I went there looking for real fur! they sold me fake fur advertising it to be the best! also mentioned how it was special dyed! I didn't realize it was fake until I did a burning test and it also had a tag with "made in China" Wish I was more attentive, I trusted the people working there since they were so kind and thought they had product knowledge. I've been going to Global Leather since I was a student. They have very good price. But their service is TERRIBLE. I asked for some lambskin on the high shelf. This salesman, Leo, threw the leather down to the table then walk away, not even took off the rubber band and helped me to select the skin. And then he gave a the attitude when i asked if the price are the same since the last time I bought those leather. I am very disappointed. read more

I've been going to Global Leather for about 3 years now. The owner Paul and son Jordan have been very very good to me. Accommodating and understanding, really helpful. Good people. When I first started going I worked with Yousef, he was great, but he no longer works there. Now Javier is my guy and he is totally awesome! I spend at least a couple hours in there every time I visit, as I export my skins overseas, so I take my time to make my selections. They allow me the freedom to choose what I need and are always patient. Leo always shows me new items that they get. One time there was also Jody, but don't know if she's still there, she was a joy. Their scrap bins are loaded with great deals and discounts are everywhere. I really appreciate my experience doing business with Global. read more

Youssef = amazing experience Leo = don't even bother going I have been coming to global learners for about a year now and have always been happy! Youssef is a gentleman there who has always helpful and very kind to me. They have a pretty solid selection of leathers, but in a place like this, you need to rely on the employees there to handle the leathers and give you pricing. With this being said, if you get youssef it's a wonderful experience, but if you get anyone else it's either extremely dull or just an overall terrible experience. Today a guy named Leo helped me and he was shockingly terrible. He was extremely rude to me, constantly looking at his phone and talking to his co workers while I am asking him questions or getting quotes. My girlfriend and I were honestly shocked at how much of a dick he was. I work in retail and know what it's like to have a bad day, but Leo was just a terrible employee who could care less about the customers. Today was my last time going there as I refuse to go to a place where I am treated as an inconvenience to them. I stepped into Global Leathers with: a pattern, a plan, and 2 decades of making, sewing and crafting experience. What I did not have was knowledge of leather, so I was glad when I was approached almost immediately by an employee. I began to tell her about my project and right away I could see she thought I was unworthy of her time. She didn't even deem me worthy of looking at, so I just had to talk at the side of her head. When I uttered the word "CRAFT", her painted-on eyebrows lifted and her face took on the most witheringly condescending expression I've ever seen. After my soul un-shriveled a bit, I started to say, "I know what I'm doing I just need a little guidance," but she cut me off and shouted for a young man to assist me. Alex answered my questions, pointed me in the right direction and we completed the transaction without difficulty. 2 star for a great selection and the fact that Alex he managed to do his job - exchange goods for money - without being an asshole. 1 star for the fact that I got to walk away from that lady's mean face, while knowing that she has to live with it every day of her life. read more

I have been here about 3 or 4 times and the service gets worse every time. I am not coming to this place anymore! The leather selection is pretty good but the service is AWFUL! I was looking at this piece of loose leather and one of the staff told me not to open it and ask for help. I told him it was loose already and if he could help me. He said he was on break. It was so hard to find someone to help me! So I brought the piece to ask for the price and another staff member gave me an attitude telling me I shouldn't bring the piece to him and to ask for help or I would be yelled at. I told him I was looking for help but no one was around. And who yells at customers?!! What kind of business are they having?! Amazing service & a huge selectionof leathers. I went there to gather swatches for my shoe construction class. They gave me scissors to get whatever swatches my little heart desired. I felt shy, so got itty bitty swatches, since I didn't want to waste any. They're there when you need help, otherwise you are free to browse & snip as you please. I won't give a one star only because the men who work here are super nice and knowledgable. The one Hispanic woman, not sure if she just doesn't like me even though we've never really engaged in conversation, is always giving me the worst attitude. She has the absolutely worst customer service and is extremely rude. Whenever I walk in, I say hello, and she tells me if I need anything to ask someone else and to not pull out the leathers on my own. First of all, I know the drill. Second, I didn't even ask for help yet she's already telling me to ask someone else. I was there last week and with the help of another gentleman, he allowed me the lay out the leathers to compare colors/textures and she walks by and tells me to move to the other side of the table!! Even though I was there first, she picks up the leathers and THROWS them to the other side and she picks up MY backpack and pushes it across the table. I've never seen anything like this before. Horrible horrible horrible horrible service!!! Only reason I go back is for their selection and decent pricing. -edit went in today to return a skin that just didn't look right when I looked at it in proper lighting (the lighting inside the shop is terrible.). the first gentleman i talked to seemed willing to help me with the refund, but he had to check with his supervisor i guess and that gentleman told me he can give me store credit because its been 5 business days and he doesnt do refunds. that's fine i guess, and I explained to the man that it's unfair to count days they don't open but he dropped the receipt and said "that's not my problem" and walked away. Seeing this happening... another man; Lou, felt bad for me and said he'd walk over to his manager and see what he can do. A few minutes later he came back and did the refund for me. I don't understand what's up with some of the workers here but they act like they're the only leather shop in town. after this experience, i'm going to have to just drop them to a 1 star. they may have a large selection but check MOOD fabric. Came in and was immediately overwhelmed by the HUGE selection. Unfortunately, I needed help as I've never shopped for leather and this place could barely be bothered with my small request. Luckily, I had instructions from my teacher to guide me and when I quickly picked out a remnant and asked Yusef how much, he sensed that I'd soon be on my way. He asked if I was a student and I said I was taking a class. He gave me a discount if I had cash instead of using my credit card. Great! On the way out, I asked another customer on the elevator if Global Leathers was a good place. She said she was in "the industry" and said it was a good spot, great inventory, but that the lady who worked there wasn't very friendly. read more

