Myreview is a bit late. I know. I did like the wide open space of the place. being a BBW, i never felt cramped. our group grabbed a 6 seater bar table and shared almost everything. I do wish that they gave you a bit more quacamole for the table. It was barely enough for me. I held back. I enjoyed the queso dip very much. ooh...I did like the quacamole. moving on...... I got a chicken burrito, a brisket taco, and a duck taco. I loved the tacos in the corn tortillas. I really really loved the brisket. The duck was close to it but it is served with goat cheese and I am not a fan of goats, much less cheese made from goats. I don't care what Giada says. the burrito was good. It is served with a healthy douse of guacamole, but really it tasted like I could have got it from Qdoba. overall, I will be back! there are other things to try, although the menu is relatively small. read more

Probably some of the best guacamole I've ever had! I usually judge a Mexican joint on their guac, margaritas, and chimichangas. Since Mission doesn't offer chimi's, the remaining 2 out of 3 get a near perfect rating! Their margaritas are handmade and shaken, not stirred, and quite delicious. The fish tacos are probably my fave as well as the big ol burrito I had. The first time I went here, we were told about a 25 minute wait. An hour later, we still had no table. The only thing that kept us there were the margaritas. Unfortunately, we had a show to catch at the Pageant, so we were unable to even have dinner there. The margaritas are on the expensive side, but eating actual food would have made me feel better about that. The second time we visited, the wait was a little more realistic and as I mentioned above, the food was great. I also like that they were playing indie music in the background while we were there. Two tries, two fails. I'd heard rave reviews for Mission Taco ever since it opened. I went in for my first visit with the bar set high, but MT spectacularly failed. My cocktails were good and the guacamole was stellar -- some of the best I've had in StL. But my tacos (4 different kinds) all had soggy, flavorless meat. The only thing keeping their tacos from being complete failures was the excellent guacamole they mercifully slathered on. Wanting to think my bad experience was an outlier, I gave MT another shot. Same exact experience: awful, soggy tacos with incredible guacamole. After hating the restaurant twice, my ears became more attuned to negative reviews of the restaurant -- people with the same experience as me. Avoid Mission Taco. read more

Wow!!! Really!! Simply the best tacos I've ever eaten!!! Be forewarned Mission Taco is busy! You will likely have a wait! The cool thing is they have a little side restaurant/ their to-go area where you can wait and order chips & salsa or a drink. We had a 45 minute wait, I debated leaving and eating somewhere else. Oh... I'm so glad we stayed!! I highly recommend the Baja fried fish taco and the shrimp taco! Seriously, they were so good that while my son and I were eating them we ordered another Baja taco each!! I also had the Carne Asada taco, it was o-k, my son had the brisket taco and said it was very good, but the Baja was his favorite as well!!! We also had the street corn. It was very good!! It's creamy with a hint of fire roasted goodness!!! Our server was amazing! Very attentive and friendly. The restaurant lends itself to a "grab all your friends and let's have tacos" kind of feel. If you want a wild choice of non-traditional taco and Mexi-inspired flavor, this is your place. The beef brisket taco and roast duck taco are my favorites. They are served in house-made soft corn shells and are overflowing with the very best ingredients. The chips are served with two house-made salsas and I have never had the same two in a row. Stick around for the churros. They may look frightening, but they make up for it when their cinnamony sweet is dipped in the warm chocolate sauce. The mixologists are artisans of their trade. My lady says to mention the cherry lime mojito. It made her happy. This is probably not for the kids, but it's perfect for date night or even lunch with friends. read more

Mission failed. I have been here more than a few times but this will be the last. The food on a good day is just ok. I live 5 min from the Delmar Loop location- I ordered take out over the phone, arrived at the recommended time, waited an additional 20 min, was there just as the food came to the window. Literally got home 5 min later - cold and congealed. It had been in the kitchen or bagged up or something for the entire time I was there before it made it out to me. Seriously consider ordering from the other places close by. You'll get some hot food at the very least. Not one to pour on the hate but this was bad. read more

We went to Mission Tacos about a week ago. I've been neglecting my Yelping! Good food with some great choices to try. We had chips and salsa with a variety of tacos: roasted duck, carne asada, yucatan chicken and my favorite- fish tacos. All were good but none were incredible. I was a bit disappointed with the carne asada and the fish tacos. I have to say I lived go ten years in San Diego so I know a good taco. The fish taco was ok but missing a good sauce. The atmosphere and service were great. I suggest trying it for yourself. I will definitely give it a second shot but only after having a Seoul Taco again. read more

