I've reviewed Serious in the past and wanted to updated after recently purchasing an upgrade bike. Sean, Brian and the team in Agoura provided me with top notch customer service from beginning to end. I made few visits during my decisions making process and was always welcome when walking in the door. I order a custom color bike which Sean was very detailed about, make sure we confirmed colors via the in store samples prior to the order being submitted. (Om1 s) I had pre mock'd up the bike online and Sean save me big by pointing out that one of the codes provided was off slightly from a reference I showed him that would have resulted in a different color than what I wanted. Brian took excellent attention to detail when measuring my old bike and talking things over with me. We discussed what changes we could make to my fit given my progression in skill over the time I had been riding the initial bike he fit me on. A week after the order went in I changed my mind and decided to go for an add-on, power meter. Sean ensured that it got bundled in and it was on the bike bike when it arrived. On pickup day Sean and Brian made sure that I got setup properly and help get some of my accessories installed so the bike would be ready to go out the door. The Agoura shop where I took my bike for new brake rotors, pads and a tune-up is excellent. When I took my bike in, Bryan did a quick check and told me the bike only needed a bolt tightened rather than a tune-up; he and another person (whose name I didn't get) spec'd out the needed brake parts and provided the cost estimate. Thank You Agoura Hills Shop Crew! Been dealing with flat front tire Every morning since late Feb. (after getting new tires ) FINALLY did a drive by Agoura SC and they were great! Knew the problem within minutes and and made the necessary adjustments to both the front and back tires. Tubeless tires (sometimes) need tubes......Go Figure. Didn't charge me which I thought was nice since they hadn't done the new tire replacement. All is well.. Wish I had gotten their names, to Thank them personally. Once again both my wife and I took both our road bikes to Bikes and Brew for a tuneup. Once again we both came away very impressed by the technicians expertise, Communication and attention to detail. Chase did a magnificent job. When he noticed anything that might require extra the call was placed to ask if we wanted the additional work done to the bike. We are REALLY impressed as this is the only shop we take our bikes to after trying 2 others. Vince is the hub of the wheel and I never feel rushed even when the shop is very busy. He is an expert but is patient and never talks down to any customer. I have never heard him say anything negative about a customer. Thanks Bikes and Brew. 5 stars and I'm difficult to please. Most of my reviews tend to be positive. My first experience here was positive but my second experience here was perplexing. I brought my road bike in because I wanted to find out if they had any used wheels for sale. The previous person I dealt with said they may. When I told the guy I don't want to spend the $250/$300 on new wheels and did they have used wheels, he said no. He then told me that my cables needed replacing at the labor cost was $150 and it wouldn't be worth it. What? Why in the world would he think it wouldn't be worth it? I stared at him in disbelief because I think he was trying to get me to buy a new bike even though I made it clear I didn't have the funds. He was a poor communicator and didn't seem to care about my needs. I will gladly take my business to one of the new shops in the area. I had my mountain bike cables replaced there and it wasn't a big deal. I don't trust these people. I don't recommend them. Especially if you are really wanting to get back on your bike, you would be totally discouraged and give up. Or, you'd bite the bait and buy a new bike. I won't, I know better. Sure, my bike was older than the new models on the floor, but it's a light carbon frame bike with lots more spinning in it! I'll buy my used wheels on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, I'll take it into the other shop for new cables and I'll be good to go. Thank you very much!!! read more

I'm rating specifically the Thousand Oaks store. I've had some pretty interesting interactions with Paul at the Agoura location and have had the pleasure of in the pit at Eroica with him on a few occasions. I'm an adequate mechanic and don't need much attention. When I bring bikes in, it's usually because I don't have the proper tools not because I'm ignorant. Paul helped me with a couple of small repairs (cutting a carbon steerer and seating an impossibly stubborn Gatorskin) A recent visit to Thousand Oaks location, i was met with haughty disdain at a tiny part that I needed for a bike computer. Granted it was for a Wahoo, but I guess he needed to know what price we can sustain. He couldn't feign any more boredom in assisting. Granted I'm dressed badly, but revenue is revenue, right. You just can't judge what people spend on hobbies. Super surprised for a bike geek store, they aren't too interested in establishing relationships. I hate buying online and believe in only buying locally if possible. This is why people go to amazon or competitive cyclist dot com. Drive 3 miles west and visit Vince at JRA. He doesn't have the selection out there, but at least he treats you like a human and he can order it. Oh, If you're not on a douchebag on 10k carbon bike with Di2, you're probably not going to much help here. I'm just a fat dude that rides a Moots. read more

