I normally like this store, though it is a little busy and hard to get helped sometimes. I was looking to get shade matched for foundation for a wedding I'm in. When I asked the employee, she said they're not shade matching because they don't have enough employees with the holiday rush. Totally understandable! What I understood less was when I walked out of the store, I walked past someone else getting shade matched. I would've been happy to wait if that were the case, so I was a little disappointed because I likely wont have time to get it done before the holidays/wedding. read more

I'm not even kidding when I say I am convinced the workers here do their best to be as slow as possible. Don't come if you don't have at least an hour to wait in line. They only have one cashier working at all times and all the other employees mill around staring at the 20 person line. read more

Horrible experience here. Came to return something bought online and was directed to register in the back. There were several people in line and I ended up waiting 15- 20 min but during that time and employee came up and opened a register next to the line I was in. Everyone including myself were relieved until the realization was made that she crawled back there ONLY to ring a large order for a gentleman she was helping. Even acknowledging my frustration with a smile directly at me. I finally arrived at front of line and they rewarded my patience with yet another slap in the face and told me because I used a credit card through PayPal, they would only issue a merchandise credit. Always have a great experience at this Sephora. The staff that work here are very attentive and happy to great you as you walk in to offer assistance right away. They have different supply of merchandise all year round so if you don't see something in store they can ship it to you or you can check the store in person in a week or so and it can be there! read more

I think my experience at Sephora is always very dependent on the associate who helps me. Last week, Stephanie helped me out, and mad shout out to her! I had a whole list of products I needed to test out for color for the upcoming VIB sale and personal haul. Stephanie never acted annoyed, but was friendly, attentive and terrific through the whole process. We had some issues coming up with a color match for foundation. The products that I wanted to try out were not in the store, and the color iq/match on the Sephora system was throwing out some really weird colors for my skin. In the end, we had to try a different brand foundation to try and see if that would be color matched to another product, but the app just didn't want to work. I may just have to purchase the foundation in different colors and return what doesn't work. Meanwhile, lighting inside the Sephora seems to be very nice and bright, but somehow throws everything off. Stephanie knew the best spot in the store where we could check, and we did find a shade that worked. Unfortunately, after coming home and looking in natural light, the color was off slightly. After trying some of the other items on my list, when an item wasn't to my liking or it didn't have a color that I liked, Stephanie was very good at suggesting other brands (other than Benefit, which I've been steered to many, many times in the past), ones that I actually liked upon trying. But she wasn't pushy and the suggestions only came once she saw I was disappointed with the ones I was working with already. So even though Sephora didn't have the items I really wanted on stock (what happens when you research on YouTube and want all the items on beauty influencers' go get list), I was happy to have gotten to try most of the colors and figuring out what does and doesn't work for me. Then I went to look at some skincare products. Now, makeup I usually need help with. Skincare, I don't. I have very finicky skin, which likes to do its own thing. I also use prescription creams that don't work with a lot of exfoliating products out there. I've also tried SO MANY skin care products because of all the problems I have. So I'm good left alone in the skincare section, looking at the ingredients and doing the "feel" test on my own. So when associates approach me and ask if they can help, I thank them and tell them I'm really ok. Personal pet peeves: 1. when an associate steers me away from a brand I'm looking at and directs me to another brand. 2. when I try the other brand and don't like, but the associate tells me it's great anyway 3. when the associate knows less about makeup than me (believe me, I don't know much, and what I learned is from YouTube) but acts like they know what's best for my skin There was this one associate who wanted to be really pushy though, and pretty much made me come with her to check out a Drunk Elephant product while I was looking at some of the newer products on the Dermalogica line. Wanting to be polite, and hope I was wrong and would get a great recommendation, I did give the product she wanted me to try a try. But when I told her that the mask felt more like moisturizer, she looked dubiously at me and said, "well, you can lather more on. I only gave you a little bit to try". Um. No. Anyway, not sure why she wanted to push that product on me so much. But after I told her I prefer the texture of Summer Friday's JetLag, she looked blank and had no idea what product I was talking about. That told me she didn't really know much about the products she was selling. I thanked her and went on to my own research. But the experience doesn't sit right with me somehow. read more

