I came in here with super low expectations because being a plus size girl, I've been let down before many, many times over. I let the owner know this and she reassured me that I would most definitely be able to try on dresses with no problem at all. The selection of dresses were so beautiful. I got to try on so many different styles. I also had no idea what to expect in terms of price and the way they have their floor set up you don't even have to look at dresses out of your budget if you don't want to. They ask you up front what your budget is and go from there. Overall it was such an amazing experience. The owner really knows her stuff and has been doing this for YEARS. She truly made me feel so good about myself and reminded me throughout my time there that it is whatever I feel most beautiful in. There was a dress I loved but I wanted sleeves and the owner went and got all various types of sleeves and really made my vision come to life. We emailed and called weeks before to see if they had colorful, particular styles. Well, we are at the appointment and they certainly don't have what they said they had. Next, it's very hit or miss with what stylist you get. Ours was on her phone half the time. The co founder was doing an appointment, though, and engaged with hers. Overall, it seemed like a factory setting with little engagement as well as not having dresses they said they had. We felt catfished and we're grateful we had other places set. The instagram doesn't match what's actually available. Lastly, we wanted to ask the seamstress if a slit can be added. The lady said very rudely "not right now." So, if you want a comfortable, fun appointment don't go here. I'm sitting here watching so much cringe. No one should experience that for such a joyous time! This chair is all I could think about. Let me start by saying I would give Marissa 5 stars if I could split my review. Marissa was absolutely amazing in helping to find my dream dress! She was professional and so pleasant. She was just a breath of fresh air. She even asked the owner if they could sell me the dress that I tried on because it had just got there and no one had even tried it on yet. I literally only ended up needing a bustle and small hem, but otherwise no other alterations. 10/10 for Marissa. The in house tailor on the other hand, was the rudest woman I have ever encountered. She came in not professional at all. Very rude. Disrespectful. Tarnished the entire experience for me. Told me I needed a hem and asked about bustle and then on top of a $1500 dress, told me that her price would be around $750 which is ridiculous. It didn't even need actual alterations because my dress fit perfectly. I took my dress and left. For one of the best days finding my dress, she would ruin the atmosphere with her disgraceful disposition. I would NEVER go back there nor send anyone there for alterations. Buy your dress and take it with you. Do NOT let the in house tailor touch your dress. Just save yourself an experience. 0/10 stars. If I could give negative stars for her, I would. I ended up finding a life saver- Sarah's Tailoring in Waldorf and she proceeded to only charge me $375 and have it done in 2 weeks. Her work is exceptional. She is a literal angel. I was so happy with my dress initially but hated it on my wedding day. When I initially picked my dress, I was advised by the owner that custom measurements would be best so that the dress could be tailored to my shape. In my opinion, the only thing I needed was a bigger built in bra, but I listened to the expert and went with a custom dress. Went for my first fitting after the dress arrived and it was at least two sizes too big. The dress was literally falling off of me. How could this be possible with custom measurements? I'm not sure if this was a ploy to get me to spend more money or if they really just screwed up my measurements. The seamstress took my measurements again and the dress needed to be takin in 6 inches. I asked for the dress to be takin in as much as possible considering how big it was. Went for my second fitting after alterations, and the dress was still too lose in the waist and bust. I was not happy and asked for it to be taken in more. Of course I was advised that no additional alterations could be done without ruining the dress. I honestly think she just didn't want to do it. By this time, I had spent $$$ in alterations and had less than 1 week before I left town for my wedding. The day of my wedding, the bust area was so big and had no support. My breast were sagging and bouncing around with every movement. The weight of my breast was literally causing the material to fold over. That's how lose it was. This ruined my day. I didn't want to dance or take pictures. I was so self conscious of how I looked in my dress. I couldn't enjoy the moment. I could cry every time I look at my pictures. It was horrible to say the least. I was promised that my dress would be altered by the best but I regret not going somewhere else. I'm sad that I cannot get this day back. Below are pictures. The first pictures are of my initially try on in the bridal shop. Also, the day I said yes to the dress. The dress fit perfectly fine except the built in bra cup was too small. No cleavage and my