I have to write this review, even though it happened on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, 2025. With my new 2025 Toyota, I bumped a wall which caused some damage that required attention with an auto body shop. I went to one auto body that gave me a starting estimate of $980 plus more if they found more damage underneath, once they took the fender and bumper off. Next, I went to Scotsman's auto body in Mount Sinai on 25A on the corner of 30 Chestnut St. Scotty came out to look at the damage. He assesed what was wrong and repaired the damage in about 15 minutes. Free, no charge! The shop and premises are clean and immaculate and Scotty was so honest and friendly. I highly recommend Scotsman's auto body in Mount Sinai. If I ever need an auto body shop that is where I'm going! read more

We had front end damage to a vehicle, due to an accident, and Scotsman's was recommended to us by a family member, who admittedly had a positive experience. At first contact they gave the impression that this would be a painless, straightforward process, and that the car would be ready in just under 3 weeks. This date would come and go 4 other times, over the next 3 months...each time WE would have to reach out to THEM, only to hear that something else was now found to be "out of spec" with the car, and it would have to go BACK to the OTHER SHOPS that were apparently working on my car. FYI: apparently they sub out all their mechanical and paint work, because every date that went bust was always "the alignment shop" , "the paint shop", or someone other than them. I wasn't happy that this wasn't explained in the beginning...I'm paying YOU, because I've done my due diligence on YOU, not your subs, who could be shoddy, shady, and unqualified. The receptionist was beyond rude (there may be two, because one is quite helpful and friendly), but the manager (I believe his name was Scott), was quite patient and polite, even as my patience dwindled as the excuses (and months) stacked up. I got the impression that I wasn't the first unhappy customer. My issue with him was in using the excuse "do you want it right, or do you want it back". This may work once in a while, but the truth is in just about any transaction you are looking for the "right" job, at the "right" price. If time wasn't an issue, I could've gone at it myself...we are paying for your skills and experience, to deliver on both of those. Anyway, I was going to chock the entire experience up to a "problem vehicle" that was an honest outlier...until I picked my car up. We eventually got the date (3.5 months later), and went down to finally get the car. I was surprised that not ONE tech, manager, or anyone came out to go over the car with us. The rude receptionist checked us out, and pointed to the direction our car was parked. They didn't even start it, let alone pull it up. As my wife and I pulled out of the spot, I heard the unmistakeable creak of a seizing ball joint, or tie rod end...These guys kept my car for a 1/4 of a year, trial and error fixed their way through what was a VERY locally damaged vehicle (ALL damage was located within the passenger front wheel suspension and, and the steering rack), and sent it out the door with one of THE MOST EASY TO DIAGNOSE PARTS FAILURES. If you want to know just how displeased I was with Scotsman's Auto Body, let me tell you that I didn't even THINK about bringing it back to them to fix the part, in which I would've argued for a "no labor charge". I jacked the car up, diagnosed the problem part in 10 minutes, and fixed it in a Saturday afternoon. Make no mistake though...this was a $400 repair at any local shop, and not a fun, or easy job. I see a lot of good reviews about them, so I'm sure they send out quite a few happy customers, but I don't "do" yelp reviews, and I've never sent back a food order in my life...I wouldn't send Scotsman's auto another car, if they promised to do it for free. Just one persons experience PS: the paint job sucked too, as there are drips you can see on the hood and quarter, from 10' away. Poor quality control is the ultimate take away for me. read more

The office staff at this place is very kind and professional. The gentleman who I talked to about the damages on my car was very nice. The bodywork they did on the car came out well the paintwork however is less than desirable. I have brought the car back twice to have them fix paint drips and a spot where the paint was coming up by the roof rack. After having the car for an additional 2 weeks I got the car back and noticed that while fixing one issue they over-sprayed and created more drips on the hatch. I would bring it back again but honestly don't trust that it will be fixed without causing other issues at this point. I included pictures below. The drip on the door and the ripple on the roof they fixed. In the process though they created a big run on the hatch. 6/13. Was walking from the store to my car today and noticed the bottom panel that was painted was dirty I went to wipe it off and the dirt is painted into the panel when it was repaired. So a bunch of dirt specs are in the paint so it looks dirty constantly. read more

