seem pained to do so much as greet someone. They flat-out ignore the customers and act as if they aren't even there. Angle great- great lighting, etc. Went upstairs to look down for picture? Got BUSTED! Camera picture halted by bitchy saleswoman. "No pictures allowed" she rudely tells my sister while pushing my sister's camera gently away from her nose... She could have EASILY told her w/o being so rude. I know that the environment and smells for an 8 hour shift is probably not the best, but come on. It's a freaking MAKEUP store. A MAKEUP STORE. Not a photo shoot. Not a movie set. Not a new design.
