I have poor circulation (even at 25), and my hands are usually freezing. These gloves made an immediate difference. The quality is absolutely flawless. Some of the employees seemed a bit new, but then who I believe was the owner stepped in--and it was impressive. He didn't even need to measure my hands; he knew my exact size right away and carefully explained how sizing varies depending on the style and the thickness of the lining. I came to the store today and the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The first pair of gloves I tried had the lining attached only partially, which already raised questions about quality. Sizing was completely inconsistent as well - an 8 in one style was tiny, and in another it was huge - so navigating the assortment was basically impossible. I'll be the odd dude reviewing this place. It was freezing cold today my cheapy wool touchscreen gloves weren't doing me any favors. I remembered that years ago I went into this store with my mom, who was buying herself gloves at the time, and decided to pop in on the off chance they have men's gloves. Turns out, they do! All of the ones I was shown were cashmere lined and the woman behind the counter wasn't shy about shoving various gloves onto my hand, but knew my size immediately upon looking down at my fingers. Within about 5 minutes I had some super warm buttery leather gloves on my hands for a very reasonable $120. I've had some of those bigger leather gloves (think Century 21 in the bin, or even Cole Haan) in the past that are bulky with fat fingers, but these are very lightweight while being incredibly comfortable and leaving you able to move your fingers around as if you weren't wearing any. read more

Not a good investment. I purchased the gloves in the Madison Avenue store last week. The salesman quoted me a price of $500 but I showed him the tag on the interior which stated $350. He said he made a "mistake". The leather gloves were very pretty but the rabbit lining started to shed the same day I purchased them. Also, I was assured the gloves were very warm and would protect my hands from the cold weather of New York. The purchase was made. The salesman cut off the tag and I wore them out of the store. Within 5 blocks my hands were freezing. I returned them to the store and he stated there was no remedy because (a) he had no obligation to do anything since the tag was removed and (b) I had put the gloves on. I disagree since the product was misrepresented and shedding fur. I still had the receipt. To sum it up, the Madison Avenue store misled me about the product quality and thermal characteristics. They also verbally up-quoted the price by $200. I would have done better buying gloves from a street vendor. I found great gloves at Barney's just down the street. The Sermoneta gloves are nice to look at and wear on a warm day but that is useless. read more

I am a glove person. I wear so many different types of gloves that I have an entire small drawer dedicated to them. Not only are they fashionable and warm, they are great for wearing in mass transit (cough cough), especially. If I could wear them year-round, I would, and sometimes will wear the occasional sheer or net pair with a vintage dress in the summer. In fact, almost all of the gloves I own are vintage, because I find construction, quality and fit of today's glovemaking standards to be poor. Having visited Sermoneta on two different occasions, I am now finally convinced that the tradition of quality glovemaking is not dead, however. In the past, we largely imported gloves from Italy, because that is where the best quality were always constructed. Sermoneta gloves are Italian-made and I can see that those high standards continue to this day. Italian craftspeople especially know fit, and they really know leather. I am convinced that the craft and quality of clothing, shoes and leather has been kept alive in Italy due to the country's severe clothing import restrictions, and I praise them highly for thier diligence and dedication to quality craftsmanship. The woman behind the counter at Sermoneta has somewhat of a gruff manner, but she is extremely knowledgeable about the product. She took only one look at my hands and guessed my size, exactly! I know my size 6 1/2 hand very well through my vintage collection, so this surprised me. (Here's a trick to knowing your hand size: wrap the base of your knuckles with a tape measure or string. The measurement in inches is your size :-) I now happily own three great pairs of Sermoneta buttery leather gloves, and they are well worth the price. The fit is incredible, and they wear very well. I love that the fingers perfectly form to my own. I wore one of the pairs so much that I just went back to buy a second pair to replace them. Not all of the styles are continued on, but this was one that they continue to make. They have a multitude of styles (and colors!), from the absolutely wild to the practical. Something for everyone. Do not buy from them online. I purchased gloves for next day delivery. They left a message that they couldn't send them, on my voicemail. I didn't hear the message for two days. They called once, and not again. No emails either. I called back on Sunday (they should have gotten to me on Friday) and explained that I had just heard the voicemail. The person working was unable to find my order. From the sounds of it, there wasn't a system there. She told me she would have to get back to me the following day. When they called on Monday, I told them I didn't need it next day anymore. [I was to give them to a friend on Saturday, and it was clearly too late for that.] I asked that they drop the next day cost ($30) and charge the normal shipping cost ($10). They said they were unable to do that. Additionally, I ordered a light gray pair (available online). The reason for the delay was that they didn't have them. They said they had a beutiful darker gray color. Got them, and they are almost black. Not quite what I was looking for (though some might call them nice) With their antiquated ordering system (I didn't get a confirmation email or receipt even though I registered online) and the lack of customer service, it will be too much of a hastle to send them back. Maybe fine to stop in and work with them in person, but the online experience and lack of follow up on next day orders is not acceptable. The only bright spot is Rafaela. She tried to help as much as she could. I'm sure she would be wonderful in person, but she was limited by the online ordering system and her coworkers there. read more