tattoo is barely exposed. I thought this was a nice classy dress and therefore I purchased it. The last two pictures are on my wedding day. The bust area was extremely big and did not support my breast. My entire chest is exposed, all of my cleavage is out and you can see my tattoo fully. This was not the look I wanted. The alterations were done horribly wrong. Two different looks in the same dress. How after spending hundres of dollars in alterations? I'm not sure if I would still recommend this bridal shop. If you want to feel like a queen when searching for the perfect wedding gown, then Serendipity Bridal is the place for you. I had an one-of-a-kind experience from my first try on to last dress fitting at this chic boutique. The customer service was profound, and my family became fond of the store owner, Janice, and her kind family.   I tried a few gown stores before my first session with Janice, and I can honestly say nothing compared to the service I was given at Serendipity. When I first arrived, I had a sit-down consultation with one of the members of the boutique. My mother and I were served with water and treats for our convenience. I was then asked what style I envisioned for my gown and was quickly shown to their showroom of dresses. I was then escorted to the try on area which was set up with a robe and a board that read "It's Your Day! Shannan". These details of personalized services made this gown try on experience distinctive than the others. Serendipity's glamour and charm gave me a sense of bridal bliss before trying on a gown. I said "Yes" to the dress on the second gown I tried on and up until that moment, I never felt more like a bride.   I was very gratified with my service that I reached out to Serendipity in regard to a fitting for my husband and his groomsmen for tuxes. My husband has very particular taste and could not find the tux jacket that matched his criteria at other suite specialty shops. Janice was able to find a tux that he preferred and an additional tux jacket for the rehearsal dinner within minutes of me bringing the search to her team. Shortly after finding his tux, the entire groomsmen party, including my own father was fitted for their suits. One groomsman was out of state during the fitting. To accommodate him, Janice was able to take his measurements over the phone. The tux was then shipped to his location for his convenience.   Our wedding date was September 6th, 2020, although our wedding was perfect, we did have the effects of the pandemic whilst planning for our big day. One thing we did not have to worry about was our final fittings leading up to our wedding. Janice and her team were in contact with myself and my husband throughout the shutdown. We received updates notifying me of my gown arrival, which I then scheduled a fitting appointment for. Once the shop was open from the quarantine my mother and I were greeted by a Serendipity Representative to do a temperature screening. Upon our entry into the boutique, we were then met with soap and a warm hand towel to sanitize. This was a much better alternative to antibacterial gel for each client's utilization. The luxury of using hand towels gave us a prestige experience while securing our comfort of sanitization.   Overall, my family could not be more content with the service we had at Serendipities Bridal. It was a pleasure to become acquainted with the wonderful staff. My husband and I are in the hopes of celebrating our 10-year anniversary with another ceremony. I know where I will look first for my gown. I look forward to working with this elegant and refined bridal boutique in the future. read more

If I could give 6 stars I would. Serendipity was the 3rd bridal store I visited in homes of finding my dress. Before I scheduled my appointment there, I already had a dress in mind but was looking for a better price on it. I did end up finding another boutique that had the dress for slightly cheaper than Serendipity did, BUT the customer service I received over the phone when initially calling about their inventory was superb so I HAD to book with them instead. First off, their building is absolutely gorgeous. It's tastefully decorated, clean, well kept, very organized. and spacious. Second, it's a one-stop shop! They offer so many services to get your wedding planning done. Now, onto my actual appointment. I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Jessica. She knew I had come looking for a specific dress so she pulled that off the rack and asked if I wanted to try on any others, whether they were of similar style or not. Since we had driven an hour and a half to get there, and I will probably never have a reason to go wedding dress shopping again, I said why not. Let me just say that I am SO glad and grateful I did because Jessica found an even more perfect dress than the one I originally wanted. After I said yes to the dress, she let me know that the dress came in a few color options. The dress I had tried on and fallen in love with had the champagne underlay but I was curious to see what it would look like with an ivory underlay. Without hesitation, Jessica pulled an ivory skirt and clipped it under the tulle of my dress - this made making a decision so easy. We continued on to get measurements, she explained what the rest of the order process would be like, and offered a champagne congratulations if we wanted it (we had to decline because I was in a rush to get back home but loved this touch). Jessica was so much fun to work with. She was thorough, she was opinionated enough without being pushy or swaying me in any direction, she was extremely kind, and had so much enthusiasm. It was definitely worth the trip to Serendipity and I would highly recommend any bride work with their team, especially Jessica, if they have the chance. read more

