I have been a customer of Serenity Spa for a very long time and I feel terrible that I've never left a yelp review before. All of the employees are wonderful. The website was not user friendly (at least for me) and I accidentally booked the wrong treatment.. they were able to accommodate which was nice. The massage experience did not match the price or my expectations. As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my therapist bumped into me or the table multiple times. I could hear the people in the reception area very well. The music had no effect on their voices carrying through the halls. The sheets were not soft, scratchy and looked very used (clean but with some stains). Again, did not meet my expectations. read more

My experience at Serenity Spa Roseville felt like a more expensive Massage Envy- except less quiet. I have sensory issues and unfortunately got a massage room close to the front desk so I heard the main room music, the massage room music, and the next door room music. Competing sounds really get to me, so it effected the entire experience. The massage therapist was nice, but did not ask any questions about pressure or focus areas. Could be because it was a 90 minute Swedish, but not once was I consulted about the pressure or areas of concern. I requested deeper pressure a few times because feeling just a light touch irritates me, but the anxiety to ask also effects the experience. Overall, it was a fine massage. I've had worse and I've definitely had better. This won't be my "go to" place, but it was an ok place to spend my birthday. read more

After being a loyal customer for 15+ years I could not think of anywhere else to recommend a spa day with a friend for some girl time. The plan for the day was a foot reflexology massage, 90 minute massage and salt room sessions. Our appointment was at the end of August. When we got there, the massage chairs in the waiting area were malfunctioning. Then, the two therapists who were doing the appointments were confused that we were there together even though it was all booked together so the day started off unprofessional and definitely not what you'd expect for what I always felt was a high end spa. I had previously gotten a Stress Fix Massage so chose that for my massage. The therapist I had this day did not have ANY massage technique. Not once did I feel like she was actually getting to any of my muscles or relieving any stress. She yawned through the entire 90 minutes and had an odor I could not pinpoint. While she focused heavily on hot towels through out the massage, she failed to bring me a towel to wipe off any of the excess oil. Next, we had our foot reflexology massage in the salt room. Unfortunately the massage was more like her just rubbing lotions on my feet and ankles. Every other reflexology massage I've had in the past has been painful as they get into pressure points but not this time. The therapist could barely get up off the salts afterwards which also made the experience just awkward and not strategically planned. The only positive part of the day was the hot tea and the time in the salt room with my friend. Between the two of us we spent a minimum of $600 on the experience - ridiculous for the service we actually received. I am not one to write these kinds of reviews and was not going to until I was reminded of the experience as I paid my credit card bill. Sadly, the service and experience at Serenity is not what it used to be - I think I'll be looking elsewhere for my next massage/spa day. read more

I booked the Abhyanga Massage at Serenity Spa specifically to prepare for an upcoming surgery. When I scheduled, I was asked if I was sure I wanted this service, since it would take place in a hot room, with hot oil and intended to make me sweat with a focus on the breast and lymphatic tissues. I was also reminded that this treatment would not be relaxing, but deeply therapeutic. That is exactly what I expected but unfortunately, it is not at all what I was given. Instead, the therapist used an EXCESSIVE amount of oil and provided a massage so light that I had to ask multiple times for more pressure, with no real improvement. The treatment felt generic and nothing like the specialized service I booked. The hygiene issues were especially concerning. My feet were never washed or wiped before she massaged them, and after my feet she moved to massaging my face with the same hands. The room also felt uncomfortably small, the therapist had to lift her stool over me just to move around the table, hitting my leg in the process. This experience did not match the description, the preparation conversation, or the expectation set when I booked. Instead of feeling prepared, restored, and cared for, I left feeling disappointed and frankly unsanitary. I'm only giving 1 star because the salt room was amazing! read more

Terrible experience. My daughter bought foot massages. The foot massages were done in the waiting area, not a private room? The poor therapists had to kneel on the ground and do the massages - there was not even a foot bath, lots of noise because we were stuck in the waiting area. Don't offer foot massages at your spa if it's not going to be a complete service in a private room! Who wants a Massage of any kind with people staring at you in the waiting room?? Because we were put in the waiting area we had to look at all the people, and they could look at us while we were getting our massages, such poor management! We weren't charged for our terrible foot massages, but they didn't offer us anything to make up for such a poor service. Which is fine actually because I've never go back. So disappointing I'd heard from others that the spa had gone downhill. read more

