Rustic elegance is how I would describe this winery, gorgeous woods all throughout and fiercely elegant all at the same time. We were cheerfully greeted by Mason who poured us glass of light crisp rose and soon after that we had a very tasty Chardonnay, I'd say an excellent way to start our food and wine tasting day. Not long after that we got to meet the delightful Lisa, she was an absolute delight she gave us a tour of the grounds and we discussed the wines and had a tasty little Dungeness crab cake with the 2015 Haire Vineyard Chardonnay so delicious. Now onto my very favorite part, which of course was the food and wine Pairing we were extremely privileged to meet the owner Steve, he spoke of his excitement about this new offering and we were the very excited to get started. The first course was the Alaskan black cod with lentils, caramelized fennel and parsnip it was paired with the 2014 Tonella Vineyard Cabernet Franc, This was a match made in heaven. The second course was the ricotta gnocchi with vegetable Bolognese roasted heirloom tomatoes and mushrooms with shaved picorino and was served with the 2014 stagecoach vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Third course duck three ways roasted duck breast duck coffee toasted Farrow and current and the hazelnut gremolata served with the 2013 Henry brothers Cabernet Sauvignon. Fourth course Cabernet braised short rib served with brown butter squash and a Cabernet Demi this was served with the 2013 cambium. And our dessert was a salted caramel brownie in this beautiful gold box the perfect way to finish our incredible pairing. Britney was the Chef and I must say she has incredible skills in the kitchen, everything was done so exquisitely, Thank you Britney for these amazing foods and the amazing wines that you paired were a perfect match. During the food and wine pairing, there was a whole lot of quiet which is rare and that's because everybody was just enjoying every sip, and every bite of every moment. Absolutely DEVINE I highly recommend doing this and I can guarantee you I will be back. Been here. Done that. Ours was an end-of-day visit. Extraordinary in Napa terms, we didn't need an appointment. And our adorable pourer was both entertaining and knowledgeable. Ms. Reza stayed with us until the doors were locked, bless her soul. But we still left empty handed. Besides, we had bought some pretty amazing stuff earlier in the day. Our tongues were already pleasantly tainted and admittedly on overload. That happens. If we had come early in the day, perhaps it would have been a different story. But after a full day of wine tasting, it ranked low in comparison. Good, but not drop dead wonderful. On the plus side, this is a very pretty venue. Where else in wine country can you close your eyes and just for a moment imagine yourself in Mariposa County (aka Yosemite), land of sequoias. Maybe not the giant ones, but all the same, fragrant, healthy and statuesque. And the tasting was fun. In comparison, I would have to give it a 3.49 stars. Don't let my review deter you. The best wine tasting experience I've ever had! I've been to many wine tastings but hands-down the best experience was Saturday at Sequoia Grove Winery. Onaad (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) was so engaging and knowledgeable. He was not only able to deftly discuss the wine we were enjoying but he had such interesting insight into the local Napa Valley history. We went with another couple but with Onaad it was like we went with another friend. This was a wine tasting EXPERIENCE and Onaad was the reason for that. The wine as Sequoia is outstanding. I had actually taken a break from reds about 8 years ago; however, this tasting, and especially Sequoia's Cambium changed that. Other standouts were the Cabernet Franc and the Stagecoach. We ended up joining Sequoia's wine club and purchasing several bottles. The club is great because we'll be getting quarterly shipments of amazing wine from a winery we love. Also, we can customize our shipments ahead of time. Also, as members we can enjoy Sequoia tastings anytime we want for free! Next stop: Sequoia Grove Vineyards! I'd never been to this winery, but it is one of my friend's favorites. It's on the smaller side, so it definitely doesn't have the carnival-like atmosphere that some wineries do. The winery grounds are relatively small - one smallish tasting room with an area for merchandise. There are ~5 bar spaces for tasting indoors, but there are a number of tables (~5 tables) outdoors. Again, we bought by the bottle since we were such a large group and tried the Cab, Cab Reserve, Syrah and the Chardonnay. I'm not a big red wine drinker, but the Chardonnay was great. The service was great - we were helped by the assistant manager (whose name escapes my mind) who was very friendly and a lot of fun. He even provided us with a couple of extra tastings when our bottles ran short. The atmosphere at Sequoia Grove is very serene and peaceful with the huge sequoia trees at the front of the winery. We were absolutely blown away and have since attended the food and wine pairing three times. Lisa is such a great hostess, very knowledgeable about the wines served (all wonderful single vineyard cabs), and makes the Tasting experience very enjoyable. Chef Britney does outstanding work pairing