Took it to her sentries and came to find out it was a used dress that had cake and wine all over it. My poor mother was in tears!! UNACCEPTABLE!! Two: - my wedding dress. Never get alterations here. You will not get your dress till the day of your wedding. Remind you I bought my wedding dress one year before my wedding. I was well prepared . They had my dress for 8 months!!! Was in there several times and still they refused to listen on what I wanted my dress to look like.(all I wanted was alterations and even the alterations lady from serendipity said "easy after I got extremely upset requesting for the sentries)I paid $600 for them to do what I requested but Janice refused to do it!! Said it would be to hard!! They finally finished my alterations the day before my wedding. My wedding dress experience was not fun. They stressed me out even more having me crying in front of my friends and mom. UNACCEPTABLE!! -they also ordered wrong color veil. Also got that day of wedding. So yes. Beautiful wedding dresses. It was sadly my 2nd attempt at dress shopping & they found my dream dress but also went above & beyond to ensure I felt like I was making the right choice due to my 1st dress just wasn't for me from a different shop. Jessica pulled more then enough options for me even after I knew I found the one JUST to make sure. I have also been making appointments for my bridesmaids, MOB, & MOG to get their dresses and the staff has been nothing but wonderful & has provided me with the best customer service I have had in a while. I do not recommend Serendipity Bridal in La Plata, Maryland. I'm very laid back and realistic in my expectations. Here's my personal experience. 1) Poor customer service: no surprise as the owner Janice lacks customer service skills herself. She was "too busy" to call me after several requests (over days) to discuss my experience at her store. This was especially concerning as it was only a week prior to my wedding. In the end, I never recieved call. 2) Their "top" seamstress Oksana is rude, unfriendly, and produced sloppy work. She huffed and puffed, slammed scissors on the table, and only showed me sloppy work. She did not do the things we discussed at my first fitting with exception of general dress alterations (taking dress in). I was appalled by her attitude. When I shared this with Janice, she emailed me (b/c she was too busy to call) and said: "Regarding Oksana's disposition, she does get defensive regarding her work. She is a perfectionist. I am deeply sorry." Oksana's attitude is unacceptable and for Janice to try to validate it by making a statement about her supposed perfection is ridiculous. I'll also note that Oksana admitted she did not do the things we agreed to in my alterations appointment and she told me to get a refund. Even her word wasn't honored. 3) After you purchase your dress, don't expect anyone to assist you in the dressing room with zipping up your dress, hooking straps, or helping to take out/put in the garment bag. And if you have any issues and approach the front desk, don't expect any welcoming faces or even to be addressed unless you speak up first. 4) Jess who was my sales rep was not very knowledgeable nor went the extra mile to get answers to my questions or call me when she said she would. She was aware of what was discussed with Oksana during my first fitting but after expressing my disappointment when those items were not done, she didn't speak up on my behalf to right the wrong. Instead tried to tell me that everything not done was going to be done at a later appointment... (see my note above as Oksana and I were on same page). In summary, the main reason I ended up going with Serendipity was location. Second reason was more dress options/ boutique experience. In the end, I did not get the experience or quality that I wanted and deserved. Read reviews and do your own research. Finding your dream dress such be a special experience from start to finish, not just at the start. read more

