I loves me some Sephora! They have good lipstick. Sephora brand- $10! They carry my husbands secret weapon: Jonathan Dirt. (Don't tell him I told you, it's supposed to be a secret). It makes him smell like almonds. I love this place for gifts. The staff runs from fabulous to odd and this time, I got a bit of both. Once a month. That's it. No I really meant this time. It's dangerous to wander into Saphora unprepared and put your credit score at risk. The selection and displays just scream impulse shopping for me. All those tiny little boxes can't really add up to $358.79? Doh..... I like this location more than most. It's a little more peaceful than the big mall locations. I feel I can test lip-gloss or eyeliner on my wrist for 15 minutes and no one will freak out or shoo me away. The little clean up station, where you can remove all the make-up you've been testing on your hand/arm/face is kept stocked. The staff doesn't fall you around, which I hate personally as I enjoy discovering goodies on my own. I've always really like Sephora and have quite a few products from them and I was not really in need for any help today, however I wasn't prepared for the absolute rudeness on the part of the employees. I was run down several times by employees with boxes in their arms. A simple "excuse me" or an appreciative "thank you" as I jumped out of the way would have avoided them receiving this review. I was ignored as a I obviously meandered around in search of a gift. Eventually I found what I needed and still no one has said a word to me, but I did learn that one employee was going to China and couldn't take her straightening iron. Could hear that conversation across the store, easily and I'm glad it was so important as I held $100 worth of merchandise. Frustrated, I hoped the girl at the counter would be pleasant. Not only does she not say a single word, but she has a scowl on her face and doesn't even look at me. There is only one reason I shop here--Maria. She is the most helpful makeup artist in this whole company, and has been doing my makeup since I was in high school. She's amazing, and you should ask for her. Otherwise, I'd just as well order online all the time...outside of said makeup artist, the rest of the salespeople sell sell sellllll, when all you want is to be put on a waiting list for a specific product. I have literally had the craziest products touted as "comparable", when all I've wanted is to be put on a wait list. And no, I don't want an eye cream for fine lines, when what I was asking about was a large shadow brush. I mean, really? I have a gazillion sephora points...I'm not here to hoard free samples...you don't have to be so hardcore and off-track. The girls who work here - especially Mackenzie, Kate and Amorie - are awesome! Normally the employees are so pretentious but at this location they are down to earth and totally sweet! I had good laughs with all of them and they each helped me chose awesome products for my face and hair. I love Dermalogica's Super Rich Repair face cream, Perricone MD's Multi-Action Overnight Treatment and Cavair's Hair Protector Gel. Thanks to Sephora I will be able to date way younger guys forever. I wear very little makeup so I think all Sephora stores look the same. I don't buy enough products to know which store has the best inventory, the most helpful sales team, or the least crowd. I love coming to U Village and I was here to see if I could redeem my Beauty Insider points for the deluxe sample version of Tory Burch's fragrance. Unfortunately, it was a hot commodity and they ran out rather quickly. The sales person who assisted me with that question was very helpful and tried to call a couple other stores in the area, but no luck. While we were waiting for her to make the calls, my mom and I stood around the makeup counter and saw that they offer free mini makeover (15 minutes, walk-ins only). You can choose from a number of different options, including: smoky eyes, daytime smoky eyes, flawless foundation, faux lashes, and more. My mom wanted to try the daytime smoky eyes, and even though they were actually busy doing custom makeup application (a premium service, not a free makeover), they were incredibly helpful in trying to find a beauty stylist who was free to help my mom. About 5 minutes later, they were able to free up a stylist who specialized in Stila makeup line (sorry, I forgot your name!). She was wonderful! She asked a few questions and came back with a variety of Stila products and then started working on my mom immediately. 15 minutes later: TA-DA! Daytime smoky eyes for my mom! She was glowing with natural matte color that matched her skin tone very well. The 3 different eye shadows, soft eyeliner and light shimmery concealer she applied on my mom highlighted her eyes very well, giving her a bright, fresh look without too much shimmer. It was a very good experience, despite the store being super busy. We walked away without the Tory Burch fragrance I wanted but happy regardless. read more

