My family came to grab some grub here and we didn't want to leave. Decided to sit at the bar as the wait for table was 45 minutes. No complaints as we enjoyed talking to the staff and fellow bar mates. Probably stayed too long, a bit past closing time, but the super friendly staff told us not to hurry. The food was AMAZING. We all tested much of the menu from the horny toad appetizer, lemon crusted chicken to many salads and a sandwich. We were all silent while eating which says a lot. We went there for dinner Saturday evening. It took over 10mins before someone took our drink order. We had to wait over 20mins to get our food. We came pretty close to walking out. I sat on this review for a couple weeks as there was a lot to think about. To begin, this is a great space with a clean, contemporary vibe in an area that is short on good places to eat. The menu looked very appetizing and the prices were reasonable. But I broke my own rule of going to a newly opened restaurant in their opening days and for that I blame myself. Sooooooo our party of 6 made a 6pm reservation for their first Saturday night service just a few days after they opened. It appeared not to be crowded and we were seated promptly at 6pm by friendly staff to a table with only 2 menus & 2 sets of silverware. Our waitress was fairly prompt and friendly but it was obviously her first experience as a server and she was still getting used to her wireless order pad. Pretty cool. We asked for water, more silverware and menus which never came until a second request much later. Not a deal breaker. Beer & wine are your choices for adult beverages but Texas wines are all that are offered. I've spent a decent amount of time at the wineries in the Hill Country and found very few that we would actually purchase to bring home. I'm no wine snob and Texas wines are getting better. But I think it's a mistake to only offer Texas wines and the ones they offer aren't very good. When they described the flavor of the red blend as "Funky" she wasn't talking about the cool vibe of the winery. Our cab was not very good and our waitress not only couldn't pronounce Cabernet, but she didn't know if it was a red or a white wine. She's doing her best and we appreciated the effort. Service from the bar was slow. The menu items looked tasty as we all shared the only 2 menus they brought us and we ordered some appetizers & salads at 6:25. We placed our entree orders at 6:35. Still no water or silverware. At 7 (25 minutes later for those who are bad at math) the waitress came out and informed us they were out of ribeyes. Yeah. Out of ribeyes at 7 on a Saturday night service. Our guest opted for the smaller filet instead. Appetizers and salads didn't arrive until After they started bringing out 2 of the 6 entrees several minutes later. The 2 they brought out first was my small filet and a friends chicken dish which looked wonderful. Plate presentation was excellent. We waited a few minutes for the rest to arrive and finally our other guests told us to go ahead and get started which we did. Except both our entrees were cold (protein & sides) and my filet was very rare. We both had the same side dishes but his were much larger portions than mine. We sent them both back which I rarely do (as in never) and my filet came back barely any warmer than the first time and still very rare and the sides were still cold. As the rest of the entrees came out the filet that was subbed for the ribeye they were out of mysteriously morphed into what looked like a NY strip which isn't even on the menu. No prob. As we all began to eat (approximately 7:15) our guest cut into the NY strip ordered medium and it appeared the chef read "raw" because that's what he got. (See picture) Yeah, he sent back. So you can see how this was going and I won't elaborate further. I hate to say it but this was probably my worst dining experience I can recall because there was failure on so many levels. The wait staff (although friendly but grossly undertrained), wine list (or lack thereof) and a kitchen that appeared to be in the weeds and rudderless the entire evening. I would be more understanding but these are not operators without experience and some of these problems are basic Food Service 101. They comp'd us a bottle of wine and some deserts which we appreciated. I tipped our waitress well because she was doing her best without much training. We'll be back as I'm a guy that believes in supporting local businesses and letting new places work the bugs out. Not to mention there are some REALLY tasty looking items on the menu. In this climate with a small pool of available food service talent I applaud their effort just to get the place opened. But I'll wait until they get some time under their belts before my next visit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for their success. But I may have to sneak in my favorite Cali cab though. :) read more

