Coming inside rubbed me the wrong way. No smile or nothing. Just a "how can I help you." I mentioned I had a reservation and I was escorted to my waiting table. Since I was early and happy hour was still going on at the bar and patio, I decided to go to the bar. After placing my order I was told by another employee, I assume the manager, if I wanted to sit at the bar or patio. I said I still wanted my table but I was going to do happy hour at the bar since I was early for my 6:30 reservation. I was told I could not do that. My table, who weren't there yet had to fit at the bar or patio. I said "that doesn't make any sense." I can have happy hour before my reservation and still honor my reserved table. I've done this many times at other places. Make it make sense folks. My party arrived around 630 and we decided to sit outside. Overall the food is good. Standard Italian, nothing spectacular. Fresh pasta and sauces. Mussels with a tomato sauce good. Pizza was good. Calamari-good. Good happy hour prices. They have lots of room on the inside for groups. Service was adequate. read more

The food is good, service is good. But the lunch portion of pasta is not worth the price ~$24 with gf noodles. The meatball app is also pretty small. I got it as an entree for my 6 year old who is not a big eater and it wasnt enough either. I was so hungry and I would have been famished if my lunchmate hadnt shared her fries. The panini portion size in contrast js good. I shouldn't spend $60 for two women and a little kid for lunch with no drinks and still be hungry. I would give it three stars except I didn't complain and give them a chance to rectify the situation. That said, I think this is their standard practice for portions so I am not sure what they would have done. read more

When our first choice restaurant was way too crowded on a Saturday night, we just walked a little further up 14th Street and came across this place. There were plenty of open tables and we were hungry, so we decided to give it a try. When the hostess greeted us, she told us that the pizza oven was broken, but that was not a dealbreaker for us so we proceeded to have her seat us. We didn't know it at the time, but this was a clue of things to come. We each started by ordering a glass of wine, but when my wife ordered the Riesling, the server (who was also the hostess who greeted us) said that they didn't have any available, so she had to pivot to a different choice. We started our meal with the Suppli e Crocchette and a Caesar salad. Nothing spectacular, but they were good. For my entree I ordered the cannelloni, but the waitress told me that they didn't have any. Having sensed a theme at this point, I already had a backup planned - the Cacio e Pepe. It didn't have a ton of flavor, but it was pretty good. My wife had the fettuccine bolognese and my daughter order the gnocchi. They booth enjoyed their meals. It's been a while since I've been to Sette Osteria and it still remains a solid place to get reasonably priced Italian food. My friend and I came around 4pm and sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. It's self serve patio seating so you can feel free to sit where you want. Luckily it was happy hour which ends at 7pm so we had plenty of time to enjoy. I ordered a half plate of the Carbonara pasta without bacon and added shrimp. It was pretty good but I added some extra Parmesan with chili flakes that they server provided and it helped to enhance the flavors even more. My friend also ordered the same but with bacon included and she loved her dish. We both enjoyed the happy hour drinks: she got the sangria which she said was good and strong and I got sparkling wine. We also ordered the happy hour fries which were standard but also a little dry. It's not the best Italian I've ever had but it's still good and definitely worth a try. I would say coming at happy hour would be the best option if you want to save on costs. read more

Very nice looking Italian restaurant in the heart of DuPont Circle. I ordered the chicken Parmigiana. It was okay. The sauce needs a lot more flavor. I also had the meatballs. Those were very good with lots of flavor. The service was fine. My opinion a little short staffed. People had to wait a little longer than usual for things like getting a table and ordering. Decent wine list, primarily old world which is great but the saddest Cacio Pepe I have ever had. If you are going to offer this simple classic dish then it needs to be to perfection and sadly was not. Not enough pepper. Didn't think we could get a seat anywhere on a warm Saturday night in Logan Circle, but they had plenty of tables (not usually a good sign when all of the other restaurants had waitlists). It was as expected given the turnout. I would give 4 stars for service, though. Arugula salad and caprese salads were just ok (tomatoes were not good enough to showcase). Hubby's chicken parm was bland. I wouldn't have eaten it. And the side of broccoli rabe was inedible as it was so stringy/tough. My pork chop was the highlight & my side salad. Cooked perfectly and was still juicy. However - will continue to hunt for Italian in the 'hood. read more

My girlfriends and I came here for an early dinner and Sette Osteria did not disappoint! The restaurant wasn't crowded at all so we were seated on the patio outside which was nice! The customer service was really great as well with the hosts and the servers being extremely friendly! We ordered the calamari to start which was delicious. Wasn't over fried/cooked which you typically find at a lot of restaurants. We then ordered the Salami pizza, Funghi flatbread and the Pollo Flatbread. I had the salami pizza and it was wonderful. Somehow, Sette Osteria manages to pull all of these things off only steps away from U Street. My last visit to Sette Osteria was with a group of friends for Sunday brunch. We were seated outside (Rona tings) and greeted by an amazing server who allowed us to mix up our bottomless mimosas and bellinis. He kept the drinks flowing and conversation going (even behind a mask)! We ordered nearly everything off the menu - pasta, pizza, seafood and then some. The names of every dish that we ordered escapes me, but I remember that it was all good (I sampled everyone's meal)! ;-) Definitely recommend this place for a date night or brunch w/ friends. :) read more

