Great spot for groups! Not expensive or fancy, but very efficient. Servers are always so patient and do a great job. The food is good for the price. Love the margarita pitchers! It's located next to a laundromat. Attracts both families and college kids.

Who forgets to bring lunch on a HOT day?! My friend had a planned outing at Mi Ranchito, and I asked her to bring me something back. I perused the menu online and ordered the Pollo Yucatan minus zucchini, with flour tortillas. The food arrived still hot from her 20-minute drive. When I say flavorful, the way Mexican food should taste. The chicken and the rice both DELISH! It hit the spot and was the perfect amount of food.

STOP SEARCHING FOR A GOOD MEXICAN PLACE--THIS IS THE ONE. Where do I start. I mean this burrito is a FATTY. Walked in and had a bowl of salsa and WARM chips within 1 minute. Got our main entree in about 5. SUPER fast. Our waitress was very friendly and quick to refill chips and water often. And you're going to want refills on the chips--THE SALSA IS AMAZING. it's the perfect texture: pretty smooth with just a bit of chunk. Amazing flavor with hint of lime and a nice zip. The burrito grande. My goodness. I've had a lot of burritos but THIS IS THE BIGGEST BURRITO I HAVE EVER SEEN. Probably could have fed 3 people honestly. We could barely get through it with 2 of us. And I came hungry. If you want a high calorie/dollar, this is the spot. And did I mention unlimited chips and salsa refill??? I loved that the salsa came in little pitchers for you to pour into bowls--a nice touch. And of course the feel of the place was very fun. Nice booth seating everywhere, lots of servers around to check in with you. Wow. Will definitely be returning.

Oh I love Mi Ranchito. I used to go here a lot with my college friends because of their generous portions, good price and fun vibes. I haven't been back here for quite sometimes, but the food and the service at my recent visit were just as good as I remembered. We came in late on Friday night. They were packed, but we got seated right away. Food came out super fast. My waitress constantly checked in with us and brought out extra chips/salsa. Amazing service! I felt like I already got full after eating too much chips. My go to order here is the mixto fajita, guacamole and the tamarind water. Check it out if you haven't.

Just like old times! Met up with some former colleagues turned friends for a get together at our old stomping grounds of Mi Ranchito. My friend and I were the first to arrive. We were greeted promptly and given waters, chips, and salsa with individual containers. The salsa was just like I remember- a delicate balance of mild with the smallest hint of a kick, but not overpowering. The chips were hot and fresh, which always makes for a good combo. The server came back a couple times to see if we were ready but we insisted we'd wait until the rest of our party arrived. We decided to get a pitcher of regular margaritas, which really hit the spot. This ended up being the most budget friendly for everyone and even after splitting it four ways, we had plenty left over. I decided to get the fajita texicana, which is a mixture of shrimp, chicken, and beef. Imo, it's the best way to go, especially if you're anything like me and can't decide between the other combos. The food came out even better than expected. The meat was super tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The first bite instantly reminded of the first time I came here and kept coming back. The service was spot on, the food was great, and the ambiance couldn't have been better. While this was my first time back in three years since I no longer work in the area, rest assured I'll be back soon!

We were seated very quickly, and the workers were super sweet and always checking on us throughout our time here. The food came out super fresh and I never once noticed my water getting low because they were so quick to cater to my needs!

The 5 stars is for food only.. the service is rushed and at times non existent with language barrier but the food just makes up for it. The parking lot was so busy ; just shows how popular this place is. The prices are reasonable and drink specials are plenty hence the popularity. Ambiance is really nice with lots of wall art - it's spacious and quite loud. I had the spinach burrito which was stuffed with sautéed spinach, onions and tomatoes topped with cheese sauce- finished every bit of it. DH had a shrimp in hot sauce ( forget the name!)- it came with rice and beans- yum. Everyone got their own salsa bowl so you could mix in as much hot sauce in it ( provided at the table) Jalapeño margarita was decent. Will be back to try other items on the extensive menu.

    Enchiladas Verdes

My girlfriend and I both ordered and enjoyed the enchiladas verdes. The avocado and iceberg lettuce were fresh, and the sauce was delicious. We went at around 6 PM on a Saturday, and it was loud, but there wasn't a wait.

Ambience: the majority of the eating area is outdoors in a heated tent. It's a nice vibe and lets you feel like you're sitting outside without actually having to be outside. Parking isn't too bad here, there's a small parking lot right behind the restaurant and then there is typically ample street parking. It can get quite busy at peak times, but they have a great pick up option as well.

