Communication was fast and responsive in the beginning when the water damage happened. Then the weekend team follow up was minimal and wished I could get earlier alerts via text so we know when they are coming out. There was one guy who was pretty good. The demo man was good too. We ended up not using them based on just one interaction with the guy who came out to do an estimate. As he was inspecting the water leak in our kitchen, he made comments about the workmanship of the countertops, and how poorly they were done. Yes, I have a little problem with the countertops, I'm not entirely happy with them, either. However, my husband did those counters and he tried his best. I can say stuff about them, but YOU can't. You know nothing about anything to do with this house, and making derogatory comments to the homeowner is completely unprofessional. I didn't want to hire them only to find other areas in which they are unprofessional. If I could give negative stars i would!!!! My insurance company hired them for water damage clean up. They didnt remove all of the damaged carpet and sub flooring and drywall that they ripped out of the house. They just left half of it in my front yard. After calling and calling them and them making promises to come pick up the remaining debris and them not doing so i called my insurance about it. They were confused because the company billed them for having a dumpster on site for the entire week they were here. And also claimed that they removed debris in their van every visit. So after the insurance found out they lied about having a dumpster here they uncovered other fraudulent claims to increase the amount of money they would recieve. read more

I had a total bathroom water loss event in a condo I rent out. Service Master helped mitigate and repair the problem. I was completely disappointed when the shower surround install and caulking started to fail not long after the warranty expired. I was ignored and then told they couldn't help due to expired warranty. A brand new shower surround and caulking shouldn't fail a year after install. Totally let down. Beware. read more

They sent an invoice for payment (our insurance ended up sending me the check vs. them) and I complained about the service I received (they made is worse, not better) and was trying to resolve that issue before I paid the invoice. I finally just paid it as I was tired of the run around over and over from the staff here. To my surprise they put a mechanics lien on my dead mother's home and the new owners reached out to my agent. Funny, the $400 fee is now a $800 fee. They are crooks and will screw your insurance company for everything they can. EDITED 10/28/21 - Yes, I sent several emails to Mary Swanson who seemed more worried about doing a bunch of extra work than doing what I asked to be done. I quote: "Based on what we've seen, it appears that the carpets were saturated in areas that were not we before.  Specifically the carpet at the bottom of the stairs that is now discolored and looks 10x worse than before.  Also, carpet over in the bar area.   The carpet was not wet when we discovered the issue." I also asked for an estimate for the remaining work and your "project manager" told me that it would cost $350 to provide it to me. I contacted ServiceMaster for odor removal service. Stephen Carruthers came to my home for the appointment. He did not see visible mold or any source of the odor. Instead of having me spend money on one of their odor removal methods, he referred me to a company called Rose Environmental to find out the source first, and then treat it accordingly. He invested his time in travel and in my home without making a profit. It gives the confidence that he and the company he works for is ethical and honest. read more

My experience with ServiceMaster is not a happy ending. I selected them specifically because I expected they would help me through the whole process of getting my home back. I had them come out to review an issue in my front room and give us an estimate. An hour after the agent (Maria) left a pipe burst in our laundry room (completely unrelated to the first issue) At that time the agent was great, she had a team in who quickly dried out the laundry room and ended up removing flooring, drywall and part of the subfloor. We then had a plumber look at the pipe and it required the entire house to be re-piped because the CPVC was old and it was going to just cause more damage down the road. So now I had three problems in the home that needed to be fixed: Laundry Room, drywall holes from the re-pipe, and the issue in the front room. The laundry room build back was the most urgent as it's an entryway into the home. But all three issues were things that ServiceMaster said they could help me with. And yet they didn't help me with any of them! Once they moved their fans out of the home, ServiceMaster immediately started ghosting both me and the insurance agent. She kept telling us she would send over the quote by day X for us to review so that we could get on the calendar, then when I called she'd move the deadline. This happened several times before she started dogging our calls, and wouldn't even get us on the calendar. Working with them turned into a nightmare. I knew there was a backlog, and I was understanding and reasonable on my expectations. But to completely ghost your customer in the middle of a project, when the world is trying to get back to normal - is beyond unprofessional. It's downright cruel. read more

