Had brunch at this cozy little restaurant in Rowlett that is only open for breakfast and lunch. I love their buttermilk pancakes and since i rarely eat them I usually order the traditional American breakfast with scramble egg, hash browns and a stack and two buttermilk pancakes... all very good. But today I tried their Mexican chorizo skillet with hash browns mixed with chorizo, onions, green peppers, jalapeños and cheese topped with two easy over eggs, a side of homemade salsa and much to my surprise I got and additional breakfast side of fluffy buttermilk pancakes. Seems like an odd combination but the sweet and savory mixed really well together. Great breakfast spot! read more

usually this place is pretty good. my wife and I ate there yesterday and it was horrid. I had eggs Benedict and she ordered 1 biscuit and gravy. they brought mine out, and said hers would be right there. I was almost done with my breakfast by the time she got her single biscuit and gravy. Our drinks were never refilled. By the time we got home, we were scrambling for the bathrooms. Excellent food and staff. I visit frequently - once or twice a week - mostly breakfast.

I'm there for Wednesday morning meeting with a group. Our waitress goes above and beyond and the food is always great.

Basic greasy breakfast, coffee is pretty rough, server was really nice when we could actually hear what she was saying over the excessively loud music from the kitchen that they believe everyone wants to hear instead of being able to talk to anyone at your table. The cashier in the other hand instead of being polite and asking me how my meal was, instead thought reminding me that the coffee cup in my hand was their cup, twice, as though I was planning to take it to the local pawn shop later.. If I were desperate to eat and it were the only place open, I would either pass or fast, not sure. Sorry no food pictures here, just boring, and greasy. read more

Great food. We had the meat omlette with corned beef beef hash and rye. All were delicious. The omlette is big and totally filling. Also had the chicken fried steak with mash and green beans . Grean beans came with fresh tomatoes on it which added a freshness to the dish. Steak was cook to perfection and had an appropriate amount of gravy. We wanted great breakfast with delicious fresh not frozen offerings, Lakewood Cafe- Rowlett did not dissapoint. We arrived early Saturday morning so seated quickly. Between the extensive menu offerings and the convenient plackard of popular sides on each table/booths we were ready when the waitress arrived, who was very helpful with our decisions. Our table ordered and enjoyed fantastic Pecan Belgium waffles, fluffy scrambled eggs, nice size sausage patties not the tiny ones other establishments served. Soft tasty cinnamon French toast was YUMMO, a side of fresh fruit (cup) and WARM syrup was spot on. The true test for my mom was the coffee- smooth, not bitter or weak nor a need for the fancy extras. The restaurant is rather small but was filled with families and what appeared to be quite a few "regulars". We noticed how quickly tables were cleared and cleaned. A wonderful experience all around. Well, no doubt these cooks can sling a great salad, and that is what I got. Grilled, sliced chicken breast, on top of a perfect mixture of greens & salad veggies, topped with Feta cheese & Kalamata olives. A simple Balsamic & olive oil dressing made this a zesty & delicious salad. This place is crazy-busy on weekends with locals & their families! The mall owner should help them expand the floorspace. Very unwelcome feeling from the manager! We were sat, served drinks and there for several minutes about to place our order with our lovely waitress when this lady popped up to ask if our 7 pound, 15 week old, havenese puppy (who was in a carrier, hadn't made one noise and was seen by the staff at the front desk when we asked for a booth because we have a puppy, the gentlemen who sat us saw her and our waitress saw her and not one word from any of them) was a service animal. Of course I am not going to lie, so I said no. I asked why no one notified us before we were sat and she replied with "I don't know but we don't allow pets unless they're service animal." She said "you don't have to pay for the drinks, be it can't be here". So we left. I get some places don't allow pets and I normally wouldn't bring her but we're in town for a family illness and had no real choice. They could've let us know when we first got there, before sitting down, in a much less disruptive way and we would've gladly gone somewhere else. We will definitely never return. I have had the opportunity to come to this store/restaurant on a weekly basis. I can tell you that the service is beyond impeccable. Our waitress, Christina, knows every person in our 6-10 people party and knows what we drink and what we eat by heart. I order the Chorizo Skillet. I love that the jalapeños that are added to this dish. The skillets are very tasty and amazing. Pancakes are amazing and flavorful. There is something put in that makes them taste wonderful. I was between a rock and a hard place. It was Sunday and I was out of town. I didn't want to dine in, but I was starving. In smaller towns like this (I am from an even smaller one) no one seems to want to wear masks (MASKS ARE NOT A POLITICAL ISSUE OR INDICATOR, FRIENDS!!! - though I also understand that it is a choice). My wait was about 10 mins, which wasn't bad. They had a designated seating area, which was nice. The hostess was sweet as could be. The server - even better! She offered suggestions, complimented my choice and welcomed me when she approached. LOVE IT about smaller/mid size towns like this. CHECK OUT MY PICTURE OF MY MEAL!!!! I ordered the Tuscan Panini. To most, it likely looks like the least of the menu options, but it was delicious! The bread may not look like it, but it was like a cloud, and warm. The veggies were certainly fresh, but in house, the cheese was real, and the hash browns (which were what I chose as my "one side") were not greasy, but crisp. It also didn't look like much on the plate but was so filling. I 86'd the pesto mayo, but the sandwich was far from from dry. I really enjoyed my visit to this place, and will certainly return - unless I master making it at home, but even then I may because the menu had so many good looking option I want to see what else they have to offer. Despite being initially really friendly and attentive, the waiter never checked on us again after we got our food. Minus one star for the food. The cfs was cooked perfectly. The hash browns were crisp and golden. The over medium eggs were exactly the right level of doneness. The biscuit was browned just so. And I had to add more salt to them all than I've ever added to any meal ever.* It's as if they had never heard of using salt IN the food they prepare. Cooking WITH salt is very different from adding salt later. It takes less and flavors the food more, and it's spread more evenly throughout the dish. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast today. The store wasn't very busy yet, so we were seated quickly. Our server greeted us and took our order. We waited about the average time you would expect for our meal to arrive. It look delicious and it was. Only problem my wife's breakfast skillet was warm at best. I had chicken fried steak and it was hot, but hash browns and eggs were again warm at best. My grits were just plain COLD! They wouldn't even melt the butter I put in them. Came back and tried something different. Went with my usual of Florentine Eggs Benedict (regular with spinach), which comes with a side of hash brown (or grits). Everything came out real quickly! Eggs benedict were good. The hollandaise sauce was not was I was used to but I can't pinpoint was it was exactly. The hash browns were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and potato-y on the inside. Just seemed like it wasn't salted, but nothing salt and ketchup can't fix. We enjoyed and appreciated Kirk's great service as well as everyone else who kept our coffee and water filled. Will probably be back whenever we're in the area again. read more

