Had an appointment for a full face at 3. Got there at 2:55pm and checked in at the door, and again with 2 people at the beauty studio. Was told to wait til my stylist got there. 15 minutes later, I had been asked to "please move" by a staff member because I apparently was in the way while standing and waiting for my makeup artist to show up. Multiple people (walk-ups) were taken in front of me by other artists. Two checked in after me and were seen before me, and none of the staff seemed entirely concerned, other than that I was "in the way." Can't speak to the actual full face makeover because... well, it never happened. After 25 minutes of being repeatedly brushed aside, I informed one of the staff members and got no more than an "I'm sorry, honey." Coming from Texas, I know what that means. Cool. Customer service has gone downhill over the past couple of years. This pertains to the associates on the floor. Let me say the cashiers are generally sweet and helpful. I frequent this Sephora and am ok with tolerating lack of service because I am self sufficient for the most part in knowing what I want, where to find it and being knowledgeable enough abt product; but u really have no choice here. Acquiring service on the floor is challenging. And when u finally get that "service" it is very unpleasant. There's this heavyset gal that's helped me a couple of times. She always has a funky look on her face like she can't be bothered. And her makeup application sux! Even my feet can apply foundation better! She kept glopping on the foundation on my face like it was going out of style when I asked to be color matched. Needless to say I didn't purchase the foundation because it looked like shit on me! Then there's this other time this red headed lady attempted to help me. I asked if they had a power in stock. Her response was "no" and that they can order it and send it to my house with free shipping. I decline and tell her I need the powder today. She goes on ranting about the shipping once again. I ask her if there's another powder comparable and she says no and offers the free shipping again!!!! I said no I'm not interested in the shipping! She snaps at me and says she was only trying to give me options. Seriously lady?! Are u a flipping parrot?! A broken record?! How many times do I have to say no I'm not interested in shipping?! What really bothered me though is my latest experience. I went in and someone actually approached me and asked if I needed help. I found the powder I wanted and told her I was trying to verify the shade. So she confirms the shade I had in my hand is the correct one. She awkwardly keeps standing there and asked me if I needed a second one because I picked up another powder. She must've peeked in my shopping bag because she proceeds to hand me a basket and makes a comment "oh, you have an exchange".. she then tells me not to mix up (the powder) with my exchange. (I had a Sephora bag tucked into my Nordstrom bag). So what was she trying to imply huh? Ummm I'm a Rogue member (top tier spending program) for several years in a row so no lady I won't be stealing or ugh mixing up your merchandise with my personal items. Go figure, u only get "help" when it's unwanted. WTH is wrong with these folks? Does good customer service even exist anymore? I've been a semi-regular shopper here for years for various skin products and cologne. I was in here today looking for a specific item. Sephora was not particularly busy today (neither was the entire Fashion Valley mall). Not busy like it once was in years past this time of year, this close to Christmas. Fashion Valley Mall used to be positively swamped in December. And now I *finally* see why more and more folks do their Christmas (as well as all other) shopping online. It's just so much easier and so much more pleasant. I was in such a good mood. As I got into line, a woman was also getting into line and I let her go first. She insisted I go first, I insisted she go first. "Oh, I insist, you first." "No, you." She went ahead and I was totally cool with it. My turn came and suddenly in swooped another sales person with a shopper in tow - they just waltzed right in front of me and everyone else in line. "Uh, excuse me, but I was next," I said, walking up to the register. "They were being helped first," the young woman behind the register snapped at me. "I don't think so," I said, getting rather irritated. I mean, wtf? All three of them stared at me as if to say, you're just gonna have to wait. Which is what I had been doing - patiently until this point. I ended up just leaving without purchasing the merchandise in my hand. Who needs this shit?! I went home later and ordered the same exact merchandise off Amazon. Easy as pie, no hassle, no attitude, no bullshit. You know, as malls across America continue to decline, is it any wonder why when stuff like the above appear to happen on a regular - if not daily - basis? I'm sure I'll come by Fashion Valley every once in a while - like 2 or 3 times a year. Maybe check out Macy's or Nordstrom and see if anything catches my eye. But, after today, the bulk of my shopping is gonna be online. You merchants at this mall - and malls everywhere - appear dying for business. And yet you continue to pull b.s. like described above. My experience last night was just extra special but this review for this location is long overdo for me. The staff were all so friendly and knowledgeable, I almost left without buying the newest product by Glow Recipe and I was already checking out and forgot so they saved me a trip back. These girls are definitely the types of employees that should be working on Sephora property they are positive, happy and willing to help, everything that cast members aspire to be ando appreciate the consistent great customer service form this location. This Sephora