I went there only because I received for my birthday a promotional/coupon package of services. It was pretty much a waste of my time. Imagine going back in time like the 80's and that is what Rachel and Co is ... the place is messy, lacks any customer service and professionalism. They do not even smile and say "thank you" ... it was sad. I have 2 other services (manicure and haircut) left but I think I'll just toss it in the garbage just like the salon. Looks like others aren't so happy with their recent experiences at Rachel & Co. I also went to this salon due to a gift certificate and decided to do nails out of the four services. It took four different calls to finally get a booking. When I arrived, they were running 20 minutes late and I was overwhelmed with the smell of nail and hair solutions/toners. I was charged $8 to upgrade to deluxe manicure but there was nothing deluxe about it. My cuticles weren't cleaned up, I was given a one minute massage and given a rushed and sloppy polish. And per the terms of the certificate, I was supposed to receive a consultation, a $10 gift certificate towards another visit and herbal tea which was never received. I wasn't even offered anything to drink. Not to mention they seemed extremely unorganized and scattered. I am chucking the rest of this gift certificate in the bin. A bad nail polish is all I'm willing to risk at this place. Thank goodness I have my trusty stylist, nail technician and masseuse at other locations that I fully enjoy visiting. read more

Rachel has been cutting a coloring my hair for about 10 years! She is the best. I constantly get compliments on my hair. Her ability with color is amazing. My highlights look very natural. My own mother didn't know I had highlights and color. She thought I was just lucky that I still hadn't gone gray at 48. In addition, Rachel is very responsive to my request and with my lack of planning. She always seems to find time to work me into her busy schedule and responds promptly to messages. The shop is very relaxed, yet professional. Rachel always asks about my children, husband and work. She has truly become a trusted friend and I look forward to seeing her every 6-8 weeks! read more

honesty, i am a local stylist/salon owner being nosy on yelp. i can not directly rate rachel and co at this location. i know rachel has many years of experience, she was a hair color educator and is a very hard worker. i think it is worth your time looking at the positive salon reviews that yelp has filtered- linked to the bottom of this page. it seems highly unfair for this salon to have such low rating merely due to yelp poor filtering. shame on yelp!!! read more

I, also, wish I could give this salon a zero star. This morning I entered the salon which was filthy. The owner was at a desk, did not look up . . . did not speak. Her rudeness had a quality of hostility that was frightening. I know nothing about her hair cuts. The only reason I went there is because my stylist, who is excellant, has just rented a space in this salon. I wish my stylist had stayed at LW Salon just up the street which is very professional, warm and friendly. (and clean). From what I'm reading, Rachel must have mood swings, there was no sweet, pleasant person there this morning. The first time I went there, I had to pound on the window to get her to unlock the door, even though the shop was open and she was working on a victim right by the window. Horrible haircut!! Stylist Robyn did not give me what I wanted in a haircut even after I specifically requested a certain style and showed pictures. She was distracted with her own son talking to her while I was getting my haircut. I am very disappointed with the quality of service and charged me $38 when their website said $32. They need to update their website. I would not go there again nor any hair salon that does not have a positive review from their customers! read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I am glad to see that I am not the only person who has had problems with this establishment. This is my first review on yelp, I have never been moved (good or bad) as I am with this establishment. My mom bought me the promotional package for Christmas, it included a cut, highlights, 30 min. massage and manicure. As my mom read (before purchasing) the back of the promotional brochure she noticed that it had a 4 month expiration date. My schedule changes pretty frequently as I am a recent college grad so, my mom said it might not work for me. THE WOMAN SELLING THE PROMOTION SAID TO IGNORE THE EXPIRATION DATE AND THAT THE PROMOTION WOULD NEVER EXPIRE. I got my haircut which was neither good or bad. I called to schedule my next appointment in May (5 months) and Rachel said I could not use it any longer. After speaking with my mom, to make sure I understood her right, she reiterated the fact that it was never to expire. So I called again, this time 10 months from purchase. Again, I was told that "it states clearly on the back that it is good only for 4 months." I reminded her, that her employee said otherwise. After a bit of arguing (you should never conduct business this way) she "gave in" and told me I could have a haircut. I mentioned that the haircut was the only service that I had gotten. Since I used the haircut portion of the promotion, I could not get it again. She said that if it was a little closer to the expiration date than she would let it go. I reminded her that i DID call after 5 months and I was refused at that time as well. My mom was lied to. I find that disgusting, especially from a place of business. Rachel has given me a great haircut each time I have been there. She also fixed my over processed highlights and managed to get them to keep from going brassy at all. She is focused on doing the best for my face and build. I know that if i asked her for something that didn't suit me, she would be honest enough to tell me why and offer an alternative idea. I also have to say... I was reading some of the other reviews on here about this Salon and I think that if you can't stand up to your hair dresser, and end up in your car crying, that's really pathetic. If you had to end up going to a salon on Fillmore to 'fix'' your haircut, then a conservative salon like this may not have been the best choice form the start. They don't pretend to be something they are not, this Salon has a very comfy feel and makes people feel like they are the focus, not in the middle of a rave. I always enjoy my experience. read more

