Maya Angelou said people always remember how they made you feel. The front desk support is amazing the doctors are condescending and rude. I was told not to be late for my appointment or else I will be charged. Then the doctor was 10 minutes late for no reason as I was the first appointment. Then once she arrived, no apologies for being late, and condescending. The last few visits I left feeling terrible. I thought since we have been here for so long maybe it'll get better. We came 7 years ago because of a particular Dr. since he left it's been down hill. I should have followed my instincts. Will be looking for a new vet. read more

I was waiting to write this review for the longest time. I was hoping things would change, but unfortunately, they did not. We have been patients at this clinic for a long time, and for the first few years I had nothing but good things to say. I trusted this place completely. Whenever something was happening with our pets, I would come here and be met with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care for my fur babies. Unfortunately, the last two years have been a nightmare. It has gotten to the point where I feel stressed even thinking about coming in: whether for annual exams or anything else. One staff member in particular, Jennifer, has been consistently rude and passive-aggressive, with multiple incidents over time. On one occasion, she called me back and left a voicemail so rude that I still keep it because I was genuinely shocked someone in veterinary care would speak to a client that way. In that message, she stated that my kitten was "2 years old" and refused to prescribe kitten food because "you made a mistake, and she's not a kitten anymore." That information was incorrect: Ciri was still a kitten at the time, and the way this was communicated was unnecessarily harsh and dismissive. Another time, she made a condescending comment about me not purchasing the full box of Simparica Trio, implying that I would "likely miss a dose." The reality is that paying over $300 at once for six doses is not always feasible, especially when you have four pets, and choosing monthly purchases is a perfectly reasonable decision. Today was the breaking point. I called to ask for an estimate to spay my foster kitten. I was told, "$93 for the exam," followed by silence. When I clarified that I was asking specifically about the spay, the response was: "We won't discuss that until we see the cat." The dismissive tone and refusal to provide even a general estimate were extremely frustrating. I knew who I was talking with and because of my experiences from the past I literally said "Well, thank you" and hung up. There was also an earlier incident involving my cat's dental care. A veterinarian at this clinic recommended that my cat have his teeth cleaned. A week or two later, I called to ask for an estimate. I was told by the front desk staff that I would need to bring my cat in again for a check-in visit. When I explained that we had been there just days earlier, that this procedure was recommended by the doctor, and that I was not willing to pay for another exam visit simply to receive an estimate, I was told they would "check on it." After doing so, I was informed that the doctor who saw us at that time was not the veterinarian I am "assigned to," and that the estimate would need to be approved by the vet I was assigned to, even though I do not even know who that is at this point. This lack of clarity and continuity is incredibly frustrating. Beyond that, the continuity of care has significantly declined overall. In the past, we used to see the same veterinarians regularly. Over the last two years, it has been a different vet at nearly every visit. Both my dog and my cat were over-vaccinated for rabies on separate occasions. The first time this happened, I was not charged. The second time, I was charged for it. During one of these visits, I overheard a front desk staff member telling another that the vet seeing us that day "only had a couple of days left anyway, so she doesn't care." Hearing that was deeply disturbing. To be clear, there are wonderful people at this clinic. I truly love seeing Siobhan, and Dr. Liu is an excellent veterinarian whom I trust completely. I would gladly continue bringing my pets to her. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to work with either of them lately, which makes this situation even more disappointing. Before writing this review, I also reached out to the clinic privately via email, hoping to resolve these concerns directly. The only response I received was that my email would be forwarded to the practice manager. I never heard back from that person. I never imagined I would feel this way about a clinic I once trusted so deeply, but the repeated rudeness, lack of continuity, poor communication, and careless mistakes have made it impossible to ignore. read more

I'm writing this review after going here a couple of visits. Let me set the stage for you. I used to go to the Animal Pet Cove in Foster City before the original vet retired. Once Animal Pet Cove changed their lead vet, we didn't approve how our kitty was being treated. That put us back in the market looking for a trusted vet. I volunteer at the Homeless Cat Network, where I asked fellow volunteers where they go? One lady suggested Sequoia Vet Hospital, so I immediately put us on the waitlist, and was supper happy when we finally made it into their system. Bonus, I found out the cats from the shelter also go to Sequoia Vet Hospital for visits. Our kitty is now a senior and needs that special TLC. We're willing to pay, but don't want to be scammed. I never have this issue at SVH, they actually know what they're doing and give us great advice. Our vet is Dr. Sparks, she's amazing! With her, we've been able to diagnose and medicate a digestive issue that's common for senior kitties. To watch my cat going from miserable to bouncing back to her happy self, means the world to me. I've had positive experiences with Dr Terry and her staff here. The office is small but they do a good job keeping it tidy. I prefer female vets because the male ones I have today aren't warm to my pets, Dr Terry always greeted and pet my dog and the doctor I have today doesn't do that, interactions go a long way. I'll probably make the drive to see this office again I prefer the treatment here versus the doctors I have now for my pup. I never feel pressured into services or buying things here as I do in my vet today. The office is separated dogs on one side and cats on the other which I appreciate! read more