If you had some damage, you may need servicemaster to help clean up, as there are not many companies to choose from that do their type of work. But NEVER take their word for anything. Their sole purpose is inflating insurance prices to make big bucks. They repeatedly assured us that services would be covered by insurance and that they were aware of total coverage. That was a COMPLETE lie!!!!! Everything they did had an inflated price tag and was done without regard to insurance coverage. One exame was the installation of a light fixture. This was just a standard light fixture that needed nothing other than being hooked up. Their bill for this was $440. They sent two electricians who were there approximately 20 minutes. They didn't provide a fixture or anything else, besides labor. These guys are a scam. I could go on all day about how I was overcharged for their carelessness. They charged $7000+ to "clean" electronics that could have been replaced for about half the cost, and lost parts to items that were supposed to be saved. If you have to use them, so be it. But do not take their word for anything. Constantly make them give price estimates and do not let them work unsupervised. They trashed a brand new carpet. Sent a crew to shampoo it. Left the stains they were supposed to get out, and wasted the bathtub in the process! I was able to get their stains out by the way with my personal Bissell cleaner. I will update this review when, and if, the job is ever done, but in order to get ServiceMaster to do anything, I have to call them every single day and hunt down my "project manager" who consistently just tries to get me off the phone by telling me he'll "call me back" or "get me that information first thing in the morning" which never happens. I always have to call him back, not that this accomplishes much of anything. After several days of zero communication from my construction manager, I called the main line and got someone who tried to contact the manager and his supervisor, both went to voicemail and he offered "I can connect you to his supervisor's voicemail." We had water damage in the kitchen in early July. They came promptly to mitigate and did a good job. However, the restoration process was enormously delayed. Even with making allowances for Covid related issues, they told us 5 weeks to start. Then they delayed over and over and got the project done in mid October. Their project manager was incompetent and never communicated in a timely manner. He kept making mistakes, overlooked several aspects of the project and had to be prodded over and over. We complained to the supervisor and got some sympathetic and understanding verbiage but no real redress for the crappy customer service and project management. read more

We chose this agency at the suggestion of our Insurance agent for restoration of water damage to our kitchen from a leaking dishwasher. their Project Manager Mike McCormick came out quickly. He looked at the damage photographs and the Kitchen and stated they (Service Master) will restore the kitchen to pre-damage status, including if needed, ripping our cupboards and replacing floor damage and any needed cabinets. The Kitchen floor was ripped out and the under flooring was dried well. Then we were informed...." we only dry the floor and wood" , YOU have to find the contractors and finish the restoration. Indicated damage to a den when it was a dining room and measurements to the damage area is off so we are having trouble with our insurance claim. These Guys are Crooks!!! During a windstorm, I had a medium sized, no more than three inch diameter branch plunge through my garage roof like a dagger. It only penetrated about 6 inches into my roof. I went up on my roof to see it and called my insurance agent, who told me to immediately call Servicemaster or I would be liable for any further damage. So I called them. They came out, removed the branch and covered the small, not more than 3 inch hole in my roof with a blue tarp. That's it. There is no way it could have even taken an hour. My neighbor came over and fixed my roof for $120. I later received a bill from Servicemaster of Seattle for $794.88. Because I did not meet my $1000 deductible, I am expected to pay this outrageous and inflated amount. They are threatening to put a lien on my house and charge me $400 to do it. I will be contacting the Insurance Commissioner first thing in the morning. read more

