Alright--I've probably visited this Serrano's at least twenty times and only twice (that I can recall) have I encountered bad service; which merits the 4-stars. If this review was specifically for the 'Happy Hour,' heck I'd put 5-stars and then some; how can you go wrong with $3.00 drinks that pack a punch? Plus they are continually playing sports games on the numerous tv's they have. Their wait staff is fairly good, I have had some of the best dining experiences with Serrano's, however we did manage to score a waiter who neglected to bring 1/2 our order out and waited till the last minute to acknowledge it. Though, I have to give him some credit he did comp our ticket and make up for it with free desert, it still in my book was a fail on his end. On another occasion we ordered drinks with our waiter who seemed to comprehend what we had ordered, only to bring out two of the wrong drinks. Out of twenty visits, only two complaints, it's apparent you should check out Serrano's at Southpark Meadows. You'll enjoy it. I don't recommend the fajitas--if you're looking for those hit up the Texican off Lamar. Their beef fajitas are made a little different than the average Mexican restaurants and are in smaller portions without bell peppers and the taco set-up. Now, I do recommend the Carne Guisada and their chips/salsa. On a side note for parents: they do have the etch-sketch's and crayons for the kids and a great tasting kid's menu. read more

It seems weird that I would be a regular at a three star place. So I am updating my review. I have not been denied extra salsa in a LONG time. That was my main beef. Speaking of beef, I am totally enamored with their ground beef. Get the crisy beef taco, or better yet, the Enchiladas Con Huevos (beef), with Chipotle Sauce. Just awesome. Brunch is always good. I suggest the Migas Con Queso or the afore mentioned Enchiladas Con Huevos. Both of which you can get any time of the day! My husband and I ordered a to go order. I called it in and drove over and it was ready in 15min. Last time we went to Serrano's we were underwhelmed with their queso and quesadilla. However, we loved their happy hour margaritas. We won a gift card so we had to go back, but had low expectations. We ordered a quesadilla, jalapeño poppers, street corn, and sopapillas to split. Everything was presented really well for a to go order. They even gave us chips and salsa! We both were pleasantly surprised with everything we ordered. Maybe last time we went they were having an off day, but we loved our entire meal. The jalapeño poppers were really big. The inside was filled with gooey cheese. The street corn had a really good creamy spicy sauce on top. The quesadillas were perfectly brown and crispy. And to finish it off, the sopapillas tasted homemade and delicious! Great food, great service, awesome music, fun environment, sports on TV... I sat at the bar top for some brunch and just loved the vibes. Their tortillas are hot and fresh and yummy. The breakfast potatoes were just the right amount of crispy. The beans were perfectly seasoned and the migas were smothered in cheese. The music was just loud enough to jam to and to drown out the noise of the really loud man behind me. The salsa has the perfect consistency and amount of spice. I'll definitely be back. My son , daughter in law and I are very disappointed. First time we try this place, my daughter in law and son are vomiting after eating the undercooked shrimp appetizer, the soup tasted like water and the drink I had tasted like a watered down sprite. The food is always consistent. My hubby and I always order the beef fajitas and chicken combo. The beef fajitas are very good, but the chicken fajitas aren't as good as the other Mexican restaurants. The queso and salsa are very flavorful. However the service is very inconsistent. Sometime we have awesome service, and then other times we have to wait for chips and water to be refilled. I hosted a small community event here at Serranos in their smaller side room. It can accommodate up to 60 people. I just wanted to shout out to the manager who helped me arrange the event and also the staff that day. Our event started with a meeting and our server was able to sneak in and take drink orders while being super polite (and quiet.) The whole staff was really nice to work with and I really appreciate the time they took to help me make my event a success. My favorite things here are the Happy Hours, anything with their chicken and their Salsa variety appetizer. They make a pretty decent margarita. I like to sit in the bar area when I go because I think their hightop tables are really comfortable. They also have sports and TVs in the bar area to catch your favorite games. Anyway, the staff was super accommodating so if you're looking for a place to host a large group of people give them a call. read more

I order from this restaurant through DoorDash. I have ordered the same item, 4 times in the last 3 months. As the pics show, they gave me beef enchiladas, but marked the top with cheese. You may not think this is a big deal, but I don't like beef enchiladas and never order them. I called Serrano's and the manager told me I would have to go through DoorDash! I called DoorDash customer service and they gave me a credit. With this pandemic going on, you would think that companies would take care of their customers! While I am grateful that DoorDash gave me a credit and think they are awesome; I don't see why a delivery company should pay for a restaurants mistake!!!! I've lived around the corner from this place for about 3 1/2 years and everyone knows this is my go-to spot. Whether it's brunch on the weekends for some migas and mimosas, happy hour for the awesome margaritas and beef fajitas nachos or a few beers during football/baseball season, this place never disappoints. It honestly kills me to write this review. My husband and I love to eat here. We go there all the time and get it delivered when we are too tired to go there. It really usually is top notch. Tonight we decided to order it to go and pick it up. I called first and was put on a 10 minute hold. My husband called while I was on that hold and was instantly helped while I was still listening to the rolling music. After his order was completed and he was finished with his call, I was then answered. That's not what we are so upset about though. We ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla and soft beef tacos. What we got was far from anything we have ever had there. My quesadilla was freezing cold and had little to no cheese. I honestly don't know what to say about his food because we don't know what he got. He had two enchilada looking things that were filled with 90% peppers and 10% beef. Typically when we order these we have the taco meat, the tortillas and the beautiful fixings to go with it. Not tonight. Being that this is one of our favorite places to eat, we are pretty upset and very let down. The next time we crave our favorite Mexican food spot, it's going to be very hard to want to come back. Love, Love, Love Serrano's and their mesquite smoked tex-mex food...the best....only complaint....since when does an extra taco cost $4.50????? OMG it is a ground beef taco for lords sake with a little beef, little cheese itsy bitsy, and a little tomato..way over priced to get a taco on the side, should really be half that when your entrée cost $13.00 or more....you should fix that. Also will no longer order drinks either, ridiculously priced high for the smallest margarita in Austin, even the large is small and full of ice for $9.00...not worth it. You might want to visit Texas Roadhouse and see a real margarita reasonably price and a nice size...We will of course be back for the food because it is the best but drinks and a $4.50 ground beef taco, not going to happen.....too bad, money lost for you! read more