One also doesn't need to make a reservation during the weekends. Fun happy hour experience in a great location. Went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I literally changed it from 3 to 4 to 3 as I was writing it. I can remember some other 4 star experiences and this just wasn't it. Not all of the dishes were 4 star for sure. The service wasn't amazing. They forgot a pasta dish and slow on drinks. However, they looked pretty slammed. Miriana was really nice, helpful, good attitude, so benefit of the doubt. Also with the stars, the Shrimp Crostini almost ensured the 4th star. It was so good. The shrimps were perfect little flavorful morsels. The spinach was also tasty. Lots of olive oil. Ended up eating it with knife and fork because it was too juicy to pick up via the bread. The meatballs were great too. Lots of flavor. They come with brussel sprouts. I would have preferred they be crunchy versus soft. However, still good flavor. Oh, the red sauce was so good. This would have been great on a pasta dish. The grilled callemari was ok. It was served on a salad bed of lettuce and other greens. It was a bit overcooked. I'd definitely be willing to go back. This place is under new management by Chris and I just want to say, this place is it. We stumbled upon this place just walking down 14th on a Saturday night, not expecting much accommodation on a random night with no reservations. It's the way that Chris (manager) and Jessica (the host) tried every avenue to make sure we get sat at a table when they had a full house + incoming reservations. They checked in on us often, never had an empty drink on the table. We then moved on to food, and oh my goodness - hot, fresh, delicious! It was exactly what we needed after a couple drinks. We came in to celebrate our friend's birthday unbeknownst to them, we did not expect any special treatment but Chris took it upon himself to go above and beyond to celebrate her. We feel so loved and celebrated by this new team. Love this place, it's gonna be our new go to!! Sette Osteria 5/23/22 My Year of the Restaurant was intended to be an exploration of new restaurants I'd never, or very rarely, dined at before. But this one was calling my name because the thought of Veal Piccata entered my mind and I could not resist. My apartment building is literally across the alley behind the restaurant and I have eaten here many times. And almost every time I go, I go for the veal piccata, although I have had other items from this fine Italian restaurant. Namely pizza. Shocker. But I haven't tried the pasta dishes. I need to explore more of the menu. Tonight my server, though I didn't catch her name, was very friendly and made my cocktail as well: my Happy Hour Mojito was one of the best, well-blended and mixed mojitos I've ever had. Simply perfect! Exactly the correct levels of sweet and tart. I also got the Calamari Fritti from the happy hour menu as well and while small, it was very tasty. Well seasoned, fried exactly right, as calamari can get get very chewy and rubbery when overcooked. Not the case here! And the spicy marinara was only just spicy enough to say hello with our punching you in the mouth. Perfect for me. For my entree I, of course, ordered the Veal Piccata. It's a dish that I just have to keep coming back for! With the roasted fingerling potatoes and sautéed spinach, I have to admit is pretty pedestrian in the culinary world, but damn, I crave it!! The flavors of lemon and caper in the white wine sauce for the veal is exactly what I needed tonight! And for dessert, no surprise I got the tiramisu. While I am not a huge fan of coffee as a drink, I do enjoy the flavor in a sweet dish like this or ice cream. And this was a good version. Nothing spectacular, it it gave what was expected. Just walked in on a random Sunday since my gf wanted pasta. And when I saw this was one of the best meals we have had in the city! Super flavorful and beautiful plating. Came here with some friends for dinner and got seated fairly quickly outside. Beautiful evening and weather was perfect. Seating probably wasn't set up in the best way since it seemed like we were in the way of waiters going to serve food. One of them even bumped into the table... Anyways, ordered way too many liters of white wine sangria, but it was surprisingly good! Started with a meat board which had yummy prosciutto. The other meats were ok. Also ordered prosciutto flatbread because you can never get enough prosciutto! Tagiolini con pesto with shrimp was super creamy and delicious! Definitely a dish to try. I checked in on yelp and we got free Nutella bites, which was a much bigger plate than expected - basically fried balls of dough with Nutella drizzled on top! Service was quick and attentive. My friend and I put in an order for drinks and appetizers, but we never got the appetizers. We ended up cancelling the appetizers once our entrees came in about 30-45 minutes after arrival. The pasta for the main course was very good and a large portion. We had to wait another 30 minutes (at least) after finishing dinner to get the check. The waitress only came over after I went to ask the hostess about getting the check.