I had an Indian Head Therapy session by Cilencia and it was AMAZING!! I have been having extremely bad upper back, neck and head pain lately and it's been really messing with me. I was in heaven the whole time, her massage skills are superb and I fell asleep. I especially liked when she did the part of my neck where it meets the shoulders underneath-it was definitely needed! First and foremost this incredible gem of a space is my sanctuary, my soul church and place of monumental, transformative healing. There aren't enough words to express all that I have and continue to receive from the classes/gatherings and yoga in general, but especially with Tammie. WHY WE WENT HERE: - with COVID-19 restrictions lifting, it took us about a month and a half to two months in advance to book this appointment (it was March when we booked this appointment for May) THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located in a plaza off Douglas Blvd and Sierra College Blvd - located in the same plaza as T-Mobile and Ahi Poke, next door to Curry Pizza THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - immediately upon entering is their storefront where they sell clothing, crystals, incense holders, etc. - when you sign in and fill out the form, at least the receptionist counter is long because there's definitely no chairs or appointed waiting area until your massage therapists/masseuses retrieve you (to have guests walk around to check out the store items I presume) COUPLES SERVICE: - 90 minute (1.5 hour) deep tissue massage OUR EXPERIENCE: - we were asked if we wanted the same or separate rooms upon check-in and opted for the same room - when our massage therapists/masseuses came to introduce ourselves, an older blonde woman (name unknown/forgotten) said she was going to massage the SO, which meant the young VERY quiet I could BARELY hear her woman with straight across bangs and black hair (name unknown/forgotten) was going to massage me - the room we were brought into was actually two separate rooms with the separating door opened to have some sense of togetherness - we felt the older blonde woman was the one taking charge with clear instructions on what to do, etc. while the younger brunette was again, VERY quiet and didn't contribute much with instructions, etc. - the music upon entry into the room was VERY loud Celtic-ish music, which wasn't relaxing - eventually the music felt more spa-ish as time progressed - the room was VERY cold and the massage beds were NOT warm, which was a bummer - of course prior to the massage, our massage therapists/masseuses asked what areas we wanted to focus on and we indicated as such (except my SO didn't inform the massage therapist/masseuse that his work requires manual labor, so after the massage was complete she just told him "you have a LOT going on with your body") - I know there wasn't anything indicating on the paperwork when initially booking the appointment about aromatherapy, but I was pretty bummed that the massage lotion was unscented (I do have sensitive skin and eczema, and not sure if that was the reason for it, or if it's just not carried/standard at this establishment) - I also felt that my massage therapist/masseuse in the beginning wasn't using enough lotion so I felt like I was getting Indian burns - sometime during our massage briefly there were LOUD noises (not sure if it was customer interactions like yelling/laughing) which disturbed the attempt to be in a relaxed state - like we always do, eventually we fall asleep during our massages - I did like the hot towels used and don't recall whether hot stones were used or not - at the end of the massage we were asked if we wanted water, which of course we said yes to - after leaving and paying at the front desk, we saw that the massage therapist/masseuse that massaged the SO leave as well (he was her last massage of the day we presume) - after speaking with my SO about the massage experience we both admitted that this wasn't the best massage we've ever had and overall would doubt that we would come again unfortunately read more

