I love this place! I called ahead to see if they would take my party of 5 for my engagement party. They said yes and we all came in for manicures and pedicures. Kelly did mine especially for my engagement and I could not have asked for a more beautiful job. My fiance got a mani pedi as well and he's looking pretty fabulous. I really liked this place at first. Sure, the prices are higher than what I'd normally pay (e.g. pedicure is $27), but I was able to justify paying a premium based on the experience received. They would offer me beverages, provide a fuzzy blanket during pedicures, and a heated neck/shoulder wrap during my manicures. The massage during my pedicure that Jason gave was out of this world. The decor is wonderful and welcoming, and everyone is very nice. Their gel manicures are good (polish selection could be better). I soon became a regular. That's when things started going downhill. Beverages were no longer offered to me. My pedicures no longer included a blanket, no more neck/shoulder wraps. No extras, same higher prices. What really did me in was when I was there for a gel mani/pedi as a regular, at the same time as a brand new customer. This customer had Jason perform her pedicure with an outstanding massage. My pedicure performed by a different tech and it was mediocre at best. The massage was more like a rub down of my calves. Severely disappointing considering I was paying more for a below average pedicure. Moving onto the mani - this same new customer received not one but TWO shoulder massages during her manicure. I received ZERO. She was offered something to drink - I had to ask for it. Seriously? They pull out all the bells and whistles to loop in new customers, without any regard for their repeat customers. If you're a new customer looking for a great ambiance and little extras (for an extra price), this is your place. As for me? I've moved along to a different salon that takes cares of all customers - repeat and new. read more

I just went to Serenity Nails and Spa for the first time today. I got a regular pedicure and was very, very happy with my service. The prices are very reasonable! Kim was my technician and she did a wonderful job! She took her time and I loved the bath salts added to the water and the scrub she used to exfoliate my feet and calves. After she finished the pedicure, she took me to their nail drying station-- for both hands and feet-- and gave me a short neck and shoulder massage. There is a drink station, but Kim did not offer me drink. This is why they didn't get a fifth star. I definitely plan to go back! But this time with an appointment. I was able to be seen right away (without an appointment), but it was a Monday afternoon. I could see an appointment being really important on the weekend, evening, or busy time. read more

Got a recommendation from a friend to try this place. I was told Eric was the man to give you a great pedicure. He gives the best foot massage... ok I went and immediately I was smothered by the front desk lady. She convinced me to get a spa pedicure, because Eric was a massuse and it was the best! Good job by Eric, nice pedicure and massage. But then he ruined it! I asked to sit and dry on the seat and he said, no you get a massage. Ok, I thought wow what a treat to get a massage with pedicure. He asked me how many minutes would I like?? I asked, is this part of the pedicure, he said "NO". He said i will give you 10 minutes. Midway thru the massage, I asked what do you normally charge for massage. He said, $15 for 10 min. I thought ok, they were throwing it in as a special welcome, because they knew it was my first time there. I go to pay, and she says $70 the message was not free and I definitely did not ask for one. I had just been DUPED. I am not saying Eric is not good, I am saying I was tricked into paying for something I did not want, or ask for. So needless to say, I will not be returning to a place that manipulates it's customers. Especially a new one who would have been a regular. Serenity Nails is a nice addition to Montville. It is immaculate and everything is brand new. Its decorated very cute. The staff are all extremely friendly, everyone greeted me when I walked in. They have a complimentary drink menu, so you can enjoy a beverage while you get pampered. I only came in for a pedicure and Jason worked on me, he gives one mean foot massage. If I do decide to come back, I will be requesting him again. Their pedicure chairs are definitely top of the line, they are large and comfy and the automated massage the chair gives is actually pretty good. Kim (who I believe is the owner or person in charge) even gave me a blanket to keep myself warm with during my pedicure. Its the small details like that which make me feel Ok about paying a little bit more. Their prices overall are a tad higher than most nail places in the area...but being that the atmosphere is so nice and new and the amenities are great as well, I don't think the price difference would deter me too much from coming back. One thing I do wish they did though was a rewards card, most places do this. Something along the lines of every time you come in, you get your card stamped, then on the 10th, 12th or whatever time, you get something, like $10 off. Customers definitely appreciate small incentives like that. I think I would definitely come back regardless though. My advise for any future customer is to definitely call ahead and make an appointment, as I don't think there is enough staff to accommodate walk ins, in addition to their scheduled appointments. Also, there is additional parking in the back, so if you are afraid to parallel park or all of those spots in the front are taken, the back lot has more room. read more