I hired ServiceMaster to clean my house and possessions after a furnace puffback. They estimated $13k and around three weeks for the possessions. The final estimate came out to almost $20k, with a good number of items being totaled. It took several months and I had to ask them to re-clean most of the items twice. Some things were literally untouched by the cleaners, just packed up. Many items were left with a terrible chemical odor and I had to get rid of them. I was charged extremely high fees for storage of the items, and everything was packed with obscene amounts of packing paper. The property cleaning was even worse. Every surface in the house had to be painted over. There was a room with natural wood walls, and the soot was never cleaned out from the crevices despite two attempts. The representative dealing with me(Larry M) was hostile and aggressive, and refused to re-clean anything but a small number of surfaces, claiming that all other concerns I had were invalid and not related to the puffback. In total, ServiceMaster walked away with $30k and did not do a satisfactory job. I tried to complain but they have connections with insurance companies and it was of no use. In fact, the project manager assigned to me used to work at an insurance company before joining ServiceMaster. It was a nightmare of an experience I would not wish upon anyone. This company is bordering on insurance scam and profits from people going through extreme hardship. read more

I was referred to Servicemaster to clean my belongings of a mildew smell after a bad roof leak and mold situation. Firstly, I was promised my belongings would be packed out the day before demolition of my apartment. They were not packed out until the day after demo had started, exposing my belongings to mold and other hazards. They also left many items in my apartment for a week after the 'pack out' with no explanation. Secondly I was told the cleaning would take 2-3 weeks and now it has been 4 weeks and I still have no update or communication about the status of my belongings. I had a couple items 'rush cleaned' and they were returned with a terrible chemical smell that does not come out after being laundered. Finally, I asked them to not use any chemicals to clean my climbing ropes, and they fully disregarded this ask, making my ropes unsafe to use and I will have to throw them away. My project manager does not answer my phone calls. My experience with Servicemaster has been uncommunicative, untimely, and entirely unprofessional. Do not give them your money. read more

This has got to be the biggest joke of a restoration company I have ever seen. We were referred to Service Master from my insurance agency to address a roof leak causing interior water damage inside the home. The walk through for the quote took well over an hour which still blows my mind as a contractor myself. The irritation just starts there. After weeks of no contact or update I called my insurance. Over a month after the walk through my insurance had still not received any quotes from the "Project Manager" provided by Service Master. After repeated phone calls to follow up finally an interior quote was sent to our insurance company but still no quote to fix the actual problem of the roof leak. Come to find out the roofing company Service Master contracted to look at the roof has had the quote ready for over two weeks. Yet they cannot provide to anyone but Service Master. Long story short it's been over two months and we still have a tarp on our roof with nothing fixed. I've had great service from Servicemaster for two different leaks in 2019. There have been a total of THREE leaks total in my first floor condo since 2/28/19, and the first leak was managed by insurance for people on the third floor - that company will never come back here. I was well served by Rep Suzanne Porter, and by technicians Patrick and Trevor, who brought in the big fans and equipment to dry out ceilings and one wall. All of these employees were very friendly, well informed, and meticulous about getting a job done the most efficiently as possible, while also respecting a certain cleanliness level in my condo. I could also reach out to the company whenever necessary and would connect with an employee who was very customer service oriented, time after time. Poor all around service. Laundry room flooded and I contacted insurance to start the process of fixing the damage. Servicemaster was contacted by my agent to come out and assess the damage. The project manager came out the next night and walked me through the process explaining everything that they were to do prior to having a claims adjuster come out. Bobby the project manager took notes, pictures etc. and said he would be in contact with me to get a clean up crew out to our place. I was contacted later that night where I along with 1 other person he spoke with specifically said tom him; please have the crew come by anytime AFTER 1PM because nobody would be available to let them into the house in the morning (mind you this is a weekday so of course we have work and other obligations), he said no problem he would take note of that request and make sure nobody would come earlier than 1. As I left my home before 9 I drove past a Servicemaster van and hoped that it wasn't destined for my home. A couple minutes later I received a call and sure enough it was them. I told them I specifically said to not come before 1PM and they said okay we will "try" to come back later that day. The man I spoke with was very short with me and didn't actually confirm that they would be back later or not. I awaited a call from Bobby to accept the fact that he made a mistake about the scheduling but never received one. I called him that afternoon when I was available and expecting a crew to arrive and he apologized and said he made a mistake of not actually writing my request even though in our phone conversation the night before he said he did. I'm annoyed by the fact that I had to call him to call him out on his mistake rather than him telling me sorry I messed up here is my solution. Later that night a crew arrived to tear out the damage and set up the fans for drying. One of the men stated we will be back tomorrow (Saturday) to see if the parts have dried if they have not then we will come back Monday. Saturday comes around and no call or site of ServiceMaster. I don't have the time to wait around for someone to come by so I went about my business and decided to leave a message Sunday. Monday comes around and no reply came about and once again I had to call Bobby. He passed the buck this time saying a women named Victoria would be contacting me shortly about getting a crew out but couldn't give me a real window of time when this was happening (like Comcast). My main point to this rant; note. document, get in writing or confirm on the spot every plan/course of action that Servicemaster says they need to do. Stay on top of every single detail and pester them to deliver because if you're not overly proactive then you're really nothing to them. I'm disappointed with the lack of customer service, open dialogue and lack of responsibility by the project manager and crew I was given. This is my first time dealing with this company so I would hope this is not a trending thing throughout. They need to understand that there business revolves around helping people get back to there normal daily lives after an accident occurs. Part of my home is unusable because they have taken out the walls, and I've had to take out all the pipes and uproot appliances to accommodate them. The appliances cannot be reinstalled until the walls are fixed and It was not my decision to contact them in the first place and if it was I would not have chosen this company. I'm new to this whole process of dealing with insurance on problems like this so at this point I have to accept it and take this as a learning experience. read more

