A perfect example of dysfunction, miscommunication and horrible customer service all wrapped in in one big conglomerate of a company. I've been a customer of the smaller, family owned companies they bought out and BOY DO THEY SUCK NOW. The hand does not know what the ass is doing. They company is located in Wheeling now and all of theor techs have to go there first- so- if you live in the city and need an 8am-10am service call you might as well take a day off of work. Answering service that doesnt communicate with the technicians. An office that can send a sales rep out in an hour but days or weeks to get a tech out. The technicians are nice but frustrated guys now working for a big faceless uncaring man. Go with a smaller, family run company where they still care care about their customers and their employees- Comfort Masters DOES NOT. read more

We hired Comfort Masters in January 2019 to add Unico A/C. Since then it has been nothing but trouble. The first warm day of 2020 I noticed an issue with the A/C, they sent someone out to 'clean' it, but nothing was resolved. I called again, they someone else out. It wasn't until I complained to the manager that they sent their most senior installer to run a full diagnostic, we then learned that the unit was installed incorrectly. We finally started to see some improvements, but honestly, I just gave up fighting. I was very pregnant, then baby came early, then it was Fall. We've had some hot days this year and my house will not get below 76 degrees and that is with the A/C running ALL day. It is very expensive to run the A/C and I am never truly comfortable in my house. Please don't hire them, and save yourself the aggravation and money. read more

I schedule a service to repair my AC. The scheduler gave me a discount for $49.99 to check. However, I still receive a bill for $99.99. The service engineer came and check and said the unit is non-repairable. I need a report to claim for my credit card for extended warranty. I asked for a detailed report. They said they will send me one by email, but never received. read more

They wanted about $300 to replace a thermostat that was under warranty in which they installed less than five years ago. Ridiculous!

They came to restart furnace last year, below zero, 2nd day no heat. I said do NO maintenance ie sensor wipe off as we have free lifetime maintenance with furnace install and they are coming for regular annual apt later, early evening. He said no such thing as free and charged extra $65 to just wipe off little sensor I had told him not to touch. He pitched for their maintenance saying price would be lot less, again saying no such thing as free. Two prices, one with maintenance and greatly inflated one without. No one ever did that before. Maintenance is an annual checkup/cleaning not minor repair. Then he pitched early replacement of small motor going out, showed on device?? Wanted me to order immediately so get in couple days before it died. Wrote estimate for thousands. I said no our company will check later. Our company said not slightest thing going wrong with simple motor and if needed it was couple hundred and in stock. We had different type contractor out next day who also did furnaces, so I asked him to check motor with his device...same answer. Now I question if it needed the big "leaking" part he charged a lot for since only 2 yrs old & a high end furnace. Probably was a simple setting or door ajar, according to the others. Don't pay anything til get other free opinions first. Now can't stop them from calling about every day with voice mail deals. They just want a foot in your door. read more

I just wanted to reiterate how happy we've been with Golden Seal! They are so quick to respond to our issues, they are honest and they have such kind employees! Cesar came out recently to help us with an A/C issue (A/C issue in late September! AHH) and he was super friendly and quickly identified our problem. He was here on a late Friday afternoon and we couldn't get the part we needed until Monday. But, he told us how to reset the machine if it goes out again and we were able to do that through the weekend to survive the heat. Then, when he returned the following week, he of course fixed our unit quickly but he also asked about the football game on Saturday that he remembered I was going to. My 92-yr-old mother requested service for her faulty thermostat. Roy came out and noticing her fading mental capacity proceeded to take advantage of her by over-charging for a new thermostat. He charged $383 for a simple Trane thermostat. Ridiculous? You bet. Add on $99 for the service call and Roy left my Mom with a $482 bill. For a thermostat. Nice guy. This borders on Elder Abuse, for which there are laws in place to protect the elderly. I asked Chris the Area Manager to break out the charges for the $383 thermostat; he wouldn't do it. Why not? Good question. Hiding something? I'd bet on it. Chris says the case is closed. Not quite. I am communicating with the Wheeling Police Department about what action is appropriate. These people are disreputable. More like Scam Masters. Steer clear. There are plenty of other reputable service folks available in the area that would never take advantage of an old woman and likely do a professional, honorable job at a fair price. I have had multiple frustrating and disappointing interactions with this company. Today was the last straw. I had to have a meter changed by People's Gas. The less-than-four-year-old thermostat went out and would not re-boot. Called service and paid labor costs to replace a thermostat under warranty with one not under warranty, or spend $800 for the new model- which would not be available until after Monday. So now with neither labor nor parts under warranty, I no longer have a reason to use this company. Good riddance. read more

