We had a water leak, and the shutoff valve for the unit did not stop it. Spencer K came out and inspected the shut off valve, and was able to adjust it so the leak stopped. Replacing the water shutoff valve would require turning iff the water for all the townhouse units, so he noted that is often done with 48 hour notice. He saw the age of the water heater and recommended we replace it soon. He gave a quote for replacing the water shutoff valve alone or with the water heater. He was very professional and friendly, and respectful of my home. I would have him back anytime! read more

I bought a furnace through Robinson Heating and Cooling and their service was excellent. My maintenance contract was recently sold to Service Experts. Bad news for me, My thermostat went out yesterday and I scheduled an appt for service (using their online portal) and requested that my annual "maintenance" be done in same visit. Website scheduled me between 12-4pm today. At 7am they called to tell me that I'd have to wait 6 weeks for the maintenance to be done separately. Apparently their maintenance contract forces me to be available for two separate visits as their thermostat technician cannot do maintenance too. Their customer service was terrible. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told I'd have to wait for them to call me back. I am a widow. I live alone. I am uncomfortable with strangers in my house, but I need repair/maintenance on the system they are contracted to service. They were adamant that they COULD NOT accommodate both services in one visit. I am appalled by the inflexibility and lack of effort to understand and help me. read more

Unfortunately, I've had several negative experiences with one of their service technicians. I asked that he not return to my home and they still sent him another time. They were unable to identify a problem, however I called a second company and they identified and fixed it the following day. I was a part of their monthly service program, and had a small issue needing to replace a $16 end cap on our access pipe. The rep came, looked in his van to see if he had one, said that he did, and then quoted me $233! I refused the service and they still charged me $84 for a service call, even though Golden Seal sold me their monthly program with the benefit of never having to pay for a service call. Wow! I have been helping my elderly sister with her finances after she suffered a fall and brain bleed. She got a new ac unit from comfort masters in 2011. In July her ac went out and they told her she needed a new unit. She got it, unbeknownst to me and they set her up on a ten year payment plan which would have cost her more than $8,000 more than if she just paid for it. I feel like they took advantage of an elderly woman who was not understanding things properly. read more

The service consultants are fine. But absolutely avoid their Advantage Program. They recently did something to their billing system - sent several emails stating their system was going to delay sending bills. Due to traveling, I generally pay several months in advance. I received an email stating I owed for July. My records show I paid through August......on my first call, they claimed I owed all the way back to April. My second call failed having them see or accept that I paid for 8 months - but at least they stopped saying I owed back to April. So I paid for July AGAIN just to not have my credit score affected. DO NOT USE Service Experts in Wheeling, Il for HVAC. Worst installation and service ever! They are deceptive, dishonest, unprofessional, and way overpriced for installation and service calls and repairs. Constant issues with improperly installed LEMON Lennox High-Efficiency furnace since 2013. Service Experts experimented with replacing many parts including cleaning the clogged furnace hoses on two different calls when the furnace stopped working, replacing the Pressure Switch, replacing the Blower Motor Module, replacing the defective leaking Collector Box, and replacing the cracked leaking Draft Inducer Motor. Their Parts and Labor Warranty is a joke! Their dishonest Area Manager from Wisconsin (B J Canning) should be FIRED after the TWO times that he proposed coming out to examine the constantly non-operating furnace. He stood me up for two different appointments on November 10 and then again on November 30, 2022. He did not even call to say that he was not coming out for our scheduled appointments! When I called to see why he was so late, he said that he was on a "more important" appointment in INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA! WHAT!? Are there no phones in Indianapolis? When I requested estimates for new HVAC equipment, Service Experts' estimate for identical equipment was over $10,000, which was almost TWICE the cost of several other reputable area HVAC company estimates that I called out. When I contacted Lennox Industries Headquarters in Richardson, Texas, and also in Illinois, I was told to trust their Accredited Installer Service Experts. NO ONE at Lennox or Service Experts takes responsibility for their defective Lennox furnaces or their improper installation or their faulty and unprofessional service. We had a routine furnace maintenance recently with golden seal because the house we moved into hadn't had the unit inspected in a few years. Golden seal found a crack in the furnace and said carbon monoxide was leaking and recommended a new furnace. We have small children so we were concerned about the leak and wanted a new unit asap. The following day a sales person from golden seal came out and was at our home for four hour going over options and financing. This was a very tedious process as we have three kids four and under my husband and I were also trying to care for at the same time as this pitch. Golden seals best furnace and AC combo was quoted at $20k, a price that I know now with research is insanely high. Their "cheaper" furnace units were only about $1000 cheaper. It was recommended we get the new AC too since both of ours were 20 years old. Several of the finance options presented to us ended up not being available when calling for approval. (My credit is very good so that wasn't the issue, our sales person just had the wrong information.) This whole experience dragged on for so long. The sales person clearly wanted this sale for his end of the year numbers (it was December 29th) and said we couldn't think it over and he was uncomfortable even stepping into another room so my husband and I could talk. Long story short, one of the selling points of this "state of the art" furnace was the smart thermostat would be eligible for a rebate with ComEd and Nicor. Well both those companies needed an itemized invoice showing the price of the smart thermostat. Our sales person who we reached out to several times after our purchase and golden seal directly couldn't give us this document. We just have one invoice for a massive $20k price that has everything combined. You would think after spending this money they could have made sure we had what we needed to submit the paperwork for the rebates we were told we qualify for. I have huge buyers remorse and regret not doing more research before this purchase. I am very disappointed. read more