delicious and unique dishes with each of the wines served. As someone with a dietary restriction I really appreciated the care that went into a menu item that was prepared separately for me. It was not just thrown together, you could tell Chef put thought into creating a separate dish for me that would still pair well with the wine being served for the original dish. I should also mention that her plating techniques and the dish-ware used is picture worthy!! The wine was okay but honestly this is the worst treatment I have ever received with my friends at a winery. They were extremely rude and short with our group upon arrival despite us getting tastings as charcuterie boards. They skipped the second wine in our tasting set altogether until I brought it up and then were very rude about pouring the the last glasses of their Cab. At one point we had waited about 25 minutes in between a pour all with empty glasses despite there only being 4-5 tables total in their yard. We had barely a sip per pour and no one explained what wines we were getting or anything about the winery at all. Overall, I was super disappointed. I know we are young and not white, but we still are frequently Napa visitors. This trip ended on a sour note thanks to Sequoia and their staff. I took a trip to wine country over MLK weekend with Matt B. and our friend Mike K. We drank a lot of wine over two and a half days, starting with a visit to Sequoia Grove Winery, at the recommendation of our hotel's concierge. We were able to walk in, no problem, at around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. We had a nice, relaxing tasting to launch our decadent Napa weekend. The winery was lovely, with a calm tasting room and beautiful grounds. We took each of our pours out to the outdoor patio, which was quiet and surrounded by greenery. We had an hour and a half before we had to go to a 3:00 tasting, and the time just flew right by. There were two tastings on the menu, a $20 current release tasting and a $25 single vineyard tasting. We opted for the current releases, as there were four different wines--the 2014 Napa Valley Chardonnay, the 2014 Rebellious Red, the 2013 Stagecoach Vineyard Syrah, and the 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. These bottles were reasonably priced, ranging from $28 to $40, with discounts for club members. The single vineyard bottles were $95 and $100, and the tasting only featured the two of them. I enjoyed all of our wines, though I didn't end up taking any home (we were flying, and had plans to buy bottles at other vineyards throughout the weekend). The woman who helped us was extremely nice and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my time at Sequoia Grove. It was a pleasant first tasting, easy and leisurely. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a walk-in winery in this part of the valley. Definitely take advantage of the outdoor seating. read more

I had to write this review for one reason and one reason only, Vicki!!! I was so impressed with her personality and knowledge. I have NEVER had a better wine tasting experience. We were greeted instantly(no one else was there lol). From the moment Vicki cracked her first joke I was intrigued. We laughed, spoke about wine, and life advice. I don't have much to say as most wine tastings are pretty straightforward. To enjoy wine and great conversation was all I was after and I was very impressed that that's just what I got. When your in Napa go to Sequoia Grove and ask for Vicki. Great club benefits. I will visit again next time I'm in the Napa area. Sequoia Grove was my worst tasting experience during the past three years of wine tasting through the lower and upper valleys. I am sad to state that because their winery had a great presentation and their wines were diverse and unique tasting. However, my experience was ruined by a tasting bar employee with no customer service skills. Going into my appointment, I knew there could be an issue because the tasting was gifted to me and I rescheduled due to a last minute work issue. When I greeted the employee and asked to be checked in, she couldn't find my reservation. I asked her if it would be an issue because I was unsure how booked they were, but she cut me off and told me to find a place at the bar. My interactions with her became worse from there. At least she explained the wines, but she would walk off immediately, ignored questions, or exasperatedly responded to me. There were three parties (5-6 people) when I was there and they were mostly quiet and limited their interactions as well. Besides my interaction, I witnessed her argue with a reporter who visited with a friend. The reporter wrote about Sequoia Grove four years ago. I thought that it was telling that the writer returned, apparently it was glowing review and she asked about Sequoia Grove's food and wine tasting. The employee denied it existed at the winery even though Sequoia Grove's website states it serves a food and wine pairing. The employee also walked away from that group when they asked questions about the wine history and ignored them so another employee took over their tasting (lucky for them!). Near the end of my tasting, the employee appeared frustrated about not finding my reservation. She asked me to call the gifter, and I did, who sent me the email