They were all very nice. However they have no dominican products. I have been going to dominicans for about 20 years. I have never went and not seen dominican products . In addition to a non dominican pure bred white girl (nothing againts white people) did my hair. It came out dry and frizzy. It was a waste of money. My mom seem to have the only dominican there to do her hair. And her hair is just as bad. i wouldnt recommend. Considering all we got were 2 bad wash n set for 92 bucks. Not worth the trip. After years of wearing weaves and wanting to wear my own hair but afraid that it was too thin I took a leap of faith and I have been wearing my hair for three months and I went to Brooklyn for three weeks and each and every time that I go I love to visit the dominican salons . As stylists they're ok. However, curt service with an attitude can be tough to deal with on a Saturday. As is the inability to communicate with your stylist in order to be specific with you hair requests/preferences -- which one should be able to do with a stylist. I recently moved from Brooklyn to California and was struggling with my hair. I was getting a blowout nearly every week for over 8 years. I found this salon on yelp and decided to give it try during a visit to LA. I figure that I should find a hair salon before I found an apartment. Ha! If you are from NYC and have been spoiled by either not having to manage your own hair, or pay an arm and leg for some of those NYC salons, then you understand the value and convenience of a Dominican blowout. So...I called and made an appointment the same day. I got a relaxer and a cut. I felt like Neesha really took care of my hair during the process. I am a burner so I asked for scalp protector and barely felt my scalp tingle when the relaxer was in. She made sure my hair was properly conditioned as well...which is important because I have a lot of breakage from a self-color treatment that went horribly awry years ago. I would definitely recommend Neesha. For you NYers, the prices will be higher than NY, but well worth it. For you Californians, give a Dominican blowout a try at Dominican Elegance and see what all the hype is about. read more

Let me begin by saying I don't ever write reviews but I found myself compelled to write about this salon. I currently live in Atlanta and I'm in San Diego for work. I drive two hours to get my hair done every two weeks. If that doesn't convince you to try this place then I don't know what to tell you. I am hispanic but have African American hair. Now ladies, most of you know how difficult it is to fine a good hairdresser. Provi is an excellent hairdresser and I am a firm believe that some hairdressers have growing hands, and she is one of them. So do yourself and your hair a favor and try this place. Just left here with a HORRIBLE experience! The stylist who did my hair name was Darlene, and she was absolutely awful. She did not even finish blow drying my hair like I had asked. Before this she didn't even know how to work the hair dryer. You should never be okay with your customer being Unsatisfied. This place is the truth - as in the Harlem Gods have sent us a gift because I haven't had been able to find a wash and set close to me since I left NY in 2008. I couldn't recommend this place more. The prices are very good and Provi could not be more personal or professional. I have 3B curly hair that is on the dry side and she always does a great job with color (my hair tends to fade a lot and she puts in lots of moisturizers so I don't have breakage). Plus, her blow-outs couldn't be better. They usually last me for several days. On busy days, she might be running a little behind schedule if a lot of people show up (or arrive late), so just factor that in when you set up an appointment. I love this salon - Nesha Weems is my go to hair stylist. I started going to her over a year ago and my has never looked better. Having relaxed my hair for years, bleached it completely blonde, dyed it jet black and a host of other atrocities my hair was in need of some serious attention.I was looking for someone who could both style my hair and make it more healthy and manageable. I go every week for a steam treatment at a fraction of the cost that I have seen at other salons. I can totally tell the difference when I have a steam treatment and when I don't. I went during the week ( wed June 9) early in the morning so it was only me and another client, so there was no long wait. Immediately when I got in the chair she started to work. After seeing the rave reviews on Yelp. I had to check this place out. Since it was my first salon visit in almost a decade, I was extremely nervous, especially since I've been natural for 3 years now and didn't want my hair assaulted. Anyway, I felt immediately at ease in the shop, which wasn't crowded at all (major plus). I had an appointment for the Tuesday wash/set/blowdry deal,but felt a bit shocked and disappointed when my stylist told me that my hair was "too natural" to roller set. But she said that she would see what she could do. I loved how she asked me what is was that I wanted to achieve with my hair (which is to get my hair as straight as possible with minimal heat), and exceeded my expectations. Before entering the salon, I told myself not to expect perfection since I have never gotten exactly what I wanted when getting my hair done. Boy, was I blown away. My hair has never looked so good. I almost wanted to hug Nesha because she accomplished everything I wanted done to my hair without damaging or butchering it. The lesson in maintaining my hair was also much appreciated. Poor business model and even shittier customer service (sorry for the language but that's what it is). I had been trying to book my appointment for awhile and could never get ahold of anyone, but when I finally did I found out that appointments were scarce. No problem, so I booked my appointment two weeks in advance. Made sure to note it and make arrangements around coming to it....which is particularly hard considering the hours of operation for this place. Basically anyone with a full time, professional job can't come in since they coincide perfectly with regular business hours. But whatever. I made arrangements to leave work THREE HOURS in advance to make it here by 3 all the way from Anaheim. Was way too excited to have my color and roller set booked. So, as I'm getting to LA and accidents abound, I realize I'm going to be ten minutes late. So, as a courtesy, I call the shop and inform them I'll be ten, possibly 15 minutes, behind schedule. To which I was met with "well let me ask the stylist"....okay. The stylists says she won't see me. So then I tell them "well I was trying to make this appointment for a month, I made it two weeks ago, my birthday is tomorrow, and I'll only be ten minutes late." To which I was then countered with "the stylist needed you here at three on the dot". I get it, so trying to be respectful of her time I ask "okay, well then instead of the original color AND roller set I'm scheduled for, how about just the roller set so that way it won't take as much time." To which he says "well the stylist wants to leave early today anyway so she wants you to reschedule." Basically translating to "I just don't want to do it and was going to rush your hair anyway"........I mean, I could go on and on about how this is trash in every way but I'll let the words speak for themselves. Thank you for not only ruining my birthday, and losing a LOT of future business, but showing me that my money is better spent elsewhere than with poor businessmen like yourselves. read more