I always have terrible times whenever I get calls about regular maintenance service scheduling. Not only the technicians arrive late, they visit without any shoe covers and do not take them off. And when scheduling office is called for late arrivals or whereabouts of the technician, instead of apologies, I get the scheduling person repeating if I want to reschedule the appointment or not. Lucky if you've been getting good service from them, but be aware of their advantage program and what you are signing up for. read more

He was very pleasant, arrived on time (letting us k ow by phone that he was on the way. Confort Master has been very easy to do business with. Do not hire this company for anything related to gas piping. Supposedly one of their best technicians, Spencer could not figure out how to fix a gas leak. Day one, Spencer comes out with a gas sniffer that was continuously beeping. This is a indicator that his gas sniffer was not working properly, and/or needed batteries. Peoples Gas, who was there before Spencer, used a gas sniffer that identified where the slight leak was with a working gas sniffer that only beeped where the leak was detected. Spencer then goes to the basement and pulls off the safety lock that Peoples Gas had placed when turning off the gas. Spencer lied and said he needed the gas on to check for the leak. If Spencer had proper equipment he would have been able to check for the leak, not having had to remove the safety lock. Spencer left the job, stating the leak was no longer detected and to call Peoples Gas. Peoples Gas came out & took photos of the gas meter where Spencer removed their lock. Peoples Gas again identified same pipe that still had slight leak. Day 2, Spencer comes to repair gas leak. He replaced a T pipe. He then says job is complete and to call Peoples Gas. Once again since Spencer was not experienced to repair a gas leak, Peoples Gas still detected a gas leak. Peoples Gas identified that Spencer did not use the correct pipe dope when installing the T pipe. Peoples Gas had the correct pipe dope and left it for Spencer to redo his work. Spencer, on his 3rd visit, removed the T pipe, cleaned off the incorrect pipe dope and used the pipe dope that Peoples Gas had left. Spencer once again said to call Peoples Gas. Peoples Gas came out for their 4th visit and was finally able to turn the gas back on. This was an easy job since this is a first floor 2 Bedroom condo with one bath. Nick, the Operations Manager stated Spencer was their best technician and that no charges would be adjusted. Nick indicated Peoples Gas does not use proper equipment and that the safety lock is always removed. Nick insisted Spencer had proper equipment, however clearly he did not if Peoples Gas had to come out 4 times. Peoples Gas identified that Spencer was using the wrong pressure gauge, resulting in inaccurate gas readings. Read the other one star reviews. This company is not consistent of having qualified technicians do the work. read more

I had Comfort Masters at our condo on Nov 29, 2023 because our furnace was working sporadically. I had to flip the power switch to the furnace to 'kick in the heat'. They sent a technician (Alex) out to our condo, and after inspecting the furnace he assured me it was the thermostat. I had a new thermostat installed for $193 for the instillation, plus the cost of the ecobee smart thermostat I had purchased previously at Best Buy. He said the original (3 years old) thermostat was "fried". On Jan 13, 2024 the heat was working sporadically again. Before calling Comfort Masters I called the ecobee help desk and with the technician's assistance, he troubleshot the thermostat and furnace and his conclusion; "it was potentially the furnace flame sensor at fault". I again called Comfort Masters, they sent a technician the next morning (Alex). His report, after looking at the furnace using ecobee's report as a guide, was a faulty gas valve and two motors, all needing replacement. His advice was to install a new furnace, and within 20 minutes there was a salesman from Comfort Masters at my door. He attempted to sell me a $10,000 furnace, then reduced the price down to $8000. I live in a small condo and I thought the price was excessively high. Instead, we opted to have repairs done at the cost of $2,554. My question is this, why didn't the technician who came out November 29th see these problems? Nor did the technician who came out Nov 30th to double-check the work done the day before. Both Alex and Tony gave the furnace a thumbs up and said it was operating properly and said there were program issues with the ecobee thermostat. Now, on Jan 15th, the furnace is overheating and needs replacing? How do you go from furnace operating as it should to entire furnace needs replacement in the sake of six weeks. One of the motors was rusted, couldn't that be seen on a visual inspection? Note: On Jan 16th we had the required repairs done on the furnace at the cost of $2554. The technician Yury did the full repair. He got the furnace up and running safely once again. I trusted Yury to complete repairs, and as far as I can tell, did a great job since the furnace and thermostat are working in tandem again. But, Buyer Beware on Comfort Masters. I can't trust what they tell me. I am planning on canceling my 'membership' with them and will find another HVAC company to work with. read more