The anti-stress massage was amazing! Very relaxing. Few things I didn't like is that there room was cold and I asked for the blanket. It was uncomfortable to lay in the cold room. Such an amazing experience. We had a spa party here with 7 of us and we had a blast. I coordinated with Chelsea and she was so nice and did everything to accommodate us. We rented the Zen room, which was really nice, relaxing, and private. We each got a 90 min Swedish massage and 90 min facials, which were great. Massage: I had Olivia and she was amazing. I asked for light-medium pressure and she was spot on. Her technique was awesome and slightly different than what I've had before. It was so fluid and at times I felt like I had multiple hands massaging me, which was SO relaxing. Facial: wasn't sure what to expect during a 90 min facial since it's quite long but it was great. Had the usual steam, extractions, exfoliation, and face masks. I also got a scalp, neck and shoulder, and foot massage while the masks were on. I dozed off a few times during the foot massage because it was so relaxing. Only thing is my esthetician didn't say what she was using on my face, which I'm okay with but I know some people prefer to know each step, which I'm sure you can just ask. First, I was offered a complimentary retry within hours of when I posted my 2 star review last May. I appreciated this very much because it showed me they cared. Unfortunately it took me this long to reschedule. I wish it was not worst than my last experience and I only increase a star for the initial effort of trying to fix this from a 1 to a 2. I was suppose to get the best of the best for my retry and this was far from. Btw, I scheduled this 3-4 weeks in advance. I am spoiled and I am used to 4 star resorts when I compare the quality of my services but the downfalls are simple basics. Our appt was at 2. We did not get seen until 2:15 and 2:20. My friend got a facial and foot massage and was not offered a robe/slippers because they were running late and that it would have taken more time. Then offered it later when they found out she was paying for a second service. She was not given a basket for her things and had to carry them around with her. They never noticed this and were scurring around because they thought they lost her clothes. They gave me the same masseuse I had last time that i said was eh okay was not any better. Asked my focus. Lower back! She spent maybe 5-10 mins on my lower back during my whole hour. When I flipped over I asked for a neck roll/pillow. She looked at me as if I was asking for a steak sandwich and says, "I don't have a neck pillow." huh? usually it is simply a rolled up towel. Draping was abrupt and hurried. Beds are not heated. Robe isn't heated either. I'm naked. Its a cold room. Crock pot for towel warmer. Hmnn. Facial was scheduled at 3:15... did not arrive until 3:30. I got under the covers and felt really cold. The room is already cold. I discover that the blanket was wet and made the sheet wet. Not soaking wet but damp like after a shower. I tell the girl. She removes it and asks, "would you like another blanket?" UM yeah I am naked under a thin sheet freezing. She returns with a crunchy rough red navajo blanket that was probably in the trunk of someone's car as it was warm. WTF? How come i can't get the same one that it came with? She asks what I want. I said a basic facial? It is customary to examine my skin and determine what I need. Nope. She goes straight to putting some oily stuff on my face. Never looked at my skin under the light or offered any kind of tips. Not until 40 mins in did she turn the light on just to do extractions. No communication whatsoever. Then the last 5 minutes puts a warm towel roll under my neck! yes you do know what that is! would be nice to had that from the get go. Lastly NO neck/shoulder/arm massage whatsoever! Had a scalp massage but that's it. Even my last facial here, I got that. They charge more because they are a "spa". I get that but what exactly am I getting extra? Besides a quiet waiting room and a chocolate strawberry at the end but I see no other additional benefit? No heated beds, luxurious robes, locker room, rain shower, vanity, hot tub, snacks, or personal host which I find at a true spa. You mine as well go to massage envy or Happy Day spa for less $ and not much less amenities or service. If you don't know better, this is alright. Unfortunately, I do. I will not be returning. It's a lovely location the interior is wonderful the staff is ever so sweet but they can't keep an appointment to save themselves. I'm new to the group so I understand they have to work me in... But to cancel then reschedule 24 hours before the actual appointment on multiples booking is not my idea of relax, relaxing or relaxed. So book your spa appointment with them, knowing full well that you could be canceled or pushed to another timeframe and potentially most often with an entirely different therapist. I've been going to Serenity Spa for years but haven't in the last three years since the pandemic. Before, I used to enjoy the waiting room with massage chairs, fountains, tea and relaxing music. It really set the tone for a relaxing experience. When I went for my facial this past month, I noticed the entire lobby area was just inventory for sale. I checked in (none of the receptionists were wearing masks) I was not directed to wait anywhere, so I just walked around. Apparently I was in the way and so I asked where I could wait as there was no more waiting room and I was finally told there was a tiny couch in the corner to sit on. They were not friendly or welcoming. Thirty minutes after my scheduled appointment my esthetician finally came and retrieved me. I was not offered any information or beverages while I sat there waiting for her. My esthetician was not wearing a mask, which I found terrifying especially since I would have to remove mine for my facial. She was apologetic for being late and compensated for it by offering me a free add on to my facial. The facial experience was nice and relaxing though. However once she left the room I noticed she only had a couple of products on the counter which basically meant she rubbed the same lotion all over me for the entire experience. I'm also used to having the esthetician take a look at my skin under light before the facial to identify any problem areas before the facial starts, this was not done. They used to give you a chocolate covered piece of fruit, glass of water, and hot towel after the appointment to relax and enjoy but this no longer occurs. When I left to pay, the front office was vacuuming and didn't acknowledge me. The next day, I noticed myself sneezing and eyes watering like crazy so I'm definitely allergic to their product which I have never been. So overall, facial was fine-ish but all of the nice touches Serenity used to have are gone. For a $100+ facial it's not worth it and I would not go back. And this is coming from me who used to go ALL the time for multiple massages, facials, packages, couples treatments etc. Definitely a red flag when you are stressed out at a facial appointment. read more