It pains me to go so low on Lakewood Cafe after reading so many positive reviews. Our waitress had to leave abruptly and did not place our order with the kitchen, so we sat for several minutes before the manager approached us with the bad news. Ok- so I accepted the personal emergency, error and apology. We sat for awhile longer and when food finally arrived it was cold. The pancakes and toast would not melt the butter. I gave up after that- nothing like cold food served on a cold rainy day. Even with the 25% discount I was very unhappy. That said- I'll still give them another try. The place was packed and either Rowlett has few good restaurants or some people really like the food. I'll try to be the latter! What could go wrong? read more

I had the two egg combination and they let me substitute cinnamon swirl French toast for the toast/biscuit/pancake option. Eggs were good, hash browns crispy, bacon crispy too. You enter and wait to be seated with the Texas Rona protocols. Here you have a QR code to view your menu. The restaurant sitting area is big and no issues for family a large family. Luckily it was mom and I while our three Tazmanian Devils enjoyed quality time with grandparents. As we placed our order, wife being a creature of habit ordered French toast and I took our friendly servers recommendation for meat lovers skillet. If needed, the bathrooms are located by the kitchen. While waiting for your meal you couldn't avoid the friendly environment by not only those eating there but employees. The portions were ok and the skillet was layered with different meats and the eggs were cooked just right. The side stack of pancakes were heavy and not flavourful. Wife enjoyed her French Toast with bacon and eggs. The meal was inexpensive at $23 dollars plus tip. If you are in the neighborhood, drop on by and get your skillet on! read more

I will say the large chocolate milk can easily pass for a kids size. I was surprised when our waitress said they have a smaller chócate milk and ours were considered large. You don't get refills but she was so sweet and just gave my husband another one because he had already drank it before our food even came out. My oldest son is particular on textures and such so he didn't like the pancakes. He loved their waffles! My daughter ate her pancakes with no probs. My smallest son loves eggs so ate the scrambled eggs from each siblings plate because they didn't want eggs. The kids plates came with pancakes, egg and either a choice of 2 strips of bacon or sausage. $6.99 I believe. I just swapped the pancake out for the waffle for my oldest son. Hubbs ordered the chicken fried steak which comes with hash browns, eggs and choice of bread/biscuit. Pretty good, I tried a few bites of his CFS. I had stuffed cream cheese, strawberry crepes. The cream cheese is homemade and a little rich for me but not too shabby. All about your sugar liking. Fruit was fresh. Service was great. Lakewood Cafe is a great little diner style restaurant tucked into the corner of a strip mall. They have a great selection of diner style favorites. There is sure to be something for anyone. We went for breakfast the other day. We are transitioning back to a vegetarian lifestyle and they had several good options on the menu. I had the Omelet with mushrooms and my wife had the Veggie Skillet Breakfast. Served with toast and a side of grits it made for a great breakfast. Service was quick and friendly. No wait to be seated. A much better alternative to the Mc Donald's that is close by. The prices are similar but the quality is so much better at Lakewood. read more