Love this place! As a 4B/4C natural with below shoulder length hair, my texture is thick and needs special care to avoid breakage and damage. I love the service I got here. I was referred by a friend after having several bad experiences with blow outs and roller sets. First of all, it is a nightmare trying to find a great Dominican shop if you are used to the East coast. Provi took the time to understand what I wanted and my concerns with hair care before assuming anything. When she was done - my edges were smooth, the roots were dry, the ends were straight and my hair was bouncy and full. She was polite, on time and attentive which is a plus at ANY salon but rarely happens. The place is clean and they use really good products. I am not sure what the problem is from other posters but I am a fan and would come back repeatedly. It's hard to find a good salon you want to stick with. For me, this is it. read more

I have naturally curly hair that Im just to lazy to blowout straight myself so when I found this salon in my neighborhood I was super excited to try it out. Provi the stylist did not disappoint. She put that hot as hell blowdryer and round brush to my head and handled her business. She tamed my curls into full straight locks that actually stayed straight. Shes not a fan of the flat iron but I do ask her to run one through my hair because I like the slick straight look. I only go to Provi for a blow out now and the best part is the price..40.00 for a blow out! Yes 40.00. Its not the Dominican Republic people...its LA so 40.00 is a steal especially when you can go up north or west a few miles and pay 75.00. The only negative is the knowitall but not a stylist receptionist. It was so much better when Provi's daughter worked with her but now theres a new guy who should really be at left at home or given a broom to sweep not deal with clients. Despite that little annoyance this is the place to go for a real deal blowout. read more

What a difference 3 years makes! Trying to get an appointment is like catching a gnat with your bare hands. The receptionist, Provi's grandson, is condescending at best when scheduling appointments. Telling a potential customer there is a three week wait to get their hair done with no options of another stylist is the worst in customer service ever. I only tried booking again because he messed up an earlier appointment I had last year with Provi and she left early and fortunately Neesha fit me in quickly and proved to be a great hair care provider. I tried making an appointment with her after she told me to text her and she never responded. Instead the name of the salon changed from Dominican Elegance to Sets and Provi's grandson called me back and told me there were no appointments available until almost February. So happy I found this place!!! Born and raised in NYC and going to Dominican hair salons(Tita Y Tati) pretty much all of my life, I was very sad when I moved to LA 3 years ago and couldn't find a good Dominican salon. I went to one near my house in Koreatown and they legit ripped my hair out of my head combing it and when they were done, my hair looked like I just woke up. Absolutely terrible! I was really shocked too, because they have a really high profile celebrity that they service. Naturally, I was afraid to try another so called Dominican salon out here, but I really needed to get my hair done. I have been stalking the reviews for Sets Salon for some time now, and finally decided to give this place a try. I was a little nervous because of some reviews stating they couldn't do natural hair, but I soon found out, this is most definitely NOT TRUE! I have really coarse, thick hair and I left that salon with my hair feeling and looking like I was back home in NYC! Marleni did a fabulous job and they have gained a client for life...well for as long as I'm living in LA. Price for a wash and set is definitely higher than what I'm used to back home but the quality of service and how amazing my hair looks definitely makes it worth it! read more

I was really unimpressed with this salon. First off, it's NOTHING like salons in NYC that offer fast/great service and prices with your hair looking like it's made of silk. This salon had 2 stylists working when I was there and a receptionist who spent most of her time chatting beside me with my stylist, making it impossible to relax. The stylist barely made conversation with me the entire time, my hair was underprocessed (bad idea to get a relaxer in a Dominican salon, probably), and it took about 4.5 hours for me to get in and out of there, for a hefty price of $80 for an extremely subpar job.