Nigel and Joshua were terrific. Our SpacePak went out on the morning of hottest day in Chicago in years and they came over within hours of us getting in touch. They fixed the problem (algae buildup in the drainage tube, gross, and issues with our filter) and explained what we could do in the future to avoid this and other problems. Even as they climbed around our roof and sweated it out in our brutally hot attic, they were extremely pleasant to work with. I think their price was very reasonable for the work done. Even one star is too high a rating after my experience trying to schedule a repair. I made arrangements to have my thermostat/furnace control serviced after a recent power outage and surge messed up the unit. I called to make an appointment and their automatic answering service suggested making the appointment on line. I followed their suggestion and scheduled the appointment and I received a confirmation of receipt. The appointment was scheduled for a 4 hour window today. No one showed up and not one called. When I called to inquire I was told that they sent me multiple emails asking for additional confirmation and willingness to pay additional charges. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY FOLLOW UP EMAILS, TXTs or even a courtesy call. And my furnace and controls had been installed by Golden Seal! GS embodies the problem with digital customer service and why customers are growing dissatisfied with companies that hide behind repeated problems with online e service requests. It's too easy to blame it on "the computer " which in reality is blaming the customer for something totally under the control of the company. Find another company to handle your business because Golden Seal isn't worth the hassle. read more

Every spring we receive the tune up specials in the mail. We called comfort masters for an appointment and set one one up for a Monday. No show, no call , no nothing. I called that evening and they apologized rebooked for next day. That morning I wasn't taking any chances so I called to confirm and just so happens I was booked for a month out and NOT that day which I was assured of. They apologize and send a technician out that evening and he tells me my 11 year old unit is basically shot because of a broken compressor. Lucky for me they just so happen to have a salesman in the area ready to sell me this new program where your basically pay a monthly installment for the rest of your life to them. It seemed so entirely shady that I called a local guy and he couldn't believe an 11 year old unit would be shot. He came by for free and took a quick look and saw the coolant was low and filled it up for $200 and the unit still works great. So to summarize, comfort masters overbooked me and blew me off then came by and lied to me about my unit just so I would purchase a new system through their program to keep you trapped to their company for literally the rest of your life and then some, since they would attach a lien to your house for the program. Cody was our service guy and let me tell you he was the man for the job. We had sewage back up occur in two different instances, first time they came in rodded out pounds of roots got us flowing, second time they had to dig out a 5 foot hole in our back yard to to gain access and install clean out point. Removed another couple more pounds of roots and got our pipe leading to the main so looking damn near new. Highly recommend these guys for ANY lumping issues. read more

Earlier this week two of your technicians came to perform their six month inspection on our HVAC system. During the course of their inspection they found that our hot water tank was leaking. We ultimately purchased a new hot water tank which was installed today by John Rybicki and Gerarao. Both men were thorough and explained what was wrong. Equipment installed flawlessly. The sales guy, Bruce, promised us things he couldn't deliver (wireless remotes was one item among others). During the install, we noticed the mini split units serial number didn't match the ones on the contract we signed. Fine but we still haven't received confirmation that our current unit works in -20 degree weather, which in Chicago, is necessary! We haven't heard from the GM or Bruce in a week and a half regarding rebates, warranty, and account status information. We financed the other half of the payment and still haven't heard how much or approval status from the company or finance company. If you have a simple install, great company, once things get complicated, horrible company. Look elsewhere. Apparently, this isn't the first time they've withheld rebate information from customers. UPDATE: The GM, Dave is amazing. Mark is the only lead installer we will allow into our house! They came back out and replaced the unit with 2 units that reach down to -20. They also replaced an inside unit with a 15,000 BTU unit and we have been space heater free for 72 hours! Dave even processed a rebate for us. Dave kept my husband and I updated throughout the replacement process because it was ultimately Fujitsu that provided them with false information. read more

If I could rate this company a zero I would!!! Absolutely horrible customer service. We got a hot water heater from them last year. Their statements do not show remaining balance and when you call to inquire they don't ever call you back. We called 7x before we finally got someone to call us back. Only to be told we can't pay off the water heater early "bc it voids the warranty". Pretty sure this is illegal! To add insult to injury they quoted us 70k for two new ac and furnace units. The $15 monthly charge for annual membership is supposed to equate to $180 a year for 2 visits, spring and fall. Only twice now I have caught two $15 charges in one month on my credit card. I've called 3 times to disenroll and get a credit for the overcharge. Still waiting for Comfortmasters to purge my credit card info from their system, despite multiple calls. He was efficient, knowledgeable, and was the first person to challenge the lock combination to release the ladder for access onto the roof of our building. I have sent other technicians up with a combination that was apparently incorrect. not sure how those people got on the roof, but I know for sure that Nick was up there! I like the professionalism of this business, as well as the sense that they truly know what they are doing, and are willing to help out as necessary. We waited an entire day, until 9:35 pm. No call. Nothing. My wife called them THREE TIMES during the day; all three times, the agent said we were "still on the schedule." Yet, no one showed up.