Day 1. Harris comes out 2 hours later than window, no call. Can't do anything due to ice build up. Says he'll come back the next day and bring filter specific to my unit. Day 2 Jorge comes out 2 hours late, no call says there must be a leak somewhere. He got no feedback from Harris, knows nothing about promised filter. Can't fix it because he's not an installer but says he'll set up an appointment for the next day. Day 3. No call. Office knows nothing about an appointment. I call. At 4:30, Roy arrives. No info from either Harris or Jorge. I explain the situation. He's not an installer. He calls Jorge who says he never told me there was a leak. He then has me speak to Jorge. Wtf. This place is a 3 ring circus. 3 days of waiting. I still don't know what the problem is. read more

I bought my new furnace from golden seal through Costco and had recently scheduled annual maintenance in Nov 2020. I have been receiving error code 271 on thermostat panel for couple of weeks, so I shared this with the technician. I was told that he is new to HVAC business and has only been taught to do maintenance service and can't help troubleshoot or tell what that error code means. I asked him to look up the error message using the error code on the furnace panel that lists all the error codes, but he still couldn't do anything. He didn't even bother to open the filter cover to check the filter, which they always do during service. I paid $89 for a newbie to come in and vaccum some dust around the furnace, while I continue to get that error code 271 - Low Press Switch Open. Since I bought my furnace from golden seal and have 10 year warranty on parts, I have to schedule service through them and pay $99 for another trip. I don't mind paying for the service, but why can't hire and send someone experienced who can get the job done the first time. I am regretting buying my furnace from golden seal and would not recommend them to anyone. I am surprised that they are a Costco provider. Find someone else who cares about the work and not just about money. I would have given them no stars, if that was an option read more

He also didn't try any of those skeevy pitches, where they try to get you buy things through ignorance and fear. Golden Seal sent a tech out to service my furnace that was not working, informed the tech that their has been water lately around the base of furnace on his arrival. The tech got the unit running again and said the pressure switch was starting to go out. I asked for a quote for the price for part and repair. The tech gave me a quote for a Lenox furnace my other furnace, not the Carrier furnace that was being service. (wow!) Later that night a notice water again by the base of furnace , so I googled the problem and it said to check the Condensate trap on removing the hose from the invertor a large amount of water came out, remove the trap clean it, it was clogged put back together and the furnace runs great with no water leaks, tested the pressure switch working fine. Another words the simple fix was unclogging the trap and saved over 500 dollars. It took 20 minutes for the simple fix. Save your self a headache, hire a real professional and professional company. read more

Totally wasted my time and an insult that I would be so naïve as to agree to a 120 month payment plan for a new dual unit that I didn't need. Had high hopes for this company but was very disappointed. They didn't show up on the appointment, no calls at all so i called them twice and they said they will escalate to their General Manager and will provide me feedback in an hour but nothing. Seriously if this is how you do business please go back to the basics of customer service. If you can't deliver pls be courteous enough and tell your customer it won't happen and not just ghost us. Terrible experience. Up to now, waiting for a feedback or apology but nothing. Twas a good thing I was able to find a reliable tech who fixed my AC. read more

I recently had two new Lennox air conditioning systems installed at my home. They are working fine, and meet all my expectations. The two technicians who installed the units were Juan and Jose, and there was were prompt and efficient. However, there was problem with the existing control wiring which ran under a deck. There was one wire less than was needed. They came back the next morning with instructions about how to work around the problem, but it did not work. Nick was eventually dispatched and resolved the problem All three workmen did an excellent job. However, rather than one working day, it took from Wednesday morning until the following Monday afternoon before the units were running. This was not the fault of the installers, but the system required one more existing control wire under the deck than was there. When it didn't work, on Thursday I was promised that Nick, the troubleshooter, would be out on Friday morning to solve the problem, but no one came. I called the Comfort Masters office four times during the day on Friday trying to find out what was supposed to be happening to my system, and four times talked with a different person each of whom said they could not contact the one in charge of the work schedule at the moment, but they would do so, an someone would call back soon. No one called back on Friday, or Saturday or Sunday. My last phone call on Friday was answered by a man who told me the on-call scheduler would call me back, but I no longer had any faith that would happen, so I asked if I could call the scheduler directly, and was told that he was not allowed to give that phone number out. Monday afternoon, Nick came out and solved the problem by installing a transformer at the AC units which enabled the thermostats to work properly with the wires which were already in place. So, I have good equipment, installed by good workmen but my one day installation took five days, mainly because of poor communications in the Comfort Masters office. Nick was apologetic, and offered to include an extra year of full service on the units because of the delays in getting them started up. If you are a potential customer, I would suggest you ask their telephone operator if you can speak directly to the scheduling department, and if they tell you that is not possible, I would look for a different contractor. read more

