I went to this store to return something I'd purchased online. They took the item back (I had all the original packaging and packaging slip) and swiped my credit card for the return. 17 days later and I still do not have the money back to my credit card. After 7 days I called the store to ask about it. I have my receipt as proof and gave them all the information. I received a call back from someone at the store saying they had to manually process it etc, etc and I should have the credit. It's been 5 days since that phone call and still no credit (not even pending credit). I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Del has always been wonderful in helping me with my questions. They make you any samples you wish and you can take any product back that you are unhappy with. I love Sephora! Every time I visit, the sales associates are very friendly and always willing to help recommend products that work best for me. If budget is an issue, they recommend budget friendly and more costly options. During my most recent visit, I received a makeup application from Kristen and she was fabulous! The makeup look she did on me was stunning and I received numerous compliments that evening. Although the application took a little long (90 minutes) she was VERY thorough in going over each product, giving me tips for how to use them at home and explaining why one product might be better for me over another. Unfortunately this store is just not fun to go in. The always are terribly thin and it's always way too crowded. Plus it's almost impossible to be helped. I went in with my friend during the weekend. I chose to look at nail polish. Not once was I asked if I needed help, so I painted two nails with a color. I walked around while they dried and I decided to go back to purchase a bottle. I looked for the sample to show my friend only to find the bottle was gone. This just made me put back the bottle and top coat. I don't walk into a store for a free manicure, these bottles were expensive. I'll take my business elsewhere. Don't waste your time or money. These people act like they are above everyone when in fact they are just employees. read more

I had a horrible foundation experience and really dry skin "Tori" made sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. It's a good store - but honestly, I'd rather go to Nordstrom's or Bloomingdale's to buy my make-up and perfumes, since they are much less crowded than Sephora is. It seems that there are all women of San Diego County in this store, all hungry for cosmetics and thirsty for new fragrance. Also, Nordstrom has a better pricing on some items. :) Still, Sephora is the heaven for some, and no one would argue it. Depends what you are looking for. :) read more

The main reason I love Sephora is because the employees do not work on commission, like the people that work at makeup counters in department stores. The department stores always try to upsell you on everything! At Sephora, you can ask for help or advice without subjecting yourself to high pressure sales. If you want samples of anything, just ask one of the employees and they'll package some product for you in a little jar or bottle. Also, they have a pretty good return policy. If you end up not liking something after you've used it, just bring in your receipt and they'll give you a full refund (I think you have 60 days for returns, and if you don't have a receipt I think you can only get store credit). I had to substract one star because they tend to run out of stock on new or popular items. read more

Because of my bad previous experience with one make up artist two weeks ago, I decided it is time to spend money on make up products.Finally! Before I went to Sephora I spend one day to get knowledge about new products, what I need to start and how to do a good purchase, because I absolutely don't know anything about make up! So I did my homework and created my own list of my "must haves". Well, when I steeped in inside I desperately searched for help and support. There are many assistants ready to help you, I worked with three of them. They were patient and kind with me. Also one assistant helped me to determine my skin type and choose the best foundation that suit my skin tone and concealer for dark circles around the eyes. Also best time to visit Sephora is during weekdays, because I tried during weekends but they seemed overwhelmed. It is hard stay concentrated when you know you have to help to many people, I cannot imagine. So to get best attention from customer service is to avoid Fridays and Saturdays. I really like just browsing on my own and explore because I actually like to read the ingredient labels and know what I am putting on my face. I was in need of new foundation and have been battling problematic skin for months. Val helped me and was so patient. She matched my skin tone perfectly and was very knowledgable! I loved all her suggestions and she recommended a spot treatment for my acne that seriously changed my complexion overnight (EradiKate by Kate Somerville). I generally don't like having other people do my makeup, but Val had a very good eye for not only my foundation, but my blush and lip color as well. I will be back to see her! read more

I've been shopping here frequently for the past approx 11 years. The products are what keeping me coming back, the staff is what makes me give a 2 star review. Twice, I was helped by a friendly cute flamboyant male, all other times the staff was either unhelpful or rude or "meh". Once, when shopping for a valentines present for my boyfriend and ready to spend about $100, I felt the employees were following me around, watching my every move as if I was a thief. I had several women follow me through the fragrance section and every time I picked up a product, all eyes were glued. It made me feel uncomfortable but I made the purchase nonetheless. I've shopped there since and the only thing that really bothered me was the tiny space, everyone so crowded... I guess just the overall layout of the store is very inconvenient and sometimes completely impossible. I don't have a good feeling at the thought of the store, if I can avoid it, I will. read more

I am amazed at the customer service at this Sephora! I always feel so intimidated when I go into a beauty supply store because I'm in my 50's, I don't really know how to apply make up that well and I'm kind of a "plain Jane" type of woman. The beautiful younger lady that help me and my daughter was so helpful, knowledgeable and, I felt, totally honest. I just wished I got her name so I could give her a shout out. In Southern California we have our pick of of so many stores to give our business to and a lot of them sell the same or similar products. The difference in the success of a business greatly depends on what level of customer service they provide. We live in Carlsbad but the drive to Fashion Valley is worth it! read more

I went to Sephora tonight and they were out of stock of a lot of products. The Marc Jacobs foundation that I wanted to buy was out of stock and the whole selection was very picked over. I needed the foundation tonight, so I thought I would sample another type. However, the tester was empty. Once I got in line, there was hardly any cashiers even though I saw a few employees standing around talking in the store. I waited in line ten minutes, even though it wasn't very busy. The cashier wasn't very friendly. She asked if I found everything I needed and when I said no, she looked confused and said "huh". She never asked what it was I was looking for either. I went into Sephora because I was getting married the next day and I was going to do my own makeup and of course I wanted to see what was the best makeup to use. The staff was friendly and I was told that with the purchase of $50 they will do my makeup. Point is I made an appt and they said they would call me to confirm but I never received a call! There I was waiting and Thank God someone else was able to do my makeup because I had no makeup since I was suppose to make my purchase on Saturday the same day I was suppose to get my makeup done. I don't know if they took me seriously or why I never heard from them. Now I'm home with pink eye which I've passed on to my kids and maybe it wasn't their fault but just wished I could have done my makeup with them. I hadn't refreshed my make up in too long, so I saw an ad for Sephora for a free consultation and figured I could use some advise. As I had always purchased my makeup from a drugstore, I was overwhelmed when I walked in, so many different companies offering very foreign, to me, looks. Somehow, the associate who took care of me was able to pull together a look for me. I can't say I loved all of it, but I liked most of it, so she ran me down what it would cost to replicate . After filling out the form of what I had on hand, I was, essentially, starting from scratch, and the total was ridiculous.