Typically, I do much of my beauty supply shopping at Ulta for many of the reasons some reviewers have mentioned: Their locations are larger and less overwhelming. However, when I heard that Sephora was an early adopter to the 15% Pledge (pledging to carry at least 15% Black-owned brands), I decided to make a switch (full disclosure-as of 2/2021, Ulta seems to have made some commitments of their own to diversify the brands they source from, but I appreciated Sephora's more immediate willingness when approached this past summer). So, recently, I found myself heading into Sephora for some highlighter. As many have stated, it can be a little overwhelming in Sephora. I sort of immediately realized my normal relaxed wandering was not going to work here. So, when a worker asked what I was looking for, I immediately responded (with possibly a bit of desperation): "Vegan, cruelty free highlighter!" Within two minutes she had introduced me to two of her favorites. I chose the one I liked better, paid, and headed out. She was super friendly and accommodating while finding me the best product for my skin tone. I don't think this is the sort of spot I would go to simply browse. It's more the sort of place I'd go with something specific in mind to purchase, ask for help finding it, and then immediately purchase and leave. But, that's just me. Masks were required and they were diligently limiting the number of shoppers allowed in at any one time. They obviously have a ton of stock so there's no question that there is plenty of variety. You will almost never find me here. I don't wear make-up of any kind, which this place has a lot of. I don't wear a lot of perfumes, I don't use styling products and I probably wouldn't know the significant difference between any brushes or tools you put in front of me. However, I do have problem skin and eczema, so this place is great for sampling products that will ultimately put a dent in my budget. I had a great experience today. My little helper Vicki was super sweet and eager to narrow down a product that i was looking for. She showed me a couple of items, we discussed the ingredients and I ultimately made a purchase because I think the cream she pointed out will do the job. She didn't try to up-sell products, didn't suggest any super expensive items(I know they have them, they're on the website) and answered all my questions. She even put together a sample of some cleanser that might help me so that was awesome. The store is a little cramped, but staff are not hard to find and pointed me in the right direction. It's a very well lit store and neatly organized. I can see how the weekends or holidays might make this an impossible store to shop in, but if you go mid-day on a Tuesday like me, there should be no issue :) read more

I love this store!!!!!! Surprisingly Sephora stores aren't everywhere around here. I'm just glad we have this one here. If you are yelp, this store does cash back time to time so pay attention when they do cash back and link your debit or credit cards to this app to get cash back. You have to check this store in this app and if they have cash back bar for you to click, click it. I love this store because they got helpful staff that can really help you and educate you if you don't know much about the product or what you're looking for. I love that they give you samples!!!! Samples as to foundation, perfume, skincare products as long as they can scope and put it in a small container. I also got a few pads for anti aging in a zipped bag. I love samples. Ulta Beauty stores doesn't do this. They have makeup brands that nobody else carries such as Hudabeauty and Fenty. And they have good quality skincare such as Tatcha, Dr Brandt, Youth to the People, Korres, Belief, etc. I just want them all. They carried a lot brushes and lashes. I love travel size skincare and makeups haha so cute and small to try out. Their reward program works differently from Ulta Beauty. They give you points to earn towards products. There are selected mini products at the front desk for you to choose or they got better ones online if you order online. You got to earn a lot more than ulta to get better products. It's selected so keep saving up until they got the products you want out. The more points you get the better products you can choose from. I can't believe people got up to 10,000 points. I was there with my best friend and we were just browsing around like everyone else minding our business. This worker had a whole attitude with us and was being horrible rude, I was looking to see if they have the sun glow highlighter from saie and he said "we don't it" sizing me up and down in the most condescending way... next this lady was very rude, she literally yelled at me for smelling a perfume.. so I didn't see a sample so I seen one open and smelt it and she yelled at for opening it and I apologized and she just mugged me. Next while i was browsing through drunk elephant the same guy coughed like trying to get my attention and i turned around and he sized me again. Next with the same lady was so rude to my best friend almost snatching her phone and very like sassy checking her out. We left and never coming back. read more

What do I do in Sephora? I smell all the colognes! It's nice not to have a sales counter or sales person between you and the colognes and perfumes. I like free reign. And actually, the last time I was in here, there was a helpful sales associate that talked about some of the big new scents, and gave me a few samples. Rather than having to go to 4 separate stores that only carry certain colognes (by contract), Sephora has it all. Or most of it all, at least. They've got lots of makeup for the ladies, too. And my sister likes that they have perfume roller balls of most any scent she wears. When I bought a gift card here recently, they wrapped it all up in a nice big shiny plastic box, added some samples, and only later did I find out there was a nice compact hand mirror included as well! read more