exchanges with the Sequoia Grove's customer service and told me they ordered something special. I thought they wanted me to pick them up a bottle, but they told me to forget about it since it became a hassle for the employee. I let the employee know that I was okay with paying the $30 and to not worry about the wine bottle or special request. The employee huffed and told me she would call her manager. My other party member felt really uncomfortable by how put out and rude that employee was becoming. We really wanted to pay and leave at that point. After speaking to her manager, the employee returned and confirmed that the gifter and I were correct about the reservation and special request. However, instead of apologizing or dropping the matter, she hurriedly grabbed a bottle of wine, put it in a bag, and shoved it into my face. Her parting words to us were "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth; it's 96 points." I do not know what warranted her response, but she clearly was having a bad day. My party member returned the wine to her, because we didn't want anything to do with Sequoia Grove at that point. I visited a lot of wineries but never experienced such terrible and unfounded behavior. The employee is a female with red hair and has been employed by Sequoia Grove for three years. I hope whatever is wrong in her life improves, or maybe it's time for her to leave the industry. I hope people visiting this lovely valley that I call home find other places to visit. There are so many wonderful, small production wineries that employ passionate and hard-working people who love the product they help create. Sequoia Grove is not an ideal example of this, in my opinion. Also, I want to shout out to their customer service employees who heard my complaint and offered a gift certificate. That was very sweet, but I won't waste my time on a place that treats customers like they are burdens. read more

This was one of the four wineries we visited in Napa. Sequoia Grove is absolutely an amazing spot to have a picnic. With a huge sequoia tree right in front of their entrance to the tasting room, sets for a cute little picturesque setting with a nice little mini patio for us to enjoy a bottle of their Chardonnay. And we sure did! So buttery and smooth, perfect to wash down our mid day meal. The ladies behind the counter were pleasant and helpful. The grounds were well kept and maintained. My husband & I stopped here on our way out of Napa, although it's not on the way out. It was the only winery I wanted to stop at that day. After reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp, I knew I had to give their wine a try. Upon entering the tasting room you are greeted by beautiful towering Sequoia (hence the name) trees surrounding a neat barn-like building. Our tasting host was a charming woman named Christi whom we laughed with the entire hour we spent there. Yes, we there for quite a while just tasting & talking to her. She assured me that all of the wine was very good & doesn't leave a wine hangover the next day - this peaked my interest as red wine can sometimes leave me feeling groggy the day after. As we jumped right in, I started with their 2013 Sauv Blanc which was light & easy to drink. I then moved on to the Rollicking Rose - loved it so much I bought a bottle. As I wanted to move onto their reds, Christi insisted that I try their Glorious Gewurz (Gewürztraminer). I explained that I'm not a fan of sweet wine, but upon her explaining that it really wasn't sweet and to give it a try, I found myself buying yet another bottle. It was unexpected to say the least. As I moved down the list of their reds I was noticing a trend, I liked them all. Some more fruit-forward, but they all seemed to be well-balanced. I loved their Cab Franc which is unusual as I tend not to like lighter wine & steer more toward the robust varietal. At this point I was progressing onto the reserve wine section which I didn't really want to being that the price tags were pretty high. I knew if I tasted something I loved that I'd be in trouble. After tasting the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Lamoreaux, I was in trouble! It was beyond. After all was said & done, I walked out with 5 bottles. Sequoia Grove was incredible all around. We did the Culinary Challenge Wine Experience at Sequoia Grove Winery and it was awesome! Dean, Sequoia Grove's wine educator taught us a lot. I loved seeing how food enhances or ruins wine. I am going to bring this up with my professors in wine studies. They talk more about cleaning our palate but not how to taste with food so this was an education. After learning about their wines and the five taste profiles that we experience (salt, sweet, bitter, sour and umami); they gave us grapes, a pinch of sea salt, and a piece of lemon to experience salt, sweet and sour (acid) with our wine. It was interesting which made the wine better and which made the wine worse. Each team was assigned a job to make a crustini that worked with the wine. I won't ruin it by telling you which you should pick, just do the culinary challenge and you will find out. We also tasted some wines. I liked the 2012 Historic Vines the best myself, though the 2011 Stagecoach was yummy too. They do a Taste for Cabernet (for up to 12 people) three times a day by appointment, which