When you buy a new furnace, you hope nothing goes wrong. If something does go wrong, you're going to wish that you had bought it from Golden Seal Service Experts. How many times do you buy a new furnace in your life? Once, maybe twice? So, it can be hard to choose. I did a lot of research and found that Lennox was one of the top rated units. We are big Costco fans and since there's a partnership with Lennox and Costco, it was an easy decision. We chose to get the Lennox EL96V two-stage, variable speed furnace. We did get quotes from other companies. They were all pretty competitive. Right away, we noticed a tremendous improvement in the comfort in our home - no more 'too hot' and then 'too cold.' It was consistently comfortable, even in rooms that were normally cold. However, there was also a noise that we didn't have with our previous furnace - it sounded like a whine, sort of like a vacuum cleaner running. I contacted the office and they sent a few technicians out to address the issue. They started with adjusting some of the settings on the furnace. They replaced the motor. Then they made some changes to the duct work. The sound persisted and they elevated the issue to Lennox corporate, who sent over a representative to help resolve the issue. I had multiple visits and got to meet a lot of their technicians: Josh, RJ, Mike, Mark, Dan, and Miguel. All were very professional and courteous. I was very comfortable having them in my home. Service Experts made some significant changes to my system (filter, duct work, and insulation) that was not part of the original estimate - AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO ME! Ultimately, the issue required some special components from Lennox. I certainly hope that you do not have to have multiple visits to your home. You want it installed right the first time. But, if that isn't the case and you do have issues, you want to make sure that you are working with a company that will stand behind their name and promise of satisfaction. I want to especially recognize David Vick for being a professional and demonstrating unwavering accountability. That is very hard to find in the world today. Too many people are looking for the easy way out; want to play a victim; and try to divert blame. David took ownership of the issue and stood firm that he would ensure my 100% satisfaction or he would happily refund my money. David was a big part of the reason why I continued to work with Golden Seal Service Experts to get this resolved. If he was willing to commit the effort and resources, I was willing to work with him. In the end, I am glad that I did, because we have a new furnace that is comfortable, more efficient, and quiet! I would strongly recommend going with Golden Seal Service Experts. In fact, I would be willing to pay more, just to have the comfort knowing they have my back if something goes wrong. read more

We were referred to their services through another resident in our apartment building who had a similar issue just months prior. She had a very positive experience with them as well. They came out as soon as possible and began working on a fair estimate to replace the entire unit. It was installed the same day. They were professional, courteous, and above all, very knowledgeable. We worked with Dave G. to arrange the install and Sharon W. at the office. Both were top notch. Of course, these are the types of things you hope to hear about how companies treat their customers, but it is not always the case, and certainly not common during such an 'emergency' situation. The sales rep Ross, kept his scheduled appointment, provided pertinent information on available selections and enabled several rebates, allowing for a cost effective solution. Installation was quickly scheduled prior to a forecast weekend heat wave. Installation was quickly and efficiently accomplished, without any difficulty. Overall we are satisfied with this company's performance, by it's personnel as well as with Costco, and will use again for service. read more

We have been using them since we bought our furnace/AC unit about 10 years ago. Have never truely been happy with their customer service, but since we purchased the units from them kept going back. In the past couple years they have really gone down hill. I am not sure why they even bother to have appt times. They are never on time and on a more than a few occasions they have actually called me to cancel appt with me the day of because they were running so far behind they were never going to get to me! So I took time off work for nothing, 3 times!!! This is the straw that broke me and I will not be going back to them anymore. Have an appt for between 8-10am, get a call the day before to tell me the techs have a meeting that may run longer than 10am and is that ok? WHAT?! No, it's not ok, I made the appt for a reason! Horrible customer service, the techs are friendly, but you can tell they are not happy dealing with customers that have been given the run around from their customer service dept and are already unhappy when they arrive. Will definitely be looking for a new AC/Heating company to service my needs going forward read more

We had Comfort Masters replace our furnace and hot water heater recently. First, the hot water heater they installed was a different and cheaper brand/model than what they sold us and was listed on the invoice. No explanation and no call back after multiple messages to them to address the issue. Then the hot water heater they installed failed twice within one week of installation. We got this company by calling Furnace Repair Chicago when our furnace stopped working. Apparently they work together so we had a technician from Comfort Masters come out. He told us we needed a part and that to order the part and replace it would be over $650. We googled the part online and it cost $50. When we inquired as to why the final cost was over 10x the cost of the part he had no response. The technician was also rude and complained about finding parking and was late. This company is not only over priced but is predatory-we expect a markup obviously but this is outrageous. We will never call them again. read more

My system went out and I called Len at Comfort Masters who sent out a technician who recommended a new system which we knew we needed. The techs Neil and Joshua showed up Friday morning and worked until the A/C and Furnace were both replaced . When they left the home was spotless and our new system was explained to us and how to use the new thermostat. A very good experience given these things never go out at a good time.