I agree with the overall 4 star rating. Great location on the loop and cool ambience in side. I liked the bar and table arrangements, particularly in the front of the restaurant. There were also some well placed tables to stand while waiting for folks. We ordered the Carne Asada fries which we're amazing: guac, flank steak, cheese and fries. The tacos were good and had unique combination of flavors, but I've had better. The duck taco was just a bit too spicy for me to enjoy fully, even though I have a decent tolerance for spice. It's hard to find good Mexican grub in the STL. Came here for a date night on a random Tuesday night and the place was packed! If you've got the NoWait app, this would be the time to use it. It's filled with college students and gets pretty loud, but we didn't seem to mind. Communal seating may be encouraged... The drinks were okay. Bartenders like to make a big show of their mixing, but my cocktail was a bit heavy on the bitters. The food was also delicious. Definitely going back! read more

Being from the southwest, I get a tad sceptical on reviews of great Mexican food in other parts of the country. However our visit was so great- we ended up going back again a second time in our business trip (aided by the fact the kitchen stayed Open late). It was packed, and there was a wait- so we sidled up to the bar for a cocktail. Hi lights: sweet corn (shucked) and corn fritters (like hush puppies) Guacamole was tasty and empanadas were also delicious (I don't want to see the calorie count on these). Tacos were the star: - chorizo- made in house- holy smokes it was spicy! Five stars. - duck tacos- delicious - brisket tacos- flavourful Atmosphere: we were so thankful that the kitchen was open late- after landing from the airport late. Although my husband and I are regulars at the Delmar location, we have also been to the Soulard restaurant as well. Food is consistently tasty and I particularly enjoy the South Beach burrito and their flautas. My hubby really likes their tacos (especially the chorizo). The guacamole is very good as is the street corn and refried black beans. My daughter had a disappointing chicken quesadilla once - it lacked flavor and was very dry but, as it is an anomaly, we wouldn't let that keep us from returning. Service has always been friendly and reliable, however, we were dismayed tonight when some of our family members coincidentally and unexpectedly walked in after we were seated and had already ordered; we invited them to join our table and a short time later, as we requested our bill, we were informed that they won't split checks. We were originally three people at a six top who had two additional people sit with us last minute with separate orders staggered from ours. The fact that Mission Taco can't accommodate a split check because "every table is one" was off putting. That aside, if you haven't been, I highly recommend it - - just be prepared for a combined check among a group. read more

I would consider myself a regular at Mission, I take all of my out of town friends here, and thoroughly enjoy their food and drinks. However, that does not mean it deserves 5 stars. In the many times I have visited Mission, I have noticed a distinct difference between table service and bar service. Joel and his staff at the bar are hospitable, knowledgeable and quick (though Joel is a Cubs fan and Jorge is kind of a douche). The three or so times I sat at a table, the servers seemed like they worked for a totally different restaurant. Scatter brained, overly-friendly, inexperienced, etc. My lesson is no matter how busy, muscle your way to the bar and skip on the table service until they get their service staff in order. read more

My husband and I came here about 5 years ago and had a few tortas, drinks and the queso con chorizo... I raved about the queso for years! This year, we were shopping in the area and I thought, 'i need that queso!'. We stopped in right before the dinner rush. We got a seat right away and the staff was super friendly! The drinks were great! We ordered the queso and chips. It arrived pretty fast and the chips seemed a litte.... old... the chorizo in the dip tasted amazing but the consistency of the cheese was like if you melted a cheese single in the microwave and let it sit a little.... not great. The duck tacos will knock you out and it also seems to be one of the rare places to eat in the middle of the night in St. Louis. They could use a better selection of wines, but they have a very good selection of beer. The tacos are delicious and my friend got Three Little Pigs burrito and it was bigger than her head. It is very close to our hotel where we will be spending another night. We are hoping our, I don't know what # of changes we are on, flights back to CA and CO tomorrow will get us back home. So in the meantime we will enjoy our fabulous hotel room and be grateful that tacos are only a block away. read more