location has got to be one of the busiest stores. My BFF and I entered the store surprised to see so many people in here on a Tuesday night. I was in search for a new lipstick. I found the perfect color but ended up putting it back. As soon as I turned around, the line was literally long. I didn't want to wait so I put back the lipstick. Not once has any of the employees asked me if I have been helped. The only Sephora I will go to is the location out in Eastlake. No lines and not as busy as most Sephora stores around San Diego. If you go to a Sephora in a mall, good luck. Lines are ridiculous. However, I did like the fact that they carried the brand Becca in this location because other stores don't have this particular brand. They carry the most popular brand names. I swear this has to be the busiest Sephora, it always feels like you're in everyone's way, but that is the only negative comment I have to say about this store. I have only received the best service here, I had never tried any other products other than MAC when it came down to foundations and basically anything makeup. I wanted to venture out into the fabulous world of makeup and I found myself youtubing tutorials. I heard in a tutorial that you can get color matched at your local Sephora and I had to check it out. It was a Saturday afternoon, it was a little busy, but I still managed to get some assistance from your stylist Tammie! She was the best, she was so informative, she got me color matched right away! I told her I came in to get a couple of samples for full coverage liquid foundation, I hadn't bought liquid foundation since 2005 (I was 16) so I was really apprehensive at first. Tammie noticed this and asked if she could give me a mini makeover, I nodded, she applied three different brands of foundation and I was instantly in love with Kat Von D's Lock-It foundation! I ended up buying the foundation and so did the friend that I came with! Your Color Match ID stays on your profile and you can purchase products accordingly, I ended up buying a couple online but one didn't work out very well for me. The return process was just as easy as buying it, they returned my money and as I was doing so the sales associate told me to try the Anastasia Beverly Hills Foundation Stick and I did! Nice Sephora location! It's the most popular Sephora in San Diego so it gets really packed on the weekends. Even though it's always crowded I always get helped by an employee! Expect to wait 15-20 minutes in line to pay. They make it easy to make returns too which is awesome! You can pretty much ask for a sample of anything and they'll give it to you except for pressed eyeshadows,powders and mascara. Nicola is the name of the employee here, maybe a manager because she was called to help me with an issue to apply a discount. I ordered a perfume online so I picked it up, but as I was browsing around I saw another bottle of perfume that looks really nice and smells very good. So I bought it as a present for my gf. When I got to the cashier I asked the amazing woman that was helping me if I could use the 20% discount that they are promoting, she called this miserable woman to help putting in the discount code as she can't add it on the transaction and will need a manager to do it. This woman started educating me with a snotty attitude telling me that I can't use it again as it is a one time discount code that I can use, are you freaking kidding me?! Lol! I just bought something less than 10 mins ago. Anyway, she won't help about this matter and as her co worker who called her trying to reason with her so that they can possibly add the discount for my purchase, she then go ahead and started humiliating and berating the other employee and told her with a disgusting attitude "can you let me talk" as a way to shut her up from trying to try to go above and beyond helping a customer. Long story short I gave up and just told them it's okay, but even after I said that this woman still kept trying to explain her stupid case. That money I could've saved won't make me rich. This is my version on candyland but for make-up and beauty product lovers! Let's just say that if I don't run out of things, I can make up a fake story in my head to convince myself that I must go to Sephora! I've been shopping at this location for about 4 yrs and thank goodness I've always had great customer service. I have sensitive skin so I can't just buy anything and although things are pricey they are worth it. I love love love the fact that they can test things on you to see how it feels/looks and if you're not ready to commit just yet you can get samples ( only on liquidy stuff like foundation, eye cream, face wash, primers, make up removers, lotions, shampoo etc etc) Sometimes a shade of lipstick may sound like a good idea but once you put it on... Not so much. The cool thing is that if you want to try things they can help you find your perfect shade, find what's appropriate to your skin needs, suitable for your pocket $$$ and something that just all together makes you happy. I've gotten my make-up done several times by Jenny and Alexis and they were Rockstar Awesome!! I normally don't wear a lot of make up so I prefer for a special occasion to have it done by a professional instead of looking like my 4yr old niece did it for me. If you want to schedule an appt just call ahead and know that it's a $50 purchase. Boscia: you need the Konjac sponge to clean your face and the detoxifying black cleanser. REN: active 7 radiant eye gel Ole Henriksen: truth serum collagen booster, all the vitamin C skin care kit!! Bright lights, full wall of perfume, all the make-up you can try on, and people to help make the right selection for you...love love love! I have sensitive skin, so I'm particular with what goes on my face and lips... you don't want to see a puffin