I finally found my Forever Stylist. Here are some freaky things that have happened since I started going to Rebecca at Sereno Salon: 1) At a local medical conference, a fellow attendee walked over and introduced herself, we made small talk.. about 10 minutes later she admitted the real reason for coming over to talke to me -- she wanted to scoop my hair stylist! 2) My out-of-town sister gave me a sincere compliment on my hair. For anyone with an older sister, you know how extraordinary that is! 3) I attended a party in SF with some friends straight from a post-workout shower. I got two compliments on how great my hair looked "without doing anything to it." Another girl mentioned "it's not fair your hair just dries naturally and looks that good" Rebecca really listened to me when I was in the chair. I told her I don't have a lot of time to spend stying my hair and she set me with a great wash-n-wear style. When I need it to look super-professional for the job, I just spend a few extra minutes with a curling iron. I got to know her a little bit, and she said one of her passions is hair colour. I don't colour my hair, but its good to know she'll be able to help in the (hopefully) distant future. Ah, as I went to set the price range, I just remembered her prices are really reasonable. If you're looking for a long lasting, meticulously done, relaxing mani-pani, look no further. Renata Bailey uses high quality products and is an expert nail technician. I decided to get off the nail gel train and was concerned about how my nails would look like after years of chemicals and serious sanding. Renata buffed them smooth and then advised me to use a natural oil on my cuticles and nails, twice dailey, to restore them. I was actually shocked after she finished taking the gels off; my nails looked great. I've been to many nail salons in the Burlingame/San Mateo area, and she really is the best. read more

Okay so now Renata is a mobile salon. I did not know how that was going to work but it totally did. I am often unable to go and see her at the salon where she use to be because of the difficulty in parking at the time that I am available to come and most Saturdays I am traveling for work. I had my first Shellac manicure and spa pedicure in my living room where I sat on my own couch in my warm living room. She has her own salon chair and table and all I need was a kitchen chair for my nails and my cozy couch for my pedi. I had set up the dining room table and the kitchen table hoping that it would work for her but worried it would a nightmare for both of us. To my surprise she came equipped with everything! It was literally like she brought the salon to my house. I was able to work, have a conference call and I didn't have to worry about waiting for my toes to dry and then leave the salon in the freezing cold with sandals on. I'm spoiled and I don't think I can ever get my nails done in a salon again. I saved about 21/2 hours by not having to get out of work on time, drive in traffic, battle downtown San Mateo parking and remember to have change....and oh wait...eat something because I worked through lunch. She was like a nail genie. She arrived, worked her magic and then disappeared. No mess or trace. She even tapes a bag to her table to put all of the cotton and paper items in and takes it with her! This review is for RENATA BAILEY...I am almost scared to post too much lest I am not able to book her for future appointments. If you want the best pedicure/manicure in the Bay Area, I would say go to her. If you need the whirlpool jets, go somewhere else. If you want a FOOT SPA, go to Renata. She will make your whole body feel better after one of her pedicures, which last forever! If you can indulge, do the chocolate pedicure. I try to do it once a year as a total pampering afternoon. Renata is also very personable, cheerful and fun to gab with! I am usually pretty quiet with nail technicians but her cheerfulness is infectious! I connected with her while trying to find someone to come and give my dying mother a manicure and pedicure! No one was responding to my calls including the woman listed on this site named Renata!!!!! I called Renata over and over and over from the cell phone number that was listed on the site. I finally got one text from Renata message telling me that she would call me in 10 to 15 minutes after she left the library at this point I had already left her a couple messages explaining to her that my mother would like to get a pedicure and manicure and it may very well be her last one! Somehow Renata could not manage to ever call me back! I won't single her out though there were two other companies and also did not return my calls it seems that this is a problem in this MOBILE PEDICURE Business. All that said I want to repeat that in the 50+ phone calls that made to 4 different businesses over the course of the entire day yesterday the only person who called me back and grace me with some help was Gina the owner of this company. She made sure that I had Renata'scorrect phone number and also attempted to try to find other people to help! All five of these stars are going straight to their nail technician, Renata Bailey. The woman is far and away the best nail tech I have ever had. You won't meet anyone who is more concerned with the quality of her work (she takes her time to make sure every nail looks perfect), the cleanliness of her station (the woman uses Orange Spray like it's going out of style, and I love her for it), and staying on top of trends (yes, she does a kick-ass Shellac treatment that will leave your nails chip-free for 2 weeks.) You can also book appointments through her website which makes things super convenient. She is well worth the cost for the excellent service she provides. While I don't get my nails done religiously, whenever I do, Renata is the only woman I will let touch my hands and toes. I have been seeing Renata (Baily's nails and toes) for many years now, I have followed her everywhere. I was recently relocated to southern Cali, so I write this to you from Oceanside. Now that I am gone I am able to share her with the world. Renata has a challenge with me, I'm a picker, a grinner, a lover and a sinner, which means she has had to work over a hot mess. However, though