Came here with my family; this was my first time, and I have to say I enjoyed the food -- it was hearty. I had the omelette; it was a nice size and filling. Had chicken fried steak and hash browns, this time around. Everything was hot and yummy. Went for breakfast and lunch this week. The tables and booths are numbered, all you need to do is tell the cashier the number and she gives the order back to you, so its all correct. We just tried this cafe a couple of weeks ago despite living nearby in garland for a few years and let me just say it exceeded expectations! The service was great from start to finish and the food was delicious and affordable. Not to mention the portions were big and I even had leftovers. Second time we have been here and the first time the Philly Cheese Steak was delicious; second time I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak which was a cutlet, pre breaded and dropped into the fryer....accompanied by okra, potatoes and a slice of toasted white bread!!! This is a place to go when, as a diner, you know 'no better'.......you now 'know better'!! Service on both occasions has been good!! Rowlett sorely needs more privately owned restaurants! When they first opened it was super awesome--- BUT Over the last couple months it's gotten worse and makes no sense--- the need more or better help in the kitchen -- the quality of the food is pretty good but preparation is gone down hill. Service was ok. Got the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and a side salad. Hamburger steak was kinda thin but had a great taste. Supposed to have brown gravy but what I got was steak sauce in a plastic cup? Potatoes came with cream gravy not brown. And they were very dry. Salad was shredded lettuce and cheese and ranch dressing in a plastic cup. Oh and menu said with a roll and I got very dry toast. Put butter on it but didn't really help. Tried this out this morning and we were very pleased! The build your own breakfast is perfect for me because I don't have to make substitutions! Food was really good. Service was amazing. Our coffee was always refilled with a smile! Our group had country fried steak breakfast with sides, country fried chicken breakfast with sides, and two of us built our own that included eggs, French toast, biscuits gravy, sausage patties, bacon, fruit and toast. All was so good. We will definitely be back. Not sure what the last review is referring to about having to repeat your order when paying...that isn't the case at all. Everyone is so nice here! If chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes are what you're craving, this restaurant is not a good choice. It was the worst I've ever tasted. I've eaten better CFS in a frozen Boston Market TV dinner. The mashed potatoes were instant, and the gravy tasted like it came in the form of powder and mixed with water. The only thing that was delicious was the pinto beans. They were perfectly seasoned, and I could tell they were homemade. The waitress was friendly when she took my order, but she never checked to see if I wanted more tea. I was going to give this place three stars until I paid my bill. I mentioned that the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were the worst I've ever tasted and should be removed from the menu. Instead of apologizing, she wanted to argue by telling me it's one of the number one items. No one with taste buds would ever order that CFS more than once. To be fair, I'm not suggesting the restaurant should be avoided because today's meal is all I've tried. The breakfast items I saw there looked good, and a hamburger being carried to another table looked good. I just highly recommend avoiding the CFS, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The pinto beans would be worth a trip back. I highly recommend those. My suggestion to the owner is don't waste your customer's money by serving processed food. Learn how to make scratch-made chicken fried steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes. Find a good recipe for homemade yeast rolls and save the toast for breakfast. I spent $19 and change on your food and two-thirds of it was left on my plate. I could have spent less than $5 at the grocery store on a TV dinner that tasted better. read more

We both got different styles of omelets, which included a side. The portion size was more than enough, and we both took the leftovers home.