I wrote a review of an extremely negative interaction I had with this shop a while back but was intentionally vague to give the shop the benefit of doubt that my experience was unique. However, two things have happened recently that give me cause to rewrite my review. First, the shop asked Yelp to take down my review because it was vague, so here I will be very detailed. And, second, after all the frustrations I had with the shop, I recently had trouble with the same bike and I took it to another shop, where they discovered the issue I was having was because Serious Cycling left a out crucial part of the BB assembly that by some miracle didn't cause irreparable damage to the frame. I will elaborate on that shortly. First, I took my bike in to this shop in December a couple years ago with a small crack in the frame. I asked them to ask the manufacturer to assist with repair or frame replacement since the frame cracked without a crash. They arrogantly declined. Wouldn't even try to reach out and instead pushed a third party repair shop they trusted to do great work. They did mention up front that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to have the bike back. Timing wasn't an issue since this was a TT bike and I could ride my road or MTB bike during that timeframe and have the TT bike ready for tri season in the Spring. 8 weeks goes by and I don't hear anything from the shop. I let it go two more weeks because I was traveling but when I checked in ten weeks later, on a Tuesday, I was told it would be ready Thursday of that week. Thursday comes and goes and no call from the shop. I waited until Monday and called. Again, I was told it'll be ready Thursday, "sorry for the mix up". Again, no bike at the end of the week. The following Friday I go to the shop to speak to the manager, who, totally ignores that I am waiting to speak to him after I told a sales person who I was, what I wanted to speak about. After 20 minutes, I approached the manager and asked for his attention. He was preparing to fit someone but had "a few seconds" to chat. I told him it wouldn't take long, I just wanted him to tell me when the bike would be ready. He told me "These guys do incredible repairs!!! They fixed a fork the other day that came back better than from the manufacture". Cool, when will I have MY bike back. Oh, next week for sure. "I'll make sure". Next week, no bike. Now, I'm ready to move on. So, I call the manager, tell him I'd like the bike back repaired or not this week. He gets testy with me saying that I don't understand the process. I told him I don't care about the process, get my bike back and that this is terrible management and customer service. He hangs up the phone. I call back and again ask for the bike back. Two weeks later, the bike comes back repaired. The third party vendor calls me to apologize. THE THIRD PARTY VENDOR...Not the shop. The vendor waves the cost of the repair and is completely apologetic. I tell him no worries and thank you. He was great. The bike arrives at the shop, I get a phone call from a sales associate , not the manager, telling me my bike is ready and the cost will be over $400!!! I say for what? "Rebuild". The manager doesn't call to tell me this. An innocent associate calls. I told the person thank you, I will be there shortly. The manager won't come to the front to speak to me when I pick up my bike. The shop charges me $400 dollars for doing nothing but holding my bike for months longer than they promised and causing a dramatic amount of frustration. So, since the shop didn't want a vague review on yelp this is exactly what happened. Two years ago. Yeah, I'm that upset about how poorly they treated me that I was willing to rehash this review because the shop was so pedantic that they had my previous review removed. I am guessing they didn't think I would bother to write another review but I am still so upset about being taken advantage of and ripped off that I am happy to share the details here if it will save even one person from visiting this shop. Go to any of the other shops in the area and you will receive far better treatment. The HUB, NP cycles, Trek Bikes, Mike's Bikes and JRA bikes and brew are all great options with friendly sales and service. read more

I purchased my Cérvelo R2 from them over a year ago, being new to the sport I wanted to make a well informed decision, they made sure they helped me in every aspect. I had a ton of questions about EVERYTHING (I still Do) and they ALWAYS give me their honest opinion about gear and accessories, they're not just trying to sell me stuff, they wanna make sure I know what I'm buying and that I'm going to be happy with it. Really not happy here. Bought a new bike from them 10 days ago. I emailed them a couple of hours after the purchase after noticing this brand new bike had a large paint chip. They never got back to me. A week later emailed them again. Still never got back to me. At this point it seems like they will never respond. On my FIRST ride on the bike, whoever set up the rear brake did not bleed the system correctly, which I only found out when I tried to stop and the rear lever went all the way to the bar. Not cool to find out you have no rear brake. It was a sketchy ride back to the hotel with only a front brake. No rides after that since I don't carry around a brake bleed kit when I'm traveling. Back at home, a few days later, I go to add a power meter and I learn that they did not set up the crankset correctly, so of course the power meter would not go on correctly. Come on man, the red bearing shield goes on the nondrive side on GXP cranks. Always. They had it on the drive side. So for the few rides and washes I had done since then - in the dirt since this is a gravel bike - the nondrive side bearing was completely unprotected from dirt, debris, water, etc., all because there was no bearing shield installed. How do you install a crankset without the bearing shield? Do I feel grit in the bottom bracket now? You betcha. So not only did I have a chipped frame, but I had to bleed the brakes myself, re-install the crankset myself, and then just for fun I had to re-adjust the rear derailleur. I actually asked them ahead of time NOT to build the bike and just sell it to me in the box. They said they could not do that. So they build the bike and then screw it up and chipped the frame. I've taken the entire bike apart and put it back together, so at least now I know it has been done right. But I obviously can't re-paint the bike myself so thanks for nothing guys. read more