you can schedule online. We came here on a whim after a random recommendation by someone at a nearby table at another tasting. What a godsend. When we'd called ahead, they said they were booked for tastings but I guess near closing time they weren't that busy. The staff was lovely -- we wandered in and wanted to buy a bottle to enjoy out in the back. They just started pouring us wine after wine, with repeats, until we decided as a group what to get. This was the first winery that my wife and I joined. We've been members at Sequoia Grove for the past three years and this review is long overdue. To start off, we stumbled upon Sequoia by accident. Our day of wine tasting was coming to a close and we were looking for one more place to go. This is how we decided to try it: Me: What about that place? Jenn: Why not? We like trees. The small grove of trees that is next to Sequoia was not the only thing we loved. Despite it being 4:00 and close to closing, Jack chatted with us and made sure that we enjoyed everything. The wine is amazing. We loved all of them. Their Cab, the Rebellious Red which changes every year, the Stagecoach Syrah...all amazing and I look forward to every shipment. I could go on and on about all of the wine that I have had there but it's something that you have to taste. The member events are very fun. I took my wife there for their Valentine's celebration and we thoroughly enjoyed wood fire pizzas and desserts. The 4th of July BBQ has pulled pork sandwiches and other tasty veggies and treats. We have yet to attend the harvest party but it sounds amazing. Sequoia Grove is not the typical Napa winery; I feel like it belongs in Sonoma. What I mean by this is that the staff and environment is so incredibly welcoming. Sequoia is not only about tasting the wine and selling the wine. It's about enjoying the company your with, the memories you make, and, yes, the wine you taste. Every time my wife and I come in, they recognize us and ask us how we've been. What a gorgeous location! Who would've thought that right in the heart of wine country and acres of hilly vineyards is a secluded tasting room, enclosed with large Sequoia trees, a true grove! The wine here was absolutely wonderful. If I had the money to buy a case of their $90 Cabernet (s) I would do so in a heart beat - it made me want to channel my inner Olivia Pope! Definitely a cool place to bring out of town visitors who have certain expectations of the Napa County vineyards - something different for them, and be sure to point out the HUGE award winning pumpkin =) read more

Awesome place! We really loved Vikki who helped us. She was super sweet and helpful. This place was a little more quiet which was a nice contrast from some of the other tasting rooms. There was a $20 and a $30 tasting fee. I can't remember which one we did but it was waived if you bought three bottles of wine. The wine was affordable, starting around $20 and going up to $100+. They were also generous with the pours. They had some good 2008 and 2009 cabs and other really neat library wines from vines that have been on the estate since Napa was on the map. We tasted most of the wines inside at the tasting counter and then took the last glass to walk around the grounds. Really relaxing and enjoyable. Cheers! read more

What an amazing place! I finally was able to experience an amazing alternative to the standard tasting here. The wife and I have been members since 2012 and finally sat down and did A Taste for Cabernet! It seriously was an amazing experience for us and the friends that joined us. Dean did an amazing job and really made us think about our food choices while we are drinking a good Cab. If you are thinking about switching things up and want something a little different then I highly recommend you trying this tasting, you will not be disappointed. The tasting was relaxed, informative, and just fun. Once again one of my favorite places to taste wine as they always treat us like royalty! Also, if you are looking for an amazing wine club option I highly recommend Sequoia Grove, there wine club service is just amazing! read more

I love Sequoia Grove wines.. spending a few hours at the estate on a food and wine pairing with Dean was a phenomenal experience for us, and one which led me to appreciate wines even more - on a broader scale. Our experience was casual, unhurried and very educational. We sampled about 10 wines, including some from barrels and we also had a grand stand view of the grapes being sorted just outside the window of the room we were in. Dean stayed late with us and spoiled us with the attention to detail and answering our questions. The wine and food experience is smart, and although it puts some food and wine pairings in perspective, I also believe that the complexities of each wine and the meal as a whole still leaves tastes at a personal level and palate. The wines we tasted ranged from single vineyard cabernets to the winemaker's annual blend. each has a unique and beautiful taste and we were even privileged enough to taste the wine from the first growth of the vineyard that was planted about 7 years ago. The experience cemented my belief that this estate is well undervalued and has significant potential. i am stocking up on all their wines and will continue to build my vertical of many of their wines.
