This little East Dallas treasure was unknown to me until I happened upon them after visiting a record store in the same shopping strip. This bakery of Simply Good Pies on Garland Road is an absolute must visit. I got a slice of their Pecan Pie and another of their Coconut Cream Pie...and both blew my expectations out of the water. But let's focus on the Pecan Pie for this review. Pecan pie can so easily lean too cloying or turn into a gelatinous mess, but Humble nails the balance with precision. The Crust: Golden, tender, and properly flaky. You can tell it's made from scratch with real care, it holds its shape without being tough or greasy. The Filling: Rich, buttery, and smooth with a distinct hint of deep brown sugar and vanilla, rather than just overwhelming corn-syrup sweetness. This place was absolutely stellar and absolutely adorable inside. It's so welcoming here and is so lovely if you want to go on a date or just catch up with someone. When I played checkers here, I got stomped but at least there was pie to comfort me. I got the apple pie as I'm weak to the classics and it's one of the best pies I've ever had. The crust is so flaky but not dry and the apple filling wasn't overly sweet. I wish I got to try their crawfish or pot pie but alas it was sold out. Came in on a Sunday to try out some pies for a friend's birthday; grabbed a slice of the Emma's Texas Lime and a mini Blossom's Coconut Joy. Both pies are served cold of course, and the custard/creams were thick and luscious. I loved the tang of the Texas lime, might be too sour for some but perfect for me. The custard is made with condensed milk, so it's definitely still sweet. The Coconut Joy pairs together coconut cream and Humble's chocolate pot de cream, which married deliciously together. Next time I'd really like to try some warm pies with ice cream! We were the only ones inside for a while, and it was such a nice space to just hang out; the tables had activities like checkers and dominos, and there was a bookshelf near the front door with plenty of reading material. We stumbled into Humble on a Sunday afternoon. It's very eclectic inside and the music transports you to a different place The cashier was very welcoming and super knowledgeable about the pies. I ended up getting three slices: apple, cherry and chocolate crème. I was tempted by the apple cherry pie and it came highly recommended, but wanted to try them separately first. Ordered the Chocolate Cream Pie and it was SUPER tasty. For this pie, they fill the crust with chocolate pot de crème and it's topped with house made whipped cream and dark chocolate. It had the right amount of sweetness and the crust was just perfect. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying some of their other pies. It is just the most scrumptious pie you'll ever eat Now my grandson was taking a piece of pie and his cupcakes home to have after they had dinner which I thought that was very thoughtful loving, so I've had my dinner and I have just finished my pie And I am floating around the room. If you have not been to humble pie, you are missing an experience in your lifetime that I only can tell you it is worth the drive I believe the owner's name is Jeffrey and when I talk to him, which by the way, when you walk in the front door, it is like walking into your grandmother's kitchen. It's got a stand for coffee and tea and then swinging doors into the kitchen and they leave them open and you can see them working . They have nothing to hide. He told me that all the recipes are most of them came from his grandmother and when he mastered them, he made new flavors that are out of this world. And I don't like crumb crust, but the crumb crust they make and that's on this lemon icebox pie is absolutely delicious. So take my word for it. You gotta get some pie. They make all kinds of pie for pecan to apple I can't even begin to name all their pies. And I'll tell you right now if you want one for any special holiday, maybe like Memorial Day or the Fourth of July you better order them now because he'll only take so many orders cause there's only so many hours in the day but their Apple pie put some bluebell homemade ice cream on the top of it Oh you got a good one it'll make you put up a flag and pop some firecrackers!!!!!! So look up their menu so you'll have an idea of what you can order but all I can recommend is on Sunday after you go to church go by humble pie and have some dessert and then go have lunch. Just called to ask for a donation for our school because we have purchased pies there in the past, the female that answered the call was SO rude and then she hung up on me. I called back and spoke with the manager and explained I have reached out to over 150 local businesses for donations and several of them say no and I totally understand that, but I have never been spoken to like that before. He said they are not able to give anything at this time and they are currently hurting for business and I told him it is free to be kind and he should pass that information on to his employees. It was hotter than Hades on fire and I needed something cool and sweet... Then the idea struck me, the new pie shop! We made a couple of bat-turns to get into the parking lot and after a couple of moments admiring some of the ironic signage of their neighboring stores, in we went. The Pie shop was cool and had some great mellow music playing in the background. The owner/manager/Pie Master or whatever his title was graciously greeted us and gave a wonderful pitch on pies. My date had the all berry (a lot of various berries) and I ordered the coconut cream plus an iced tea. As he put in the order to the pie maker masters in the back room, he brought us out thick glasses filled with ice. I'm an old Texas boy and the thicker the glass, the better the drink. It just feels better in my hands and makes whatever is in them taste better; somewhat like a Mason jars or snuff glass jars. The iced tea was delightful! In moments he was bringing out 2 slices of pies the State Fair judges would be proud to hang ribbons upon. I tasted the berry and it was amazing! But I wanted something smooth, soothing and cool. That was exactly how the coconut cream was. Sweet delicious toasted coconut on the cream on top and long plump tender coconut in the coconut cream on the bottom. The crust was an absolutely amazing combination of flakey, crisp and soft. The way a pie crust should be! This took 10 degrees off the hot day. read more

We love this pie place!!! Every piece we've had was delicious. My dad loves the bourbon pecan and the bayou gou, I really enjoyed the blueberry with ice cream and my son loved the chocolate. So while we were in downtown Dallas for lunch, we decided to look up pie shops, went to one in Deep Ellum and was disappointed because they didn't even have Coconut cream pie. So we called Humble: Simply Good Pies and asked if they had the Coconut cream Pie and the man on the phone said yes so on we went. Arrived, walked in and it was definitely a pie shop. You can smell the pies cooking. The man who created us was super friendly and nice. He explained his process of pie making which is pretty cool. And yes, they had the coconut cream pie. We ordered a slice of the coconut cream pie as well as the coconut joy. OMG, my craving was satisfied. One of the best coconut cream pie I've had. It tasted like a home cooked pie. It wasn't to sweet and the crust was delicious. The cream was so fluffy. The coconut joy was good too. the chocolate mousse wasn't too sweet. But I like the original coconut cream better. Overall it was great and would definitely be back. I found my pie shop. There were other flavors that I would like to try for next time. The pie was $6 a pie and well worth it. Located off Garland Rd. near the Dallas Arboretum, this is a must try shop. They have a parking lot that is shared by the shopping stop in which it is located but it has plenty of parking available. The cute shop is quite cozy but very inviting. Unfortunately, we were unable to stay and had our slice to go for an upcharge of $1.