I love this place and shop here regularly, it's my go to when searching for leather. Its big so there is a lot to see, definitely not the kind of place you rush through on a first visit (and yes at times you have to wait for service...) 3 workers on the floor, 7 customers in the store...do the math, somebodies gotta wait. The place is always busy and is a haven for creative types. Seems everyone wants to talk about what they are doing, wants to see options, obsess over color, texture and whatnot. The great thing is that you can cut your own swatches and the prices are very, very reasonable (in comparison to Mood or Libra). Its an excellent resource if you want to make jackets or bags + they have materials for shoemaking. Lots of furs, shearlings, different colors of curly Mongolian lamb and rabbit plates. read more

I came here looking for leather as this store was recommended to me as the go-to place. The product was definitely great but the service was extremely poor. The older gentleman who helped me was extremely rude, poor mannered and frowning the entire time as he seemed like he had better things to be doing than helping a customer. I do hope in the future that they screen more carefully and hire employees that are more welcoming of customers whether they are pros in fabric knowledge or new and need some guidance. read more

I use to came here a lot to get leather skins, usually there's a lady sales person there being very sweet and helpful. Until today, I came here for laser cut leather skins. I found laser cut swatches on the rack and this salesman walks by and shout out,, those are by orders only. So I reply him with manner, is there minimums for the order? He shouted back with minimum sq. feet. So I told him, I am working on sampling right now, I only need 1 or 2 skins. I ask him to took out one of the laser cut skin piles on the new arrival rack. I choose and pick one skin thinking it should be big enough, I saw it had a 6 marked clearly on the back of the skin. I was told the skin is $12 per square feet, but I was charged for $93. At the moment, I assume tax were applied to order, but when I get back to my office and looked, he put 7.75 sq feet instead. Such a rip off. I will never come back again, I rather have vendors source from oversea... read more

This is the thing, this place has leather and the price is okay for sampling. However, it needs to have more variety in the thickness of the leather. The leather is good and you can get much from this place. I do recommend this leather store. And love the fact you can buy as little and much of what you need. read more

The selection is massive, the service so friendly and helpful. I walked in with only 45 min left before closing time and Leo instantly made me feel comfortable and at ease. I explained what I was looking for and what little understanding I had with the garment industry in general (i was on assignment, running and errand for my boss). He helped turn my experience around, handed me a pair of scissors to select the swatches, and pointed me in the right direction. I had a great time selecting and learning about the materials. Went all over the garment district trying to find real fur and discovered this place while desperately google searching. It's located on the ninth floor of one of three buildings with the address 253 35th St. They have a very nice selection and quality is not the issue, it is hospitality. I think the staff could use a workshop on costumer service. Enough with the wide eyes and blank stares. Open your mouth and speak and when you do have some courtesy? Sigh, New Yorkers. Amazing selection. It is truly the leather and hides center of the universe. All colors, all textures. leather, suede, snakes, ostrich, stingray, laser cut, wovens.. and MORE. Give yourself lots of time to browse because it is easily overwhelming. If you don't know what you're looking for, it's better for you to take your time and look at everything first. Once you get your head wrapped around the inventory they have, then you can have a better idea of what kind of help you need. I found the service to be friendly and helpful. Alex was especially nice to show me all the pelts they had in a specific hide I was interested in. My only complaint is they are not open on the weekend. read more

Today I returned to Global after my negative experience 3 months ago. I was invited back by the owner, Paul through the yelp app. He told me to ask for him and he would provide me with the level of customer service he expects from all of his employees. Paul was very patient, pulling our many leather options for me to look at. He cut a hide of leather for me, which they normally don't do because I only needed enough for a small bag. Paul also gave me a very generous discount and even paid the sales tax himself! He told me he was wondering when I was coming back and expressed his frustration over my previous experience. Paul already made me feel like a life-long client, which I plan to be. He told me to ask for him or his son anytime and texted me from his personal cell in case I need anything or have questions. I found Global leathers in midtown. Excellent place to find shearling, leathers and suede. I worked with a young lady with curly hair. She was quite creative, helpful and seemed generally interested in my projects. The shop even worked with me when some of the products I purchased didn't work for me. If you are looking for a place that has a LARGE variety of leather at reasonable prices, then this is the place for you. I come here primarily to look through their scrap bins and they have so much to choose from that it can get overwhelming. A majority of their scraps are in good condition which is great for small scale projects. The scraps in the bins are not your typical scraps either as you can easily find full or half hides in there and you can just request to cut what you need. I had some interaction with staff here and found it to be a positive experience. Would definitely recommend! read more

REMNANTS GALORE!!!! I'm a jewelry designer and only need remnants. I was sent to Global armed w the knowledge of the lacking customer service and directions to ask for the remnants bin. I must say i have been here a handful of times and have been more than satisfied with the selection i have collected. I too have had Alex as a salesman and he is very friendly and efficient. So overall my experience has been left with memories of great sites and purchases while in this Leather Heaven.