I love Sephora, and I can get caught up often admiring their amazing variety of beauty products. But... The U Village location has been disappointing compared to much better experiences I've had in other places. Several reasons: 1) Somewhat poorly stocked (of course, it's December 23rd and people are selling out the place though). Neither the Naked or Naked 3 were in stock, as well as other popular gift items that I would've thought would be available in greater supply in anticipation of holiday shoppers. 2) No Lorac makeup counter! (For some reason, they are only in the Sephoras found in JCPenney) 3) Lackluster customer service. I purchased a $15 eyeshadow pencil and forgot to mention my beauty insider card (though I thought it was a common protocol for them to ask about the cards). When I said "Oh! Sorry, I forgot the card, can you count the points on it?" instead of being offered a helpful solution the salesgirl ringing me up simply said "It's too late! If you call 1-877-Sephora they can help". After leaving, puzzled, I returned because I knew she could easily return and re-ring up the purchase with my Beauty Insider card. When I did return, she had a deadpan, kind of sour attitude, as though I was being a nuisance. I even offered a "Merry Christmas"......nada. I work in a sandwich shop and have become a lot more sensitive to providing and receiving good customer service... I feel like I was not valued as a customer. Though I will probably return because of convenient location, I know not to expect a good experience at the register. read more

This is my go-to Sephora store and I've had mixed experiences here. I like the concept of a store that has a bunch of different brands you can try, but unless you have some idea about what you're looking for and what brands work best for you, it's best not to shop here. I've found sales staff who are friendly and well-trained, to ones who couldn't be bothered and act like you're bothering them. Sephora's also pretty generous with the samples, and if they're out of something they'll get it from another store or tell you how to get it online with free shipping (they give you a promo code). You can also return any item you buy here, no questions asked. The downside - if you're used to getting your little Clinique mini pouches and samples during a special Clinique event, for example, Sephora won't have that here. Prices may also be higher than what you can find online or at other places. And because Sephora only carries certain brands of products, you might not be steered to the right product for your skin/hair type, etc. And one final note, My favorite lip balm, the FRESH Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment - the one thing that makes me return to Sephora time and again - costs an abominable $25.00 and lasts about two months during the summer. It has no SPF, but my boyfriend and I both love the scent and like meth addicts we can't stop buying them. For $25 I could get a burger, fries and a couple of beers at a very decent joint. But instead I lavish it on my thin excuse for lips.This purchase and the incense that I burn to worship my ancestors during the Chinese New Year are the only two impractical things I do all year. My review is strictly re: their customer service. I went to the store a few evenings ago to find a new liquid foundation. I walked through the entire store browsing all the selections and not once did I get a "hello" or "may I help you with something?" There were two employees who were standing just a few feet away from me - instead of trying to help customers, they kept on with their personal conversations. Apparently, employee's personal conversations are a priority over customer service here. To the store manager - please let your employees know that even a quick "hello" can go a long way. read more

Wonderful array of makeup that makes me want to frolick for hours in this store. Not only do I always find my favorites, but I always find something new to try and add to my collection. Prices are decent and I enjoy their rewards and points program to get freebies and coupons. My only gripe when visitng this location, is the customer service that is hit or miss. The folks that greet you when you walk in appear to sometimes go missing when I'm in search of advice. Also, I've come in here a couple of times and heard them complain about their co-workers. I went in to get a ton of makeup once and had an okay experience. They were pretty helpful but the first lady didn't know what I was looking for, but the next one got it right on. I would give them 4 stars but... I went in the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and my friend told me before we went in that she had received an e-mail from Sephora and it said they were giving away a bag with purchase (while supplies last). So after I was rung up, I paid and then I had to ASK for the bag. WTH. I don't like to have to ask for things that are supposed to be given to me. Because of that, I give it 3 stars. read more

I went in hoping to get matched and as a woman of color I am highly offended then the girl has only time to give me a sample of a color that we didn't know matched. I came to purchase not for free samples. This makes the person question if they are insinuating that I cannot afford quality products. Not to mention that when I first walked in and asked for help in skin care no one even bothered to show up. I spent nearly $300 in this visit to be mistreated. I usually stay away from Sephoras except for this location. The staff here actually care about you and give good advice! Where I have found other locations to be quite opposite. I can walk around for over an hour at any other location before I am able to hunt an associate down for help. I was in this location just a few weeks ago trying to figure out what new cleanser I wanted. The sales associate that helped me gave me a run down of four different all natural products she liked and even pointed out ones which were less expensive. I have problematic skin and my esthetician introduced me to Peter Thomas Roth products with great success. I have only been able to find them at Sephora or online and had been using them for years when all of a sudden the product line changed and no one at any other Sephora location could tell me what was going on. It seemed every location I went to was out and I became very frustrated because my skin started to show it's missing of the products it had grown used to. I end up at University Village, frustrated and as silly as it sounds, almost in tears because I was starting to resemble a pubescent teen. A very sincere lady helped me and FINALLY there was someone who could answer my questions and understood my dilemma. She ended up being the manager of this location was able to explain to me that PTR had gone under a change and they were slowly moving out of their products that catered to my challenging skin. She then introduced me to the Boscia line and my skin is SO much happier now! To be honest I was skeptical since I have tried many lines without good results but she seemed very knowledgeable and genuine so I gave the line a try. Since this experience, I've made this my main Sephora and each time I come, the staff are friendly and helpful. The store is well maintained and they always have what I need in stock. A few times items haven't been on the shelves but they are always accomodating and look in the back to which they have always found what I'm in need of. I've made a few stops at Alderwood because of convenience however that store makes me think that a teen slumber party happened and all the make-up testers were abused. A total disaster of a store, they are usually out of stock on something I need and the staff looks and acts like they are preparing for a train wreck! read more