fish face on me. Not pretty... That's one of the things I love about Sephora is their return policy. Unfortunately I usually don't play with the items in the store, because they have been widely used by the public that will make me break out in a rash... yuck right? I freaking love this place!!! One of the reasons why I can't leave without spending less than $200 each time apparently. When you walk in you are greeted by someone who asks you what you are looking for in general and they get you to the right spot or find someone that can help you in their area of expertise. In my case I was looking for contouring and brushes and was presented with several different make up lines which had I was looking for. This is the kind of place where if you go in looking for one thing though beware! They have everything from perfume to eyeshadow and all the accessories you need to apply and you will no doubt be sucked in to getting more than you had planned. Prices are very reasonable and their Sephora line gives you many options without breaking the bank. At the checkout I got a free mini makeup set for turning in some of my Beauty Insider points as well as a free makeup bag. I grew up sitting on the counter watching my mother shade in her brows, and as a 3 year old, sitting on the toilet seat watching my grandmother apply her make up on. At 4, I was so desperate to use make up that I grabbed a ball point pen, hid underneath the kitchen table and drew in eyebrows for myself... except that I completely missed and ended up scribbling on my forehead. Oh how I LOVE make up.... Sephora is like raiding your mother's make up when she's not looking, but better! At least there's no yelling or scolding associated with it. They offer a new type of shopping experience for the consumers. Instead of putting everything behind counters, and succumbing to the pressuring sales tactics of salespeople, you're free to browse and try the different products. They carry a LARGE variety of different labels and skincare products along with a long wall of perfumes and colognes. Do be aware that some of the brands they do carry at Macy's and Nordie's and they offer gift with purchases, or special packaged deals there that Sephora doens't have. I have also noticed a slight discrepency with the pricing for Biotherm... it's slightly less at Macy's. Went to Sephora after work and was greeted by an associate immediately and I explained my situation, she sent someone over to color match me right away. Making the drive from Rancho Penasquitos takes a bit more effort; but I save myself the disappointment from the Sephora inside the JC Penney at the North County mall. I am always greeted by the employees here. And even if the place is swarming with people, they still manage to help you out. Even after I've made a decision on buying a certain product, I'm still approached my multiple employees asking if I have any questions or need any help. Even though I'm on my way to the cash register, it's nice to know that they value customer service. Like everyone else, I do have a problem with the hordes of people and their complete disregard for manners. I understand everyone is here for the same thing, but an, "Excuse me." would suffice instead of pushing me out of the way. This specific Sephora is starting to become my favorite place the go. Every single time I've gone here I get warmly greeted, prompted attended to, and the girls seem so educated with the products and very genuine with their suggestions and advice. I had terrible experience as other locations (namely, South Coast Plaza, OC and Galleria at Tyler, Riverside). My original favorite Sephora was the one in UTC Westfield, La Jolla, but these girls here just made my experience so much better. LET ME TELL YOU WHY. Today I went in, because I was out of cleanser, and needed a new one. I saw a holiday set that included two things I currently use. I was just browsing the selection of Kate Somerville and debating between two cleansers so I walked to MICHELLE M., an esthetician, and another skin care expert for advice. Michelle gave me possibly the best breakdown on products I've ever heard. She knew exactly what they were for, how I should use them, and what I should avoid using with it. Very precise, very instructional and educational, and very meticulous with her expertise. She then asks me if I had time to spare, and i figured, sure. She recommends the Clarisonic and says "I know the product is a little pricey, but trust me, it works wonders". I had been previously using a cheaper knock off and the bristles ended up hurting me. I threw that away a couple months later. She listens carefully to my current skin regimen, my list of current products, and my history of acne prone skin and skin care. She ended up basically giving me a facial at Sephora. I was with her for an hour straight and keep in mind, these girls don't get paid commission. They can easily go find someone else to talk to but she not only kept her attention on my face but also engaged with me to see what I've done before and how we could go about improving things. All the while, she smiled and greeted other customers passing by. I mean, talk about multi-tasking at it's finest. After my hour session, I was pretty sold on the Clarisonic. Granted, I had been lemming for one for 2 years now, but unwilling to shell out $250. She recommended the smaller one since I didn't really have a need for the larger, multipurpose one. I am so glad she explained the different ones to me, and then she found one that was a set for $150 which included 2 products, an extra head, and Mia 2. I mean, how amazing is that. Plus I could immediately see the change in my skin, so I finally bit the bullet and got it. I might update this in a couple months to verify the wonders. So my totally ended up being way out of my budget