Having worked in auto body while in college, I can say with experience that this is a first class shop. Their skill in the craft is outstanding. The price I was quoted was so good, I didn't even seek out additional estimates. they even made rental arrangements for me. When I picked my car up not only was the work impeccable, not possible to tell there was a repair, the car was washed, vacuumed and detailed.....it looked like it just came off the showroom floor! I've used Setauket Auto Body a couple of times in the past for minor repairs, and those experiences were fine. Unfortunately, this most recent visit was a completely different story and ended up costing me a lot of unnecessary time, stress, and money. My Nissan didn't need major repairs, and I was assured the work would take about two weeks. I dropped the car off on February 28th, 2026. By the following week, I started calling because my rental period was ending and I would soon have to pay out of pocket. No one answered the phone for days. When I finally reached someone, I kept being told "next week," then "the following week," with no clear explanation for the delays. What makes this worse is that the shop reported the car as finished to my insurance on March 24th and was paid on the 26th, yet I didn't get my car back until March 30th, 2026. That's more than a full month for a job that was supposed to take two weeks. Because of the delays and lack of communication, I ended up paying about $800 in rental fees out of my own pocket on top of the $2K deductible. This experience was extremely aggravating, disappointing, and financially burdensome especially given my previous positive experiences with them. read more

I've read some of the reviews of this business and was concerned to bring my car there. My boyfriend told me that sometimes companies get a bad rap because of a customer that just can't be pleased. Turns out he was right. Setauket auto not only got me in sooner because my car was unsafe to drive, but I was given updates all the time as to when my car would be ready. I used to be a big fan of Frank Gervasi & Sons @ Setauket Auto body but over the years, these guys became quite pompous and let their success get to them. After being hit 9 times in my 1998 Milano Red Honda Civic EX Coupe (I've never hit anyone but was hit 9 times in that car by others), these guys were given several opportunities to perform some quality work on my car and collect decent amounts of revenue from my respective insurance carriers at the time. Over time, I found them cutting corners on the paint jobs, leaving sloppy messes inside my car, using "used" parts insteads of new ones that were quoted by my Insurance carrier at which point I decided to stop using them based on their shenanigans that were uncovered by me. The weekend started off on the wrong foot...I picked up my mail and was greeted by a camera traffic ticket. Parked my car int the city only to find a silly, indisputable parking ticket within 30 minutes. Left my car overnight near a bar and arrived the next day with a x-rated body parts drawn all over it in the snow (ok that was kinda funny, but still.) I should've known I'd be doomed. Headed back to Long Island, I got rear-ended by another driver who jumped the gun at the light. I got out of the car and cried out, "Seriously?! " This is absolutely the last thing I want to deal with. Luckily, the one saving grace in this entire mess is that I found one awesome mechanic. Enter Setauket AutoBody, my knight in shining armor(-all.) After the other driver gave me the run around, I opted to go directly through her insurance who gave me a similar run-around. Thanks to Joey at Setauket AutoBody, this was not the mess it could've been. First, they low-balled me on the estimate. Joey was not having any of this. He argued for a better estimate and worked directly with the insurance so I didn't have to deal with the long wait times on the phone. He also worked with them to get an extension on my rental since they also underestimated my rental car needs. Besides arguing on behalf of their customers, they provide quality service. My car looked brand new when I picked it up, perhaps even shinier. Throughout my car's spa trip/staycation at Setauket Auto Body, I received updates on my cars' improvement. Joey was always accessible and easy to reach for questions. He was friendly and cordial at all times. I would recommend Setauket Auto Body for your collision needs. And while, the service and quality were outstanding, I do hope not to need their services again anytime soon! I've been meaning to write this review, and I'm finally remembering to. My car was hit in a parking lot while I was at work a few months ago, and being new to Long Island I wasn't sure where to go. Setauket Auto Body was close to where I was living, so I decided to take my car there. Their customer service was EXCELLENT. They were very nice and explained to me what they would do for my car and briefly how the process worked with the insurance company (I've never been through it before). They were very tolerant of my lack of knowledge - I annoyed myself by it - so I really appreciated that. Because I needed a rental car during the repairs, they made sure I was all set up with Enterprise, and during the repairs they kept in contact with me to update me on how things were going with my car. They made clear to me the repairs that were necessary before doing anything, and made the incident much less stressful. I would 100% recommend taking your car here for repairs - you won't be disappointed! read more