Our cats have been going to this vet for several years, mostly due to inertia. The vets are fine, but it's pretty expensive, and the main point of this review is that I'm VERY disappointed with this vet practice's customer service. We recently had an appointment canceled at the last minute, on a day my husband had taken off work to bring the cats in, because the vet was sick. Understand. Note that if PATIENTS cancel at the last minute, they are charged $50 for this. My husband rescheduled the appointment for a few weeks later, but as he was going to be out of town, he asked if our nanny could bring the cats in. The person on the phone said that was fine. Three of us were there when the appointment was scheduled and the date/time confirmed (me, my husband, our nanny), but when the nanny brought the cats in this morning, we were told that 1) the cats didn't have an appointment, and 2) our nanny wasn't allowed to bring the pets in without us signing an authorization form (which we had already done in the past, and by the way the person who said she could bring them in told my husband on the phone that would be fine). At this point, the front office should have bent over backwards to accommodate us, but we were told we could schedule ANOTHER appointment next week. So more time off work. We are leaving this vet practice, I hope we are able to find a vet with better customer service. read more

We brought our 8 week old puppy there for initial exam....all was reported ok. We asked that vet to deworm our puppy as that is what our breeder told us to do...she says not necessary. One week later, our puppy was seen again (diaherria)..that vet told us he will have problems as she could not find his balls.She also mentioned she does not like pure bred!!!!!...she scared us telling us he may get cancer soon....put him on Meds.(for the diaherria)...one week later back with diaherria, and asked that vet to please deworm him...she did and puppy was fine. We went there for final vaccine, and the tech dropped my 3 month old puppy!!!! They had told us to put our puppy on RX food...when we tried to get them to approve it thru Chewy....it took 4 days and counting!!!! Worst experience ever, and we have 4 dogs. Last few experiences with Sequoia have been pretty good. I see some low-rating reviews for Sequoia declining to take new patients, and this makes me sad because it's a low rating for a business that was never visited. From the flip side of things, I greatly appreciate Sequoia's continued commitment to longtime, loyal patients -- I've dealt with more than one dog business or vet that has been treating longtime customers like trash in lieu of courting new parents of pandemic puppies and making it near impossible to get vet care without ending up at an animal ER for far higher costs. For my dog's recent case of GI problems, I was able to get in a same-day appointment with his regular vet. His recent annual was also not difficult to schedule. My recent experiences the past 2 months with front desk have been better than earlier last year, not sure if some folks have changed hands or have been better trained lately. Things continue to be run as curbside service with respect to the pandemic but they seem to have this pretty organized the last 3 visits between May 2020 and now. Dr. Katie Liu has been my dog's vet and is reasonable and sensible, and is patient with answering my many questions and giving practical advice. Check in on Yelp and ask for the dental kit -- you get a cute toothbrush, a finger brush, and a sample of the recommended virbac enzymatic toothpaste which works pretty well to get rid of tartar from my dog's teeth. Only cons to me are that the pharmacy department can be occasionally hard to deal with (but once I talk to their vet directly, issues get settled) and the parking lot is small (especially with socially-distanced parking there's not a lot of spots). I used to have problems with locating this place using their address (apparently this address can belong to two different parts of Old County Road), so double check by punching in the address for Smiling Dogs which is next door. This place isn't the cheapest out there, but after my last dealings with other vets and dog services in the area, I would rather deal with a business that appears to be run right, at least from what I can see the past few years. I received a letter in the mail from office Manager Jenna Santos. Jenna essentially fired my dogs from coming back. Their vet had given my animals a shot that required a booster, I asked about that status - either provide the booster (my preference) - or refund the money for the shot. Jenna said they would be doing neither. She told me my dogs health is not her concern and they'll just have to live without the booster. This was my issue with the doctor who saw my dog initially: this clinic does not seem to care about the animals brought to them, and as you can tell by the office manager's attitude, this is a top down problem. My experience with them has been fairly atrocious. I'm grateful they showed me this now vs when my animals are super sick and need medical attention. read more