range, and I told Michelle that. She was amazing. First she made a "skin care for day" and "skin care at night". Then she took out the products that weren't 9-1-1-NEED-THEM-NOW and helped me fit the products I needed into my budget range. At South Coast Plaza, I literally had someone roll their eyes as if I was dirt poor. She totally understood that I was a working student and completely took the time to figure out what was good. That, right there, is how you get a loyal customer, to you and to the establishment. Sephora management, you need to give Michelle M. a huge raise, because she's the best interaction I've never had here. Educated, genuine, and appreciates all clients at Sephora. ps. I typically try my best to avoid Sephora at all costs because of how chaotic it always is. BUT, I had a formal event to go to, and I knew I was going to be too lazy and uncreative to do my own makeup. I've gone to MAC before to get a makeover for prom (many many years ago), and it turned out terrible, so Sephora was my first thought in mind. I went online to book a reservation about 2-3 days before the day of the event. The online interface was very simple and easy to navigate through. I signed up for a 45-minute personal makeover ( which is FREE with a $50+ purchase or if you're a VIB Rouge member). I needed to buy some foundation anyway, so free makeover? Perfect. I got a text and email right away to confirm my appointment and another text the day before as a reminder. On the day of, I showed up 15 minutes early to check in. It was a frenzy inside and I shimmied my way through, but the check-in representative was very nice and helpful. She recommended I look at what products I wanted to use, or grab a coffee instead. My artist was Paige. She didn't talk much at first, but I actually like that because I don't like making small talk in general, so it was perfect. She was very knowledgeable about the products she used on me. I showed her a photo of what I had in mind and she executed it far better than what I had imagined- it was a smoke eye with natural Browns, and a silver lining on my crease cut. What I admire about Paige is that she's an absolute perfectionist and she's super patient. She told me it was a blessing, but also a curse for her because if she doesn't get something right, she'll stress about it. To me, that's just a sign of a hard worker. She wanted to make sure everything she did was flawless and really took her time on me, and I appreciated that so much. I was so impressed with her at the end of the makeover, I wanted to give her a cash tip for her extra time and effort, but she politely declined due to company policy. Interesting experience. I came in on a Sunday looking for a new make up. I wasn't really sure what type of foundation worked for my skin tight, so I asked a wrap. I was told that in order for them to answer any questions I had to be put on a list. I then waited 20 minutes to talk to a rep, when she finally came to help me, I asked her her suggestion and foundation. She should me to different kinds neither of them worked in five. There this one asian girl with pink hair who is always helping me out ( sorry i forgot her name) I could always find what i need even the hard to find Naked Pallet but Urban Decay I like the point system they have at sephora! I usually come to this Sephora when I am in San Diego because it is closest to where I live. This Sephora is usually well stocked and I've never seen them run out of anything that I need. One associate in general particularly impressed me, her name is Luna !! She was very helpful and helped me find all the products that I needed. She also gave me a lot of sample of products that I never would have found without her.If your ever there you should look for her :) I LOVE there beauty insider program, ever since I joined I have saved so much on my purchases and received a lot of goodies. They also have a great return policy ,....unlike other stores, and will accept any items that have been opened or used. Plus if you ever need anything that they don't have in store you could always order online. read more

WORST PLACE EVER!!! The lack of customer service is shocking! I come on a week day where it's not busy at all. I see at least 3 employees just standing around. I go and ask for help, I say that I'm looking for a hydrating foundation and the girl says "oh okay hold on" then she walks across the store and just stands in another corner! I go look for another employee and they all say they're busy, but then I just see them standing around! After leaving with nothing that I came looking for, I called and talked to the manager. His name is Jose and he said "oh well I can offer you a free make over to make this better!" Uhm how about teaching your employees to do their job! I don't understand how they work in retail but yet when someone who needs assistance and willing to spend money comes along they ignore them? read more

Had my VIB makeover with Alyssa O. last week and it was EVERYTHING that I needed. I was looking to learn how to create a bronze glow for a few events I had coming up. When I saw how her own skin was glowing already, I knew we were a match made in heaven. She taught me how to apply the makeup on my own face instead of me solely watching YouTube videos. Not only was my makeover on point, I now know how to (finally) properly apply makeup on my own face! Also, Kelly turned me on to a dry shampoo that I desperately needed and went back to Sephora to buy yesterday! Do NOT sign up for recurring charges! I purchased their monthly box for my niece around two years ago. Unfortunately, I used her email, and she doesn't remember it. Even though the orders are on my credit card and sent to my house, they refuse to cancel the service. Its really unreal how bad of experience this has been. read more