The dresses are expensive while the quality is incredibly poor (Belsoie), THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVEN WORSE! You would be better suited by choosing any department store than coming to this little shop of horrors. As a member of my friends bridal party we arrived on time with an appointment. The service was horrible. We ran over our appointment due to their lack of assistance and then they became impatient with us. This should have been our first clue not to purchase our bridesmaid dresses at the shop but we did anyways. The bride had gotten her dress here and they offered a small discount - trust me it is not worth it! Every one of the six dresses ordered had major issues. The dresses hardly fit - some were way too tight and some were way too big. Each one of us fully expected to have alterations needed but these dresses required complete overhauls. When I called to discuss what options I had due to their failure to order the appropriate size dress - the owner, Janice - had an incredibly nasty attitude. After several irritating phone conversations and a trip back into the shop they were unable to deny their mistake and begrudgingly agreed to fix the issue by altering the dress free of charge. When it was returned to me two weeks later the dress still didn't fit and even worse they screwed up the seam along the back causing unsightly puckering (pictured). I was too frustrated and busy to continue to deal with Serendipity that I just took the dress and brought it to my local seamstress who did the best that she could. If its too late and you have to get a dress from here be sure to get it altered elsewhere. They do a poor job and from what some of the girls overheard at the shop it sounds like they may miss their wedding day deadlines. What a nightmare! read more

She was dismissive, so I decided to leave versus look at the small selection of dresses. I have a friend who swears by this place, so I gave it a try. No more tries. I had an absolutely incredible shopping experience at Serendipity. Beth was just amazing. I started with an idea of what I wanted and decided to go in an entirely different direction. Beth knew just what to do and pulled some amazing dresses until we found the one. I told her what parts of my body I was self conscious about and what I wanted to showcase and we found a dress that was practically made for me. I was nervous that sample sizes wouldn't fit me but I actually ended up ordering the sample size because it was perfect. They had a huge selection for me to try on. When my entourage got a little chaotic, Beth and the owner were so attentive to what I needed. I knew I wanted to get my dress here after that. I never felt rushed or pressured to decide, even when I went back and forth on the dress and asked her to pull more only to not try them on in the end. Once I decided, I was measured three times to make sure everyone's numbers matched and I got to read everything slowly and carefully before signing anything. I had Ashleigh help me find my dress. I currently live in San Diego and decided to stop in Serendipity while I was in town to give my mom and grandmother the experience of me trying dresses on. I had all intentions in only playing dress up. Ashleigh listened closely to what I was looking for and made suggestions according to my body type. She ended up putting me in a dress and veil that I absolutely fell in love with. I said yes to the dress with Serendipity. Fast forward to my actual wedding, when I went to pick up my dress, I was told that my veil and all would be steamed by them free of charge before my wedding date. I call to schedule my drop off and they all of a sudden catch amnesia and said it's a $50 charge and the lady that helped me, Beth, "was on travel". Also what was said was "well if money is such an issue, we will do it free this ONE time". First off, I spent a lot of money on my dress and it's 100% unacceptable that once they have my money for the purchase, good customer service is over. A bride is already spending a lot of money for a dress to have to pay for steaming also. All other bridal shops I visited had free steaming as well. I'm not sure if they just thought that I'd forget or if I'm being treated like this because I'm an out of town bride. My consultant was amazing but she no longer works there. Definitely not what someone needs right before they are about to get married. There was no I'm sorry for the confusion or anything. I'm traveling from across the country to get married and am dealing with this bridal shop that already does not have good reviews due to their customer service but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Janice greeted me and my parents, and took us on a brief tour of the place. I am a size 12 in street clothes, and I had the whole store to choose from! Jessica, Janice's daughter, was my consultant. When picking dresses, I felt like Jessica was reading my mind! She picked out styles that I loved! I tried on probably 8 dresses, and all of them were so beautiful and complimented my figure. The two visions were very different however because of the wide selection of gowns, each found exactly what they were hoping for. These gals are very patient too. The first try for my youngest was not successful despite contacting the designer to combine to silhouettes into one gown. She took some time to reset in her mind what she wanted and started with a clean slate. Jess listened and found the perfect gown meeting all the basic requirements: nod to history, twirl ability, regal neck line with low key glitz. Janice and Jessica designed and executed the first wedding venue into a winter wonder land. No detail was spared-floral features with complementing table settings, snowflakes projected on the dance floor, fog, snow....wow amazing. I have to agree with the complaints already listed here. I thought since we were paying more, we would receive better service, but I was definitely wrong. I lost 20 pounds after I was measured for my bridesmaid dress & needless to say I was shocked to find that my dress barely zipped when it came in. After trying to discuss this with their seamstress I was told that I just didn't understand how formal wear was supposed to fit. After I expressed concern that my dress surely wouldn't have fit if I hadn't happened to lose weight, I was told that it was a good thing that I had lost weight! Everyone else in the bridal party had issues with their dresses not fitting one way or another & were also treated poorly. Just unbelievable "customer service"! My advice is to go to the discount chain in Waldorf, you'll pay less & be treated better. read more

