In our case, we never contacted them -- Parker & Sons contacted them. Once inside, they used what appeared to be a pin-type moisture meter, which is designed to measure moisture by pressing the metal pins directly into or firmly against a surface like drywall or wood. Instead, this individual waved the device around in the air and slid it across the floor -- a method that produces inaccurate and scientifically invalid readings. This behavior was misleading and unprofessional and deceptive. There were no visible company uniforms, no name tags, no proper business cards, and no verifiable credentials shown. They were unable to provide a working business phone line with voicemail or office contact. This is a red flag under the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act (A.R.S. § 44-1522) which prohibits misleading business practices, especially those that can financially harm consumers. We later confirmed: The phone number they called from had no professional voicemail The main business number listed online also has no voicemail set-up No one presented professional ID upon entering our home Under Arizona Revised Statutes § 13-1502, entering someone's home without proper identification under false pretenses can be construed as criminal trespass or fraudulent access -- especially if done for profit or manipulation. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: You have the right to refuse entry to any business that does not show valid ID.You have the right to refuse entry to any business or individual who does not present valid photo identification, proof of employment, or contractor licensing. Simply viewing their ID is not enough -- most people cannot memorize names, badge numbers, or license info in a few seconds. You have the right to document this information, including taking a photo of their ID or business card, for your own safety and records -- especially when someone is entering your private home, photographing rooms, or assessing potential insurance work. You have the right to request all licensing and bonding information in writing. You have the right to verify phone numbers, company registration with the Arizona Corporation Commission, and to record interactions in your own home if you feel unsafe. Please do not blindly trust anyone who enters your home. Ask questions. Demand credentials. If they pressure or manipulate you, call the authorities because once you let them in authorities won't help the victims. Our claim began on Monday, Feb 6th 2023. We had a leak coming in from our laundry room and it took…read moreus about a week to see if this was an insurance or home warranty issue, but when we found out this would be an insurance claim we contacted my ex husband who referred Alex with Slate. We called him on March 15th, he came out on the 17th and let us know the steps and process of what to do. He said to call our insurance (State Farm), assured us that they do a lot of work together and to make a claim. He said to tell State Farm we are working with a restoration company (Slate) and to start the claim. Alex did not give us a quote at this time but wanted us to process the claim in which we did. When that was done he started planning on his equipment arriving and getting the job started. Since she had told us that State Farm is a tricker insurance where he has seen claims like this get approved but also has seen claims like this get denied, we were VERY hesitant to start work and voiced our concern. We also told him we do not feel comfortable starting this process without the approval many times but he assured us by saying "Don't worry, I wouldn't accept this job if I thought it'd be denied" "It's okay, that we don't have the approval because if we don't, it's my job to get the approval because that is how we get paid." Our trust in him got our better judgment and we signed the papers to start work without getting a number estimate but again we have voiced that we want to stop at the threshold of our insurance deductible at $2500 because without approval we did not want to come out of pocket that much. We made it very clear financially we will not be able to go above that as well as move forward without being approved by insurance. Again, he was reassuring us that there is no way that this could be denied. (Texts messages attached of us asking for estimates and saying we need to stay with our deductible threshold) When the crew came on the 20th and started to pack up we had a conversation with the team because they were telling us how they would have to put plastic tarps up, cut out the cabinets (in the areas where the leak was not at.) I could only say "okay" cause I do not know what is right and wrong, what is wet and needs to be dried, I can only trust the company we hired. But when Thomas heard all of this, once again he questioned "why do you need to pull out all these cabinets? The leak is now there? What do you need to cut out the drywall that far? Why do you need to hang up tarps? That will be an additional cost." Which again, at this time Alex and his crew mentioned that they needed to test for asbestos, that they testing would be to our cost. I said, "okay but if it is hot for asbestos, would that make this claim more expensive? Because again, we have not gotten approval and if what is done so far is MORE than $2500 if it is hot for asbestos how much would that add on?" Alex said, "If it's hot for asbestos that will probably be an addition $1500" I then reminded and asked him again, "Okay Alex, remember we do not want to go over our $2500 if we are not approved yet. What are we at right now, cause if we are hot for asbestos and that adds $1500 we are already really close to our deductible. Shouldn't we stop until we get approved so Thomas will not be upset with the total?" Once again, "no, no Michele I am confident we can get this covered" Well, they ended up gutting our kitchen, ripping out the cabinets and ruining them that we can not put them back together, they told us no matter what they would do everything in the least invasive way possible because they needed to take pictures for the insurance company but again with the confidence that they would get this covered explained to us,"it's okay if they are damaged because if the insurance can not find a comparable match to what you have they will need to replace not only the cabinets pulled out but replace the entire kitchen." This is a long overdue review for ATH! They handled two major home projects for us in 2025 in a…read moremidcentury modern condo. This review is for the first one, a bedroom ceiling/roof leak that needed mold mitigation, asbestos testing and renovation. March 2025: Leak originally started as a moisture spot on the ceiling in October 2024 but my HOA ignored it. By March 2025, the ceiling had become so compromised that water streamed in like a waterfall during a massive storm. My original contact was Noah - he gave me an estimate (along with two other companies). I really appreciated how Noah was communicative, informative and thorough. And! he didn't badger me w/ phone calls & emails, like the other two companies did. He understood that I said I would take care of the situation when I could b/c I was in the middle of Massage Therapy school. I understood the "risks" of having mold & just shut the bedroom off. Fast forward to August 2025 & now we're ready to take care of the situation. Noah