My mom, sister and I come here often for our pedicures. We've even brought our dad here before and the service is usually nice polite and great quality. You even get a complimentary drink with your service. However, I was not pleased with an interaction I had yesterday when trying to get a manicure/pedicure. There is normally a man that works the front desk, schedules appointments, handles flow, discusses rewards points, makes drinks, etc and he is always wonderful. However, yesterday there was a woman there who was extremely rude. We were scheduled for 3 pedicures but my mom and I decided to get manicures after we arrived which my sister informed the front desk of and they said okay. When the technician was doing my pedicure, she asked if I was also getting a manicure and I said yes and after my pedicure was done she pointed me towards the manicure station to sit down. The lady from the front desk came up to me quickly while I was putting my shoes on and told me "you only booked a pedicure, you did not book a manicure so you'll have to wait" in a pretty rude tone. There were only 2 people waiting who already had techs assigned to them. I tipped my technician (who looked extremely uncomfortable after being told by the lady that she was not to do my manicure) and left feeling really uncomfortable for being berated about a manicure. I will return but I am hoping she will not be working the front desk next time or works on her communication with customers. The salon was really nice, one complimentary drink is a good touch. However my gel pedicure was less than ideal. I sat down and wasn't asked which pedicure I wanted, when the person next to me got handed a menu to choose from so I guess I just got the basic. The color I picked wasn't available, so I picked the next best thing and was looking for "shimmery white." The polish looked white in the bottle but was actually more gold on the toes which is not at all what I wanted. The tech did not wipe down the nails before the gel after the "massage" portion (which was barely done) so I think they are going to lift from the leftover oil. The application itself is messy and uneven, and there was polish on my actual toes. He also kept bumping my big toes with the gel light so there are marks from that. Overall Serenity Nail Lounge is a very clean and beautifully decorated nail spa. Every employee I interacted with was pretty friendly and welcoming. They have an extensive list of complimentary beverages which is pretty nice. I just got a basic manicure on my natural nails that I've been working to grow out; I mainly needed my cuticles and the surrounding skin taken care of as I'm not good at that. My tech did a decent job, some spots could've used a little more work. Unfortunately my rating is so low because the filing of my nails was ALL over the place. Almost half of my nails were crooked, and the edges of some were still rough and jagged. I came home and immediately had to refile almost all of them. So I just left here after receiving a subpar pedicure and I spent $75. I enjoyed the process of the pedicure up until the point that I asked for acrylic on my big toes and the tech was very friendly, but I personally felt like the shape of my toenails could've been better. In fact he didn't even ask me what shape I wanted luckily, he picked the shape that I prefer, but ended up over filing them to the point where my toenails look like fingernails and then once it came time to pay the tech and the owner, I'm assuming our manager we're both going back-and-forth. And they came up with a price of $75 so now I'm left to assume since they didn't ask for a tip or even hand me a receipt that he just gave himself a $10 tip??? to me. I feel like that's low-key discrimination because I am a black female. I would've tipped him definitely not $10 because I'm not super happy with the result but I feel like it's highly offensive to just add your own tip to my bill. And this has been happening to me a lot lately when I go places, and I am very tired of the assumption that I'm not going to tip when I myself and my former service worker SMH I won't be back. read more