If you care about your pet, stay FAR FAR FAR away from this place. Poorly managed, insensitive, terrible front desk staff, and it appears that the vets only work part-time -- and I mean, barely. The senior vet, Dr Jorgensen may be good, but you'll never know because she's basically retired. The front desk staff couldn't care less if your pet is dying, they will tell you to go elsewhere if you expect to have your appointment request "approved" in less than two weeks. My guess is that the vets must work just enough to pay the front desk staff, who clearly will never get jobs elsewhere. Several of the reviews mention that the front desk people are rude. They are absolutely rude and condescending and not very knowledgeable. The clinic has a dermatologist who works one day a week and you have to send a special email to her assistant who lives out of state to request the privilege of maybe getting an appointment in two months. IF you're thinking, "wow, they must be good", no apparently they really are not. I asked around after my experience--not a great reputation. They started treating our dogs about 12 years ago, and our beloved 10 week old puppy who they came to know, Tazo, passed away Wednesday evening at home cradled in our arms. Although we moved to San Jose and saw a couple of different vets due to proximity, our 1st call yesterday morning was Sequoia Vet, whose Dr Bosse and Dr Terry, took great care of our dogs for years. They provided guidance, and most of all support in this difficult time and are arranging his cremation. There is no level of hurt that compares to what we are experiencing. The vets are great, I've had wonderful experiences with Dr. Whyte and Dr. bosse. The front desk staff on the other hand? I think some of them were hired from the DMV. Expect to be treated poorly including a healthy serving of attitude and a side of sarcasm. "We don't provide timelines to clients because we know we won't be able to make them. " -- Jennifer, when I asked what time I should drive over in rush hour traffic pick up a prescription for FOOD (requested 2 days earlier). By the way, this vet requires you to physically pick up a hand written prescription. That's right, don't expect to use chewy or any other reputable services unless you physically mail the copy via USPS to Louisville Ky, chewy HQ...which takes another few days to manually process. But don't worry, they have a convenient online pharmacy which they've "vetted". #ad?? They won't provide online services like chewy or petsmart with online prescriptions (or fax) because they haven't verified they're a reputable source. In my case, the $3 prescription canned food I was picking up from Sequoia was $3 a can. Not bad. Until suddenly it went up in price to $6 a can. I asked "when did the price increase" to which the front desk replied "probably sometime between your last purchase and now". Helpful! Oh and when you do get the lucky call to pick up your handwritten script "waiting for you at the front desk" expect to hear this while you patiently wait in line "sir/ma'am we're busy. Please have a seat and wait. We'll call you up when it's ready" And fun fact, while you sit and "patiently" wait for yet another call ... the lobby has no cell service. So you can awkwardly stare at the desk staff while they joke and mingle before turning to you and treating you like the scum they just collected in the last poop collection. This is a review of the Sequoia Vet. Hospital in San Carlos,Ca. Our 15 yr. old Yorkshire Terrier,Shasta, was diagnosed with acute kidney failure on May 4 2021. We struggled with trying to care for her with almost daily fluid injections on an out patient basis for 2and 1/2 weeks,until we came to the difficult decision of euthanasia. The staff made this decision much harder than it needed to be. On May 24,we began the process-First of all we told only one person could accompany Shasta to be with her in her final moments. My 84 yr.old husband would have to wait in the car. We were told this was their policy set by Dr. Jorgenson the boss. I told the staff that we had both been vaccinated and had the paper work to prove it,always wore our masks and had just seen our personal physicians for our yearly exams and had rceived a clean bill of health. All to no avail! We were shown to the special room entering thru side door and coming into contact with no one except Dr.Liu for a brief period of perhaps 4-5 minutes. Dr. Liu said she needed to take Shasta away for a few minutes and as I waited trying to control my tears,a staffer poked her head in the door and requested payment for the proceedure that had not even taken place yet.What in the world!! Highly inappropriate! I want to mention that our charges,thus far,amounted to approximately $2,ooo dollars and since we paid in full at each and every visit our balance was zero. I directed the staffer to the parking lot where my husband and credit card were waiting. I later learned that she had taken and returned his credit card but had neglected to provide him with a copy of the charges. I had to call a few days later and request an accounting be sent to us with the final charges for the last visit. Third issue and the most distressing of all,Dr. Liu returned with Shasta and placed her on the exam table,she gave her an injection and our poor little dog cried out in pain.I will never be able to erase that cry from my memory. When I was carrying Shasta into the vet.building I assured her everything would be O.K. and that she would not have to