I've been going to this location for years, I absolutely love this restaurant, it was a delightful surprise to see the menu redesigned and I'm not sure how long Mexican street corn been on the menu but I ordered it along with the Grandes (crispy ground beef tacos) for the first time and it was amazing! My wife ordered the tortilla soup without the corn strips and asked if she could have something other than chips to dip in the queso, the wait staff quickly brought some celery, thank you Laurie our server and John I think was the manager we spoke with. As always we another healthy and satisfying meal here. The restaurant now uses yelp to seat patrons and it worked flawlessly! Me and my daughter went to the Southpark Serrano's location on Sunday, October 7th around 3:30, we were seated immediately but waited almost 10 minutes before the waitress came to take our drink order. We received our drinks and waited another 10 minutes for the waitress to come take our order. The waitress was Bailey which we have had before. She had another waitress deliver our Queso and then another deliver our food. I am sure Bailey recognized us from previously. Our previous visit was 4 mos. to 6 mos. ago when we had her but once we got our drinks and food she totally ignored us. She never refilled a drink glass and anything else for that matter. Never checked to see if we needed anything. The waiter at the table next to us ask is we needed more tea or anything else. He filled out glasses and brought us some more salsa. I am normally a good tipper but on this visit I left nothing for a tip. The manager asked if we were unhappy and I informed him of our experience. He didn't really seem to care. On the visit on Sunday I think Bailey recognized us and it didn't matter because she was not going to go out of her way to make this visit better. She did refill my tea glass once but upon sitting it on the table she slammed it down. When she delivered the bill she never ask if we needed anything else or even a comment that when you are ready here is your bill. I paid the bill and I left $5.00 tip this time. I also wrote a note on the back of the merchant's copy of the credit card receipt. This girl never smiled once and all conversation was very curt nd short. You know a smile goes a long way. These 2 times are not the only bad experience we have had with the wait staff. One other time I am guessing we were not important enough because our waitress that time decided to take a seat at one of her table with her customers and showed them pictures that were on her phone. We waited about 15 minutes that time just to get our ticket and we could have used a refill on our drinks prior to getting the ticket. Service from waitress was awesome. The food was great. However, the manager on duty left a lot to be desired. As I left he walked right in front of me - without saying 'excuse me' or anything. Then I took a mint and a toothpick. He had an opportunity to say 'thanks for coming in' but he said nothing. (This is referring to the manager on duty on Thursday evening May 15th around 9:00PM) Very rude - which might explain other problems at this location. My husband took me to Serrano's for my birthday and I really do love their other locations. It was the first time at this location. I love the location and the whole look and feel of the place. Because it's hidden and on this hill, it's a great place to sit al fresco to eat a birthday meal. I'm usually pretty critical about Mexican food. I come from San Antonio and well their Mexican food is pretty hard to beat. However, for Serrano's I will make the exception. The carne guisada was super tender, just like the way my grandmother would make melting in your mouth. The rice was also very yummy. I love the salsa because it was mild and very flavorful. Now here's why I'm gonna go again. This place serves sopapillas. They're a fried pastry eaten with honey and they are SOOOOOOOO GOOOOODDD!!! I haven't found a place in Austin that remotely serves sopapillas (at least not the ones I grew up with.) This made for an excellent birthday treat! I wasn't impressed with my waitress. I took myself and two kids in for a early dinner. The place wasn't busy but my waitress obviously had friends at the other table because at one time she actually sat down at the table to hang out with them! I was waiting for drink refills. My chips were kind of stale too but I never got to tell her because she took too long. I had been there before and my waiter was better so not every person there is incompetent when it comes to waiting tables. I ordered a taco, rice, and refried beans. I guess I expected more from Serrano's after having them cater an event I went to. The food for catering was SO delicious! This time was a let down though... The queso was literally... cheese water. The fourth star is for personal preference: I'm a vegetarian, and their Pacifico rice and their black and refried beans are both vegetarian here, unlike most other places. Otherwise, I'd just give it three. I come here a lot not because it's super, but because it's close by to where I live.