her passion in nail care and patience with me I now have the most beautiful nails. I started with Acrylic, she never gave me an edge to pick at, (she understands my picking). I moved on to (but not until I was ready) natural beautiful nails, I didn't even know I could have natural beautiful nails, with "Axxium", an OPI thing for natural nail care. And now "Shellac" a Creative Nail opportunity for long lasting polish. Your Polish actually stays on forever or until she takes it off. Have I mentioned her Pedi's?? Mask, Scrub, and meticulously clean (disposable tubs). To conclude, Renata has not only cared for but shown me a way to care for my nails myself. This is a review for Renata Bailey, the manicurist at this salon. The other reviews about her are spot on. She is absolutely the best nail technician I have ever been to. First off she actually uses CND Shellac products when applying shellac, something I found out the hard way other salons may not do. I apparently had some other product on my nails (even though I had asked for CND Shellac), which made them look like I had acrylic/gel nails - thick and unnaturally chubby looking nails. Her application is just like a plain polish, and looks like it was almost photoshopped - precise and even. The shape of the (short) nails are just right too - not too square, not too round. She did not over clean/cut the skin around my nails and at the corners of my fingers, which has been my ongoing struggle with other nail technicians who seem to obsess over this, cutting off my skin instead of cleaning the nail bed/edge. To top it off, she noticed that the seasonal eczema on my hands was flared up and made the effort to use a cream with less fragrance in it. Bottom line: she is really detail oriented and does it really well. She even told me "If you're gonna do it, do it right!". Exactly! So glad I finally found someone like her! I have to say i heard such good things about this place but my experience was NOT good! i had my hair cut and colored by GINA, it cost $115 for glaze and the cut. I asked for a nice rich brown color, i specified that i did not want black hair. Here I am 24 hours later with black hair!! It looks horrible, after calling her several times she finally called me back and suggested i try washing my hair with tide. She didn't seem to care at all. If you want to have a decent conversation then this place is good. if you want good results avoid this salon! Seriously ! read more

The patience she had when handling broken nails to the skin was so appreciated. She made me feel relaxed and most of all she did not rush the process. I have been a regular loyal customer of Ginas for about 17 years now, and have enjoyed every single visit to her salon. She's hip to all the latest and really knows her trade, plus she does really cool up-dos! All the ladies are really, I mean really sweet. You want the snobby experience go to one of the high price rip off artists down the road, 'cause you won't get that experience here, check your ego at the door ladies! This salon has a great vibe, not to mentioned Gina's great, hand selected, reasonable costume jewelry line! I'm a fine jeweler and even dip into her stash once and a while! I have NEVER had a bad experience in the salon, nor have I witnessed anyone else leaving not feeling like a million bucks, and trust me when I say, after 17 years of hanging out there I really have never seen a bad cut or color! All the ladies give great hair managing tips and tricks, for example the wacky bad reviewer who mentioned "they told her to use Tide", well if she was hair savvy, she'd realize that really works and is an old trick of the trade. Maybe if she should have tried it, her review would have been better. I've been going to Renata Bailey for the past 8 years. She is a professional in every sense of the word. She's spa certified and it shows in the quality of her service. I don't know how she does it but the polish on my toenails remains perfect for weeks. I've gotten so many compliments on my pedicure and I love it! I typically get the mani/pedicure service. This is a salon that is owned by the hair stylists that work there. The salon is clean, stylish and comfortable. There are always fresh flowers at each station and waiting area has nice cushy leather seats. I have been going to Gina for about 20yrs now. I have followed her as she moved to different salons, and now is in business for herself!I I have tried other stylists but always went back to her because she can cut my curly hair the best. I found this place on accident really. The barber shop I was originally going to go to was closed that day, saw one hair place still open, and thought what the hell! As a guy its already awkward enough walking into a salon, since I've encountered less than charming individuals in others I'd tried before, but at this point I'd had a long string of disappointments just about everywhere else so I really didn't have anything to lose. This place turned out to be a nice change from the norm. I've been back a few times now to trim my nappy roots and the gals here are always super friendly, and just engaging enough to make you not feel like a complete & total stranger. and I've yet to be disappointed w/ my cuts! Just had a nail appointment with Renata. WOW !! What amazing work she does. She is a perfectionist without taking forever to make magnificent nails. She files with a file not a drill. Base of nails is smooth with no edge where acrylic ends. Length is appropriate and her french manicure is perfect. Uses off white instead of that intense white-white that looks so fake. She uses the UV light on the final coat so you can just walk out and not worry about ruining a new manicure. I would highly recommend her to anyone. No whirlpool jets, only a tub. Nothing special except the prices....if you like paying $45 for a pedicure go here. I thought I was getting the $55 mani/pedi...Surprise..$70. I drive all the way up from Menlo Park because I LOVE Gina and her salon. Great cut and color for a reasonable price. She has great hours/days, but books out fast. She's that good. She is efficient and quick doing my color/cut, which is good because I don't want to spend my 4 free hours getting my hair done. Highly recommend! read more
