We had to call serene Passages because our little dog Max (age 12) was so sick and we found out he had an inoperable tumor in his stomach. We had used them a year and a half ago for our other dog(age 13) when she could no longer go on after 3 years of being treated for heart failure. It is such a difficult call to make while crying the whole time, but they are so wonderful and understanding. The Vet that came to our home, Dr. Ramirez, was kind and compassionate as was Dr. Nicole last time. She helped us during the hard goodbye and helped make Max comfortable while crossing over that rainbow bridge. I dealt with a guy named Don. seemed pleasant enough and kind at first. We have a 17 y/0 cat that was at the end. We wanted a vet to come to the house to put her down on my wife's loving lap. Don sent the aggrement and I filled it out and sent it back to be done at the house at 9:30 on this Thursday. it took multiple calls to confirm only to find out that the res of this week was booked. leaving our cat and family in agony. Thank God we found another vet that we have to travel to for a short distance but can still be done on my wife's lap in the back of their surgical truck. I can't even begin to express to you how pleasant Dr. Nicole (and Don) can make the horrible experience of a passing of a beloved pet be. Our Joey, an almost 10 year old Golden Retriever- the 4th golden we've lost in 11 years, had lumps on his chest cavity that in the 3 weeks had grown to twice their size, and was experiencing debilitating pain. It was no doubt cancer. We thought last night we were going to have to take him down to the emergency vet hospital, but we gave him another 1/2 dose of the Rimadyl he was prescribed to hopefully get him through the night until we could make better choices, and it helped. The horrible thought of trying to get him in the car, unloading him at the hospital, and the wait at the hospital was completely unbearable from past experiences. After all, Joey gave much of himself to us and everyone who knew him including his 2-3 years as a Certified Therapy dog, and he deserved the respect and dignity of a proper process. We came across Serene Passages this morning. From the first call with Don to putting Joey in Dr. Nicole's car, the care, love, concern, and well-being for Joey was nothing but exceptional. She explained EVERY detail of the process- down to why she was gently squeezing his paw pads after the comfort injection (to make sure he was well sedated). She knew every nuance of how he would respond to the medication and it was like clockwork. She was truly a master at keeping us informed and Joey as comfortable as he could be. We had never used an in-home service before, but I wish we had and will definitely keep Serene Passages in mind- we still have two other Goldens.