I live in Long Beach, so Serious is about an hour away from me, but I like it better than any of the other shops near me. I recently started doing some training rides that leave from the shop on the weekends. The shop is open around 7 or 7:30(on the weekend if the owner or some of the shop guys are riding) so that people can use the restroom to change, make last minute purchases, or get some quick work done before rolling out. I've had conversations with several of the guys that work here, and everyone has been helpful and enthusiastic. I wanted to demo a saddle, so Scott walked over to discuss my options and suggest things for me to try. Once I had decided which saddle I was going to roll with for the week, I thought I would go home and get it set up, but Scott put my bike on a stand, took some measurements, and got the demo saddle mounted as close as possible to the way my old one was. The second saddle I wanted to try had carbon rails that didnt work with my seatpost, so Scott loaned me a seatpost that would work and mounted it up again. I received the same service while trying on shoes. These guys really go the extra mile to help their customers out. A unique feature in this shop is their espresso bar. The espresso machine is similar to a Keurig, in that it uses a small plastic cup of grounds for each espresso brewed. They often have some pastries and/or fruit laid out, and there is a small area to sit. It is a nice addition to the shop and a great way to relax after a long ride. read more

I love writing reviews like this. I popped in to the Serious Cycling Shop in Northridge, CA 4/20/22. I simply wanted new bar tape for my BMC SLR01. As always the entire Northridge staff was gracious and welcoming and making me feel like a VIP! Today it was Aidan that helped me. I only had the expectation Aidan would wrap my bar tape and I'd be on my way. Aidan asked if I had more time to stay at the shop. I told him sure. He then preceded to clean my frame and polish it up. After his superb cleaning he took time to update my SRAM Red AXS with the latest firmware from his own cell phone. Aidan truly went above and beyond today. I stopped by to have a bike boxed for shipping. I met their mechanic, Kevin, who was friendly and helpful. He promised that the bike would be ready for pick up by the next day. To my surprise, Kevin called me back within a few hours to let me know he was done. I was very pleased with the turnaround. While at the shop, I noticed that it has lots of bikes to choose from. Wish they carry Yetti since that's likely to be my next purchase. The place overall appeared clean, well organized and cozy. So I called Serious Cycling a few days ago, I asked over the phone "how can I get my mtb tire to fill up with air, after I took it off to add tire sealant?" I was told if I don't have a presta valve on my air compressor it won't go back, I was told over the phone by an employee "bring in your tire if you can't figure it out and we can easily add some air to it no charge". When I went in Bryan the store manager helped me, I told him I talked to someone over the phone and I needed to get my tire pumped up that was all. I could have done the tire sealant on my own, but since I brought my bottle of tire sealant I asked if I could put the tire sealant in real quick. Bryan said he would, so he reluctantly did, I don't know what it is about that man but he is always so rude to me, and other people I see come in there. Which is crazy because he is the store manager why would they want him there still? Anyways it took Bryan 2-3 minutes to add air, take the valve stem off, add my sealant I owned, and refill the tire with air. So with such a simple an easy fix, that used my pre purchased parts, I was a little annoyed when he went to charge me for the 2 minutes of labor it took. All I said was, "what am I being charged for? I was told I wouldn't get charged!" I said this because that was the truth. Bryan is a terrible face for this business I hear from others who go to serious cycling the same experience. I was charged for the easiest labor heard of, and when I said "why am I being charged?" He began to argue with me about it. In his line of work, he should know that the customer is always right, and losing business over 6 ridiculous dollars is not worth it! read more

Every member of their team treated me well the first time I walked in with my 20-year-old road bike years ago, and every time ever since. Now that I have finally upgraded to a modern road bike, they treat me just like they always have: with genuine love and passion for cycling. Oh, and a crazy amount of knowledge. I was recently in the market for a new road bike. I called Serious and spoke with Derek. I described what I was looking for and scheduled an appointment to test ride some bikes. Derek arranged to have multiple bikes from different stores at the Northridge location for me to try. The selection of bikes was in line with my desires, but also provided a good range of riding experience and price points. The experience felt tailor-made and gave me everything I needed to make an informed decision. Long overdue review. I came into the store in December after having driven down from NorCal in an irate and groggy state to have a carbon seat post slippage looked into. Brought my bike in and after reflecting on my experience I felt Scott and the mechanics were really patient with me. I had damaged threads on the bolt, and furthermore the seat post was stuck pretty darn good to the frame. They got everything squared away and I haven't had any issues with the seat post since. Very happy and relieved. I really liked the selection of road bikes they have here. It was definitely fun looking through their inventory while waiting for my bike. Before I left I bought some bars, gels, chain lube (only thing I forgot to bring down) and some other stuff and the clerk put everything in a Serious Cycling branded reusable bag! Totally the best part and I use it for groceries now. If it were a musette I'd probably use it even more. Man this bag is so cool and I've never seen any shop do that.