Shame on these people. We had a house fire and lost most everything. First time experiencing a house fire and learning about insurance and how people are there when your down to help. Trust me these people are crooks. We were informed four hours into the process by someone who had similiar experience to not use these people. They will wipe out your insurance and won't have much funds left to replace. Especially if you only have minimal insurence. We stopped them immedietly. They managed just to box my kitchen. They then charged me 1,977.34. for four hours. When I did find a new place to live and got the boxes to start cleaning what was salvageble, to my shock they had put one or two items in box and used so much paper it constituted 42 boxes for just my kitchen. We took 13 industrial sacks full of paper to recycler. So I guess supplies are where they come up with the 2 grand figure for four hours. Again shame on these people. Taking advantage.... I had a water (Boiler went out) loss at my home in Seattle. I called Jason @ Service Master and within an hour or two he was at my home evaluating the damage. Service Master took care of the entire dry out and repairs, all while coordinating with my tenants as this is a rental home. The process was so easy with Service Master, they took a lot of stress off of me living 850 miles away. I've had several clients have water losses since mine in January of 2015 and they provided the same excellent level of service and assistance in getting all ours homes back to pre-loss shape. What started out as a small leak in August,2015. Our insurance company Ameriprise referred us to Blue code, they send Service Master to fix our issue. We were assured that our problems were in their hands and we had nothing to worry about. It was meant to be a one day job that turned into a four day dilemma, they cut a pipe that was not meant to be cut creating a waterfall falling straight through the whole in our kitchen at eight o'clock at night. Making us turn the water off in our house and finding a place to stay for the night. They are to this day sending collection letters telling us to pay the balance apart of our deductible, we have asked them to pay for the night out we spent that one night and for the bills that came with the wrong pipe being cut. If they were true professionals then they should know better to turn the water off before doing any work. We have tried communicating through Email from more than 4 months to reach out to the company to resolve this issue and found no luck to solve this inconvenience. We are not ones to put out reviews but this experience was so bad we believe others should be aware of this. We offer them multiple time to resolve this and compensate us for the damages for the inflated work statement but we have not seen any leader in Service Master of Bellevue want to take responsibilities, but threatening to send this to collection. Service Master, A LICENSE TO STEAL! THEY PACK AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE INTO EACH $35 BOX. THEY SUBMIT THE INVOICE DIRECTLY TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY SO THE HOMEOWNER NEVER SEES HOW SEVERE THE OVERCHARGING REALLY IS. On June 30 2015 my home caught fire causing extensive damage to the upper floor bedrooms and attic. The structure is still in the process of being rebuilt. On July 1 2015 a neighbor and I were sorting through damaged items in my driveway. That is when Larry Matlin of ServiceMaster of Seattle approached me stating an insurance company contacted him about the fire. He stated he was called to begin the process of salvaging contents of my home. I explained to Mr. Matlin that my primary concern was removing my oriental carpets from the structure while they were still able to cleaned. The carpets were not damaged by fire but they were wet and had been exposed to smoke. Mr. Matlin explained