Finally went back for a 2nd visit and glad that I did. This time around the overall experience was much more enjoyable. The staff was friendly, was greeted right away and our waitress was very personable. Went for a quick nosh, prior to catching a movie and the Chase. I highly recommend the fish taco (fried). I was sad to see one of my favorite divey alternative bars in St. Louis go away (RIP, Delmar Lounge!), but I was happy to see something unique and tasty take its place. Service was fast, and the food comes out very quickly. the tacos are only barely overpriced (by maybe $1), but are all quite tasty. I had the duck, brisket, pork, and cactus tacos - all were better than average, but I especially liked the pork and cactus. the tacos are messy but well-constructed. If you like a new spin on the classic real Mexican taco, you'll like this. Personally, the tacos left me wanting just a little less stuff in them and stronger flavors. Also, I think their guacamole is way overpriced. The bar area itself is a bit upscale for the location, but the bartenders are pros and know what they are doing. I wouldn't order a specialty cocktail there, but I would order a normal drink. It can be a bit packed, but people tend to move in and out quickly, and you won't be waiting for long. all in all, I enjoyed my experience here and would for sure go again. read more

I normally love this place but I am currently receiving the worst service ever here. Everyone has been rude to me and my friend to the point where we don't even want the food. I've been here a few times and had nothing but good experiences. Maybe it's the late night crew, but they are treating this like I'm an asshole for wanting to come here. I'm waiting on tacos because we heard sour the late night taco specials. Honestly I don't even like the tacos here but for $2 we said why not. At this point I wish we would have went to Jimmy Johns. I love this place. I was skeptical the first visit though, because it was pretty much packed shoulder to shoulder with people waiting for a table. I had a drink in my hand within 2 minutes of entering the place, despite the crowd - the bar service is amazing. 1st visit since opening week, and their debacle of a bar (drink/margarita recipes and prep poorly researched/executed). New hires and changed recipes/prep showed great improvement. This time the margarita (they only offer one) was better: not bland/flavorless, but good sweet/acid balance, fresh hand crafted flavor. (Hopefully, the variety of Mission's margarita/tequila selections increases in the future.) Careful sitting at the bar nearest the kitchen door. This is drink/marg prep area, and they have a annoying habit of banging the bartop with EACH shaker. Fish tacos were tasty... Good print through of the genuine smoke flavor..make sure to get 'em grilled, not fried. Brisket taco was veery tender, but the meat itself lacked any real seasoning, relying instead on an overly spicy "arbol" (translate "tree") sauce, that is sizeably over any reasonable scoville reading. Recommend getting it on the side, and adding salt, at the very least. Street corn lived up to some of the pomp heard here, but relies heavily on mayonnaise for its flavor, with little acid balance, and a scant portion of bland cheese. Again, recommend lime, and ask for (extra) chihuahua queso on the side. Finally, here's another testament to the importance of ambience attracting all the gathering. The Tilford's have this part solidly down, as this little niche taco oasis evolves. Just notice the virtually empty, Chipotle Grill, QDoba and El Maguey that you pass on your way to scrounge a parking spot. read more

While I am still on the hunt for authentic Mexican food in St. Louis, this one has come closest to the mark. The flavors are there with corn tortillas and fresh ingredients. However, if you are trying to make a meal you have to piece the items together. The cost for just one item is enough for a single meal! So, it leaves either my wallet or my stomach feeling a little empty depending on which way I go. I first went there for lunch during the work week. It was crowded! However, service was very prompt and attentive. Our group was able to find a highboy table as we walked in, and the others were leaving. Talk about good timing! I guess it's pretty good for the STL taco scene, and if you have never had other GOOD tacos before to compare it to. For me, I've had much better in LA and in New Orleans (shout out to the Rum House!). Overall, the tacos were dry and lacked juiciness. I've tried the pork shoulder, duck and pork belly tacos and they all tasted similar- just OK. The rice and the street corn were actually the best dishes in my meal. The torta was actually pretty decent, but my fries were stale and hard (like it was sitting around for awhile). If I am in the neighborhood I'd come eat again, but nothing to drool over. read more