Amazing costumer service!!!! Every staff member was super helpful and went above and beyond to help me. I came in looking for new foundation and after looking around lost. A employe stopped and asked me if I needed help. And she was great giving options and tone help. And went and grabbed the one I needed. Which was great since it was me, my double stroller and my toddler in tow! The location seems small but it could be because it's super crowded with make ups galore!! My daughter loved all the make up that she could sample! I usually just shop online but when I have a chance to come to this store I always do!! I've been in this location THREE times and only ONE of those three times was I offered any help. I was disappointed to find out they don't carry Lancome cosmetics/skincare at this location as well. Hopefully when they meet, the client relations/customer service will be better. Hopefully, there will be people staffed at their check-out registers when people are ready to spend their money at this store. Hopefully if there is someone staffed at the register, I will no longer have to stand in a line of 5-7 people and wait for 10 minutes to spend money in their store. Hopefully they will no longer run out of basic things like some of their name-brand lip gloss. I always stop in Sephora when I am in the U-village because I love make-up, trying different products and seeing what's new in the market, but I have to say, my last visit was a little less than impressive. I got a really snooty vibe from a handful of the associates and I suspect it's because they either thought I wasn't going to buy anything (wrong), that's just their everyday attitude, or they're burnt out from working in retail. Now here's the thing, I work in retail too and it can really be mentally exhausting, but if you're not going to have a welcoming, good attitude, that really ruins the experience for your customers. Plus, I always try to be friendly shopper because frankly, I know what it's like to try to serve a difficult/rude customer--not great. I was asked, quite brashly, if I needed help finding anything multiple times--that's probably where I got the vibe that they thought I was not going to buy anything. Well, that or maybe it was the multiple stink eyes I was shot while browsing their fragrances. What gives, U-village Sephora? Anyway, the only redeeming employee during this whole trip was the gal who rung me up. She was super friendly and helped me end this particular Sephora shopping trip on a high note. Unfortunately I didn't get her name...but kudos to her. On an overall note though, usually my visits to the store are fine (which is why they're getting three stars and not lower), but this particular visit left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I will still visit in the future, but I would highly suggest that some of the employees get an attitude check because there's nothing worse than spending almost $100 in a store but getting bad to no service at all. read more

The number of products they have, 3 star. but the service, 5 star. hence the 4 star. This is a fairly small sephora shop so they don't have as many products as normal. They were missing my Miracle BB cream and a lot of Amore Pacific products as well. So if you're looking for very specific products, i would suggest buying online or checking ahead of time. However, if you want great advice about recommendations, this is the place! I received help from 2 of the staff and they were both soooo knowledgable. The first staff was great at recommending me brands that would work great on my skin and knew exactly what was and wasn't working for me. The second staff got me a sample I asked for but then recommended me another brand to sample that she said is much much better on her experience. I'm not a "makeup person", but if I need a refill on the basics or just want to try something new, I know I will find something here. Staff is friendly, and they are good about acknowledging you even if it is busy. Came here two different times. The first time was to buy a gift for my girflriend. I was looking for a new cologne for her and was almost immediately greeted and assisted. The sales girl told me they have a computer system that will help guide you to different scents depending on what you already like. Overall this first trip was really spot on. I was able to get in and out in under 15 minutes. The second trip back was not so good. Unfortunately my girlfriend didn't like the cologne I bought so we came back to Sephora to see if she could exchange it. The store was out of sniffer cards (the paper that you can spray). We stood there looking at all the different colognes and smelling the different bottles. We started making our way to the back of the store. There were a few people working there but they were talking amongst themselves and never acknowledged us. We finally went to the cash register and just asked if we could get a refund. The purchase was refunded with no questions asked. The cologne was unopened and we had the receipt though. read more