I did not want to write a review because I like this place so much I don't want to share my secret :). We have lived in Montville for a year and I have not been sold on any pedicure place here and was traveling to Paramus to see my nail girl of 5 years (until I finally had enough of Route 17 traffic). I have had two pedicures by Jason, the man with the magic hands, and a manicure by Stella. Everyone here is friendly and welcoming and you really feel like you are in a peaceful place. Yes, the prices are more than the others in the area but I am willing to pay an extra $10 for cleanliness, and getting what I want (Stella is the first person to finally shape my nails the way I wanted them to be shaped!). I just hope they add some more gel colors soon, as they have some nice ones but variety is always a good thing! read more

This place is still fairly new so I really hope they maintain the quality they offer. I've never had anyone pay so much attention to shaping and painting my nails as Stella did. Kim at the front desk is lovely. Jason gives a killer massage as others have mentioned. I don't think I've ever spent so much time in a nail salon and it's because they were attentive until the very last minute (which happened to be five minutes before they closed) and made sure I left with everything perfect. Just got a gel mani and pedi. Excellent experience and my nails look great! Usually I go to luxury nails in Boonton for years but they are not open on Sundays. I love getting mani/peds on Sundays. Great way to start the week and I don't feel rushed trying to get to a nail place during the weekday. Love the phone holders on each table.... can read a book on my phone while getting my mails done. I would not recommend this place at all to anyone. Please ask your detail questions before going here otherwise they will sit you down but then not provide you with the full services while charging heavy. I heard great things about this nail salon and even though It is on the pricier side I decide to give it a try. When I walked in I was greeted right away I was asked to wait 20 minutes which I was hesitant to do but then agreed. I got a normal Pedicure and my lady was very nice. At one point she used the foot scraper and pointed to my foot and said "do you want?" I assumed she was just clarifying that she was going to scrub my feet with the paraffin buffer. I then got my gel manicure which came out great but the woman who did my nails (i think the owner) was pretty hard and aggressive on them at times. She didn't soak my nails at all which made the cleaning of the nail process somewhat painful. Nevertheless, at the end as I was about to check out I asked how much I was going to be paying. She told me 35 for the gel Manicure and 27 for the pedicure plus $10 for the paraffin scrub. I proceeded to tell the owner that I had no idea that the scrub was an extra service and assumed that the woman was just trying to make sure she wanted to scrub my feet like a normal pedicure. The owner became combative with me and made me incredibly uncomfortable, pushing me to pay the extra $10 even though she told me that the lady who did my pedicure did not speak English well and should have been more clear. It was clearly a misunderstanding but the woman would not let up on me and honestly made me very uncomfortable. Overall i was firm and said that I would not pay for the extra charge that I was unaware of. It was honestly very disappointing and the owner made me feel very uncomfortable, as well as the woman who did my pedicure. I would not go back there, especially for the price I paid and for the way I was treated. Customer service goes a long way and they need to work on that! read more

I actually would give this place 4.3 stars. I know that's a weird rating but overall I had a mixed experience: I definitely loved this place as far as its looks, décor, and very friendly service, but the pricing and the nail polish color selection had me shave a little bit off of the 5 stars I would've given. I went today for the first time for an eyebrow wax and a manicure, which altogether cost $22 ($10 for the wax, and $12 for the manicure) and upon entering, I was greeted very warmly by the staff despite each of them being busy with a customer. The lady who did my eyebrow wax did a pretty good job - pretty painless and precise, in my opinion. And she also did the beginning part of my manicure, which involves filing, removing cuticles, etc. The one thing that did bother me was that she picked a little too hard at one of my cuticles to the point that it bled a little bit, and that has never happened to me before at any other salon. Didn't bother me that much because I have a fairly high pain tolerance, but it was painful enough for me to notice and wince a little bit. The lady then switched with another girl named Stella, who was also very nice, and finished off my manicure by painting my nails. I chose a lighter lavender color, and she seemed to be having trouble layering it so you couldn't see through to the nail. Again, this didn't bother me much either but it simply doesn't happen to me at my usual places. I did notice that they also brought the equipment out in a sanitizing bag at the beginning of the manicure, which was immediately reassuring. Always good to know when a place is following proper sanitization procedures. One little tip: the parking is a little confusing when you arrive. It will look like there is only parallel parking available with only 3 spaces along the street, but there is a narrow little road just to the right of the salon that leads into a parking lot that isn't immediately noticeable upon approaching. Overall, I really liked my experience here, but because it doesn't really fall under my usual budget for these types of things, I'll only go here if I'm looking for a really relaxing environment and very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend you check it out for yourself, though! The place is honestly gorgeous and well-lit. Great place, great people. read more