Mission Taco + Happy Hour + $2 Tacos = a damn delicious night. Some tacos definitely have nights when they shine. When the portobello mushroom taco is perfectly balanced or the duck taco achieves spice nirvana, they're my favorite. And the fried fish is always as good as the others say it is. Even when I finally decided to try the tofu taco, it was good. The chorizo taco is a little spicy for me. The taco of the month is always interesting, but my favorite was definitely their Pho-inspired taco from a couple months ago. Bring it back!! I recommend eating close to the table with a fresh napkin nearby because these things are juicy! The chips and salsa are great, but I personally love saving some room for an extra taco or two! read more

The food here is amazing. Fries for an app are a must. You probably can't go wrong with most of the menu but be sure to try the street corn; I've never had anything like it (even in the years I lived in Mexico). It was delicious. The ambiance is okay...a little loud and crowded for my taste. Parking is a headache. The drinks are strong (crazy strong) but the prices are very reasonable. A small complaint that they brought out our tacos on one big platter so we didn't know who had what and that was just lame. Mission Taco is a super hot taco joint on the loop that perfectly satisfies cravings every time. Although you may need to wait for a seat during peak dinner-time hours, Mission has a great bar stocked with Tequila galore to tide you over, as well as a convenient take-out window next to the restaurant. I've had far too many late-nights chowing down on their perfectly salted house corn tortilla chips and daily salsas, but never too many to keep me from going back to Mission Taco for more. My Hotlist: - Carne asada fries: You're doing it wrong if you don't get this. Perfectly crisp, zesty house-made French fries smothered with bubbling melted cheese, salsa, guacamole, and tender slices of carne asada. My only problem is that they disappear too quickly. You can't go wrong with these fries! - Street corn: Shucked sweet corn off the cob melds with zesty cheese harmoniously. You gotta get this side. - Fried fish taco: Out of all the tacos that I have tried here (and I've tried most), this is by far my favorite. A satisfying classic. - Chicken flautas: Great to share or scarf down by yourself. Can't go wrong with these crispy bites. I ordered: 1) Baja Fish Taco- tasty, but only because of the sauce! 2) Nopales- meh, not my favorite. 3) Carne Asada- YUM! this was probably my favorite! Everything tasted pretty fresh and the service was wonderful. We sat right by the window and this man outside came up to the window and just stared at us.. it was kind of uncomfortable but we laughed about it later. A great taco joint and great margaritas! We dined here on a beautiful 75 degree day, and while we couldn't get a outdoor seat, we were seated fairly quickly. Thankfully they have a seating app/text so you can stand outside. My husband had a burrito and I had the grilled fish taco (I believe mahi mahi), grilled chicken taco, and the roasted duck. They were all flavorful and delicious. Only downfalls were no toilet paper in the stalls and the outdoor seating. read more

I encountered a conundrum when approaching this review, should I rate Mission based on taste alone or rather on the way they make their tacos? Normally the two go hand in hand but here I had to separate them. First let me applaud that they make their tortillas fresh in house this alone adds a lot of flavor to an otherwise bland container. Queso fresco is used instead of the usual adornment of American cheese, slowly I feel my inner Mexican glow. They include items that veer into the traditional such as cochinita pibil and nopales, lastly I give them major props for including tofu and duck (love duck!) options. But while all the tacos we had were decently good, they were clearly toned down in flavor for the American palette, in addition it became hard to distinguish taco from taco as they somewhat tasted the same, each lacking enough individuality to make them memorable. The salsa was a bit pedestrian too, a major disappointment and when I asked the server if he had anything more robust than the standard option he informed me of bottled hot sauce, every Mexican place should have a spicier salsa. I appreciate the attempt to return to a certain authenticity but though this translated into cooking methods and ingredients, it did not translate into amazing flavor. Skip your usual taco haunts and come here, but if you truly want a flavorful experience try something on Cherokee street. read more

I don't see the hype around this place. It's hip, I guess. There are not appropriate options for everyone--every item on the menu has tortillas, rice and beans, aka carbs. I asked if I could get a salad--I couldn't (apparently they don't have any lettuce. The waitress said I could order something naked, which is without a tortilla/shell. So I got the Three Little Pigs burrito. I'm not a huge fan of rice and beans anyway...it was rice and beans and supposed to be three kinds of pork, and who knows what else, I couldn't really taste what was going on. It was huge, and gave me two meals out of it, so then it's a good calorie-per-buck deal. Not super good, and not accommodating to dietary restrictions. Overhyped. read more