Auto body/Collision repair is so unpredictable. It's not like you use them every week, most of the time you don't even know where one is until you need it. I brought my truck in for a dented front fender thanks to a careless and selfish individual who hit my truck in the parking lot of Uncle Guiseppe's on Christmas eve and simply drove off. (Merry Christmas to me!) My insurance company recommended them, I went there and I must say that I'm glad I did. Jon the owner, his son Zecky and the manager, also John along with John the claim adjuster (lots of Johns) were all very friendly, professional and helpful. The little details: they took my truck to work on it, gave me a ride home (I didn't need a rental, though I could have gotten it right there) and kept me apprise of the status of my repairs. When I had gotten the truck back it was detailed inside and out, the tires armor-all'd and they picked me up. The little things do matter. Now for the work, they took my truck in on a Monday, called me with the estimate and told me it would be ready by COB on Friday. Friday rolls around and at 3pm it was ready. The truck looks as good as new; there is no orange peel, the blending is exact and the fit and finish of the parts was to factory standards I hope that I'll never need a body shop again, but as long as I live on LI that is hoping against hope. But, if I ever do need one, I know that I will be going to Scotsman's Collision as long as I live on the island. read more

My brand new car got sideswiped by a teenager on their cell phone. While that was disheartening, working the scotsman's was very easy. Anytime I called with questions they were very patient and provided any information that we needed. Unfortunately we will be waiting on a part but that is not their fault, my car will be returned to me by Friday. There was a little mishap with overspray on the wheel that they are currently taking care of. Things happen. Repairing a big mess, you'll never see 100% perfect again but this was pretty close. Other shops told me I'll never get full replacement on my door shells because insurance wouldn't cover it and they would use bondo. I believe his name was Ian, agreed there wasn't a chance that bondo would ever touch my vehicle. I was happy to wait a bit longer to get the better repair that we wanted to see on such a new vehicle. They were recommended by my auto insurance after I was rear ended on the GW Bridge ( returning home from Plattsburgh) which required repairs and necessitated a replacement rental car. Everyone was extremely courteous and efficient. With Enterprise's help desk right there I was able to speedily get my rental on site. My car was repaired when Scottsman's said it would be and office staff kept me updated via phone every step of the way. My car was returned to me in perfect shape and it was immaculate inside and out. The mechanic did a wonderful job. Everyone was professional and accommodating. I cannot recommend this business enough, due to some unfortunate circumstances I needed some repairs on my car. This is the second time I have used them and they are a first class operation. From the office staff to the guys responsible for repairing the vehicle, everything is done right. I was happy it was a Allstate registered repair center so there were no hoops to jump through. Another added bonus is having the car rental available for pick up on site. Another win-win.. My wife and I brought car in to have some cosmetic body work quoted. Was quoted at $1900 for all work we wanted done by representative who claimed to be heir and soon to be owner. My wife brought car in and they called to tell her that the rep we talked to mistook the complexity of the work and it would be more money. My wife asked for the car back in the meantime and they said they can't because they have everything apart. It would take longer because of ordering parts. They told my wife for the misquote and hardship of extra time that they would fix hood on them. Three weeks later they renegged on fixing hood on them and added an extra $700 Lo and behold a 4 day -possibly a week job took a month for them to finish. Total cost for job $3700. Originally, when we discussed the body work with the first individual he mentioned that they would fix a ding on passenger side. Went to pick up car today and it wasn't fixed. I asked my wife and she said no that wasn't included, but I remember the conversation. My wife does not want to be confrontational. Don't bring your vehicle there. bait and switch tactics. read more