I've been seeing Rachel for brow and Brazilian waxes since fall of 2008 and she is a sweetheart! She's very personable and friendly. She does a great job with the waxing and even bought a wax especially for my sensitive skin when we found out I was having a reaction to her regular stuff. I also find her prices very reasonable. My boyfriend started going there for haircuts too and he really likes they way she cuts his hair. I haven't had my hair cut since summer of 2008 but when its ready, I will be going to Rachel. :D read more

I don't go to Rachel & Company with coupons or a gift certificates, though I do have very high standards when it comes to my haircuts and highlights. I don't expect a hip city atmosphere - been there, done that, and overpaid for them when I lived in SF. I tried many of of the hippest and most expensive, but always got "meh" cuts. I have short hair and just figured it must be the hardest cut for stylists since it's so hard to find someone who can give me sexy and sassy perfection every single time. I thought I'd give Rachel a try when I moved to the area, and I struck gold. She is the only stylist who can consistently give me sexy and sassy short along with gorgeous highlights. I am not exaggerating when I say that I get and have gotten compliments from strangers; teenage girls to older women, all the time - at least 2 or 3 times a month, for years. I disagree with other reviews that used the words messy and unprofessional The salon was a bit tight on space until Rachel remodeled last year. Also, Rachel doesn't have a full-time receptionist and the salon can get busy on Saturdays. No matter how busy it is, I'm always treated very well and I enjoy the atmosphere. How could you not enjoy having a Rachel's little toy poodle cuddle on your lap during your cut? Bottom line... if you want a seriously skilled artist working on your hair, I highly recommend Rachel. read more

Rachel and Co. is hands down the best salon I have ever been to, and I've been to a few. I don't know how to respond to some of the bad reviews on here because I have been seeing Rachel for years with excellent results. Rachel is a phenomenal colorist with an unusual eye for what is going to work for you. As far as haircuts go, she has given me everything from a traditional bob to an edgy layered situation. I definitely fall into the "young" category and Rachel has always been able to go as conservative or as daring as I ask her to. I tend to have a hard time articulating what I want to her, but she always seems to figure it out somehow. I moved out of the area a few years ago and have had some unfortunate experiences with other colorists and haircuts since. Luckily every time I go home to visit family Rachel makes time to fit me in and fix whatever was done to me the last time around, no matter how last minute I am! I wish I could post before and afters up here so you could see some of the nonsense that she has made into good haircuts for me. I can't say enough about Rachel. Absolutely try her out. Ok. As I sit here in horror I feel it is my duty as a citizen of Burlingame to write a review. This salon was horrifying. I cannot speak to the other employees because when I walked in the place was half dark with one stylist. Mina gave me the worst haircut I have ever had - I asked for 2 inches off and ended up with 7 inches off. The entire haircut she tried to sell me threading, a facial, highlights, and straightening. I was incredibly uncomfortable with how intensely she tried to upsell me. I kept telling her it looked fine and to stop cutting but she refused. She did not wet my hair throughout the haircut but charged me for a blowdry. I paid just so I could escape as quickly as possible. She also insisted i give her my phone number. I made a call to the health dept...do no go here. There are two poodles who run the shop and if you do not let Rachel's sit in your lap she punishes you. She does not wash her hands and will stop your appt to take her dog to poop or chat on her phone every appt I have had with her she does not wash her hands!!! I had to ask her to washthem again she did not like it. Its dirty, no wonder with two dogs running around plus raRachel eats her food at the front desk staring at her computer ignoring questions and clients. She does listen to what you want and I pay $175. No blow dry for a mess again. I called her and she refused to talk to me but sure kept my money. Shame on me for going to Rachel as long as I have NO MORE. This last time she took another call and I asked her to stop my cut since last time she took a hunk off one side she told me the call was very important.....
