After a few bouts of leaking from the exhaust fan, I called Ventflow. Following a quick five-minute phone call and the exchange of a handful of images from my attic and bathroom, we had a plan of attack and an appointment scheduled. The team showed up perfectly on time, removed the offending, soaking-wet fans and ducting, and even checked the roof to clear out insulation that didn't belong there. They were punctual, communicated clearly, cleaned up thoroughly, didn't mind my dog barking at them, and explained everything they were doing. They also gave me some great advice on other DIY things I can do to keep the ducts and house in good shape. The price was exactly what I was quoted (even though one of the installs was a bit more complicated than it should have been), and they spent extra time cleaning up insulation that had fallen out of the attic. I 100% recommend Ventflow and would absolutely use them again if anything came up.

In related news, I later found out that asking adding a surcharge for debit transactions is actually illegal per U.S. Federal law. Good to know. (https://usa.visa.com/dam/VCOM/download/merchants/surcharging-faq-by-merchants.pdf) You might bring this up when they attempt to do charge you for a debit card, which my agent did. They can charge up to 3% for credit cards. Nevertheless, the good folks are the office were very nice about reversing the double-charge. I am waiting to see when it comes through. Pro's - Basic work seemed to be done well and at a price that was competitive with others I contacted at least for the basic service. - Communication was prompt. - After some re-scheduling on their part, the team did the work swiftly and efficiently. - Most of the terms were clear in advance, using Yelp Projects. Con's - This is a fairly shiesty corner of the home maintenance world. Many providers seem to give you a low-ball estimate to get in the door and then upsell significantly. - Envirosmart is not an exception. - The initial quote was $200. This included scoping the ducts and doing the negative pressure clean-out. - Onsite, they then upsold me to $670 for a more thorough brushing of the vents, sanitation, and some other ancillary services. - They were only modestly well-organized. They called the day-of to reschedule because of a conflict with internal training. They also confirmed a different time than I had originally scheduled. It was the difference of a 9 to 11am original window and a 2:30-3pm arrival. - The Yelp Project communication could have been clearer. They did not specify whether they were calling to quote me or coming to do the service! Amid all this and with some clarification and flexibility on our part, we worked it out. I would have appreciated either a discount or additional service for the delay. None was proffered. I did not go ahead with the upsell as I had already gotten quotes for less from other providers with somewhat more transparent pricing. I think the work they did appeared fine. See attached pics. Your guess is as good as mine which are before and which are after! They did not specify when they sent them to me and email took off the timestamp. I'm hoping the cleaner ones. I probably will try another service when I do this again and with a higher rated provider. All in all, though, I had low expectations and those low expectations were met.

Shortly after installation, I expressed concerns that the AC is not cool/cold for my house and my bedroom upstairs reach's 80F+ even with AC on. AAA came back and said nothing was wrong and even said oh maybe your builder should have installed 2 HVAC systems. I actually questioned their experience as the crew came out for an assessment based on my house sq footage and recommended this unit for my house and I was later told by another tech that the is AC unit is a bit small for my house.. unsure whether they were trying to sell some other unpopular units to their clients. Fast fwd, I hired another company for maintenance today and was told and shown that there were rust and water in my unit and the Inducer has a crack due to POOR gas pipe installation by AAA. Also, the tech told me AAA should have put in a bigger AC unit for my house instead of blaming I need another HVAC. Hence, AAA did not have experience staff to do initial assessment to determine AC BTU/Ton size and their installation was POORLY done!

    We were referred to Aircare USA to have our air ducts cleaned. My husband called and asked for a…read morequote. He was sold on an "air scrubber". I asked him what that meant, he said it was like an air purifier. He was told we would be only paying for the air duct clean and the product itself. He was originally quoted $800 for the cleaning and the air scrubber for a $1600 package deal. We have an Aerus Air Scrubber cut in and installed into our HVAC system. As I walked in the door that night from work, I said, "why does it smell like an ozonator in here?" He asked me what that was. I explained that it was something that sucks the oxygen out of room to remove strong orders quickly. Companies that do Bio-hazard clean-up and restoration commonly use these machines. I am very familiar with this smell, as I have been in property management for 15 years. In fact, I own a small one for vacant homes. Ozone machines can make people very ill. My husband immediately notified Jim, the owner, that my son and I were smelling this odor and were getting headaches and our eyes were watering. It's important to note: we experienced NONE of these symptoms before AirCare USA. Jim claimed that they do not use ozone as they tried that once and he knows its bad. He had no idea what we could be smelling. Maybe it was the "sanitizer" they spray in the machine. He asked us to give it a little while longer. A week passed and still the smell was there and we were even more sick. I got on a step stool and unplugged the machine. When we called to ask them to remove it "100% Customer Guarantee" they pushed us out weeks. The day before the appointment I called Jim and asked how we would be reimbursed. He told me it would be up to Alex and he wasn't sure how much but he would cut us a check. Late that evening I received a text telling me we were not receiving anything back. During the appointment, Alex told my husband we would only see a refund had they been able to get their money back from the company. My husband asked why we should be on the hook for $1600 for something that was making us sick, Alex asked why HE should be on the hook for it. They buy these units in bulk and can't return them. He also said there was nothing in the unit and he has no idea what we would smell. As Alex was leaving my husband had to ask for our piece of equipment back that makes us sick, that they were going to take and not refund us any money. We have a patch in our HVAC system, you cannot find this model number of air scrubber on the internet anywhere and we are still out money. This was our experience with AirCare USA.