hurt any more. What a liar I was made out to be.Never,Never,in all of my 81 years and having 4 other pets euthanised have they ever cried out in pain,never even flinched when the final injection was given.They all died quietly and peacefully. I had never regretted all my other decisions regarding euthanasia. I knew it was the right thing to do.This awful experience has made me regret our decision for Shasta. Our poor,sweet little dog did not deserve this kind of treatment and neither did I. Finally after Shasta had been determined to have stopped breathing and was placed in the container that I had brought,Dr Liu left the room saying that I could stay as long as I wished. I replied that I would not be staying. No one came to help me with the sizable container holding my dear pet so I as an 81 year old woman with a broken left index finger decided to try and navigate 2 doors and a step on my own. I made it. Strange how earlier in this terrible process a staffer had been suddenly available to intrude on my grief to request advance payment ,but no one was available to help me carry my deceased pet out of the building. Really NOT impressed with this place at all. I waited until I switched to a new vet before writing this review. I adopted my pup just over a year ago and after doing extensive research on a clinic to bring her to, I decided on Sequoia Veterinary (I really wanted to be seen at Aragon but they weren't accepting new clients at the time). I've never really had a good experience at this place. The front desk staff can be very rude. When I would call in to fill a prescription or even email about something I would get a snarky reply or talked to like I'm stupid. The front desk staff act like they hate their jobs and definitely take it out on the clients. This right here is enough reason for me to find a new vet no matter how good the actual veterinarians are. I felt anxiety everytime I went in or called because I never knew how I would be treated. This place is also very expensive. I've spent thousands of dollars here in just a year and not for anything major. The costs of the exams and tests and vaccines really seem to add up QUICK here. Tests that I'm not sure were even completely necessary but I felt I had to agree to without fully knowing what I was agreeing to. The doctors are ok here. Honestly don't really have anything good or bad to say about them aside from making me feel like I was paying for unnecessary tests. Like I said, I decided to find a new vet and have been very pleased with them. In fact, you should check them out if you're here because you're also looking for a new vet. We have been taking our dog to Sequoia Veterinary Hospital for a few years starting when she was a puppy. We find some things good with this facility and some things that could use some improvement. The reason I am writing is in the hopes that the issues can be improved so we won't need to move to another pet hospital. The Pretty Good: Our dog has seen multiple vets and they all seem pretty good. We haven't had any major surgery or anything so can't comment as to their skill level, but they take time to answer questions and seem competent. The Okay: We usually have to wait a bit after check-in and rarely have been seen quickly, but it's not too bad of delay either from appointment time. The front area is spacious with good eating areas. The check out is not fast but not overly slow either, but just takes a bit of time. The Needs Improvement: The Vets are pretty nice and considerate. A couple of the front office, as mentioned in several posts from others, are not customer friendly at all. They have a tough job, no question. But the moment you question anything, they take a rather quick negative tone. Although my pet's care is most important and I can overlook someone's occasional bad day, this doesn't seem to be the exception with just one person. The Not Great: Get a shot, must schedule and get charged for an exam, get another shot, get and pay for another exam, need a prescription, exam. Have an issue get an exam of course, but oh, schedule a follow up exam. They require exams for everything and anything that take only 5-10 minutes and charge for full exam. We want to give so many kudos to the staff and especially our Vet, Dr Bossi! My husband has taken his pet for years! Now we are taking our French Bulldog Eclair to this amazing place! She just had her spay done yesterday and if you know this breed the procedure is a bit complicated than other breeds! Well she is doing amazing hardly any pain! But the big recognization is the compassion and love they have shown us and our pup! Dr Bossi called right after let us know how she did! The front staff is also so caring to these fur baby!! I think vets a lot of times get a bad rap. It can be a thankless job at times and they have to follow what administration lays out. I don't think others think about this much, but just like any job there will be politics especially during these trying times. I have been with Sequoia way before they changed ownership, I won't say how many years as that might give away my age. :) Since changing ownership, I will say I haven't always been thrilled with the service here, but I will say this, when they see things that could be better, they make those changes, and the vets they do have on staff are some of the best you will ever find!! The techs are the real unsung heroes. They really do this job out of their love and compassion for our furry loved ones. Today, I very sadly had to bring in my dog to have her put to sleep due to health reasons along with advanced age. The care, professionalism and compassion we received could not have gone any further. They now do allow two fully vaccinated individuals to go in, and