Moved to the area not long ago. Was looking for a good spot to get my nails done. I went to Eric, and he did a very nice job. He files and paints very neatly. However he doesn't cut cuticles but my nails still looked good. I also know to cut my own so I'll do that if they are getting bad. Anyhow what bothers me is the lady Kim who sticks her nose into everything. I am getting my nails done and she comes up and starts examining what's going on. She's rushes me to pick a color. Starts giving me a massage and then tries to upsell to 10 min massage. I ask her how much a regular pedi is and her response is.. want a gel pedi,It's better. She always tries to sell something, not just to me but whenever a customer is there I always hear her up selling. It's so annoying. She was taking off my gel using the machine and my nails were burning bc she was rushing. I told her to slow down and she said she's busy and has to stay on schedule. She runs around the salon like a chicken without a head. It's not relaxing at all! I've kept coming bc Eric is nice and calm. I feel bad that I don't want to come back bc of her pushy behavior. I understand you are running a business but calm down. People come to a salon to relax. I don't need your fake hugs and then you treat me below average. I visited Serenity for a manicure and pedicure for the first time last Friday. I didn't have an unpleasant experience, but as I have thought about my visit over the last week a few things have bothered me. 1) I felt scolded (a few times) that I didn't make an appointment. If the salon was too busy for a walk in, they should have told me so. That's the risk you take when trying to walk in. 2) My manicure was less than quality. The manicurist hardly filed my nails, nor asked what shape I wanted. I cut my own nails at home just prior to visiting the salon, so they were no where near manicure ready. I asked the manicurist to refile a few different sections, like the corners. I thought after asking this for a few fingers she would have understood I wanted it for every finger, but that was not the case. My paint job was extremely blotchy. I did choose a light color, but feel the manicurist should have done an extra coat to ensure coverage. 3) I chose the Essie Gel Couture nail polish for both my mani and pedi. The salon told me this was "weekly polish". I was so excited to see a salon carry this. They charged $5 extra for both my mani and pedi because I chose this polish. Essie Gel Couture costs $11.99 at Walgreens. I nearly paid for a whole bottle myself. Oh, and the polish doesn't require a bottom coat. Rip off! The polish chipped on Tuesday - so much for "weekly" polish. 4) This is arguably my largest issue. I was asked to pay for my mani before complete, which was no problem and pretty standard at all nail salons. When pulling out my credit card, I also pulled out cash for my tip and left it on the corner of the table with my jewelry. Before my credit card was even picked up, my manicurist asked if the cash was for her. I found this very forward, and would prefer to reserve my right to leave a tip until after a service is complete. In the end, I really wasn't very satisfied with the quality of the manicure I received. It seemed that the manicurist was far most interested in the money than making sure I received a quality service. Will I visit again? Probably. I believe in second chances and the place was beautiful! My hope is that this post is a wake up call to Serenity and they increase their standards a bit to match their beautiful salon. read more

Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this salon. I live around the corner and my gel manicure came out great. Initially when walking in I thought the place was very clean and put together. The day after I got my gel manicure my finger swelled up huge. I thought it must have just been from getting my nails done no big deal. The following day my finger was even more huge and swollen. It started to be extremely painful and red. I waited a few days to see if it would get better on its own but after 5 days of it not clearing up I went to the urgent care. They told me it most likely was staph infection from dirty nail tools. The results came back and it was confirmed as a staph infection. I went down to the salon and advised Kim of what had happened and she offered me a discount on a pedicure. After $150 in doctors bills my $35 manicure and 10 days of antibiotics I will not be visiting this place ever again. It may come off as clean but its clear they are not properly cleaning their tools in between manicures. read more