The music in the background and terracotta designs highlighted the threads of Mexican culture but made the Homer statue appear to be a little out of place! Definitely a fun dining experience. The outdoor seating felt super spacious. It was a beautiful day and temperate weather to be able eat outside. It did have numerous umbrellas and a covered portion which kept most of the seating shaded. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good. I was a little disappointed with the bread used for the Torta. I was expecting a bolillo type bread where it the outside is a crisp crust but the inside is airy, chewy and sweet. Instead it was a Telera Bread that was like a very crumbly messy french roll. The pieces of chicken were very thin and cut into strips instead of one patty. It was very dry and not much flavor. The fries were potato-y but not seasoned or salty. Very bland. The aroma of all the food was phenomenal. You know how they say one of the best things about Mexico is the food? I have to admit, I would honestly wouldn't know and just have to trust the stories I've heard, as I've never been lucky enough to go to Mexico.... But all my life I've heard stories about people who go and basically remind you.. NEVER hit a restaurant for _authentic_ Mexican food. You want to hit the street vendors. Well, St. Louis has a fantastic surprise.. Now you can do that right here in the city! Part of a three-restaurant set up, Amigo Sole is the "street vendor" restaurant that's not on the street. (And having met the owner of the full set-up, I'm REALLY hoping i get invited to the grand opening of Jekyll & Hyde) As it was middle of the day Saturday, I didn't ask for anything alcoholic (so i don't know if the reviewer that asked for alcoholic beverages and was told they didn't have any was just unlucky or if it was true.) But I'll take a Mexican Coke over American Coke any day of the week (NO, get your minds out of the gutter.. not that powdered one!). Anyway, I went simple for a quick stop, and went with the Chicken Bomb. at the recommendation of the cashier and he was quick to name this one off.. (and always remember cashiers, have a favorite READY, so thumbs up to the cashier on this one!) . And then to my amazement.. no more than 5 minutes later, HOT, tasty, cheesy, chicken quesadilla style BOMB-diggity! (Ironically this one is not listed on the website menu, only the instore menu? Come on Sole, online is everything today :) ) Absolutely delicious food.. and absolutely messy too, as it literally would fall apart in my hands.. (HEY, that's a good thing!) As for the decor.. 100% true, as Amigo Sole definitely has SOUL! (and lots of soles!). Again Amigo Sole isn't designed to be a 'great sit down' restaurant, it's designed to be street-vendor FUN!!!! and with what decoration they have, it pulls it off fantastically in my opinion. So just based on my meal, what the owner told me about the Amigo Sole, you're getting EXACTLY what you're promised a Mexican street vendor serving fantastic Mexican street vendor food, only with a roof over your head the entire time. During the meal, met again (Who i believe to be) the owner of the store and talked with him about Amigo Sole and how amazing it was to me... and he told me about the three-restaurant combination. (And I apologize sir, but I completely forgot your name when we talked!). even mentioning they share three kitchens when it gets busy (so I was kinda lucky as i think the rain scared everyone out for the day), but I'm still hoping for the Jeckyll & Hyde invitation! (I'll even pretend to find a date if I have to for the upscale part!)

While the location is convenient and the space itself is usually active and social, the quality of the food and service can vary significantly depending on the time of day and how crowded it is. One of the strongest aspects of the Bear's Den is the variety. Students have access to multiple stations and cuisines, which helps prevent dining fatigue during long semesters. The late-night accessibility is also valuable, especially for students balancing demanding coursework, extracurriculars, and campus jobs. The atmosphere can feel energetic and community-oriented, making it a common place for students to meet friends, study casually, or take a break between classes. However, the dining experience frequently struggles with consistency. During peak hours, long wait times and overcrowding can make meals stressful rather than convenient. Food quality can also be uneven; some meals are fresh and well-prepared, while others feel rushed, repetitive, or lacking in flavor. Pricing relative to portion size is another common frustration among students, particularly for those already paying substantial tuition and dining costs. Cleanliness and organization sometimes become concerns during busy periods as well. Tables may remain uncleared for extended periods, and mobile orders can become delayed or confusing when demand is high. Although staff members are often working under significant pressure, the operational flow does not always keep pace with the number of students relying on the facility daily. Overall, the Bear's Den succeeds as an important social and functional hub on campus, but it falls short of being a consistently high-quality dining experience. It reflects both the strengths and limitations of large university dining systems: convenient, accessible, and diverse, yet often overcrowded and inconsistent in execution. With stronger quality control, faster service management, and more attention to food freshness, the Bear's Den could better match the expectations students have for campus dining at WashU.