this made all the difference for us. You can tell they have this process down to a science to make such a difficult time as easy as possible. Once again, I have to say THANK YOU SEQUOIA, and True THANK YOU to Dr. Terry and her staff. Angry that I drove almost an hour to get there but was 10 minutes late for appointment for my old dog and they told me I would have to reschedule...have been a client for 15 years. I appreciate that their time is valuable, but so is mine...I had to leave work in SF early to drive home, get the dog and drive all the way over there....very "arch" attitude on phone and at front desk. Dr. Terry at Sequoia Vet in San Carlos is an excellent veterinarian. She is very knowledgeable, caring, calm, and listens well. In our experience she tries the least invasive treatments first, and gives the pet parents choices, explaining the risks and benefits, as well as possible progression of treatments if one doesn't work. Our large dog has allergies, and there are several treatment options. The clinic calls regularly to see if the allergies are improving. The clinic staff are responsive as well, and the clinic is clean and organized. There is ample parking. read more

Hello again this is in response to the feedback from sequoia vet hospital on my original post, I would just like to clarify the Vet that we saw told us heart murmurs were abnormal for golden retrievers. She expressed her dislike for the breed in saying "heart murmurs/issues are not one of the many problems that are normal for golden retrievers". So your point about informing us about an issue within the breed seems to not address any part of my initial complaint . Also, I do not wish to speak to anyone as I am very happy with my current Vet. No justification for the problems in our visit is needed nor would be at all helpful. And I still feel the same way about my visit. My intention was, and still is to help others not have such a negative experience. I would also like to add that, while it is understandable to have a bad day as a Vet, that bad day should be left at the door. It becomes unprofessional when you displace your frustration on a client. Every new client should be treated with respect, and understanding. What you said is true, being a new puppy owner is stressful, which should not be exacerbated by a Veterinarian. I've been coming to this vets office for many years. The staff is really friendly and supportive. The vets are very good and seem to really care about you and your animals. I love Dr. Murphy. She just has a way of making you feel comfortable and make you not worry too much. Both Eva's at the front desk are awesome and know a ton about animals. My cats are very important to me and I wouldn't continue to come here if I didn't feel that they always want to do what's best for them. Saying "goodbye" is so difficult. So it's important to find a place like Sequoia, where they understand how important the little things are. I've been a client for 15 or 20 years, and they've always been good, but recently I had to make that most difficult decision. My 17 year old cat was able to pass quietly at home - after I had spent time discussing my options with the vet and staff. I hadn't expected to be heading in again so soon, but somehow I have TWO new kittens. And I'll be scheduling an appointment soon, hopefully the beginning of another long relationship. read more

I am really sad to only be rating 2 stars on Sequoia. I have been bringing my pup in there since she was 9 months old (she is 7 now) and I brought my grandmas cat in a time or two when she was in town visiting. Though I have had my fair share of rude encounters with some of the front desk staff in the past, I was always kind in response and just chalked it up to a bad day. I'm sorry to the kindhearted ladies at front the front desk who get a bad rep because of this. I am going to go into great detail as I've seen other reviews taken down for lack thereof. I am not surprised to see some bad reviews based on Jennifer's customer service as she is the sole reason I am writing this review. I called yesterday and left a voicemail with their pharmacy department requesting my pups dose of Nexguard. Jennifer returned my call with "Hi this is Jennifer with Sequoia, I got a weird voicemail from you." I was taken back by this as I didn't understand what was "weird" about my voicemail. Maybe it was me stumbling over my words because I get nervous talking on the phone? I'm not sure but it didn't feel professional at all. Following that she asked me if I would like to pick up six doses and in response I asked her how much six doses would cost. She very nonchalantly responded with "I have no idea". I'm guessing Jennifer's sales tactic is humiliation because she followed that quite snidely with "Well you last picked up beginning of April and you're just now asking for more at the end of May." She didn't forget to rudely mention the heart guard that is a new scrip my pup was recently put on and I tend to forget. I was so shocked and embarrassed I'm surprised I got through that phone call without hanging up. My pup doesn't have fleas year around, So when I see no sign of them I choose not to give her medication she doesn't need. If her professional opinion is that isn't the way to go, I would happily listen to her advice. What I won't listen to is snarky remarks. I felt extremely judged and like she couldn't be bothered to treat me with the respect I treated her with even though she was being rude. Needless to say, I won't be returning to Sequoia which hurts my heart because my fur baby was very comfortable there. I was humiliated enough to not even want to go pick up her medication today so she has an appointment elsewhere this afternoon. read more