I have to give Sephora an upgrade - my service the last few times has been really good. In general, I know what I like in terms of makeup, so I rarely need help. However, my favorite foundation was discontinued and I'd been struggling to find the right thing to replace it. They have this new computer thing that scans your face and then assigns you a number - they can pop that in the computer and it will come up with exact matches for you. It's MAGIC. Better yet, once you know the number you can enter it on the Sephora website and it will pull up all your matches. You'll never have shitty looking makeup again! Anyway, magic skin computers aside, the person that helped me out was super nice and not at all pushy in terms of getting me to buy stuff. I was on the fence about a primer so she loaded me up with samples to test out at home. Yes, it's a little overpriced. Yes, the store is way too bright. Yes, I know that I shouldn't buy into the concept that women "need" to wear makeup but that whole "natural beauty" thing is a load of BS. I look like a total hag without stuff on my face. I try to avoid reviewing chains but here we are. I'm nearing 25 and have never been able to properly apply makeup without it looking like a 5 year old got in mommy's makeup bag. I've tried applying drugstore items, with the aid of YouTube tutorials, but I look like I'm trying out for a second-rate circus (let's be real here, its more like third-rate... or lower). I now have a big fancy corporate job and my "no maintenance" (a step below low maintenance) look isn't cutting it. I'm assimilating--losing all of my punk cred--and letting the makeup gods/goddesses have their way with me. Greeter: "Hello! Can I help you find anything?" Me: "I have my tax return and no idea what to do with my face. Help." The woman complimented me on my winged eye liner, which was a definite confidence boost and literally the only thing I know how to do. She introduced me to another woman named Jelly (YOU'RE A SAVIOR, THANK YOU SO MUCH) who educated me on the ways of the makeup world. If anyone reading this was in the same boat as me (i.e. clueless, uncomfortable, defeated), be upfront about it and have someone assist you. I have no problem asking dumb questions ("so wait, what is primer?"), and Jelly helped me with everything I could possibly want to know. All I needed to do was give them a general sense of the aesthetic I strive for and what items I wanted to explore. I CAN APPLY EYESHADOW NOW. I CAN DO MY BROWS. As far as prices go, you know what you're getting into. Use your best discretion. I'm still using my Walgreen's eyeliner, but I bought everything else they recommended. Great experience today with seeking out a new skincare product. I am decently clueless at all things skincare and makeup - and Jackie, one of the Color Experts was able to help address my concern and selected two products that fit my needs. She applied the BB Cream to show me the difference between the two, and highlighted the differences between each. I love the product that I ended up selecting, and felt confident with my decision - but in no way did I feel pressured to make a purchase. She was helpful, personable and friendly, and in no way sales-y. Jackie asked a couple times if there were any other questions that I had, or anything else she could help me with - when I asked about a multitasking SPF product, she recommended this awesome mineral powder formula. Good god. I loathe that I love this place. It's everything I want to abhor but the girl in me is all over it. Overpriced lotions and creams and lipsticks and eyeliner and hair products and Sephora represents lots of things that my unyielding punk ethos hates about modern society except that I TOTALLY BUY IN. The Good: -kick ass brands, awesome products, choice and serious depth of offering in a relatively small space at the mall of Mayfair -points when you spend all yr monies and buy things so that you may later redeem smaller things for said points so that you keep shopping (reward system/incentivizing = genius on the Sephora overlords' part for sure) -Sephora-brand make-up = oftentimes a solid substitution for pricier options (this depends on the specific product however) The Bad: -It's overwhelming and this particular location is pretty tight, but not in a "GD that's tight, brah!" 90s kind of way. Lots of staff. Lots of shoppers. Screaming kids. Lots of smells. A small space and a sparkly floor. It's just the way of it, but to be honest I think that it's time Sephora move to a larger space or add a second MKE metro location. It's too much. -I spend way too much money when I'm here and can't help but think that generic brands/Walgreens stuff might actually be just as good in some cases The I'm Annoyed: -staff: helpful, almost to a fault (... last I was here I had at least 4 different folks on the floor approach me. Oh, Sephora, I am torn on this one. You carry wonderful products. Many lines of wonderful products. All in one location. You are well stocked, well lit, and the free sample idea? Love it. It like a giant candy store for ladies! For this I give you five stars. However... The attitude of 93% of your employees is horrendous. Needed help finding a good lip stick for my birthday and one of the older ladies was so nice and help me match the color perfectly with a lip liner. When I got to the counter to check out one of the younger girls was so rude! I didn't hear when she asked if I had a card with them so I asked her again what she said and she spoke it slow as if I was dumb. So I didn't pay any mind to it and proceeded to check out. Rachel's review is pretty much what I want to say to a T. Are there tons of pretty, shiny, lovely things here that I like to play with? Absolutely. But do I find the whole thing kind of ridiculously overwhelming? Hecks yeah. Usually about three minutes after I walk in I remember why I don't do it very often and I try to high-tail it out. Except there's usually 892 things blocking my way out, including 17 employees asking me if I need help. I wish the store was twice the size and had half the employees. Phenomenal selection of top makeup, skincare, and fragrance brands, and knowledgeable, helpful staff. Lots of free samples and promotions, and wonderful tips/tricks/makeovers from their skilled makeup artists. Of course, the staff wear full faces of makeup, with heavy emphasis on the latest dramatic looks, which is great fun. But I brought my niece here for her very first makeup lesson, and couldn't have been more pleased - the finished look was pretty, polished, and very natural: age-appropriate for a young girl, and most importantly the artist stressed good skincare (not just pushing color products). It is always a hit or a miss with service here. I have never had anyone help me for more than 3 seconds before rushing off to the next customer. Its pretty obvious you have to book one of those makeover sessions and spend some $$$$ to get any personalized attention. I do not trust their color match machine either. The 3 times I tried it (had to be convinced after the second time) it was always off by 2 shades. I ended up just doing it myself. I will give them props for always having semi pleasant efficient people at the registers though. Ill still go here if I need something thats out of stock online but I never go with high hopes. read more