As far as non-custom gloves go, Sermoneta are very good. Their selection is awesome, they have a zillion colors, the quality is thoroughly acceptable, and they are very nice people to boot. The prices are amazingly reasonable, considering you're buying stuff on Madison Ave. in NY and the gloves are imported from Italy. Seriously. Mid-forearm-length gloves lined in silk or cashmere for under $100. I bought a red wrist-length pair with a scoop design and a longer pair in black and couldn't be happier. There is a reviewer who had a concern about not being able to touch the merchandise in the store. Regarding that comment, I'll say this: If you ask the person behind the counter, she will be more than happy to find the style you're interested in, tell you your size (without measuring), and put the gloves on you herself. There is a cool white leather pad embedded in the counter where you are supposed to put your elbow while she puts the gloves on you. To be perfectly honest, I've never had a sexier experience when trying on merchandise at a store. Go them. The store smells like expensive leather, too, which is always a plus. Note: these are not custom, fetish-quality garments, so they may not meet the standards of the most discerning glove connoisseur. Do not buy your gloves here. Only verbal warranty. Supposedly the warranty is valid for 6 months, but what it entails is not clear to anyone. I asked in the store if they could explain the warranty for their leather gloves. It was explained as follows:"2 months for stitches coming loose, 6 months depending on the problem". Wow. 250$ gloves with less warranty than 15$ gloves at Walmart? It seems they do not have a lot of confidence in the quality of their gloves. For that price you can buy Hestra gloves with a lifetime guarantee. I asked if they could provide me with the written warranty on the gloves. The response was:"We do not have it. We are a family business". This baffles me as any product above 15$ is required by law to have a written warranty statement. Sermoneta Gloves can change the rules of the game as they please, as there is no written warranty. They are not above the law, even if they are a 'family-business'. Unfortunately this did happen to a friend of mine. They promised to send a new pair. Aldo Sermoneta retracted it because he claimed it was outside the warranty. What warranty really? It was Rome where I bought my Sermoneta gloves for the first time. The amount and assortment of gloves were amazing. The customer service - wasn't: a lady was pushy and quite rude, Then I visited Semoneta store at LDV airport in Rome - same story: great gloves, bad service, but I didn't expect anything different in Italy. When I got to New York, I thought I would get the greatest of both worlds - quality and service, as I know you get the best customer service possible in the US. My first visit was very pleasant, the lady was very friendly, helped me to find the right color and size, and I left very pleased, but the 2nd time when I came, there was a guy in the store (not sure if he was a manager or just another employee) watching the same lady work. The experience was absolutely different. I said I was looking for driving gloves, and she couldn't wait to get rid of me, didn't even offer me to look at any different styles of gloves, quickly threw a pair of driving gloves on the counter and rushed to the cash register. I was so surprised that I didn't even ask to show me anything else, just paid and left the store. I don't think I'll be back again. For the money I paid (1 pair was $189, and the other one - $110) I think the customer service could be better. BAD EXPERIENCE: I WON'T BE BACK. I had purchased several pairs of gloves here in years past, and returned to buy three more as Christmas gifts. One pair, oddly, had some issues with the lining, so I returned it, with receipt and 100 percent unworn, to the store. The rather snooty sales girl insisted that they could not be returned because "these gloves have been worn." Sales manager tries to inist that they were worn, but when I compared them to another new pair, it was clear that mine were in perfect condition -- he simply did not want to do the exchange. THEN he decides to tell me that the exchange can't happen because "the gloves are damaged," literally inventing a blemish on one of the fingers. FINALLY, he tells me that it is "impossible that our products are flawed." It's really too bad: I've always loved this store and their products, but I simply CANNOT RETURN after this episode where the staff accuse me of lying and try to pull a fast one on me. Shady sales folks, and an even more shady manager. Does not inspire confidence...and I won't be back. read more

I have been looking to treat myself to a nice pair of gloves this year and work by Sermoneta Gloves. I stopped in and the man that helped me was fairly pushy and kind of rude (which I didn't take too personally at the time b/c I know how stressed people can be over the holidays). I ended up purchasing a beautiful pair of burgundy colored/cashmere-lined gloves. I took them home and noticed under different light that the underside of the fingertips were discolored (almost dark grey). I called the store right away and they said to bring them back in for a new pair. Having a busy full-time job, it took me a few days to get back to the store. When I did make it in I told the story to a different sales clerk behind the counter, who was very kind and willing to make the exchange for me (keep in mind I had the gloves for maybe 4 days), then out of nowhere the guy that originally sold me the gloves comes bursting out and started yelling at me. I kept asking him (calmly) why he was being so nasty and he kept at it - that the gloves he sold me were perfect and I was the one that damaged them...etc. I am a pretty strong person, and he practically made me cry he was being so nasty. I turned around to look at the reaction on the other faces and the owner called me over. At the end of it all he gave me a new pair of gloves, which I was very grateful for. NOW, with the new pair, the cashmere lining is shifting in 2 of the fingers. I will NOT go back into the store to dare exchange them due to the fact I am afraid of being yelled at once again. For $200+ you would expect more! Next time I will stick to Barneys or Saks for merchandise they will actually stand behind. I do not recommend this place and hope that guy gets back what he gave to me - Karma! read more

He had a verry gorgeous pair forest green gloves, so I had to have them, The selection of gloves for men was excellent, so many colors to chose from I bought navy blue, but will go back for green, and orange. Was in NYC on my first trip a few days ago. Saw this shop with the gloves all displayed beautifully in the window - terrific colour range and various lengths. Went in - the saleswoman asked my glove size and I said I didn't know. She just took my hand and in one second said, "Seven and a half - what colour are you looking for?" I bought a beautiful pair of deerskin gloves on a trip to NYC. The salesperson was friendly. The gloves were expensive. After wearing them on 3 business trips, the stitching was coming undone and the leather on the fingers was chafing away. I returned the gloves to the store and they offered no solution other than to say that had I returned them within 2 wks they could have helped me. I have had other fine leather gloves last for years.