I recently got rear ended and I went to Scotsman to fix my bumper. They finished my van quickly and did an amazing job, and also washed my car and cleaned the inside. They also have amazing customer service. I picked my van up at 5:30 which is what time they close (but we couldn't get there until then and they said that was fine) and the man I spoke with was so nice and went over all the details of what they did, I figured he would rush through everything since it was closing time but he didn't. I also had trouble getting my car seat out of our rental and he came out and worked on it for 10 minutes and was able to get it out of the rental and back into my car. I was alone with 2 kids so I really appreciated this! I really can't recommend this place more! read more

The only reason this place is getting the much too high mark of 1 star is because Jon is a nice guy. I came here on a recommendation from Geico for a rear quarter panel that was hit. I have since been back over 5 times to fix numerous issues from the bumper fit not correct to peeling paint to paint peeling on areas not involved in the accident from sloppy work with the solvent. I recently got work done at another body shop who confirmed that the workmanship on the rear bumper and quarter panel were sub-par saying that the paint immediately flaked off as soon as a heat gun got near it. This should be a fun summer for my black car... Thankfully I have a lifetime guarantee from Geico on the work so I will probably be back going back in the near future. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

The communications thru call backs, text message was excellent, I was fully informed of what was happening to my car. The problem is the workmanship, the left front quarter panel that was replaced was installed misaligned and worse they damaged my left front headlight. The car failed inspection because of this, the wiring was all messed up, they must have damaged it when removing the panel. John the manager was nice. I took the car back and they replaced the fender with a factory one, it was nicely done and the people there was nice to my wife. Geico people even bought me new light kit, but it was the wrong light kit because it did not have the hi beam, it only had the low beam. read more

It started with someone backing into the side of the my brand new 1 month old car. Their insurance was Geico I meet their rep at Scotsman he said I could take the car to who ever I liked with no one in mind I brought it back to Scotsman. Very nicely surprised everyone was wonderful and nice job done. They even washed and vacuumed my car . Now thats service . I hope to never use them again .But if there is an issue I know where Im going. You girls and guys rock. read more

This company is composed of top of the notch SCUMBAGS. Dropped my car off here about a week and a half ago, received my car back yesterday to find a missing change purse with approx. $25 in it and an iPhone charger (cord and plug) from my CLOSED center console. When confronted with images of before and after the company proceeded to accuse me of setting them up because this never happens at their company. The day I dropped my car off a co worker of mine was fighting with them because they had done the exact same thing to him as they did to me. The company refuses to refund me for the loss money and phone charger. If you're looking for honesty, find a better place this place is not honest and refuses to share any information with you pertaining to your vehicle and who had contact with it. read more

Ops, Scottman was very unreliable. They called me twice "car is ready", got home and noticed panels were missing. Two months later they can get the panels and did very poor to follow up with me. Insurance company is now involved. One start because they did a nice job when the car was dropped off. They need to improve when customers go to pick up and bring the car back to scottsman with problems. read more

My estimated wait time for damages to be fixed was 16 days. They had me come pick up the car after that time. There was still extensive damage to the car that they did not notice or fix and the work that they did do on the car was noticeably poor. Areas that theysaid they painted were scratched up. I pointed out the damage and they said they would have to keep it longer. They kept the car for a total of over 5 weeks. I went to pick it up two days ago. Unfortunately, I wanted to get out of there so bad that I didn't fully inspect it. I only inspected the front of the car where the bulk of the damage was. They were changing one side panel and I just figured they would have done that correctly.. When I got home and walked around passed the passenger side to go in my house, I saw they damaged the panel right above the one they replaced, right above where the damage was to the old panel. I called them immediately after I saw it and they told me it must have happened while driving it home. It 100% did not. I am beating myself up for not looking at it before taking the keys from their hands. I am appalled that any business can be this unprofessional. Filing a complaint with the bbb is the last thing I would ever want to do, but I had to for this place. read more

would NEVER recommend! after 3 times getting the car back, telling me its done, we had to bring it back. they don't look at there finished work and say maybe we should do this right before we call the customer to pick up! you think!