I love Sephora. So much. I shop frequently online when I'm lazy, but when I'm in the area, I come to this Sephora (alternating between this one and Bell Square). The U Village one is a little smaller so they don't always carry everything I'd be able to find at the Bell Square one. On the other hand, the staff here is friendlier. For Identity Festival last year, I was shopping for make up since I'd be sweating all day in the summer sun at the Gorge. One of the associates was SUPER nice. She gave me a sample of some foundation she highly recommended. She totally acknowledged that as a consumer, you wouldn't want to spend $40 right off the bat for some make up you're going to try out once at a festival. Granted, the suggestion was perfect, and my make up did NOT run at all during the whole duration of the festival despite sweating like a craycray. I've actually gone back and purchased afterwards for future events alike. That's just one example. So in the end, while their selection may not be as vast as you'd find at the downtown or Bellevue locations, the people who work there are just super nice and helpful. read more

We really like that this Sephora has real natural light with the big windows. It helps when trying to pick colors to be able to walk out and check in the sunlight rather than relying on artificial bulbs. Everyone is also helpful here and they give large enough samples so I can test the product and make sure it does what I want it to do. read more

It's unfortunate that this location has a few low stars due to poor customer service. I actually prefer this location over the one in Downtown Seattle just because of their customer service!! I'm always helped right away, even during the hectic Holidaaaaze. The salesgirls are always extremely polite. Once I came in wearing my "I love Big Daddy THIS Much t-shirt from Theo Chocolate and immediately striked up a few conversations with the girls about the company. Very polite!! This location also always has whatever I'm looking for and doesn't try to pawn off something I'm in no way interested in. I was nearly ready to give up going into a physical Sephora location because of the lack of help, and lack of a specific product I want. Whenever I need my make up fix, buying a present, or want to try something new ... I always head to THIS location. read more

The staff can be hit or miss, but overall I really like this store. It is small, so it doesn't have as large of a selection as their downtown store -- but it is nice. They are extremely helpful and generous about samples, so feel free to ask! I frequent Sephora (VIB Rouge here!) and have rarely had a negative experience. This outlet is close to the U District, which means that most college students will probably wind up here. The makeup counters are kept clean, which always shows good management, and I feel well-cared for every time I step in here. I highly recommend calling ahead of time and checking to see if they have a particular item in stock. Sometimes, this makes the process easier. read more

Having worked at sephora for 5 years I am really disappointed in this store. I walked in 2 separate times ... I was so undecided on a foundation... I didn't get one hello. The cast members were grouped up chatting it up and I can tell that the customers that were in there could use some help. One girl in Particular was waiting for someone to attend to her and this sephora guy walked straight past her to chat with another team member. I saw at least 3 sales opportunities walk out the door. I came back here recently and WOW! What a change from my previous experience. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming, everyone had a smile on their face. The woman working near the perfume section was very helpful and helped my husband and I find some new fragrances. She was very knowledgeable and hooked us up with samples to take home. The last couple of times I've gone in looking for specific products I've purchased at sephora, this location tells me that sephora doesn't carry it and to look elsewhere. You do actually carry all the things I've asked about, you just have them online and not in this particular store. Just say that. I just had a terrible experience at this location. I came with no foundation on hoping to get help finding the right shade. My birthday is tomorrow and I just wanted to treat myself! No one greeted me. I said hi and smiled to a guy who worked there, hoping to be offered assistance, and he looked at me and then looked away. Other customers came in and were greeted right away. This always happens to me at the Seattle locations, but this felt the worst. I tried seeing if someone would help me in other zones (clearly the ones in the front were more interested in talking to each other than someone looking to splurge) but to no avail. University village sephora is probably the best store ive been to in years! their associates are incredible nice and helpful. I came in looking for a lipstick that ive bought many years ago, and they didnt have the exact lipstick, but a helpful associate approached me and asked if i needed any help. Not only did she match the exact shade of my lipstick, she found me a great lip liner to match with it, and a fabulous lip gloss to wear over it. I was amazed with how much knowledge she had, and how quick and efficient she was. The cashiers were very nice and didnt rush me at all! Of course, like most girly-girls, I love going to Sephora to try on new colors, perfumes, etc. However, the customer service at the U-Village Sephora is particularly bad. I went there last week to buy a gift for a friend (Stella perfume in the roll-on that only Sephora sells) and look for grey nail polish. I found exactly what I was looking for and went to the counter. The rude woman at the counter said, "Oh, I think this is the last one," referring to the Metro Chic nail polish I was about to purchase. For some reason, they wouldn't let me buy the "last one" and said she'd have to check the drawer for more in this color. She walked over to the display opened the drawer, barely glanced at the drawer, and "confirmed" that they were out and refused to let me buy the last one. So, I went back over to find another color. Back at the counter, another bitchy salesperson rings up my sale. No smiles, no chit chat, no offers, not even a thank you and have a nice day. The people who work at this Sephora are RUDE and completely unhelpful. Next time, I'll go out of my way to the downtown store. Seriously. read more