Can't say enough good things about this place!!! Great food! Great service. Great atmosphere. We shared the horny toads and the cowboy dip. House made chips with the cowboy dip are crisp fresh and delicious. The horny toads were fried to a perfect crisp. We also shared the Jacked up Turkey sandwich. It comes on raisin bread toasted which was a perfect for this sandwich. We opted for the sweet potato tater tots which paired with ranch were so incredibly interesting and delicious. Happy to find this hidden gem in Sunnyvale. It's new and bright with a fun atmosphere. If it had been warmer, we would have enjoyed sitting on one of their patios. We were really impressed with the interesting menu. Everything is made from scratch in restaurant. Our waitress was really helpful in telling us some of her favorites. My husband had the hand battered steak fingers (called Cow Toes). He said they were delicious and tender. I had the Turkey Gobbler. It had dried cranberries and sliced apples on it and was served on raisin bread. I was a little disappointed at the small size of the sandwich when it was served. But after eating it, I realized that it was very filling. I substituted the french fries for sweet potato tots. It was a huge portion and they were delicious. Something really special about the place is that there is a gift shop and big coffee shop connected to it. Several people came in to just order desserts and coffee. For dessert, we shared a piece of chocolate cake. It was served warm with a side of vanilla ice cream. Delicious! This is more like a 3.5 star review. My family has been to settlers table several times and we bring our family from out of town when they come and visit. We are very big on supporting small businesses. I don't usually like to complain but tonight we had the worst service we have ever had at settlers table. I took my son for a mommy date and we were served (or lack there of) by Jenafer W. For starters she never brought us something to drink, I had to flag down the hostess and ask for some water. Then my water was empty for about 15 minutes and 8 of those minutes (which was probably more Bavaria's I took my phone out and timed her) Jenafer was by the kitchen window on her phone the entire time not helping 1 table. She had a terrible attitude and did not smile once. I said thank you every time something was brought to the table but she just walked past us. I am a very polite person. When she brought the check and we cashed out she literally came walking by the table (did not stop) quickly placed the check down and didn't even thank us. I used to be a server so I am big on server adequate. It also takes ALOT for me not to tip 20% or more. But this service was so terrible I tipped 10% I just couldn't justify giving her money for something she didn't deserve. As I stated before I've been here several times and we usually receive good service but this was just unacceptable. I almost asked to speak with a manager. I wanted to love Settler's Table, I really did.... Let's start with the good: The decor is very cute and welcoming. Now on to the food-I had the Cow Toez. I love that they use locally sourced beef. Overall, the entire plate lacked flavor. The zucchini was heavy on the Italian seasoning, but still somehow didn't have much flavor. I'm pretty sure the mashed potatoes were instant which is definitely unacceptable for a supposedly everything from scratch place. The gravy did taste like it was homemade. The grilled corn is definitely canned corn that's then "grilled". It would be easy to sub in frozen corn to elevate the taste as it just wasn't good. The staff was friendly, but service was SLOW and it wasn't very busy. It took a very long time for anyone to take our order, then a very long time to get food, and an unreasonably long time to receive the pie we ordered for dessert as it only had to be sliced and plated. Our drinks were frequently empty. I love to support locally owned places, but based on our experience I don't think we'll be back. read more

Nice atmosphere, and I like the outdoor space for kids to run around. We needed a decent option in Sunnyvale. The burgers are good, though the prices for some things are a bit high, $16 for a burger in NYC... ok... but for a small-town restaurant, this seems a bit steep. There is a basic $12 version, however. The servers have always been really nice every time we go. My biggest complaint is they aren't open on Sunday. We came to meet some friends and discovered they were closed, so we had to leave and go elsewhere. Basically the only time we would want to come here is Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Why not close on a Monday instead? Seems illogical to cut out half of the weekend business when the majority are off work and go out to eat. There is no other good option in the area. read more

Since we moved to Mesquite, we have been driving miles to find this type of restaurant for lunch - delicious food, beautiful surroundings and wait staff who like what they are doing and want to be there. Chris was our waiter, but a waitress handling another area (a charming woman) filled our water glasses and spoke with us while handling her own tables. When is the last time wait staff helped each other's customers - years!? Chris said the owners usually come in in the afternoon and we would really like them; he said they are great people. Once again, when is the last time wait staff talked about owners with enthusiasm? I haven't even bragged about our lunch yet: we ate an appetizer, main dish and each even had dessert. I almost don't want to share this with anyone until I've had everything on the menu, but I will anyway. In Sunnyvale there's a beautiful little place called Settler's Table. Opened by the owners of PawPaws in Garland. Omg. So good. We met one of the owners, Earl, who brought our food to the table, and answered my husband's questions about the beer (which turned out to be Intrinsic Hefenweisen)We had the cheese platter, which was a perfectly seasoned soft cheese with honey and pistachios, served with warm bread. We also tried the Horny Toads- wonderfully crisp fried pimento cheese balls. My friend and I both had the chicken poblano cream soup and salads, and hubby had the fried fish. The soup was creamy with the perfect amount of spice. The salads were made with crispy greens and perfectly balanced ingredients. We tried the Carribean Dream , chocolate cake, and apple pie sundae with coffee for dessert. They were all delectable.