Joey was attentive fair and unyielding as he negotiated with the insurance company. This guy really knows his stuff! I'm a Dr in the area. He made certain I had a car and was able to get to my office. Best of all it's a family run business. Joey his brother and his dad are "hands on." Manual drivers beware! Had some work done, within a minute driving out of the lot my clutch was smoking so bad through the air conditioner I couldn't drive with my windows closed. Took it to the mechanic and my clutch was totally shot, the crew couldn't even leave it in the garage it smelled so bad. Mechanic said it was probably nearing the end of its lifetime with as many miles as my car had on it, but that the guys at Setauket Auto Body definitely abused it enough to push it over the edge from zero issues to totally gone. Knowing that, I would never bring a manual car over there again. 2 stars for the decent body work. read more

Had my car repaired after more than 20k in damages, had to bring it back several times after having my vehicle for more than 5 weeks. I even had to. Bring my 2yr old vehicle to the dealership to have repairs done correctly. Their work and their attitude is horrible. And to this day my vehicle rides like crap. I am being generous by giving them a 1 star rating. I strongly recommend not bringing your vehicle for repairs. read more

I brought my car in to get fixed in January. My car was rear-ended and the bumper was damaged. When I went to pick it up after being told it was fixed (and after I had dropped off my rental car from the insurance company), I saw a scratch in the "fixed" bumper. At no time did Setauket Auto body apologize. At not time did they offer to get a rental or at least a ride to my next destination. In fact, they made it sound like I should be grateful they are fixing it - even when it was their fault. Either it was never fixed or they re-scratched the bumper. Setauket Auto Body could not fix it right away or even that day. I had to come back in two more times after that and they finally fixed it. The second time they claimed they couldn't have it done in their original estimated time frame. However, I do need my car. Also, the third time I brought my husband with me. Their attitude was completely different. This episode has caused me a lot of stress and hassle. I am not sure why it's so difficult to fix a bumper CORRECTLY the first time if your are a BODY shop. If something this basic is not correct, makes me wonder the quality of the work on major repairs. Or even just other SIMPLE repairs. I always try to give independent, family-owned companies my business. But this has really soured me. I am going to stick with the auto dealers and dealer-recommended places in the future. It might be more expensive but this is not worth the stress. read more

This is about a year late, but last year I got into a car accident. It was entirely my fault and I didn't even realize I didn't have collision insurance. I used to work across the street so I dropped my car off there and went back to work. Later on that day I was fired. It was 2 of the worst days of my life. I didn't have much money and I was ready to just dump my car. It is a 2012 Nissan Cube with only 50k miles. Even though i didn't have enough money and I was encouraging these guys to just sell it for parts the guy there pushed me to keep my car and worked with my budget. After some back and forth with negotiations he completely worked with me and helped me save my car. I wish I remembered the guys name who helped me but I cannot rave enough about how genuinely honest and wonderful he was. The work they did to my car made it as good as new and they even cleaned the inside! This is such a wonderful shop run by good people. I highly recommend coming here for car repairs. I've been meaning to leave this review for awhile and life just got crazy. I say the negative reviews are bs and from competitors because I don't see how they can be genuine after my amazing experience. I found Setauket Auto Body to be difficult to deal with. Took a new car in with a scratch on the bumper - called the next day to pick up and they told me it wasn't ready cause it's more involved than they thought - it's a scratch. Joe told me how they worked on it - that's a lie cause the car was in the same place when I left work as it was when I dropped it off. That stopped him in his tracks - should just be honest and say can't get to it today bring it in the next day. Joe was rude, nasty and when I told him I needed the car the next day he said "Oh really - maybe". When I did get the car Joe asked for the money - only cash - to which I said I want to see the car first and I think a "Customer Service" class would benefit him. He had some nasty things to say. A dollars worth of change that I purposely left exposed, to see how honest they were, was missing and when I told Joe that he said my guys steal nothing and I don't need your business. I have told everyone I know and work with how rude this man is and he'll never see my business again. I agree with Gaurav P.'s review from what I have now heard from others. Stay away - there's plenty of auto repair shops around. read more