to me and my neighbor that ServiceMaster of Seattle had a good deal of experience with this type of carpet. He stated he worked with a specialty carpet company that would restore my carpets to a condition possibly better than before the fire. I asked him to begin the process immediately. Mr. Matlin stated he would have his team at the house within the next day or two and the carpets would be OK until then. A few days passed and no one from ServiceMaster of Seattle had not arrived as stated. I called Mr. Matlin and learned he was taking a continuing education class and would be out of the office the entire week. I explained my situation and my concern about my carpets. Service Master sent another representative, Susanne Porter, to explain the process of packing out salvageable items from the structure. Ms. porter described the actual packing process and urged me and my wife to only pack items which we intended to keep otherwise the ServiceMaster personnel would pack everything. My wife and I restated our concern for the carpets. Ms. Porter reassured us that the carpets would be a priority. The next morning a crew of four or five people arrived in a ServiceMaster of Seattle van and began bringing boxes and supplies into the house. The lead person, Lori, introduced herself and explained that the team would begin placing our possessions in boxes and transport the items to their storage facility. Since we had never been in this type of situation we began asking questions about how much would we be charged for this service. Lori stated "I don't know anything about prices" she was only there to pack up the items. "besides, your insurance company is paying the bill". Lori also stated that we "should not speak with any other team members". If we had any questions we should address them only with her. Right away we observed ServiceMaster personnel packing items which we had instructed Lori not to pack. My wife told a team member not to pack some items and Lori interrupted her stating "the best thing you can do is stay out of our way and let us do our work". Later that day I observed a team member wrapping a broken eight-inch helicopter model which cost less than $10 new in wads and wads of packing material then sealing it in a 16"x12"x12" box. I immediately informed Lori about how ridiculous this was. She responded "they have no idea what is important to you so they pack everything". I asked Lori about getting the carpets out of the house and to the restorer. She stated she did not handle those types of items. I called Larry Matlin by telephone and he said he would have people there the next day. He said the workers would arrive with snow shovels to clear the debris covering the carpets and take them to be cleaned. I thought he was joking but they used shovels to remove the debris from the carpets, I arrived at the house the following afternoon to discover three women wrapping and boxing 30-year-old dishes on my dining room table while standing on my most valuable carpet. During the fire a 4'x4' skylight had shattered right above that carpet and these women were grinding broken glass into the carpet. I told them to get out of my house. By that point the carpets were covered with mold and the wet furniture had leached color into the carpet fibers. I rolled the carpets up and took them to a fine carpet specialty store in Bellevue WA to have them cleaned. It was too late. I had the three carpets evaluated and learned were ruined beyond repair. They were appraised at $45,000 but all three were irreplaceable. I was contacted A day later by the ServiceMaster district manager, Jason Zakk. He requested a meeting to resolve the issues that resulted in me asking them to leave. During the meeting, we agreed that my wife and I would not be charged for the work done so far and a new team would finish the job of packing the remainder of our items.