followed protocol of getting an asbestos test first. Luckily, it was negative. Then Spencer, their Mitigation Specialist? built a special containment room, inside the guest bedroom that sealed off the contaminated area. Heavy duty fans stayed on for about 72 hours? so the area could be thoroughly dried after being treated w/ some kind of mold treatment. Noah was available via text when I had questions - that was surprising & super helpful! Once Mitigation was completed, Noah connected me w/ Jacob at their Restoration Department. He sent over a stellar crew led by David & they proceeded to rebuild about a quarter of the bedroom - meant to mention that they had to rip out dry wall, scaffolding, etc. This crew rebuilt and then refinished the area, including re-installing wainscotting and painting the ceiling + walls. The results? This bedroom looks gorgeous! We were thrilled with how thorough/smooth ATH was w/ this process & how the renovation turned out. In February, 2026 when I arrived there I found it was flooded and caused major damages. I called Travelers who is my home insurance carrier to report what happened and was told they hired Servpro which is a Fire and Damage company in Buckeye to asses the damages and do the demolition. I got the report of the plan from Servpro of what they intended to do and was irritated when they demolished more than they needed because I could see that there were some areas which they could have left as is. I believe it is because by doing that, they had more work to do and therefore more income for the company. I used to own a construction business in WA and I also am certified carpenter so I know a lot about home renovations. Since Servpro did the demolition so I opted to let them do the renovation, which on a hindsight I should not have. Their Construction Manager named Kelcy at first did not give me the details or itemize the work on how much the charge was of each phase of the job but instead she just sent me an email of the total charge of renovation until I asked her and went to her office personally to get the copy so I could see the details of what she charged my insurance. I was surprised to see how they jacked up the prices for the materials. It's absurd! I went to Lowes and see those materials they charged my insurance and how much they actually cost at Lowes. I also found out later on that they took some of the unused materials with them back instead of leaving them at my house since my insurance already paid for them; presumably to use for other house renovations. Looking at the carpentry work on the itemized list she finally provided, I told her I would do some of the work myself and so they could pay the portion of the job I did with the insurance money that they already received; but there was a particular job that I did which she refused to acknowledge and stated that her workers did that. She was adamant about that even though I provided the proof on the email to her that I myself was the one who performed that particular job, not her workers. After going back and forth, she finally acknowledged that I was right. That's the reason why I did not send the remaining balance right away when they asked. Servpro took their sweet time to finish the work at my house. They were not there everyday but demanded to get the remaining balance from my insurance ASAP and even threatened to impose late payment fee if I did not comply. One other thing, she charged my insurance company the cost of the price for OBS plywood that I found out was never installed since my floor did not need that plywood. I did give my approval after the job was done just to close the deal even though in my opinion which I also stated to them that they did a subpar job. Looking back, I wish I could hire another company to renovate my house to spare the headaches.

So first group came did a good job removing wet walls, ceiling, cupboards. (removing way more than necessary in our opinion). Some damage done removing this.*note later. Insurance company received the quote and sent back to Mitigation. Agreed to do the work as laid out in the insurance quote. When this was finished we asked when next process would be done, was advised Reconstruction person would be out to quote job and start date. More delays waiting. That completed quote sent to Insurance company, more delays getting approvals.. There was terrible communication for this process and waiting for them to get started. We had a deadline for completion which they confirmed It would be done. Needless to say that didn't happen. Feel free to use them for drying and water mitigation. Krister and his crew were good at that. Krisher shows you the damage, walks you through the house, gives solid suggestions. Took care of us there. (Communication was spotty as to the process of drying the house....but it got done.). But for restoration....while inconvenient, I'd highly suggest someone else. The first consultant Kylie passes our job to Kelsi. (Which turned out to be a lot of the problems, as Kelsi started then left for personal reasons) So at height of project it went back to Kylie. This was the week they promised it would be done, it turned into a nightmare instead. They had people coming and going or sitting waiting to know what they were supposed to be doing. with our time frame and the lack of contractor bookings there was no way this project was going to get done. The consultant was not organized nor aware of project needs. The project didn't get done, but was told "I understand this is not the outcome you would like but unfortunately we are at a standstill and the home is livable". This project was now on hold till we came back in September for the finishing of project. Servpro set up a date to complete project, two workers came to fix, garage light that had been broken, and a pipe moulding to be secured and install two lights. It had been suggested a walk through but that didn't happen as there was damage to the floor pictures were sent, emails back and forth and us proving they did it. Finally they offered money instead of repairing And we agreed to be finally done and no walk through. The whole project was extremely stressful. We gave up.......signed the completion document. It just seemed like a never ending loop. So again, if you're ever in need of water mitigation in the Buckeye area, then yeah I'd recommend Servpro. But from a restoration perspective....I can't recommend them at all. Get an actual General Contractor....don't have this happen to you.

We bought a dishwasher a few months ago & one day found water leaking below. The contractor who put…read morethe dishwasher in came out , removed the dishwasher & found water sitting underneath. It was recommended that we have a remediation contractor come out to see if there was any water damage & mold. After researching companies we decided on ServPro. Jason came out & inspected the island , cut a piece of drywall and confirmed water had seeped into the island. Remediation needed to start right away. After a lot of back & forth with the insurance company we decided to move forward with remediation along with upgrading our kitchen. Jason , Zymer , Ray & team did an AMAZING job! These guys always kept us informed of next steps, carefully took our ideas/thoughts/concerns into consideration & were very professional. We are so happy with the end result & would highly recommend these guys to anyone.