Janice and her team were such a pleasure to work with. I finally found THE dress after trying 2 other bridal shops prior to visiting Serendipity! I am so glad I came to Serendipity, they're all so nice and friendly and really listen to your likes and dislikes while trying on dresses. The appointments are 2 hours long which gives you an ample amount of time to try on dresses. Most places only allow you an hour which feels rushed. I was unaware of all the services Serendipity provides, they have suites you can rent or buy, mother of the bride dresses, bridesmaid dresses and they even can help you make your save the dates or invitations. They also have a room upstairs which is gorgeous that you can rent for a bridal shower, birthday parties, etc.. I highly suggest visiting Serendipity for all of your wedding needs! read more

I am so glad that I didn't have to go into the city to get great customer service and/or designs. Serendipty didn't carry Sophia Tolli, which was the designer I originally wanted. However, I found and equally beautiful dress with the help of Beth. The store is small but had various designs and even more options in the back. Even though I had 4 months to go, Janice worked to make sure my dress arrived on time and the alterations completed within two weeks of us leaving to our destination wedding. I disagree completely. I hate dresses so I was very nervous to look for my wedding dress. I didn't think I'd like anything. I hated all dresses from other places. They consulted with me and pinpointed what they thought I was going for. They pulled a few like that and then had my Entourage all pull a dress they thought I'd like. I fell madly in love with one dress by Casablanca but even the ones I hated I felt beautiful in because the staff was so excited and complementary. I walked in prepared to buy a dress that day, if possible, and was greeted with a grouchy, "What's up?" Looking at the wedding dresses around me, I replied, "I'm shopping for a wedding dress." The employee replied, "Obviously..." I had first checked the website and the door of the business to see if their services were by appointment only, and they are not. I figured I could browse and schedule a consultation for later that day or the next day or two if I found some dresses I was interested in. This was offered to me through gritted teeth, but I decided to walk out after the sales woman (possibly the owner) told me that I should not pull the dresses, which are openly hanging on display, because "they are difficult to put back in." I double checked the mirror to make sure I wasn't dressed in rags with chocolate-covered hands. Where shall I start . I went to serendipity to purchase a wedding dress . I came in initially with a budget that they did meet . I did not want to spend an average price for a dress so I ended going to the clearance rack. I did find the dress I wanted but their was a tear in the back. They claimed because it was on the clearance rack it is an "as is " garment. They told me that I would have to pay for it to get fixed or take it "as is". They also said that they are not a big brand like David's Bridal so they can not fix the dress for free due to they are a small boutique store . I was in a bind due to getting married in 4 days from my initial visit so I told them to speak with the seamstress to find out the cost and hold it for me . They called me the next day to tell me that the seamstress was able to fix it . I came in to pick it up & they stated the seamstress is going to charge $150.00 for it to be fixed . They never quoted a price for the alterations they just went ahead & fixed it. I was stuck due to I was getting married in 3 days and I didn't want to risk going anywhere else. The entire time I was wondering why do I have to pay for a rip that was made prior to me coming in but I was told if I didn't agree they would rip the dress and then I can pay the original clearance price. The sales women that did assist for the purchase told me "it's still under your budget anyway ". The whole entire time they were trying to get as much money out of me as they could. I did get the dress but I highly recommend going someplace else that is not going to charge for stuff that they did . Prior to going to Serendipity, I visited countless bridal gown shops in Northern Virginia and Washington DC. I believe I tried on at least 40-50 gowns before deciding to travel to La Plata, MD (where I grew up but no longer live) to see what they had to offer. I wish, in hindsight, I just went to Serendipity in the