I almost always shop from Sephora online- just easier for me than making my way out to Mayfair. However I was buying foundation so I had to come into the store to get the right color. This is not one of the biggest Sephoras I have been to, but they still carry most of their usual brands. The employees here were wonderful! Elizabeth saw me and my confusion when trying to find the right color of foundation and she helped me right away. She gave me so many great tips and tricks! They were unfotunately out of the one I needed so she ordered it from the warehouse and had it shipped to me for free. I did not feel like she pushed products on me at all, she just really wanted to be helpful. I really wish they would open a Sephora downtown, but in the mean time I will happily shop at this one. read more

My experience here was great and continue to go to Sephora for my skincare. Although while standing in line to purchase this past Saturday I witnessed one of the workers who works with the makeup applying concealer on someone's blemish... although using the applicator out of the tester tube, not a new clean applicator which should always be used. Then puts back onto the shelf along with all the other testers. It was way too busy that I didn't want to be that person and make a scene about it so I left and emailed Sephora directly. This is extremely unsanitary and spreads so much bacteria and makes me wonder how much of this is done. Definitely won't be testing out any of their makeup in my future. read more

This review applies just to the staff at this particular location. I love Sephora and frequent it in Chicago. While in Milwaukee for a weekend I stopped at Mayfair Mall and into this store. Frankly I've probably never had a more absurd retail experience. I worked in retail in high school and undergrad and have a fairly good idea of what is appropriate retail sales behavior. I came in here looking for a perfume. The sales associates pounced on myself and my boyfriend. Four contacts in no less than 30 seconds. Then one of them proceeded to follow us around the store. Literally, I moved to a different display, he moved. I left shortly after because I don't feel the need to spend money when made to feel completely uncomfortable. I have never had an experience like tthis shopping. I would skip this store, unless you want to be treated like a thief. read more

There was a manager at this location at sephora that is extremely rude. Her name was Liz. My cousin and I went in there and got our makeup done and the makeup artist was amazing. I heard the manager walk over to the makeup artist and say"are they going to buy something." Seriously we walked out spending $200 together but felt rushed by this manager. She gave us rude looks and it was very uncomfortable. When you go into a store to learn about makeup and buy makeup you expect to actually be treated good. She kept hovering around the makeup artist and was like there is another person waiting!! Well, this makeup artist was going as fast as she could. I felt bad for her and us. read more

I am a VIB member at Sephora and was going to shop there for Christmas gifts, and found out that I qualified for a free hour-long makeover along with a $50 purchase! Sweet! On top of that, I was emailed a $20 gc with a $50 purchase, double win! I had a Philosophy Aesthetician evaluate my skin, and use appropriate products to prep it for the makeover. I walked out of there feeling gorgeous and glamorous with a bag full of goodies and a free gift for being a loyal customer! I usually never go to Sephora because I have crippling anxiety and everyone in every store is so beautiful and great at makeup that, even if that's not the employees intentions, I feel intimidated just by walking through their doors; HOWEVER, today I was on my lunch break, too short on time to go to Ulta, and needing some eyeshadow, so I ended up going in anyway. I told Natalie I needed some bright, sparkly eyeshadow and she recommended me the exact thing I was looking for in a matter of seconds. She ended up being the same person to check me out and she totally caught me by surprise by how continuously sweet and helpful she was. I entered my pin wrong and while this would usually cause me to anxiety-spiral into a panic attack she laughed with me and made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. I really wanted to love this place and the products were plentiful, so there was plenty to love! But, the service was almost horrible- I'll explain my almost later. Pam, the old woman with the red bob &the majority of other cast members were walking around with their noses in the air! My friend and I were never greeted, we were in search of a good tinted moisturizer, but because neither of us have a high makeup IQ we needed a little help . Needless to say we gave up on finding one and I just looked for the facial mask I knew by name from a youtube video.