first place. I was unable to find a dress I even remotely liked prior to Serendipity, but I was able to easily have three top contenders for gowns on my first visit there (their selection is incredible!). When I expressed my love for a dress I found online but was unable to find in person to try on (after calling more than 15 shops), Janice went well out of her way to help me track it down and had it shipped to the store for a small charge.. and of course, it was the dress I fell in love with and purchased immediately. I am exceptionally thankful to Janice and Jessica for helping ensure I walked down the aisle in a gown I loved. Debbie, the seamstress that completed my alterations, was very professional and skilled. She was able to create a custom bustle to showcase the lace on my hem very beautifully. read more

Back in 2012 I visited the old location while shopping for a prom dress. Here in 2019 I visited looking for my wedding dress, and I found it! Beth was wonderful. I tried on a total of four dresses before finding "the one", and it wasn't even a style I thought I wanted, but one Beth suggested for me to try and I'm so glad she did! I cried, mom cried, the whole thing Personally, I was on the lower budget end of their dresses (under $1000) but I was surprised and happy to find there was still a wide selection available to me. When buying a bridesmaids dress, please do not purchase here. After buying a dress that was over $300, I received a dress that could've been purchased from JC Penney for far less. I live out of town and after the dress taking more than a month longer than we were told it would take, I got a dress that was severely lacking in quality. I tried to talk with Janice to get information for the manufacturer which she continually ignored and only answered to things she wanted to answer. I'm an thoroughly displeased with the service I received from them. Thankfully I found a tailor here who was able to fix the problems with my dress. There was a tag on my dress when I got it from UPS that said it had been inspected and it obviously had not been. Do not spend your money here. read more

Dress selections are nice and consultants Beth and Jennifer are very accommodating HOWEVER please DO NOT get ANY alterations done here. The seamstress is absolutely incompetent. After 5 fittings, my mom and I were very uncomfortable with the quality of work that was done and we were forced to take the dress to a friend who is a bridal seamstress. She was appalled at the quality of work she found especially considering how much we paid for the supposed "alterations package" which cost $499. The dress had to be hemmed AGAIN another 1.5 inches (I was told by Serendipity to wear to wear a 2 inch heel but luckily I ended up getting a 3 inch heel)...the hem charge was $120 at Serendipity not included in the seamstress package. Also not included in this package were cups that were tacked into the top of the dress and were recommended by the seamstress because the top was too big. I had to request her to cut them out because they were way too big on me and the top had not been fitted to my body. The cups cost around $130 which was also not included in the package. The bustle is also not included in the package and cost around $200. The buttons on my dress were falling off since the first fitting and I mentioned every time that they needed to be reinforced but each fitting more buttons would come off. When we finally took the dress to our new seamstress she had to open the entire seam on both sides and actually take it out so she could to re-align the entire front of the dress because it was not even sitting properly. She also had to cut and patch the arm area because it had been pulled so tight that it was cutting into my arm. The fact that she had to take the seams out everywhere is ironic because the owner Jessica had mentioned in a previous phone call that maybe I was losing weight which was an excuse for the multiple fittings. Above all, I wouldn't want anyone to deal with this during such an exciting time.The seamstress should be upfront with the customer about expectations with the dress and know how it is supposed to look. My mom sent an email a few weeks ago expressing her dissatisfaction with the process and has yet to hear anything back. A follow up call or email would have been a professional gesture knowing what had happened. read more

Walked in with my wife. We are looking for information and possible contracting someone for our son's wedding.Lady behind the desk was on the phone, and didn't even acknowledge our entrance. A few seconds later picked up her finger and basically said wait one minute without saying one word. Never spoke to even check on us. Stood on the phone while we walked around. We just left. So, getting my actual dress from here was painless. But I was not at all impressed with alterations. The seamstress was rude. I do not feel like she altered anything really and it was expensive for the little bit of nip and tuck that i needed. I was too tired to go anywhere else, since i got my dress from here. But do a little research before you consider getting your alterations here. I hear there is a good seamstress in Fort Washington and surrounding areas of La Plata. read more
